Our experience at Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa was extremely disappointing. When we arrived, our room was 82 degrees. We turned the thermostat down to 60°F with the fan on high and waited over two hours, but the temperature never improved. After reporting the issue, we were moved to another room, only to find it had a portable air conditioner that couldn't keep up with the size of the room. There was also a note on the thermostat stating that the central air conditioning was not working due to ongoing renovations. The most frustrating part is that we were never informed before our arrival that the air conditioning was unavailable because of renovations. This is something guests deserve to know in advance, especially during the summer. Beyond the air conditioning issues, the hotel is clearly showing its age. Many areas appear worn and in need of maintenance, with few signs that repairs or updates have been made. It no longer reflects the quality you would expect from a resort. Customer service throughout our stay was disappointing. While we were eventually moved to another room, there was little acknowledgment of the inconvenience or effort to make the situation right. Ultimately, our experience was so poor that we decided to leave the resort that same night and book a room at another property rather than continue our stay. That was an unexpected expense and inconvenience that could have been avoided with better communication and customer service. For the price of this resort, I expected much better transparency, accommodations, and guest service. Unfortunately, I can't recommend staying here. read more

"Manager" Kristina Hedger is a case study in leadership incompetence. We had no hot water or TV for 2 days, and our room wasn't cleaned over the 4 day stay (they supposedly clean every 3rd day). After informing the front desk of the items we needed help with, we tried to follow up with the manager 24 hrs later; unfortunately it was above Kristina's skill -set/competency level and she was unable to handle a situation requiring critical thinking. She's just functionally incompetent.- She failed the interaction with a customer- panicked ,was triggered and crashed out...hung up on me. It was actually comical if not for the fact that I was looking to her assistance . Thankfully the GM stepped in and handle as a professional. Started here for a couple nights in April to celebrate my birthday. The place was so run down I would absolutely not recommend. Two of the four lights in the room didn't work, one of two sinks in the bathroom didn't work. The pools (both) were closed/empty, the spa was closed, the sauna was broken and the steam room was closed. We asked for the lamps to be replaced or fixed for light--they never came. We wrote directly to the resort afterwards to express our disappointment and they never responded to that either. read more

Didn't have a say in this choice by my husband's employer's conference choice location. However, it has been abysmal. No spa (it's literally part of their name) no restaurant - the staff couldn't (or wouldn't) even provide wine glasses to us. We tried running a hot bath after a day of skiing, only to be mortified to discover the bath water was dark yellow! And after asking maintenance to come check it out, it was suggested that we run hot water for half an hour until it ran clear. Then we were told that housekeeping only comes once every 3 days, but that someone would be by after our 48 hours here - no one ever came by. We talked to THREE different people and no one was helpful - only blamed us for the crap we had to endure here. And Uber Eats does not exist here. We went to a few breweries today; Idletime had great beer & food - but this place!??! Do not be fooled, the "morning breakfast" is likely bulk purchased items from a grocery store - I even heard an 8 year old refer to the croissants as "cheap" and she was not wrong. It's all a gross exaggeration of anything remotely RESORT or SPA related. Spend your money elsewhere. Seriously. We would never pay full price for this place. I feel bad for those who did. This place was a disappointment, did not feel like a vacation. Feels like a nursing home, I don't mind the old antique furniture, this place was by the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed at, and I travel ALOT. I have pictures to prove, it's a ok place to sleep but they need to remodel and stop the false advertisement. They also need to reduce their prices if they want to continue business like this. It's REALLY disgusting, musty smell, mold on shower head, mold on walls, wall paper falling off, water damage to ceiling. You have to enter through back door (Stairs), with no suitcases caddy. We paid close to $450 for 1 night in October and were deeply disappointed. The room was tired, old and crowded with dated furniture and a very unappealing bathroom sink in the bedroom area. Not in the bathroom. And the mattress was pretty bad too. The worst part was the toilet was broken and rocked back and forth and couldn't be fixed that night. Then the thermostat came off in my hands and we couldn't get it back on the well to work properly. It was an outrageous price to pay for a super low quality room. They offered me a teeny tiny refund but refused any further compensation. When you pay that kind of money you should have a fully working room that's not awful. This place is a total dump I would not recommend anyone stay here. I don't understand how they consider this a resort it's the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. When I pulled up I thought it was abandoned the landscaping is so overgrown. It's not safe as a single female. The bathroom doesn't have privacy glass so anyone can look right in, the mirror conveniently is opposite the mirror so anyone can watch you from outside. I didn't even want to use the bathroom. There was no way to hang a towel over the window. It's not safe, I pushed a chair up against the door then pushed the desk up against the chair. The lock screws were nearly falling out, I screwed them in tighter with an ink pen lid. There is no chain lock Says to push a pin to lock but it doesn't even work! I paid $189 plus a $17 resort fee through pricelibe this is an absolute joke. read more

