Happening place on a Saturday morning. This was recommended from someone at a store in Edinburgh! Says it was his uncle's, so we thought we try it out! It's a small quaint little place and the line starts on the other side of the street! There were a quite a few people in front of us, but we were eager to stay for the experience. I believe we waited for about 30 minutes, which wasn't bad at all (compared to Los Angeles restaurants). Interior was packed with happy people and when I said small, it's small. We got lucky with a seat near the door. Definitely not ADA compliant to my American folks. We both love the vibe and the food!! Drinks: Cappuccino and Latte Machiato - just as good as a coffee shop! Wild mushroom toast was the perfect choice. Love a good vegetarian dish that has flavor and taste good. The New Amsterdam Benedict was a big heavy, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendation guy at Canada Goose in Edinburgh!
Food and coffee were hot and delicious with very generous portions. Ordered the English breakfast and Shakshuka both were outstanding. Service was very friendly and welcoming despite our late arrival near closing time. Cosy and warm dining area with a canal view. Bathrooms very clean and modern. Hidden gem !!!!
It's been there since 1988 and there's always a queue, with good reason. They don't take reservations, but I'd be willing to wait for a spot here. The waitress made sure I was happy with my table and still she gave me an even better option as soon as it became available. I ordered the Eggs Royale: two poached eggs on a hot buttered muffin with smoked salmon, topped with hollandaise sauce, garnished with tons of pea shoots and chives. And a peach tea. Perfect temp, gorgeous to look at, yummy to eat. When I opened the menu, this was the first thing I read: "- We have stopped with Avocados due to their excessive water use (70 litres of applied fresh ground or surface water are required to grow one avocado) and long distance transport issues. Avocados have to travel a long way to get here using fossil fuels all the way. We are using locally grown alternatives. https://sustainablefoodtrust.org/" Dayum!!! I didn't know that. My sweet Dutch friend ordered French toast without the caramel, and she ate every single bite. This is your candidate restaurant for a perfect brunch. And the service is considerate, helpful and fun.
Known for breakfast and brunch, this place gets packed quickly! We keep arguing about this spot - the vegetarian brunch plate was delicious and the regular plate was not. Can't really put our fingers on it! The whole mushrooms were cooked to perfection on both plates however, and I'd recommend their version of soda bread as the "toast" option for your breakfast. Though the menu described a homemade chai, it didn't seems as such. Give it a whirl and see what YOU think - it may have just been an off day for the staff when we went.
The food is fresh and the cooking is very good. It is very cost-effective in the Netherlands. Smoking is not allowed at outdoor seats. Since it is an online celebrity restaurant, the waiters are very busy. Don't expect occasional service attitude and tone. It has always been very good. If the time is not right, be prepared to queue by the river.
OH WOW!!!!!!!!!! It doesn't matter how long the wait is, just freaking wait!!!! You'll be glad you did!!! It was a drizzly day in AMS, and I was searching for nourishment after 1.5 days of travel and flights. I stumbled on Greenwoods Singel in a blog post on one of my flights. Turns out that author NAILED IT!!! What a quaint, perfect little setting with absolutely fabulous food and a PHENOMENAL staff!!! It was a pleasure to be served at GS! It was raining, and there was a wait. But they have tents setup outside to keep patrons dry as they wait to please the palate. One thing: If you're lining up to wait, pretend you're standing in the door of the restaurant looking back across the street at the waiting area. The line goes from RIGHT to LEFT, Right being the next group to be seated. Myself and another patron both lined up on the "Right" side, which was wrong... Just ask, they'll be more than happy to help. The pride of Greenwoods was incredible!!!
Oh my goodness - this place is a must if looking for a good breakfast/brunch! I am SO glad I took the time to come here. This place gets quite busy, so if you don't want to wait, I'd suggest getting there for an early breakfast. I arrived at 10 am on a Sunday and waited about 20 minutes. By the time I left, the line was pretty long. It's a small place along the singel canal. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were super friendly even though they were obviously very busy. Their menu contains a variety of breakfast and brunch items that are available all day, which is nice. They also have more lunch type items. I ordered the Eggs Greenwood which has two poached eggs, avocado, cottage cheese, and flaked almonds on toasted soda bread. I added smoked salmon and I highly recommend that. This was DELICIOUS. Sincerely, probably the best breakfast I've ever had in my life. I also ordered a latte which was tasty. I like that they have a variety of milk options like almond, oat, and coconut to name a few. Service was great and I never felt rushed even though there was a long line of people waiting. Free Wi-Fi too! I will absolutely be returning next time I'm in Amsterdam!
show stopping, amazing food. very quick service, friendly staff, cute seating area. food was very fresh, hot, and tasty. with such pretty presentation!! highly recommend for a nice ams brunch! gets very crowded around 11:00 so may have to wait for a table if going around then. prices are reasonable but not mega cheap.
This place is verging on being "too popular", as we were there on a Saturday afternoon and had to squeeze into a pretty overcrowded room; there was constantly a line outside for the entire hour we were there; and the waiters ran around frenzied and clearly stressed out to the max. Then again, what else would you expect from a place that comes up as the top result on Tripadvisor when one googles "Best English Breakfast in Amsterdam?"... I imagine this place would be amazing on a weekday morning not in tourist season. It's kind of made to be relaxing, and that's difficult to achieve in the aforementioned circumstances. Nonetheless, despite all of these annoyances, we managed to have an incredible Saturday brunch here. The food is great (we had the full breakfast - yum, although doesn't come with potatoes?! and the eggs benny - yum yum, but the hollandaise seemed to be out of a can), the prices are great, and the staff both speak English and are very friendly. Oh and they give you a massive pot of tea for two people for €4. So basically this place is great, but try to go on an "off hour" if you can. read more
This little tea room has one of the best sandwiches I have ever tasted:) No, but seriously. They are great at what they do and even the simplest sounding things taste amazing! They make and serve good food. And they have many organic options, too in case you're interested. They don't (if i remember correctly) serve alcohol, so maybe you should note that. But the outside scenery is nice as well as the interior decoration of the place. I loved it and it makes a great place for a lunching option. read more

