Separate room for sink instead of inside the bathroom

Overall I felt the room was renovated a few years ago and not recent. The room was located at the Mountain View building at the main floor and not the basement or upper floor. The fire place is a false fireplace that blow out hot air. The bed frame is a metal box that creeks. The mattress overall wasn't great, felt worn. Blankets were iffy, but no bedbugs! If you are a light sleeper, be prepared to bring ear plugs. At night we heard the pipes either from the heating system or water banging. Also, noise from the upper floor unit can be heard when they're walking, door banging and pipes from toilet flushes and showers.

I stayed one night at the Grey Fox and I have to thank Brittany (sp?) for being so amazingly awesome. It seems that I'm out of the habit of booking my hotel reservations because I accidentally picked Monday night instead of Tuesday night so when I showed up on Tuesday (literally as she was going home for the night), they did not have a booking for me. Brittany got it set and even though they probably should have charged me for the night before, they did not. So kudos to her and that's why this is a five star review. My upstairs room was very warm when I got there. I turned on the wall air conditioning unit but it really couldn't keep the place anywhere near cool or comfortable. It was a warm night's sleep. Bed was comfortable but the temperature was not. I had a lovely shower that night with a decent amount of hot water. Rinsed off the sweat and got as cool as I could. In the morning, not so much. I could barely get the water to come out warm. Uncomfortable. The room was spacious with a large queen bed and a fold out sofa with a small coffee service and a mini-fridge. Large flat panel television on the wall and a decent (though filtered) wifi network. Overall, I'd probably not choose the Grey Fox again for a summer stay.

Even though it seemed all the rooms were booked last weekend, the hotel was very quiet. The rooms have Beekman products like soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner (which I love). What I didn't like was the coffee pod left in the machine when I went to make a morning coffee. Kind of gross. But everything else was clean. There was a fridge, microwave, balcony, indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and a small fitness area. I also didn't like the app to download which is how you unlock the room door. It was pretty glitchy but the front desk gave us a key card to use instead. Overall, I'd stay here again.

What a wonderful centrally located place to stay when in Stowe! Can walk to downtown and many restaurants nearby. All the staff were Helpful and went out of their way to be sure we had a perfect experience! I recommend you stay in the separate building where we stayed in a lovely room with kitchen stocked with all needed to store, cook and serve meals. Our room also had a beautiful fireplace, large smart TV, deck and view to the greens and forest behind the buildings. You could walk over to the recreation path that takes you to town and all along the Little River! There is a "Stowe Quiet Path" you can pick up from the paved rec path. All so very lovely! I walked miles while hubby went fly-fishing. After all these good workouts, I enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor pools at the Grey Fox as well as the sauna and whirlpool spa!!! And we loved having a cozy fire every am and pm! Loved, loved, loved our stay at the Grey Fox Inn!!

Overall very satisfied with my stay. When I first checked in I was in an older remodeled room in the main building. The first night a leak started in my bathroom that came from the room above me. After speaking with management, they were very accommodating and promptly upgraded me to a new room at no extra charge of course. The new building has very nice rooms. The beds are comfy and there kitchen has all the essentials to cook. Our cleaning service came everyday and did a very good job. The WiFi worked well and the tv was brand new with cable. I even tried out the swim/sauna and it was really nice. Brand new and clean. I was pleasantly surprised with my stay at Grey Fox and would definitely stay there again. Tip: if it snows you may get stuck in the lot, don't expect them to plow everyday.

The staff was warm and friendly. I only have one criticism. While the A/C was working, we had difficulty regulating it to feel comfortable. It was rather cold and clammy at night, but by morning, we felt fine. It wasn't so much the cold part that bothered me, but the clammy part was what got to me. Everyone kept saying how unseasonably hot and humid it was for Stowe, so who knows... maybe the A/C just had difficulty regulating itself... or we didn't know how to use it properly. It wasn't bad, per se, but it was a little uncomfortable some of the time. The room overall, though, was really great. Also, we loved that they had Netflix and Amazon Prime, so we could settle into the shows we were missing while traveling. That was a nice surprise ! Most hotels don't offer any of that. We had planned to dine out at one of the local restaurants, but we found out they were serving dinner at Grant's, the inn's restaurant. We were tired after traveling around all day, so we stayed at the inn and ate a great meal at Grant's. (See separate review for that.) Also, the common areas in the main building next to the restaurant are very tastefully appointed, spacious, with lots of games, books and sitting areas for people to utilize. We walked around them to see what there was but returned to our room to relax and watch some of our shows. My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. One night in Stowe just isn't enough, especially at the Stowe Village Inn. Let's hope there will be a next time !

