Gretna Small Engine has very reasonable prices and does quality repair work. That's not just my opinion either. In shopping for a riding mower, I found two big box retailers that carried the same mower, but could not beat GSE's price. What surprised me further was that both of them send their occasionable defective (new) mowers and warranty work locally to GSE for repairs. My old lawn service used GSE too. That's why I went to GSE in the first place. When business professionals trust a certain shop for work that has to be done right the first time, it means more to me. Stay away. Something has changed. I can handle most things EXCEPT being lied to. They called to tell me my Cub Cadet would be ready to go tomorrow and recommended that they put on new blades. When I said, "No thanks." he confessed that they had already put on new blades. I said, "So I can pick it up today. Did you save the old blades? Most businesses save the old parts." He didn't know. The bill was over $300. To clean a carburetor? He said, "We did a complete tune up." "I didn't ask for that. I asked just to get it started." I took it to GSE because it would not start after replacing the battery and spark plugs, cleaning the air filter, using only new gas. Listed what I had done and they attached my sheet to the work order. I felt all they needed to do was to clean the carburetor and change the air filter. Here is what the bill said I owed. New spark plugs, new blades, complete tune up, air filter, oil change [ the previous Fall I had them put in a new oil plug [it was leaking] so the oil was pristine and full when I took it this time], scraped the undercarriage [I had already done this]. They charge $100/hour for labor. The tractor was clean when I delivered it. Now it was splattered with black oil and had clay caked into the tires...more than any test drive. The hours read 318 when I dropped it off. It read 333 when I picked it up. Did they rent it out or use it themselves. No wonder they had to change the oil and scrape the bottom! When I complained and asked for the bill to reflect what I asked, the man told me never to come back...as if I would! I expected to pay about $150, they would only take off the oil change. I'm somewhat suspicious of them. I'd been mowing for several hours with no problems and apparently refilled it with old gas and a fuel line clogged up. We could keep it running strong by pushing the primer so I'm sure that's what it was. Took them weeks to even look at and it came back blowing smoke and barely running. I was told it had a bad crankshaft and a host of other issues that had suddenly developed between the time I poured in a tank of gas and it being returned to me. The mower was two years old and now it's pretty worthless. read more

I have been waiting on them to repair my mower now for almost a month, they have failed to call me back when they said that they would. The problem they are telling me that the belt that I need is still on order. That's funny because I located one in Omaha , that is a stock item. I will never buy or take anything else to them again. Wish I could give 0 stars. Unethical and greedy business charged my $48 to move a washer on my gas edger. Took less than 5 minutes. I bought my mower there ($1,100) and take it and my snow blower there regularly. This was pure greed. I expect to pay for service but this was ridiculous. So, I will never use them for service, nor will I purchase anything from them again. read more

I run a lawn service company here in Omaha. I found this business while looking to purchase a Ferris mower. When I stopped in, the manager helped me promptly. He was very knowledgeable in regards to all my many questions about the different units he had for sale. I purchased a 52" zero turn Ferris mower and have been VERY satisfied with its performance so far. Since then, I have needed a few parts here and there. I have always gone back to GSE to purchase these items. They have ALWAYS gone over and above to satisfy my needs. Few examples of great customer service. Running a lawn service, mowers are used and abused 10-12 hrs a day. Things break down and down time is money lost. First experience, I ran into the store, purchased a new belt. This was the first replacement and I had NO CLUE how the belt went on. The manager stopped what he was doing, had me pull the mower into their incredibly busy shop. He walked me through the steps to replace the belt. It took maybe 15-20 min start to finish. I was back up and running. He didn't charge me a dime for his time. I was VERY impressed. Second time the belt broke, I was working deep inside Omaha. I called GSE around 4 and purchased another belt. There was no way I could make it all the way to Gretna by the time the store closed. Again, the manager went over and above! He told me a inconspicuous spot outside that he would hide my replacement belt. I arrived long after the store had closed, sure enough, the replacement belt was exactly where he said it would be! Customer service after the new mower purchase and in general is above standard! I dropped off my snow blower for repair. It needed new paddles and a scraper. I was told ten days and I would have it back. GSE sent me a text 7 days later and said the machine was repaired and ready for pickup. I went to GSE to pick it up and they said it was not done and they were not going to repair it, because they could not stand by their work. I asked why did you send me a text saying the machine was done when it wasn't. The employee behind the counter got arrogant and said someone should have called you. They didn't. I wasted my time driving across town for nothing. The employee got smart with me and through the repair sheet at me and it fell on the floor. I asked him if he thought I should pick it up? No response. The owner was there and he had nothing to say. I was told to wait in my vehicle and they would bring the machine out. I waited and they never brought it out. It wasn't worth picking up and so I just left. Would not recommend this business for repairs on anything with the bad attitude that the employees have toward the customers. read more

I dropped off my pressure washer the first week in April. I was told it would be 2 weeks to repair. Going on a month now! Every time I call they say we will get on it today. This has be going on for a week. Not sure why they run TV ads as they cant take care of the people they have. read more