More like poopflake resort! We had a townhouse a month ago. Upon arrival we went upstairs to unload luggage and there was mouse droppings on the bed! YUCK! The townhouse was not clean at all. Very dusty and unkept. There were more droppings on the kitchen counter, bathrooms and surely on the carpet but I didn't inspect every corner of the unit. The back door to the unit didn't even lock! It was wide open. We propped up a chair for some security. Our friends visited the actual resort and stated there were some amenities not working and looked like they had been out of service for some time. As for the restaurant on-site, food was terrible. Wish I read the reviews after this property was recommended to us for our group. Lesson learned! There is nothing impressive about this property! There is No room service -we were not informed of this while booking for our group, nor when we arrived - even though it tells you to leave the towels you want replaced on the floor, which we did, but they remained there. The mattresses were so saggy they must be from when they originally opened in 1963! They do not replace towels, they do not replenish coffee/tea, their hairdryer did not work, there are several telephones in your room and in the hotel but none of them work -so when you need new towels, when you need coffee, when you need a working hairdryer - you need to walk down to the front desk each time to speak to someone who is simply 'present', but by no means pleasant or caring. They claim to do a 'thorough cleaning' of the rooms upon departure - do not believe this for a minute! There was a wad of gum on the headboard of one of the beds in the room they gave us when we checked in (see photo). Several of our guests were not pleased with the cleanliness of their rooms either, carpets were not vacuumed, joint tracings were still in the room (even though they claim there's not smoking, but it happened the entire time) The continental breakfast is pre-packaged muffins and prepackaged oatmeal which is pathetic for what they charge to stay there. Most of our folks ended up going out to breakfast or bringing their own because what they served was so sub-par. The cookies that they serve during the afternoon tea time are disgusting - they are the cheapest prepackaged cookies they could find from a cheap grocery store. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for charging more than $250 per night to stay at this place!!! We have paid Far Less at beautiful, well maintained properties with pleasant service, good food, daily room service, etc. I was embarrassed to have brought my people here. We are used to 4* and 5* properties - this came nowhere close to our expectations. We will Never return! I have no comparison to other places in the area, but I have to believe there are other hotels who do far better than this place. You never know what you're really going to get when you book a place you've never been to before. Pictures online always show a property in its best light. Speaking of which, we arrived at night and with all of the holiday lights still in place, it looked really charming. But much like that time you met someone at a bar and took them home, only to get a good look at them in the morning and think "wow, what have I done?, this place was not what it appeared to be at first glance. Dated and in disrepair is probably the best way to describe the stoweflake. It seemed to me that the staff for the most part really cared and went out of their way to make sure we were happy. I suspect ownership is to blame for this place being cobbled together with paper clips and rubber cement. The hallway in our wing was FREEZING the entire duration of our stay. On the positive I will say that our room was spacious and clean and amenities were more than I expected. A squash court, pool table, ping ping and board games. The gym was by far the most extensive I've ever seen in any hotel. The layout of building is very odd. It's as if it was built in 10 different phases and attached together haphazardly. We didn't try any of the treatments so I can't speak to that. The continental breakfast was uninspiring especially for the health conscious. The restaurant was closed and we were told it would re open in the summer, however other reviews would seem to suggest that there is no tenant in place and it will not be open any time in the future. I did like afternoon tea, it was a nice touch. When we were there there was a fire and we had to evacuate until given the all clear. Management tried to say the alarm was "dust" as a result of on going renovations, and while I did see workmen on site it was clearly more than just dust judging by the acrid smoke that filled the hallway and the presence of the Stowe fire department. I actually heard one employee telling another that there was a fire, and the recipient of the news "shushed" the deliverer. As if I didn't already know there was a fire l! Come on! The location is really ideal for mountain access and restaurants nearby, and the price was kind of right, I guess. If you're looking for anything more than bare bones you should look elsewhere. read more

