I took it to this small, hardly noticeable body shop on route 303, by the Oasis gas station, for an estimate cost to fix it. Larry, the owner gave me an estimate which was several hundred dollars less than the insurance estimate. He asked if the insurance was paying and I let him know they were and what their estimate was--but he said I could keep the difference. He did an awesome job, in only 1 1/2 days, and matched the paint beautifully... and he did all this with uncommon old school grace. Then he charged me even less than his own estimate! So it's fixed but when I left I noticed a loud hum coming from the back. I called them and they said the gears had been damaged some from low fluid in it. (I expected that) but they did not replace the gears and was told I could live with the noise.... I wish they would have called me and let me make the choice, I would have had them replace the gears. Despite no proof and no diagnosis, we offered a replacement unit in good faith. What happened next is what everyone needs to know: Ruben sent his mechanic, who openly told our office that his boss does this to every junkyard--buys parts, gets a receipt, charges his own customer, and then returns the part just to get the money without using it. According to his own employee, this is a routine scam. When I learned this, I asked to speak directly with Ruben. I offered to give him another part, but I made it clear I wanted to meet him in person and take his picture so others in our industry could be warned. Instead of showing up, he ran online to leave us a false bad review. Let this be known: This kind of dishonest behavior wastes time, hurts small businesses, and deceives customers. We've dealt with returns from this shop before and we will no longer do business with him. If you're a mechanic, a supplier, or a customer, be careful who you trust. We are filing a formal complaint to the BBB (Better Business Bureau). We encourage all junkyards and honest businesses to share this post and stop this scam. Enough is enough. We stand for honesty and accountability.