The thermostat in the room didn't do much to control the heat. I think we got lucky finding the apartment available because it appears to be fully booked for the foreseeable future. The parking is not immediately outside each room so you park temporarily to unload and then move your car to the actual parking area. It really wasn't bad, even in the rain, and it's a very short walk. We brought our dog so just know, you have to go through multiple doors to get outside. The walls were kind of thin so we, and our vocal dog, heard the neighbors next to us come and go, as well as the rooms under the apartment. I can't say I'd want to be in the rooms under the apartment because I'm sure us walking around was loud. The bar looked swanky and fun but we had our dog and they strictly state you cannot leave your dog alone in your room. The sauna was out of commission or maybe it was the hot tub, either way we had no plans to use either, although they looked luxurious outside in the elements. I grabbed coffee one morning as they were closing breakfast, and it was incredibly watery. I can only hope there was an error making that days. My husband and I had to dump it out. The breakfast spread looked incredible, and picked over, so I brought is each a tiny piece of quiche, which was super good. The room had…read morewiring and slip hazards that have no business existing at $300 a night, and their reservation system lost us entirely. There's a 4-star half a mile down the road. I don't normally review a place on a single visit -- I want to know a business is consistent before I say anything. The exceptions are when I'm traveling, or when the experience is memorable enough to warrant it, for good or ill. This one is both. First things first: the maintenance crew was EXCELLENT. They showed up fast when the AC wasn't working (in JULY), fixed what they could on the spot, and not once did anyone argue or imply we were imagining the problem. That's rarer than it should be. The manager also went out of her way with gluten-free dining recommendations around town, which -- as someone who travels with GF folks -- I don't take for granted. And the food at the on-site restaurant was great... though it may have been catered. Sadly, the maintenance crew cannot carry the weight of this building's problems. Let's start before we even got there. Booking took MONTHS to get corrected (not joking; started in late summer of 2025, a year beforehand). The phone number on their website, and on every confirmation email they sent, is an 888 number that does not reach the hotel. Not "takes a while to reach." Does not reach. Changes we made by phone evaporated. Voicemails went unreturned. Booking inside the wedding room block seemed to genuinely baffle whoever picked up. The payoff: we walked up to the desk Friday and were told our reservation had been CANCELLED, because their system still had us as a Thursday no-show. We'd changed it to Friday-Sunday weeks earlier. Confirmed it. By phone. On the number they gave us. Then, Room 306: 1. No phone in the room. No posted front desk number anywhere. To reach the front desk of the hotel I was standing inside of, I had to Google it on my cell -- and Google gave me inconsistent numbers. Seriously? 2. Both A/C units were broken or barely functional on arrival. Maintenance swapped the sitting-area unit same day and it was flawless afterward. The bedroom unit never worked correctly. Not once, all weekend. 3. Both bedside lamps and both nightstands -- each with a 3-prong outlet and a USB port -- all ran off ONE wall outlet, through a daisy chain of splitters and extension cords. The wall switch on the left did absolutely nothing. The one on the right killed the lamps AND the nightstand power, which is where my medically necessary CPAP was plugged in. So both nights I had to unplug both lamps by hand in order to sleep, and every morning plug them back in. Inconvenience aside: that is a LOT of load on one outlet. 4. The bathtub had no anti-slip surface, no grab bar, and sat at a genuinely noticeable tilt. I slipped more than once and caught myself. I got lucky. Someone won't. 5. The bathroom has no vent. Its ventilation is a wooden-framed window in the wall by the room door -- no screen, no frosting, no privacy anything. Open it and you're open to the weather and to whoever's walking past. 6. That bathroom's only light is a dim fixture hung low over the sink. It doesn't light the room, and I hit my head on it repeatedly. The two overhead lights in the room proper are the opposite problem: bright enough to give you a headache. There is nothing in between. 7. The TV is enormous and mounted where you have to crane your neck sideways at it, instead of on the wall the bed faces. Someone chose that on purpose. 8. Anemic water pressure, and several minutes of running the tap before anything got warm. All of this ran roughly $300 a night. I want to be fair to the people who work here, because they were good to us every single time. But no amount of good service fixes four devices chained out of one outlet, or a tilted tub with nothing to grab. Fix the wiring and the bathroom and this is a different review. Until then -- there's a 4-star HALF A MILE DOWN THE ROAD that's better in every way that matters.

After reporting the issue, we were moved to another room, only to find it had a portable air conditioner that couldn't keep up with the size of the room. There was also a note on the thermostat stating that the central air conditioning was not working due to ongoing renovations. The most frustrating part is that we were never informed before our arrival that the air conditioning was unavailable because of renovations. This is something guests deserve to know in advance, especially during the summer. Beyond the air conditioning issues, the hotel is clearly showing its age. Many areas appear worn and in need of maintenance, with few signs that repairs or updates have been made. It no longer reflects the quality you would expect from a resort. Customer service throughout our stay was disappointing. While we were eventually moved to another room, there was little acknowledgment of the inconvenience or effort to make the situation right.