I'm always suspicious when I see 4 & 5 star "reviews" from Yelpers with no photo & only 1 or 2 posts. This seems to fit the bill. Everything here is old & worn. I'm sure it was nice back in the 70s & 80s but a major update is much needed. Apparently the family owners have had it on the market for a few years & I wish them luck. Think "The Shining." Charlie B's Pub is shut down except for a light "Continental Breakfast." The coffee was ok. One young man at the front desk was VERY nice. The older woman didn't care one dot about my questions or requests. She defines "Vermont Icy Cold Winter." Rugs & furniture are threadbare, musty smell permeates everywhere. Despite initial concerns sparked by negative online reviews, our stay at Stoweflake Resort in Stowe, Vermont turned out to be quite pleasant. While the property could benefit from a much-needed refresh, likely not having seen updates in a decade or more, it still offered a comfortable experience. We opted for a luxury room, which provided ample space and boasted a cozy fireplace, adding to the ambiance. Although the decor may not rival the Ritz Carlton, the cleanliness and overall comfort of the room were satisfactory. While there's room for improvement in terms of modernization, we found our stay at Stoweflake to be perfectly adequate for a quick ski trip at Stowe. Just make sure you ask for a room ("luxury" if possible) in the newer wing. read more

Stay away! The place is not well maintained. We purchased a season pool pass for $848 based on a recommendation. The pool was both too crowded and/or full of bugs. We used the pass twice and left shortly after arriving each time. We politely requested a partial refund to which they refused. Are you that desperate for money that you feel the need to cheat? This is one of the absolute worst hotels I have ever been too and the day manager was incredibly rude and self serving. We had stayed here 23 years ago when we got engaged and we're excited to go back. However, to say this place has gone downhill is an understatement. It was incredibly old, smelly, dirty; the bath tub had a yellow ring around it, and the electrical outlets looked as if they could've started a fire if the wrong thing was plugged in. We tried to check out early because we honestly did not want to spend another night on a lumpy mattress with little air movement, but Ms. "Thing" at the counter would not hear of it. She refused to let us check out!! It was completely ridiculous. Not for this price. I'll start with this hotel isn't cheap. I picked a 4 star on purpose as a gift for my husband for a getaway . The other 4 star hotels seemed just as pricy but didn't offer the amenities as stoweflake did and that's why I picked it. Pros- spa is lovely. Staff is amazing. You we greeted with a smile and they answer any questions you have. The waterfall pool is by far my favorite. If you get a massage see Stephanie. I asked her to move to my state so she can become my regular therapist. Cons to the spa was my treatment room was basically a storage room. Gross. I couldn't open my eyes because of the giant water stain above me. Clearly it's outdated and needs tlc. The bistro that's advertised to get some lunch was never opened. Gift shop closed for 4 days. Seriously? When I arrived At the hotel for check in we were 3 hours early. The crotchety women at the desk was rude and frazzled and told me to leave my bags in the car because "basically , I'll just put your bags in a locked room soooooo". Check in is at 3 I was free to roam the resort and use the faculties however MY check in time was 4:30 due to being understaffed and behind. "Sorry". Tea and cookies was great. That's at 3 each day. I quite enjoyed that room. Peaceful and beautiful. My room was nice. Old and outdated but it's ok. Fireplace was a nice addition. Beautiful view and for the most part clean. The toilet cover was dusty. The tub had hairs in it. Other than that the room was comfortable. The hallways and common areas all need an upgrade but that didn't bother us. Things become outdated over time. Clearly they are either headed to an upgrade or close the facility. Big drawback was the outside pool was never opened. Advertised to be opened. Not once. Closed the entire time. It was not too cold. They are clearly understaffed. The activity room looks like my parents basement in the 80s. Pool table old as me. But it passed the time waiting four hours to check in. Asked the front desk for info on snowshoeing. She could have cared less to even wait on me. I hated that. I compared prices to other surrounding resorts that are 4 star and this hotel clearly maybe in the 80s was a 4 star but I would give this hotel maybe a 2.5 star. It has so much potential. Wish it delivered. The restaurant and staff were kind and welcoming. Coffee each day was delicious. Good food. Another takeaway to this experience was after two days I finally went to the desk and asked for housekeeping and why haven't they come to my room and she abruptly told me I need to give them 24 hours notice for housekeeping ? Hmmmm never was told this and I have Never heard of this. Ok please just bring me towels ! "How many please ". 4 please ? She looked at me , shook her head and said "ok". The location was incredible. Ok...... so this review is mainly based on the encounters that we had with people who are employees of Stoweflake. The place itself is under major renovations and I am positive that we will see wonderful results next summer (hence minus one star). Every single person who we encountered was insanely wonderful! Since I cannot remember the names of all of the employees, I will just say that the manager (who apparently relocated from Kentucky), the head grounds manager, the front desk employees, the bartenders, cleaning crew, and also the chef, were incredible. We had the most incredible chicken wrap for lunch on our last day and had such pleasant interactions with everyone that I have no doubt that this place will completely rebound as the new ownership completes its mission. We stayed at the mountainside condos, which were outstanding. A one bedroom rental served as our "house" and was very well equipped. Even though a cleaning is provided every four nights, they were accommodating and cleaned it earlier than that (my fault completely.... I moved all of the paperwork to the side of the tv prior to reading and didn't note that there is currently no daily room service). We absolutely plan on returning next year and visiting the pool bar and Grants when we do! read more

