Terrible. Do yourself a favor and pay a little extra to get an assured seat to your destination. I got my tickets 3 days before and when i showed up to the station, they were late. Ok, after waiting, the bus showed up only for it to be waay OVERBOOKED. They told us to "get the next bus" which was around 6 hours later (really?). Also the bus driver acted like it was the most normal thing in the world (probably happens a lot) and didn't apologize at all. read more

Yesterday I took a 12:25 Champaign to Chicago. I have never in my years of traveling met a more rude driver! HORRIBLE! She needs to understand we are a multicultural city and NO, everyone does not understand English! I would give it zero stars if thats an option! We booked 4 tickets at 8:05 am on Mar.16th from Champaign to Chicago. We showed up at 7:50 am. There were around 200 people waiting! They overbooked the bus 400% at their capacity of 50 people per bus!!! We were stranded at the bus stop for 3 hours in the cold wind! No apology. No explanation. No specific schedule for the next bus! Please do yourself a favor by not using Greyhound! It was chaotic as people jostled each other to get on the bus. This reminds me of the movie Titanic where people jostle to get on lifeboats! read more

My experiences in taking Greyhound between Champaign and Chicago have been pretty positive so far. The biggest advantages for me are the ticket prices and efficiency: On their website (www.greyhound.com), they offer Champaign-to-Chicago online specials of $12 each way on weekdays (M-Th) and $17 each way on the weekends. Otherwise, the flat fare at the ticket counter is $20. The buses run about 4-5 times a day between Champaign and Chicago, and on every trip I've taken, the buses have left on time, made short stops, and arrived at the destination on time. Moreover, the bus drivers were professional and efficient. One note: the Greyhound bus terminal in Chicago isn't quite downtown--it's just southwest of the Loop and 3 blocks south of Union Station. But a Blue Line El station is just 1 block away from the terminal, so you can easily hop on the subway to go into the city. The downsides are the usual: you'll almost certainly have to share a set of seats, and the travel time is slightly longer (at around 3 hours). But overall, I've found Greyhound to be one of the most reliable and cost-effective ways to travel between C-U and Chicago. read more

As a agent who worked there I can say a lot of unfair things happen even as person traveling out. And haveing to deal with St Louis depo. It got took over by a independent agency a mother and daughter and who daughter had no customer service skills and could care less how the people are being treated when misfortunes happen with the routes . To run a business you have to know how to talk to any and every body some people can't. CHAMPAIGN in particular you should be able to we had students from the u of I and regular people not everybody cut of out for the job I was fired for reporting her daughter charging people 20$ on a ticket reissue to get on the earlier bus . Supposed to accommodate the person cause the bus was late. Haveing people who come to my desk when I'm not even working not only talk to me talk to everyone at the desk and at mtd she almost got bard from the terminal which is petty and then it was my boyfriend so I made a post off clock plz don't not come to the desk you will get bard from what security had said to me. After my boyfriend walking up to visit me at lunch time they walked him back off property just picked and being petty . I didn't make more then 9.75 with no benefits and sit there til buses come in and work whatever hours ....yeah I think not nobody gonna put themselves through all that in their right mind read more

They're no Peoria Charter, but still, $12 tickets (you have to buy online for super discounted fares) make me bump the 3.5 stars to 4. Between speed, quality, and cost, you can only ever have two of those qualities at once, but Greyhound kind of has a fair amount of all three. Cost is definitely a huge pro they have for them because tickets start at $12 (as you approach the travel date, it gets more expensive - around $30). If you plan ahead, this is definitely cheaper than Amtrak ($15 at it's cheapest) and PC/other companies). As for speed and quality, the buses themselves are quite comfortable - I like the leather seats a lot and little overhead lighting for reading. There is also a bathroom in the back, which is pretty clean. There are two outlets per row, so charging electronics is convenient. There is wifi on the bus too, but it does block inappropriate websites. Also, there are footrests under the seat in front of you. Things of note: the official baggage policy is you get 1 free checked bag under the bus and then 1-2 carry-ons (one on the overhead shelf and one in your lap). The drivers vary but the drivers I've had so far are very responsible, neat, and get everyone to the destination safely. They are also pretty good at addressing loud, unruly passengers and the trips I've had were quiet and peaceful. That being all said, they deserve five stars, but I'm taking one star off because the Chicago terminal is dirty and haphazard. It also smelled a lot like weed when I got off one night. While there are security guards, I feel like it's still a questionable place. Also, sometimes the buses are mildly late or the trip takes longer than expected. Greyhound is better than Amtrak, but PC is definitely always on time, hence the deduction. read more

NEVER BUYING WITH GREYHOUND AGAIN!! I had a trip scheduled for 3:25 pm and bus didn't get here until 8 pm. Also found out that there were 3 other buses were late to my same destination while I waited at the terminal. The workers at the front desk had 0 information to give and never even provided an apology. When I tried calling customer service I was put on hold for 20 minutes just to find out the bus tracker had lost signal so they couldn't provide information either. You're better of walking to your destination if you're planning on taking greyhound from champaign. read more

Greyhound is responsible for ruining an entire trip out of town. Our outbound bus was 6 hours late. The only compensation we received was a $7.50 meal ticket which me and my girlfriend had to wait over 20 minutes at customer service to receive. 9 out of 10 of the employees were either unhelpful or rude. On our return trip the bus driver was 2 hours late. We sat in 17 degree weather the entire time. Before the bus arrived we went to get food. As we walked up to the bus it began to pull off. I knocked on the door and the driver proceeded to wave at us and drive away leaving us stranded. Ended up cancelling our return tickets after that and got a train back to my home town. Far better experience than greyhound on every level. Would recommend a train over a bus any day. Will NEVER be using greyhound again and I recommend you do the same. read more

I am a 20 year old college student from Chicago , I frequently return home to Chicago from Champaign and every time I use the Greyhound I find myself stranded in one way or another. I booked a ticket for 1/15/2018 and I was supposed to arrive at 10:35pm. The bus broke down and we were delayed 6 hours. By the time I reached my destination no ubers ,lyfts , or city buses were in service and I had to walk in -2 degree weather for 30 minutes until I came across a safe bus service my University offers for late night walkers. The drivers often have attitudes and make you load your own bags (which is okay until 30+ careless people throw there luggage on the bus leaving no room for other bags and high probability for falling bags when the doors are opened. Greyhound picks and chooses when to check tickets so often times the buses reach capacity and you may be told to wait for the next bus which is never less than 3hrs away. Do not take greyhound if you will be boarding in shady neighborhoods , have an event to attend that takes place 8 hours after you assumed arrival at your destination (you will more than likely be late) , have small children , are traveling alone for you own safety. Better and safer alternatives would be Amtrak, Peoria Charter in my opinion and from my experience. read more

When I tried calling I was transferred to a voice mail box where I was invited to leave a message. Ha! Horrible experience. The bus smelled heavily of urine.... And to top that off, as I sat down, one of the fellow passengers who had boarded the bus with me stood up and yelled. Why? Because she saw roaches. Yes roaches. Many of them. Crawling the floor and seats. I just about lost it. Save yourselves the experience and pay the couple extra bucks for amtrak or suburban express. May 2, 2012 Chicago to Champaign 1130 am departure. Without any explanation before, during, or after, the driver pulled into the Main Line Station rest stop on I-57 and had an unscheduled 15-min stop. I wrote Greyhound's customer service dept which replied with a form letter indicating no interest in my complaint. Whether this was an isolated incident of a bad or uncaring driver or a regular problem I do not know. read more
