My first trip back to Grey Fox Inn in 7 years. Check in was easy, very friendly and helpful gentleman at the front desk. Our room was comfy and clean. The sitting area in the lobby has games and books available for guests. Very inviting. There is an indoor pool located in the main building as well as a fitness room. Unfortunately we weren't able to eat at the restaurant as it was outside of our skiing time. Maybe next time. Parking was convenient right outside the door. read more

This hotel is very cute. They have a really nice sauna indoor pool and an actual real hot tub instead of just a whirlpool. You can stay in the room's attached to the main area or you can stay in the ones on the side or in the back they have a outside pool in the back but it is obviously closed in the winter. There is an ice machine in the main building along with coin operated washer and dryer as well as an exercise room on the third floor. It was quiet you didn't hear too many other people and the woman at the front desk was very nice. I would definitely recommend this place. It's also right in the center of everything so you can walk to restaurants and the walking/biking trail is right in the back. read more

Management is not fair. We are senior citizens and do not have a lot of money. They charged us for 2 nights and we only stayed 1 night. Again i am senior citizens and did not realize you charged me for 2 nights and we only stayed 1. $220.80 is one weeks groceries for us. Overall I felt the room was renovated a few years ago and not recent. The room was located at the Mountain View building at the main floor and not the basement or upper floor. The fire place is a false fireplace that blow out hot air. The bed frame is a metal box that creeks. The mattress overall wasn't great, felt worn. Blankets were iffy, but no bedbugs! If you are a light sleeper, be prepared to bring ear plugs. At night we heard the pipes either from the heating system or water banging. Also, noise from the upper floor unit can be heard when they're walking, door banging and pipes from toilet flushes and showers. read more

This was hands-down the most appalling customer service experience I have ever had with any hotel, or really any establishment where customer interaction is part of the job. I have seen other reviews mentioning this particular manager, yet there has been no response from upper management. The silence speaks volumes--it makes one thing clear: they either have zero standards for how guests are treated or they outright condone this behavior. Either way, it is beyond unacceptable. Do you really want to take the chance and find out for yourself? I needed to cancel my reservation due to unforeseen circumstances and called just four hours past their stated policy cutoff. Given that this was during a peak season, it's almost guaranteed they could have rebooked the room. Yet instead of offering even the slightest flexibility, I was met with rudeness beyond belief. The woman I spoke with was curt, dismissive, and refused to have a discussion. When I calmly tried to explain my situation, she hung up on me. I cannot overstate how shockingly unprofessional this was--what kind of business allows staff to treat customers this way? At that point, I accepted that they would keep my one-night deposit per their policy, so I called back and asked if we could simply modify the reservation to arrive on the second night instead. This would have allowed them to receive three nights of payment instead of just keeping the deposit, a completely logical and fair solution. They refused again. The sheer stubbornness and lack of basic hospitality sense here is mind-boggling. My family and I visit Stowe frequently. We've spent years making memories in the area. Since my in-laws sold their condo, we've been staying in hotels and were hoping to find one to return to regularly. This will absolutely not be that place. Between the unprofessional staff, complete disregard for customer service, and bafflingly rigid policies, this is without question the worst experience I have ever had with any hotel. And we didn't even stay there. And based on other reviews, this is not a one-time issue. If you value being treated with basic respect, book literally anywhere else. read more

I stayed one night at the Grey Fox and I have to thank Brittany (sp?) for being so amazingly awesome. It seems that I'm out of the habit of booking my hotel reservations because I accidentally picked Monday night instead of Tuesday night so when I showed up on Tuesday (literally as she was going home for the night), they did not have a booking for me. Brittany got it set and even though they probably should have charged me for the night before, they did not. So kudos to her and that's why this is a five star review. My upstairs room was very warm when I got there. I turned on the wall air conditioning unit but it really couldn't keep the place anywhere near cool or comfortable. It was a warm night's sleep. Bed was comfortable but the temperature was not. I had a lovely shower that night with a decent amount of hot water. Rinsed off the sweat and got as cool as I could. In the morning, not so much. I could barely get the water to come out warm. Uncomfortable. The room was spacious with a large queen bed and a fold out sofa with a small coffee service and a mini-fridge. Large flat panel television on the wall and a decent (though filtered) wifi network. Overall, I'd probably not choose the Grey Fox again for a summer stay. read more

Even though it seemed all the rooms were booked last weekend, the hotel was very quiet. The rooms have Beekman products like soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner (which I love). What I didn't like was the coffee pod left in the machine when I went to make a morning coffee. Kind of gross. But everything else was clean. There was a fridge, microwave, balcony, indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and a small fitness area. I also didn't like the app to download which is how you unlock the room door. It was pretty glitchy but the front desk gave us a key card to use instead. Overall, I'd stay here again. read more