Bought a lawn tractor here two years ago. Had a problem with it this week. Took it in (not a close drive for me) to talk over possible problems. They would not even triage (look at) the problem. I did not expect the problem to get fixed right then and there but a "needs to stay; or; belt problem, would have been nice. Ended up taking it back to a different location (Little Engine, 5717 N. 90th St Omaha, closer to me) and they took the time to diagnose a belt and a pulley (7 minutes). Little Engines Had the same turnaround time as Gretna did but they (Little Engine) took the time that GSE did not. Will never take the drive to have my Cub Cadet Services there again. read more

These guys do a $48 mower tune-up special each Spring with pick-up service available. Unhappy about the sharpness of my mower blades from the previous year, I specifically asked that they sharpen the blades, and let them know about the previous year. After paying $91 for the $48 tune-up special, THEY NEVER EVEN TOOK THE BLADES OF MY MOWER TO SHARPEN THEM! It's maddening! The top set of blades weren't touched, and still had the factory paint on the blades. Fool me twice, shame on me...Never Again! read more

I own a small lawn service business. I've bought almost my entire inventory from GSE. (Edger, Trimmer, Blower, Honda push mower, Ferris 48 inch ZTR, Cub Cadet 33 inch mower). I've worked with a couple different of their employees, but Bryan the most. He's awesome. He's very knowledgeable and gives great advice based on his own personal experiences. Always been impressed with the sales and service of these guys. Over the last 7 years, I've purchased 2 mowers, a leaf blower, weed eater and chain saw. All of my service work has been handled by them, as well. Many people complain about how long it takes to get service work done no matter what the business. What they need to keep in mind though is the season of which they're asking for the service to be done. You can't expect a mower tune-up and/or repair to happen overnight in March & April...everyone and their dog is doing the same thing. I take my mower in to be serviced in the fall so that it's ready for next season. And the opposite with my snow blower. Small town business with a smile and support. Reminds me of home. read more

Horrible service.....had rider picked up for sharpening they called said belt was worn so had it replaced delivered mower blade would not engage.....picked it up again said they would have it back in two days waiting now and said it would be 5 more days at least have used before but quality and service have gone down hill read more

Called to ask a question about my toro lawn mower. The representative that answered the phone was extremely arrogant and rude. He hung up on me before my questions were answered. I was in market to buy multiple brand new lawn mowers (there goes that sell). They will never get my business and I've already been telling family and friends about this horrible experience. I hope they get their commercials off the air soon because there are much better places to shop for all your outdoor needs with superior customer service in the Omaha Metro compared to Gretna Small Engine. read more

I've taken my mower and snow blower here for years. Lately, I've noticed a marked down-turn in their quality. Last summer I took in my mower for a tune-up, oil change, blade sharpening, etc. A few weeks later they called and said it was done. I asked if they sharpened the blade. Oh yeah. Came in to pick it up, asked again, same answer. Got it home, turned it over out of curiosity (I know I should have done this while it was still at the shop, but I was in a hurry) sure enough, blade was untouched. I ended up taking it off and driving all the way back out the next day to get it sharpened. Now to their credit, they took care of it right away and didn't argue. Feeling a bit skeptical now, I nevertheless decide to take in my POS snow blower that refused to start. A few weeks later, all tuned up and ready to roll. They even wanted to replace some kind of Teflon skid pads. Loaded her up, took it home and noticed I forgotten to mention the missing bolt and thumb screw missing on one side of the exhaust chute and wondering why they hadn't noticed that too. I went to fire it up and noticed one of the tires was flat. A common issue with wheels that have plastic rims. But again I wondered why didn't they catch this too? In the long run it's the small things that count. And it seems like GSE is getting too big for the small things. read more

Bought a rider here about 6 years ago, and have had it serviced a few times. They have pickup/drop-off service for riders. A little far, but better to buy a Cub Cadet from a dealer than a big box store. Your warranty repair would just get shipped here anyway. Only complaint is their phone line is always busy, getting through can take awhile. read more

My 74 year old mother bought a toro zero turn from these guys a year ago. She took it in for an oil change and blade sharpening a year later. She had about 20 hours on the mower. They did a full "tune up" that included changing the fuel and air filters, spark plugs, and swapped out the battery and put a tube in the tire. None of that was authorized nor recommended by the manufacturer. Total bill came to $330! I called to complain and they said they never do work that isn't authorized and a lot of people get this service so they don't follow the manufacturers recommendations. We had the old battery checked and it was fine, just a little low on charge from sitting over the winter. We took it in and were then told they just check the charge and put a new one in if it is low, and expect the customer to return it if the old one is good. Also told they couldn't find the original ticket so they 'recreated' one that showed she requested a full tune up and new tire tube. They wouldn't make it right and said "we get 30+ customers a day" and very clearly let us know our business wasn't important. I would avoid them like the plague, especially if you are a senior citizen or female. read more
