I really wanted to like this classic bakery but unfortunately I didn't. We have so many other excellent bakeries all over El Paso. If you include home bakers in the mix, there are plenty more. I'm going to say 2.5 but round up to 3 on this one. A lot of people like their signature frosting but I didn't at all...not even a little bit. It was overly sweet for me. The sweetness of the frosting on top of a cupcake can make or break it. In this case, it broke it royally. I had to scrape it all off the cupcake before eating the cake part. I just couldn't stand the taste or smell of this frosting. I hear it's made with almonds. It didn't taste like almonds at all imo. All I tasted was a ton of sugar. I think I even felt the texture of grainy sugar in the frosting. It was almost like the frosting was crunchy from so much sugar in it. Perhaps that was the almonds that people mention? Personally, I prefer whipped cream or cream cheese frosting. It isn't as sweet. It's also smoother and fluffier. Fondant (which I hate eating too) would've been better than the frosting here. I paid $7 for a half dozen of strawberry cupcakes. The cake without the frosting was pretty good. It was moist and fluffy. That's why I'm rounding up to three stars. The customer service was ok, nothing spectacular. The guy who was helping me was ok. He did his job but didn't go above and beyond. The bakery didn't have anything else to sell aside from cupcakes and cakes. I expected a larger variety of baked goods. It's still Covid times so there's that. Maybe just maybe if the frosting was different, I would come back. If not, I wouldn't return. read more

Holy moley! Greggerson's you have a forever fan in me! I've tried a few different bakeries when buying cakes and if you're looking for a buttercream frosted cake, nothing compares. I went in earlier this week to place an order for Friday with only a small idea of what I wanted. My exact words? Small and girly. The lady at the register was already helping a guest when I arrived, but another lady came out from the back and was ready to help me. Now that's what I'm talking about. Going in, I wasn't exactly sure of the skill set so I didn't want to ask for the world only to receive a small island, but after she asked me some questions and showed me some designs on cakes and cupcakes that they had on hand I felt pretty confident that they'd be able to execute a beautiful cake. So we landed on their smallest chocolate cake with roses and butterfly (non-edible) in pastel colors. All of this for $15! And you're probably thinking, how big was a $15 cake? We had seven people eat into this cake and the birthday girl still ended up going home with at least half a cake. I can't say size in inches for sure, but I'll just say that the diameter was the size I'm used to seeing, it was just a little shorter than most (but it actually gave a better cake to frosting ratio). The cake was amazing! And the frosting was by far the best buttercream I've ever had. The chocolate cake was moist with the perfect amount of sweetness. Gahhhhh... the buttercream. They do an Amaretto flavored buttercream and jeez that stuff is heavenly. I'm not usually a fan of buttercream because it tends to just taste like sugar to me, but Greggerson's buttercream is the stuff of dreams. I would legit eat this buttercream frosting by itself. Great bakery for your cake and cupcake needs. I recommend them for any kind of occasion that calls for a cake. New to El Paso and was wanting a cake for my daughter's graduation. Asked around and several people recommended Greggerson's. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. Walked in the store and was not greeted in any manner. There were a few people waiting in the lobby, so I stood in line. I was with a friend, another newbie, who was also wanting a cake. When it was our turn, the lady behind the counter just stared at us and waited for us to speak. There isn't any kind of signage showing any options like cake flavors, sizes, prices, etc. There isn't any kind of book with photos to give you inspiration if you aren't sure of what you want. When we asked if she had anything to give us ideas, she pulled out a sheet of paper that showed different icing fonts. She offered no suggestions or explanations whatsoever. So, we got through that, figured out our cakes and what we'd like written on them. I must add, the entire time she was waiting on us, she was halfway doing other tasks as well, so I felt very rushed and like I was bothering her. The day comes to pickup my cake. The decorations looked great but the wording was sloppy, crooked and grammatically incorrect, to include lack of punctuation that I had specified. I was very disappointed. The cake was also not wrapped or covered. It was in a makeshift box with no lid and just a flimsy piece of plastic wrap over the top that didn't even cover the whole top. I wanted nothing more to do with this place, so I paid and left without a word. I will say, I did think the price was fair for the size/design I wanted. I ordered a vanilla cake with raspberry filling. The cake was very dry and the filling was like a thick, fake pie filling glaze. I was not impressed. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but my cake combined with lack of customer service, left me feeling so disappointed. read more