Super Cute breakfast place with a nice ambience. I got the eggs royale and iced coconut latte which were both pretty good. My mom got the pancakes and said they were mediocre. Everything is a little on the pricier side, however. read more

Bottom Line - Great place in Amsterdam for English breakfast. My only complaint was that the poached eggs were a bit over-done... next time I'd mention that they were previously over-done. I'd come back and would wait if there is a queue... The interior dining room seats about 26 and the exterior patio seats about 14. I came on Sunday, 16 May 2011 with 3 other friends, and we ordered the following: Scone (€2.95 x2, with Devonshire clotted cream and jam) - Our table of 4 ordered two of these. The clotted cream was good. I did enjoy the scone a lot... it was quite moist and buttery. YUM! Eggs Royale (€7.95 x2) - 2 poached eggs and smoked salmon on toasted English muffins, topped with Hollandaise sauce) - My friend and I ordered this. It was pretty good. I ended up not having enough room for one of the pieces of english muffin. The english muffin was pretty dense (almost like a bagel). Poached eggs were over-cooked. I'd definitely consider ordering this again with the hopes that the eggs would come out better next time. Full English Breakfast (€8.95 x2, 2 eggs, English breakfast sausages, bacon, Heinz baked beans, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes served with white or brown toast) - My other 2 friends each ordered this. One of them has been living in Amsterdam for 3 months and this is his favourite breakfast dish. It looked good and I'd consider having this for myself next time. Cheesecake (€3.75) - After our full breakfast, one of my friends wanted the cheesecake. It looked good, and probably was... he inhaled it. Along with two double cappuccinos (€4.40 x2), an English mélange tea and lapsang souchong (€2.40 x2), our bill came to €57.05 for the 4 of us. read more
After hours of wandering around to find the perfect spot for a late breakfast, I decided on Greenwood, due to the high reviews. It's a cute, little cafe with 10 tables indoors and 6 tables outdoors. Coming to the end of a breakfast rush, I managed to grab the only available table and I was greeted politely by a lovely waitress. I start by ordering a soy latte, the presentation wasn't the best but it came out quickly and tasted great ! They were happy to cater my request to swap the organic chicken for grilled tomato on the Greenhouse Breakfast. The portions are quite generous, which makes the price quite reasonable - average: £9,95 per meal - I would prefer smaller dishes though. Found this gem on our trip to Amsterdam. Food was incredible, classics with a yummy unique twist. We got the eggs benny and the mega club. It is a lot of food! We waited about 25 mins but worth the wait for a yummy brunch, good vibes, great service. We loved their fries!! read more