I've been to many conferences and many resorts across the USA and Stoweflake is in my top 5 - well above top-end resorts I've visited in the Catskills, Michigan, and San Diego. I stayed a few days at Stoweflake as part of a team that is planning an event for later in the year. I was immediately impressed by the grounds - lovely gardens with unique art/sculptures and water features. The resort is unassumingly large, a series of building connected with gardens and a meditation labyrinth in its center. The rest of the grounds holds lawn games, volleyball, racketball, tennis, and a horseshoe pit, as well as a par 3 executive golf course, and villas/townhomes. There is an extensive indoor gym, as well as a racketball/squash court and a yoga room. There is even a private women's only gym for those who wish to work out in quiet. This resort is family owned and run and it feels personal, not the cold, sterile, one-size-fits-all of corporate-run resorts. The food is exceptional -so much so that I had to order the simple greens salad with perfectly seasoned and cooked moist chicken breast two lunches in a row! Local blueberries, local herbs, local goat cheese. The spa is lovely, with mineral baths, a soothing massaging waterfall, and a large outdoor pool - all very clean and inviting. The women's sanctuary is a true spa experience with lockers, showers, and a resting area with lounge chairs. Plenty of towels and robes are available at all times, as is the lemon or cucumber water. The sauna's (dry and moist) were not open due to Covid restrictions, but they looked clean, bright, and welcoming. Unfortunately, I did not take part in any treatment due to my own time constraints, but the Spa management were friendly and I'm confident that my next visit will include a treatment. The Spa shop also had beautiful items. And finally the hotel staff - all of whom were friendly, kind, and informative. I am very very much looking forward to returning to the Stoweflake later this year. I recommend this resort not just for events, but for my own family trips. read more

I had a fantastic stay at the Stoweflake. This was my first time staying at a hotel since COVID and the Stoweflake exceed all my expectations. The hotel is super close to all the great restaurants and shops. They are also extremely close to the mountains. The rooms are spacious and clean and offer excellent accommodations. More importantly though is the staff. The staff at the Stoweflake really made my trip memorable. Just to name a few: Will at the front desk, Donnie at the gym and pool, and Dana the manager of Charlie B's. These guys went above and beyond with conversation and kindness. They gave me tips about local places to check out as well as other places such as Burlington. I see on Facebook that you do employee of the month. Each one of those guys deserves that award. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a few days and we thought it was nice and cozy. The other guests were very nice and so were the staff. The hotel is more of a old-fashioned hotel, in an endearing and cozy way! It's really cute. We used the Jacuzzi, which is outside, while it was snowing which was awesome. They have an indoor pool and a sauna, chess, Racquetball Court, and one of my favorite things was that they had free cookies and coffee in the ballroom! read more

Incredibly unfriendly, unaccommodating, and unreasonable staff and management at the Stoweflake Resort. One of the members in our party tested positive for covid prior to our arrival and Dan P from reservations told us verbatim "you either come in or lose all your money." As healthcare workers, we stated we would not come in and endanger the staff and other guests, to which he replied again "you either come in or lose all your money. Nothing I can do." They proceeded to send our full bill on the anticipated checkout day even though we never checked in. The lack of customer service and promotion of coming to their property with active covid are true indicators of just what type of establishment the Stoweflake Resort truly is. read more

Stoweflake welcomed The Village at The Green residents with open arms as renovations occurred across the street. We stayed three days and visited the Sports and Wellness Center three times. Twice were to utilize the pool and outdoor hot tub. The other was to use the game room in the basement. Super excited the pool was heated! it was clean and plenty of nice towel! The hot tub is outside and how cool to get caught outside in the snow! The 7 year old little girls loved it and my body did too! The game room- a little renovations needed here. 1 game was broken, only 3 games in total, a few TV's were set up but the game systems were not. So there was ping pong, pool table and some board games. Needs a fresh coat of paint and some air freshener! The locker rooms are beautiful! I bought a six month membership last winter, most of the lockers in the women's room were broken, the hot tub nets not working, the mineral pool was empty with caution tape around it, no restaurants were open and the place was dirty. There was hardly ever anyone around that worked there to talk to. It used to be a nice place and went there many times but it's gone downhill. When I contacted them about a possible refund since I only went a few times, they told me there was nothing they could do since this is the first they are hearing about it- even though based on other reviews, they clearly knew about these issues. read more

