We stopped in here during our route 66 trip. I will admit that I was 100% drawn in by the texas-shaped waffles. Look, we're two broads from the east coast. As we pulled in, the parking lot was 90% massive trucks. As we walked through the doors, 90% cowboy hat-adorned patrons stared at us. It was intimating but I hoped they wouldn't bite. Our server was super friendly and put us at ease. Much to my disappointment, they only serve breakfast before 11 and this was around noon, so I wouldn't be able to try the texas waffle. I went with my back up, grilled cheese and couldn't resist the fried biscuit on the menu so added that to the tab. GF ordered the fried steak sandwich. This was obviously the lunch rush and that became very apparent. It took almost an hour for our food to come out and that really fucked us with the timing of our day. When the food did come, it was delicious. My grilled cheese was served on two thiccc slices of bread with melty american cheese. I would have preferred if the bread was toasted even a little bit. The sandwich was served with ridged chips. Regarding the fried steak sandwich, GF reports "it was heavy but tasty, not what I usually eat". She received tots on the side which were the crispiest tots I have ever had. I don't have words for the fried biscuit. It was out of this world. I can't do it justice by describing it. It was ORGASMIC. I'm glad I probably won't have the opportunity to eat this again because that shit is DANGEROUS. Food was very solid, service excellent, wait was a challenge. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. We were visiting family in town and went here for breakfast. This is what a diner should be! The friendliest service, good food and fair prices. I tried their fried biscuit and it was so unique and delicious, I wish I could have one now. Loved that the staff knew everyone who walked in and if they didn't, they were genuinely curious about where you were from and why you were visiting. It looks small on the outside but there is plenty of seating (which we heard fills up very quickly on the weekends). We will definitely be back (probably every morning) the next time we are visiting! read more

I visited a breakfast spot called The Grill while I was in town. I got there a bit too late for breakfast, so I ordered the Cowboy Burrito instead--and it was amazing. I also had the fried mushrooms, which were just as good. Most of the people there seemed like locals, but even as someone from out of town, I felt comfortable. So this place is worth the stop. It is in a small town and everyone knows everyone. I got a cup of coffee and have to say it was good. Coffee is smooth and hot! Yes, just like if I was at home. Service is great! The waitress knows all the usuals and when they pull into the parking lot gets their table ready for when they walk in. This is the place the come to after church. She checks on you, great customer service. The place is small but it is comfortable. There is red mud BBQ and Lawrys on the table. Had the omelette with everything. Has onions, peppers, ham, sausage, and tomato. Also you can choose toast or biscuits and gravy. It was good. You can get a side of salsa with your meal, not great salsa but it hits the spot. The entire place had the small country town feel. I remember places like this when I lived in North Dakota. Nice to hear people talking about farm stuff and I noticed nobody is on their phone. They are actually talking about. Wow! I would come here just to feel like life is normal. Even other customers told me to come back and visit the place again. Pictures of a kid on the wall. What a wonderful stop. Sunday morning, had a delicious, southern breakfast. The biscuits, gravy, and grits are amazing. Everyone there was so friendly and seemed to really enjoy working there. Our server was wonderful, so attentive to our service, didn't have to ask for anything, except an extra biscuit, talking about good!!!! Highly recommend stopping there if you're anywhere close by. The food in the pictures looks really good, but if your not from there I wouldn't stop here. we recently stopped here and we were being stared at by one couple super hard and the other two gentleman in there were making rude comments. The waitress rushed us even tho there was a total of 4 people other than me, my companion, and the waitress, and she ignored us when we called her, we told her we were just going to leave, very sketchy and they don't treat foreigners to the best. Again, if your a foreigner, not from there, or look like your American, I wouldn't stop here. read more

This was a surprise during a 4,000 mile trip wandering through nine states. After stopping at the Cross site on I-40 we checked Yelp for nearby restaurants and learned about the Grill just a very short drive away in a tiny agriculture down of 175 people. The Grill was the absolute best place we ate during a trip that included many good restaurants. The country cooking was fresh and delicious, the service was excellent and very friendly. While The Grill does not advertise as being pet friendly, they accommodated us and our pet by serving us at little porch table just outside their front door which we enjoyed even more than had we sat inside given that the day we stopped was sunny, calm, and not hot. My wife had fried chicken fingers with milk gravy and fries. My wife said the milk gravy was the best she had ever tasted. I had a "naughty burrito" that was stuffed with steak, cheese, quac, and was huge in size. I also ordered a side of taco chips and a very good con queso dip. All the food was made that day there by the restaurant owner. I have never before written a Yelp review: however, The Grill in Groom, Texas is a place to be shared with all who enjoy great home-style cooking and pleasant staff and location. read more

After visiting the Cross decided to go see what downtown Groom looked like and get some grub before continuing on. Found The Grill which I think is the only restaurant there feeding their 600 residents. Just look for where all the cars are parked and you'll find it. Lol. The friendlyist people you'll ever meet. Made us feel like we were family. Big Larry seems intimatating but he's a big teddy bear. Our waitress.... AWSOME!!!!! Now the food. Probably the best bacon egg and cheese sandwich I ever had. Fresh eggs, loads of bacon and melted cheese..... YUmmmm. Biscuit's and sausage was just OK. Nothing too great. The Fried Biscuits thou..... Save room for them. They are delish!!!!! Yesterday, my husband and I were very fortunate to stumble upon this restaurant. Chrissy was our waitress and she made us feel right at home. My husband had the cowboy burrito and I had the chicken and cheese quesadilla. Both meals were delicious and filling! We got their fried biscuits with cream cheese and jam filling to go and we had them for breakfast this morning. It was perfect with our coffee from the hotel to get us going! We learned a lot about the charming town of Groom, from our waitress, and it made us want to relocate from VA to TX! Those who are traveling on I-40 through Groom need to get off the highway and eat at The Grill! read more

Went here on 7/6, during a road trip. It was nice to find this place, at there didn't seem to be many option. FYI, GPS had it all wrong. Showed it close to a commercial strip... by the grocery store... But the place was further East, it felt like almost at the end of town. I think it is a North-West corner. Hubby had a chicken sandwich. Some sort of BLT with chicken, I think... it was OK, I only had a side salad. They didn't take American Express. I think they charge the soda by the glass. This is the type of place you come upon by chance unless you live in the area. We came in expecting it to be just "okay" and I'm happy to say that we were wrong. It was phenomenal! The service is excellent with a genuine at-home comforting feel, and the food was out of this world delicious! We had the chilly willy burger, and the mix of flavors was unexpected- but in a good way. The Grill should be a destination for anyone in the area! Was there on a Sunday around noon. Place was busy with only 1 waitress so service was slow. The fried biscuit was delicious. I had peanut butter with strawberry jam. I was disappointed about the queso dip it was Velveeta cheese instead of queso and you could tell what we ate was not homemade but I seen the rolls and they looked homemade. read more

Located just off of I-40 on the historic Route 66. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a roomful of old cowboys and smiling locals. Definitely has a small town feel with a delicious menu. Rolled through this area on our cross country roadtrip. We went to the Route 66 museum, then checked out The Cross. We worked up quite the apetite. The place is small and everthing is home cooked. The food was as great as the service! Our waitress, Jenna, was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us a few ideas for other attractions in the area or further along our way.