The BEST brunch place in Amsterdam. I went with a friend around 11am on a Saturday. There was a line out the door but it was definitely worth the wait. The restaurant is located along Singel, one of the most beautiful canals in Amsterdam and definitely less touristy than the Prisengracht. I recommend sitting outside because the atmosphere is spectacular. The inside of the restaurant is a bit cramped and dark but it seems cozy. I do not suggest going with a large group of friends. The restaurant is too small to accommodate large parties and I witnessed a group of eight struggle to find seating together. The food is absolutely unforgettable. I've never been a poached egg fan, but Greenwoods completely changed my mind. I ordered the Eggs Royale (Two poached eggs with smoked salmon on toasted English muffin, topped with Hollandaise sauce and garnished with fresh dill) with sautéed mushrooms. It was the best breakfast I have ever had. My meal was unforgettable. A few days later, I went to a Greenwoods location on Keizersgracht and I was a bit disappointed. The atmosphere was equally as lovely, but my food was not as amazing as I had expected. I ordered the same dish I mentioned earlier, but it was not the same. There was far less Hollandaise sauce, my English muffin was too thin, and I only got four whole mushrooms in a small cup. I assume it was a bad day in the kitchen, but I still recommend going to the Singel location over the Keizergracht location. Greenwoods on Singel is an amazing spot for brunch and I wish I was in Amsterdam long enough to return for high tea! read more

Not very big place, very crowded, but wow the food made everything worth it! Seems I don't have to go to the UK anymore for some good British food! Be prepared to wait for your meal. But then again, you'll be hungrier when you receive your food and it will taste even better ;) After the eggs benedict (I asked for bacon instead of ham), which was exquisite and looked picture perfect, I wasn't hungry anymore but was craving a scone, as you do... It did not take long for the waitress to serve it, I was quite disappointed that it wasn't heated but I soon noticed it was so good it didn't need being served warm. Too bad it's not the healthiest option for brunch or lunch, otherwise I would definitely go there more often! read more

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Small spot, cozy perhaps right on the canal. Kitchen is super small and they crank out some amazing breakfast. Benedict royale (with salmon and added avocado). Awesome. Soda bread was fantastic. The potatoes with garlic mayo. So tasty. This tiny place just cranks out killer food. They care about what they make and how they make it. Staff was pleasant the setting was just perfect. A true can't miss. We went for breakfast but they had entire lunch menu with a bunch of nice specials. The place is small so plan ahead. If you are into organic meals then this is definitely a place to check out. Not only are the prices actually pretty good (particularly since we were having quite a hard time trying to find a reasonably priced restaurant in this part of Amsterdam) but also the customer service was second to none, and considering we are talking about the Netherlands that is actually saying something (namely because I have always found the customer service in Amsterdam second to none, unless of course you land up here during one of the festivals, which can make it a little more problematic). I had the lamb burger, and my brother had the meatballs, and I have to admit the the lamb burger, which included fries, was nothing short of awesome. read more

I came here with my family for a brunch on a friday morning at 10. Luckily we made a reservation early enough, the place was fully booked and a long line was waiting outside! The place is small and you haven't that much space. But it's really lovely decorated and you can see directly into the narrow kitchen. They have an all day breakfast menu: http://greenwoods.eu/media/docs/singel/greenwoods_singel_menu.pdf I had the "Eggs Greenwoods": Two poached eggs, cottage cheese,avocado and organic chicken on our homemade soda bread, garnished with fresh herbs. It was really delicious!!! Definitely to recommend! The staff is friendly and the prices are fair (10 € for the eggs greenwoods). The only minus point is, that the door was open the whole stay, so the people waiting in line could enter. It rained and was cold outdoors, so there was a constant draft behind my back... read more

Best breakfast in Amsterdam! Made reservation for Greenwood's in Amsterdam while traveling, although a reservation is not needed if you arrive at opening. They fill up quickly, even on the week days (we went on a Wednesday.) Words cannot describe how amazing their vegetarian breakfast options are. I got the yoghurt bowl, a healthier option with Greek yogurt, fresh homemade granola, and assorted fruits. My daughter got the veggie, a huge plate with eggs, home style potatoes, avocado, mushrooms, cheese, and baked beans. She loved it so much that she wants to return to Amsterdam just to come here! They also offer suggestions to make your meal vegan, if you wish. The staff were extremely friendly and prompt as well. read more