The first time I had cake from here I was very impressed. My aunt ordered one in April and one in May. Both were absolutely delicious, moist, and the butter cream frosting they used was not overly sweet, just perfect. The smell was immaculate and there is like a hint almond in the frosting. The filling was also good, one was lemon, the other raspberry! They also have smaller cakes, cupcakes, and brownies for sale. It's not a typical bakery, as they specialize in cakes for all occasions. I also liked that the 2nd lady gave us both a free cupcake, when it's only supposed to be 1 free cupcake per order. Great service, very fast, and they do things right. Their cakes are absolutely delicious! I don't typically like the butter-cream icing on cakes but if I had to choose a butter-cream cake that I would eat, I would choose Greggerson's cakes over any other! The Amaretto/almond style flavor of the icing is like no other and it really balances the flavors of the cake. I will admit, it is a little bit of a sugar overload but the flavor makes it all worth it. The other benefit of slicing up one of their cakes is that they are an El Paso, homegrown, family business. Let me start off by saying, I have a sweet tooth. I specifically love cake and cake in cup form. I was very excited to try this cake cottage because I have heard many good things. First things first, I wasn't very impressed with the aesthetics of the bakery itself. You walk in and it isn't very welcoming, but almost cold. But need that be, I was there for CAKE. They have cupcakes displayed on the side in packages of 6. I chose the chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting. I must say I loved the flower that is decorated out of frosting that is on each cupcake. I eat my cupcakes with a fork, I find it less messy. As soon as I got home, I got my fork and dove right in. First thing that jumped at me : THE FROSTING! The frosting has this amazing lingering almond extract flavor. It is also VERY sweet. But like I said, I have a sweet tooth, so I didn't mind one bit. Now to the actually cake itself... DRY. Very dry unfortunately. This cake is the type of cake that you HAVE to have a glass of milk with. I've had a fair amount of cake in my life, and the only other cake that I had that was that dry, was my own, that I made when I was 8. I really wanted to love this bakery. I had asked for a recommendation from friends on where to go for a great tasting cake in the Far East area of El Paso, and Greggerson's Cake Cottage came up. I ordered a 9 inch round cake, decorated like a rosebud. Having worked at an upscale bakery for almost 4 years, while in school, I was surprised to hear that Greggerson's does not deal with whipped cream at all. As the gentleman taking my order added, "We're known for our buttercream icing". I thought, "Okay, if they are famous for their buttercream icing, I trust it will be wonderful". Upon pick up, the cake was absolutely beautiful - couldn't wait to taste it. The cake was kept in a walk-in fridge at the venue were we had the party, and when it was time to serve it, many of us were disappointed. The cake was 2 thick layers. I selected 1 chocolate layer and 1 vanilla layer, with Bavarian cream filling. The cake was so thick and the filling so thin, that it just came across as extremely dry. Furthermore, it crumbled as we were serving each piece - there was just no moisture at all to keep it together. The "famous icing" was not something that should be touted. It had a strong aroma and flavor that was not your typical vanilla buttercream. It was heavy in the flavor of almond extract. No doubt the almond flavoring is what sets Greggerson's apart from other bakeries, but either the decorator used too much of the extract or I just have a different taste palette from a lot of the other reviewers. Most of the guests (18 people) scraped off the icing as the flavor was simply not good. The price point for the cake was right on, though. I paid $43 for a custom decorated cake. I thought I was getting a deal as a cake like that would easily be double in Southern California bakeries. I think the work it took to make it beautiful was worth $43, but the cake flavor itself was bland...not delicious at all. All you could taste was almond extract and most of us asked for drink refills at the same time because the cake was so dry. read more

When i tried to order a cake with a custom drawn image for my friend's 21st birthday, the very angrily refused stating that it was copyrighted. When I tried to explain that the image was drawn and not a simple copy, they seemed to not care, eventually just refusing saying they refused to hear any explanation.