This newly remodeled spot is charmingly lodgey, with a pool and hot tub. Our only problem was, the power went out around 1am and stayed off most of the night, and since it was 90 degrees out, we were sweltering. They denied this occurred, so maybe they didn't know or didn't hear it from other guests. There are few lights to get in and park and no sign by one of the entrances, and since Stowe is remote, it was very difficult to navigate in. But this may be a product of the recent renovation. At any rate, the rest of our stay was nice and the power thing was probably a fluke - we would go back. read more

We are a family of 4, which includes 2 teenage boys. Overall, the price was right, and we would visit this Inn again. Pros: 1. Super friendly and helpful staff, they did what was possible to make our staff comfortable. 2. Fairly clean, large and bright room with no carpeting! 3. Quiet surroundings 4. Outdoor pool plus an indoor pool with the hot tub 5. Life size chess game 6. Direct access to the recreation path 7. Central, and in walking distance, to great restaurants 8. No funny smells in our room (see cons list) 9. Phone app is used to gain entry to our room (this is a pro and a con) Cons: 1. VERY funky smell in the hallway (couldn't figure out what it was, maybe a cleaning product) 2. Dated common areas 3. What a wonderful centrally located place to stay when in Stowe! Can walk to downtown and many restaurants nearby. All the staff were Helpful and went out of their way to be sure we had a perfect experience! I recommend you stay in the separate building where we stayed in a lovely room with kitchen stocked with all needed to store, cook and serve meals. Our room also had a beautiful fireplace, large smart TV, deck and view to the greens and forest behind the buildings. You could walk over to the recreation path that takes you to town and all along the Little River! There is a "Stowe Quiet Path" you can pick up from the paved rec path. All so very lovely! I walked miles while hubby went fly-fishing. After all these good workouts, I enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor pools at the Grey Fox as well as the sauna and whirlpool spa!!! Overall very satisfied with my stay. When I first checked in I was in an older remodeled room in the main building. The first night a leak started in my bathroom that came from the room above me. After speaking with management, they were very accommodating and promptly upgraded me to a new room at no extra charge of course. The new building has very nice rooms. The beds are comfy and there kitchen has all the essentials to cook. Our cleaning service came everyday and did a very good job. The WiFi worked well and the tv was brand new with cable. I even tried out the swim/sauna and it was really nice. Brand new and clean. I was pleasantly surprised with my stay at Grey Fox and would definitely stay there again. Tip: if it snows you may get stuck in the lot, don't expect them to plow everyday. read more

Has the potential to be a great place to stay. The hot tub had a pretty big ring of scum at the water line. The AC had a desk/table in front of it which created a very cold corner but would shut the machine off before the room became comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was lame. The bed sheet was too small for the bed!! So much so that I'm still surprised that someone walked away from it saying "that's good to go". It kept falling off the mattress and bunching up underneath us. It's a cool spot with good amenities, biggest problem is the management and attention to detail. With the amount of other options in the area I probably wouldn't stay again. read more

Clean rooms, a bit on the small side, but that's okay. We had 4 people. A small gas fireplace and a small balcony were nice touches. Indoor pool and hot tub were very welcome. The bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable, and the room was so hot, that we had to keep the balcony door open. Even during the night. Heat stayed on even when we turned it off (which was just about the first thing we did.) TVs are "smart" but not hooked up properly to accept screen sharing. Having stayed in a lot of inexpensive hotels recently, I expected this one at $300+ a night to be more on top of it. read more

They are currently renovating this hotel and I recently stayed in one of the remodeled rooms. It is clear they are making an effort to modernize the rooms and our stay was comfortable. My only complaint is that the customer service at the front desk is lacking. I find most of the staff to be stand offish for no real reason. Had to cancel due to my COVID quarantine plan falling through. Policy is 7 days notice and 14 days for a holiday. I cancelled 11 days before the President Day weekend. This place is very cute! Clean and a great place to stay close to a bunch of cool skiing. My husband and I stayed here and everything about it was charming. Stayed recently, very disappointing, room had a great view but was a matchbox, so small 2 people could not walk by each other anywhere in the room, dirty, needed to get maid service to clean, especially the half eaten cashews left on the floor. Bathroom ceiling vent wasn't been dusted in years....no bureau, no alarm clock, only one nightstand, too crowded. Room was misrepresented and when speaking with management they stated "I can do nothing for you" also no offer of a discount or anything to get us back again. What we couldn't figure out was the closet, it had a deadbolt on the outer door????? Don't take room 42, it's not listed on any directional signage and evidently was a maids closet that was converted into a room with no thought at all........ read more