This restaurant is very delicious and has a cozy feel to it. We got there early to get a seat. I had scramble eggs with some salmon side salad mushroom and tomato. Service is polite. Large serving of food, could not finish. Fresh juice is a must. Beet juice is the best. I did not like the coffee they served. We had a Latte there was more milk than expresso. Not strong enough. Had the healthy sandwich which was just so tasty. One of the best sandwiches I've had in my life. And I am a sandwich fiend. The soda bread and the fries. Incredible. And the chicken club sandwich. Melts in your mouth. Olga. My favorite. Better than the sandwiches. The sweetest, coolest, friendliest Italian in Amsterdam. Padua made a good one! Love the restaurant and my waitress! Best breakfast place ever. Nice in and out, awesome selection, top quality, so much taste, and the area is a hit for a good view. There may be a wait for a spot, but the area gives you a nice Zen feeling to see the architecture. Staff is really nice and accommodating, so tip them well! One of the best breakfast / brunch café's in town. It can get really busy and cramped because of its great reputation amongst tourist and locals. Great prices for great food. Had the English Breakfast and their delicious coffee for about 13 euros. read more

My husband found this place for a Valentine's Day spot for us to go with our 18-month old girl, that also served eggs benedict until late in the afternoon. He was spot on about them being child friendly, if a bit claustrophobically small, and they did serve eggs benedict until late into the afternoon, instead of running out of food by 1pm as is sadly common at many restaurants in this town. The eggs benedict though, what a weird and disappointing experience. The sauce was great, I wanted to have more of it! And all the ingredients tasted great, but for some reason the english muffin at the base was so rock hard, probably from over toasting, that I couldn't cut through it with my knife. In retrospect I should have sent it back, but I was too distracted with baby wrangling to think of that. Instead I soldiered on by picking up the eggs benedict like an open-faced sandwich and eating it with my hands. That went ok except for the part where the ham on the english muffin kept holding on by a string to the ham in my mouth every time I took a bite, so I ended up with this string of ham flossing my two front teeth every time I took a bite, and I had to manually break the meat off from my mouth with my fingers so I could pull the eggs benedict away from my face. And the english muffin was so immensely dry that it felt like all the moisture was being sucked out of my body, and into the black hole that was the english muffin's nooks and crannies. I don't care how good the sauce is, when I feel like I'm being parched from the inside by the food I'm eating, I just can't enjoy more subtle things like sauce flavor. I tried to quench my thirst with a very expensive pot of white tea, which had the lovely apricot flavor notes that they advertised, but it wasn't enough. It was also weird that they give you a timer so you know how long to steep the tea, but they don't give you any way to remove the tea leaves from the tea pot when the tea is ready so you don't end up with one perfectly steeped pot and then everything after is more and more bitter due to the tea leaves being in the water too long. My husband enjoyed his club sandwich, but I thought it was so odd they serve the sandwich with the same Lays potato chips you buy at the grocery store. I mean you have a kitchen there, can't you make fries? Overall there were a lot of things this place did right, including decently fast service, but the things they did wrong were so wrong, I am not going out of my way to come back. If I do end up there again I'll give the eggs benedict another chance, and if it's still messed up, I'll give them a good talking to. read more

I came in here randomly to escape the rain and ordered an Earl Grey tea and the Smoked Salmon on Soda Bread. The food was fresh and good quality. Service was also great. This was my first meal in Amsterdam, so I didn't really know how tipping worked, and the waitress actually apologized to us because we weren't able to tip after swiping the card - which I found funny. read more

Cute brunch place on the canal! It's a bit small, so be prepared for that. But the food was great (I got the breakfast omelette special with homemade soda bread). They have a decent sized menu for brunch, coffee and lots of teas. We got to sit outside so our view was perfect! read more

This was the best meal my friend and I have ever eaten. I'm from Chicago and she is from New York and we stumbled upon this place. Very highly recommend. We talked about this meal the entirety of our time in Amsterdam and our meal was still on our mind after an entire month in Paris. GO. Worth every penny and every minute waiting in line. read more
how much i love this place with its woody earthy ambience. one of my favourite place for breakfast and one of the reason i like this app. they serve a variety of breakfast dishes and sandwiches. everything i had in my visits was lovely. wether you would like a light meal or a full breakfast experience they got you covered. and lets not forget the charming lady, who like a bee flies from table to table carrying all the goods and with warm smile on top of it. cannot wait to go back again.. read more

What an adorable little restaurant right along the canal! I had the Portobello Mushroom sandwich and my friend got the Full English breakfast and both were great options. We also had Darjeeling tea and the homemade soda bread which was warm, sweet, and buttery. Perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack! read more