When we arrived it appeared abandoned, shrubs have not been taken care of for months. Inside was tired, water damage and garbage can in hallway to catch water. Restaurant hasn't been updated in 30 years, buffet was terrible. Room was 50 degrees when we arrived. Electric plugs are in baseboard- 50 years old or longer? Are they even safe? Overall, a very good experience for the price point of whatever treatment offered. However, part of the spa experience includes enjoying some of the amenities including the lounge areas with fireplace and furniture. I've visited over the course of 10 years and still, the furniture has remained, and at this point is pretty outdated and almost unkempt looking, sunken in, staining, etc. Otherwise, I've visited many spas and this is a favorite. read more

This place has very good customer service, all the staff was very nice especially the pool area staff. My rating is solely based on the cost and what there is to offer. Paying $500+ for a one night stay you would expect thing to be updated and many more amenities. Smart TVs newer decor, updated furnishing etc... but that's is far from what you will get. I got some real motel vibes from this place, it may be time to reinvest some of their profits into renovations. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless they dropped their price by half or did some serious renovations. read more

This is where I laid my head when on a visit to Stowe last weekend. Pulling in, a tad confusing as to where to check in, after driving for three plus hours I took a guess and got it right. Very warm welcome, apricated that. Was hungry and since check in was late (3pm) we had time to drop off the luggage and find a place to eat. Thanks to Yelp, found a great place (Doc Ponds, did a review so go find it; back to the room and the hotel) parking was in the back but allowed for unloading the car behind in a kitty corner. Since there are only two floors, makes unlading rather easy. First appearance was nice and clean and the bed looked super comfy. Bathroom was clean and quite huge. Toilet was in a separate part of the room with a door for privacy. Nice desk, but away in the corner made the room seem a tad smaller, but it worked. chair next to the bed was comfortable as well. Bed? this is where it gets hard, as in the mattress and the box not fully covering the bed. so it was exposed. not really comfortable. Hotel had a restaurant on site but was closed. Kind of upset, but....the room was nice and all in all, was a great resting place.... read more

I've been going to the Stoweflake for years...and this past visit was a bit shocking and sad about how it has fallen into disrepair. The driveway and parking lots have potholes everywhere and nothing has been updated in years. When we checked in, we were double charged for the room because of a computer system upgrade (which they corrected). We stayed for 3 nights and housekeeping never came. I felt that this service usually is included in the price. Upon checkout, they said that we needed to request this 24 hours in advance (but they never told us and there was no signage). They said this was because of COVID, they didn't want people to enter rooms unless requested to. Room was dated, and toilet kept running. No tea/cookies in the afternoon that I looked forward to (maybe this is a weekend - only thing?). The Spa there is excellent. Great treatments and service. Will definitely go back to the spa. Breakfast was included in our package and our waiter was amazing. He was so friendly and attentive. Hopefully, the new management can get things back on track! read more

We visited Stowe here years ago and it was lovely, however in early 2022 this hotel is in disrepair. Asside from the very dated aesthetics, the carpet was damaged and dirty everywhere we looked and the water in our room was brown! We checked in late around 10pm because of our long drive and the night watchman was a very interesting character to say the least with limited customer service skills, taking phone calls and leaving us waiting to check in. Not only that, but after driving five hours a patron was walking around in the lobby and outside the entrance had the audacity to ask us for a ride to the down town area. (Wtf?) The toilet clogged after barely any use, we called the front desk to get a plumber up around 8:30pm. No one came but after waiting for an hour and staying up specifically to wait for the plumber when we decided to abandon ship and use one of the general population restrooms in the lobby. When we opened the door we found a plunger had been left outside our door without any notice it was there. SPA: I will say the massage I got at the spa was superb and the facilities are good and clean. I would recommend the spa but don't stay here for the price. read more

I am stunned to see even one positive review of this place. The facility is in disrepair from top to bottom. Dated, dirty, and deteriorating outside, and inside was much of the same with the addition of musty smelling. Don't bother. The only guarantee is that you'll be disappointed. read more