2 stars is all they deserve. I waited a few days to write this to see if it was just me or not. I got to the hotel was put in the lower part of the room, very dim and dreary. Got there on Friday night and had some work to do and there was no WiFi. I would not have stayed there had I known because I have to work and they offered WiFi. Went to the desk to speak to Rimi and was told that there was construction going on and there wasn't anything that she could do but she would have the manager call me on Saturday. she said there was Wifi just not in the lower levels where I was. I asked to upgrade and I would pay and I was told that I had such a great deal through booking.com that it would be hard for her to do that. After checking their website against Booking.com, It was a $6 difference. I would have paid anything for the WiFi so that I could finish my reports on time. Jump to Saturday and I had to spend hours at a breakfast place ($60 in tips) for the waitress and still no call from the manager. Went back and Rimi was there and she said oh well I am not her and don't know why she didn't call you but good thing the weekend was almost over. We are so laid back but to be spoken to and ignored like that just left a bad taste in our mouths. I would never go back there because for $260 plus per night I would at least like to have WiFi and if no WiFi just a little respect of a call to let me know. Its very clear they are not committed to helping customers. I worked with Hotels.com to receive a great extended long term bid rate for a possible 30 to 60 day stay at Grey Fox Resort (Please understand they said yes and committed to the rate 2 to 3 weeks prior to my arrive) I was in the process of transitioning from Iowa to Vermont. I was uncertain how quickly I would be able to quickly find and locate an apartment.. Per the directions of Hotel.com, I called and introduced myself to Nicolle (manager at the Grey Fox Inn and Resort) and told her that I will be arriving on the 22 of March to look at apartments and then I would be able to tell her whether it will be longer or a shorter stay. She stated ok. I arrived on the 20th of March and found an apartment, I called Nicole back and she stated that she could not honor rate. Hotel.com called them and they continued to say no to honoring the rate. It was a bait and switch in my opinion. Nicole provided a new rate which was much higher First Impressions, do not go to this place. Terrible First impressions! read more

The Grey Fox Inn & Resort saw its glory days a few decades ago. Furnishing and amenities are well past their prime. While it is certainly the least luxurious "Inn & Resort" that I have ever stayed in, it did serve its purpose for our family. The room was spacious and clean and we got a good night sleep. If you're solely looking for a place to rest your head, as you should in a place with a plethora of activities like Stowe, then the Grey Fox will fit the bill. The hot tub was so hot that it was painful to stick more than my big toe in, and the button to turn on the jets was nonfunctioning. The bars on the foos ball table were bent and the hockey puck on the air hockey table had been broken to the size of a poker chip. Of the three basketballs on the basketball court, two were deflated and dry rotted. A few minor investments in these areas would go a long way in appearances to guests. None the less, my dad and I had a blast playing foos ball, air hockey, and basketball. My biggest gripe would be that to get to your room, which are very oddly numbered, you have to lug you heavy suitcases up stairwells. This was difficult for my mother. Also, breakfast is not included. If you set your expectations relatively low, the Grey Fox will be a fine place to sleep, which, at the end of the day, is the function of a hotel. read more

Stayed over the July 4th holiday and it was everything we could have asked for. We could watch fireworks and the Stoweflake balloons from our balcony. The pool is COLD but it was clean. The room is gorgeous and big- really nicely decorated. Cherry furniture. New kitchen implements and a full kitchen. A dining room table that can seat 6-8. The restaurant is closed as well as the outdoor pool. Would have given it 5 stars if the pool had been open outdoors or if the indoor pool had been warmer. read more

Exceptional!!! Stay in Stowe frequently and we are so glad we decided to try the grey fox inn, rooms completely redone and beautiful! Spacious rooms with microwave, fridge and coffee maker, comfortable beds and soft bedding, large wall mounted tv. Right on bike trail. Indoor pool and jacuzzi with cool changing lights and fountain. Big mistake staying here. Our room was down in back in the corner next to the storage shed with outdoor furniture stacked up. No frig, no microwave, pillows are for a twin size bed, bedding lesser quality than Job Lot. The furnishings are as outdated as the guest services directory which still lists TWA as an airline service! We left the room around 11:30 AM and returned to the room at 9:00 PM to find that no one had cleaned the room. All the dirty towels, trash, dirty cups, no tissues and beds still not made. When I walked up to the front desk and advised the attendant, " her response was " oh, do you want clean towels"? My response was, " no, I want the room made up". When I called the desk at 9:45 I was told that there was no housekeeping available. The General Manager than called to accuse us of leaving a do not disturb sign on the door. I told him that he should come and read the sign before making inaccurate statements. The sign clearly requests that the room be serviced. I asked him if he was in the habit of leaving customers rooms unmade for full days. His response was that we had the sign facing "do not disturb". When asked why why they wouldn't knock or call if the room was not serviced throughout the day, he again advised me that it was our fault and that they do not attempt to contact the guest unless THREE days have passed. The General Manager never offered an apology. His conversation was defensive and he blamed us for their lack of service. When I reminded him that this was unacceptable he then went on to say he would deal with his staff. Again, no apology. He was going to " deal with" the staff. Customer service! None. Not a relaxing way to end a day in Vermont. Not a way to end a day anywhere. And all that professionalism and hospitality for $234.63 which includes a 8.5% SERVICE FEE. read more

