It is situated near to a busy residential area and is quite a favourite with those living in the neighbouring estates. It is also beside a major route bus-stop and as such attracts people who go in to buy themselves a breakfast or lunch ready for the working day. Previously a convenience store, the building is quite big and roomy inside. There is space to move around so even when busy you feel comfortable with space to move. There is a large glass fronted counter behind which the staff serve. They have a wide selection of savoury and sweet homebaked style products which are always ultra fresh and which smell delightful. I find that the staff here will go out of their way to help. I recently went looking for a specific food item and even though they didn't have it recommended and sold me something that replaced the item nicely. They are friendly and seem to enjoy what they do. There is no parking spaces near the store except on the residential street areas.

For winter months they have 2 main buildings and 2 out-houses which are very pretty and well decorated inside. Post-birthday night out I was a little worse for wear and ready for a full English and a good cup of tea unfortunately the breakfast cut off point is at 11.30 however I wasn't too disappointed as the rest of the menu left plenty of tantalizing options for me to choose from! The waitress came over to take our orders and helped me choose between 2 dishes that I was torn over. The drinks service was a little slow but the food was timey and the presentation on all the dishes was amazing! My Dad opted for a seafood platter, which came with smoked salmon, crayfish, cockles, mackerel and crab slaw all served with sourdough bread, hollandaise and aioli sauces - seafood heaven! My Mum went for the lamb and goats cheese burger that was divine! The lamb was cooked to perfection with it being pink in the middle and served with a yummy mint yogurt dip and sun-dried tomatoes. I was stuck between the club sandwich and BBQ pulled pork open sandwich. On recommendation I went for the pork, which was served, on sourdough toast with melted Monterey cheese - heaven! I was having food-envy looking at the lamb burger but was not in anyway disappointed with my pork. Finishing off our meal with the Parlour's specialty - ice creams all round! I have a new found love for the homemade lemon meringue cone... There is so many flavours including apple pie and the originals too - its an ice cream lovers heaven! Our leisurely lunch here was fab and they are also promoting the "Super Club" on the 18th of July that is a diner's paradise! With three courses plus their homemade ice cream at £25 a head it doesn't break the bank either. This place was definitely worth the 20-minute drive and I will be back to try their dinner menu!

It was a really yummy cake! The sitting rooms were so cute, we were in the garden shed , and there was the main room, and the ice cream parlour and outdoor sitting. A really well done place, with layout and set up. Sometimes tea shops along the high way have a whole room full of junk they are trying to sell to you and then cramped sitting. But not here I think I saw a few cute things for sale but mostly they were focused on their food and I was told famous ice cream! Well done for keeping the place about whats most important... the food! Friendly service and tasty treats. It was a bit slow because they were super packed and under staff. The waiter apologised for the wait and said someone had called in ill! I can only rate it on the cake and coffee because I didn't eat anything there but I imagine it would be good .

I only found this branch of Greggs by chance - I have never noticed it before until a few months…read moreago when I needed to visit one of the building nearby, despite being on the quayside quite a lot! Is it a new branch? I don't know. Anyway, it's only a tiny branch I guess it's mainly there to service those who work at the numerous solicitors nearby. They don't have a great deal of choice in sandwiches unlike the massive Greggs on Northumberland street, but they do have the usual sausage rolls and pasties. What I find slightly offputting is there is always a Big issue seller perched outside the door just waiting. I have nothing against Big issue sellers but I always feel so guilty passing them by! Anyway all in all this is a nice little branch, well located especially for the Great North run and other events which centre around the Quayside.

I'll point out that the Seaton Delaval ice cream place is known as Wriggis and has been run for generations by the same Italian family. Risis Ices is celebrating the company's 110th anniversary this year (2008) and it has been there since before the Tyne bridge was built. An Italian family started the business and still keep it running today. The ice cream on offer is all homemade and there are too many different flavours to choose from. There are traditional Italian ones like zuppa inglese to seasonal flavours such as Christmas pudding. Hot and cold drinks can be bought and there are plenty of cones and wafers. I usually go mad and get a glass filled colourful combo with the craziest colours and flavours topped with sprinklys and sauce. Don't even think about ordering vanilla because that would just make you look boring and dull. On a nice day you can take out and stroll along the picturesque quayside, or just sit on the window stools and chill. Simply the best ice cream ever!

In fact, we took up a majority of the rooms offered here. The proprietors and employees are so kind and wish to make you feel at home. Breakfast is included in the tea room with your room and never disappoints especially when enjoyed in the Guest House private garden located in the back of the house. The rooms range from small double-sized beds to large "family" rooms all with en-suite washrooms. Clean, comfortable, and its superb location (next door to Salutation Inn pub and in the heart of bustling and beautiful ocean-side Tynemouth with train access to Newcastle approx 5 minute walk) only enhance the guest houses' already appealing price. If you're lucky enough to snag the room at the back of the house with the private patio porch looking over South Shields, then do so! The only problem with this room is that the door outside is your only access to fresh air (not so great on a rainy day). I would 100% recommend No. 61 Guest House to anyone visiting Tynemouth.

Breakfast was hot and plentiful, the beds were comfortable, bathrooms very clean and generally was a pleasant stay. Tynemouth is a very pretty village in itself. The only problem is parking at weekends (very busy in the village). We had a bit of confusion over the price quote on the phone to us and the price we ended up paying, so get confirmation in writing of how much you are paying before you go.

It is a small shop but well stocked with all the products that you know and love; cakes, sandwiches, pastys, sausage rolls and an assortment of bread rolls and loaves, which can be cut up to your requirements. You know what you get with Greggs, they are popular because they are cheap and convenient.