Grey Fox Inn is a quaint little Inn near Stowe - the Mountain Road shuttle will take you right up to the Stowe base lodge. Rooms are average, nothing out of the ordinary, but the front desk service is great and the beds are comfortable. The only thing that would have made this Inn a 4-star establishment is if their coffee at the restaurant was better. Tastes like watery dirt. Overall, I would recommend staying here if you need a place to stay while skiing/snowboarding at Stowe and don't want to pay ridiculous Stowe Resort prices. read more

I stayed in a single room on the second floor. The room was cozy enough, but it needed some maintenance. All the doors in the place creak when they're opened. The ac unit is really old. When I turned it on, it didn't seem to be working, then I noticed how dirty it was. I took the filter out and cleaned it myself. It was really gross. After that, it worked fine. The bathroom seemed clean, but there was a washcloth drying on the shower rod. It was obviously missed. So that was kinda gross. I tried to eat breakfast at the restaurant, but it didn't happen. Our room was on the lower level "basement feel" with a double door view blocked by 1/2 stone wall, overgrown weeds, no windows, poor air conditioning system. The hotel was not fully booked so not sure why we were put in the basement. room overall was ok, bed comfortable, bathroom small. The only indication we had maid service was that I noticed the towels were refreshed. Why they didn't clean up or make the bed I will never know. We were instructed to use the door sign if we needed the service but there was no door sign and every time we went to the front desk to inquire there was no one there so the refresh of the towels was unexpected so I'll give them that. The best part was the coffee set up. My husband and I love our coffee in the morning! The coffee "bar" tray was set up next to the microwave but the coffee machine's cord was too short to plug into the floor outlet so I had to move it to the small end table where it barely fit. poor design but we made it work. We choose The Grey Inn for its availability late September, indoor pool and hot tub. Hot tub was nice but indoor pool was freezing. The restaurant had a "Opening soon" sign which had it been open my rating may have been higher. WiFi was horrible! Unlikely we will stay here again. read more

We have never even stayed at this hotel, but never will! Our issue is for a cancellation, we booked 4 rooms through Expedia in May 2015 for a stay in July 2015. Due to some changes, the 4 rooms were cancelled within the same day. First, the hotel has an agreement that says they are not charging before you get there... well, they charged, then credited but took themselves $25 per room cancellation. Their agreement is clear, no cancellation fees until 4 days before the visit... so, not only they violate the policy with Expedia but are making things complicated! Then they said that it was 72 hours after they have a penalty (no in their agreement), so the agent from Expedia said, even then, they cancelled the same day! They said, no it was the day after (which then still makes no sense as this is 24 hours not 72)... As I am writing this, Expedia is fighting with them! Thank you to Expedia for fighting the battle! Grey Fox, I am part of a Motorcycle group, often rent rooms (between 4 and 10) in Stowe and other places... you will NEVER be on my list! read more

I stayed at the Grey Fox Inn on a family ski trip & we all had a great time! The small inn was very warm, inviting & cozy--the ideal ski location. The setting & rooms were nice, exposed brick & in-room fireplace. All the staff were very welcoming, friendly & helpful. The restaurant was nothing to mention, though they did entertain my brother after he said "I'll have my usual" on our second night there (& he ordered something different from the night before!) I'd eat in the restaurant for breakfast but enjoy the better options Stowe has to offer for other meals. While it's not the most luxurious place in the area, the Grey Fox is a great value, and it was nice to stay at a smaller place with a true "Inn" feel. read more

Stayed here with a couple of friends for the weekend for a ski trip to Stowe Mountain. The hotel seemed nice and cozy for a little hotel in a small town. Like most people said it's a little out dated but in my opinion this place is great for the price and worth the savings. The staff was very friendly, and we stayed and had breakfast at the restaurant on sight, and the food was great and service was wonderful. The waitress even noticed that we had wet gloves and she even took our gloves and dried them in their drier as we ate breakfast, now that's good service. read more
