Tasty fried chicken steak! The people working there were very friendly. Happy with their service. Ambiance was a lot of local regulars as expected.

Been through Groom TX many times, but never knew that. this little gem of a café was there. This place is awesome, has a great local ambience, the food was terrific, and the service was spectacular. Our server was Chrissy and she was just the greatest. this place is a must stop for travelers off the I 40.

So this place is worth the stop. It is in a small town and everyone knows everyone. I got a cup of coffee and have to say it was good. Coffee is smooth and hot! Yes, just like if I was at home. Service is great! The waitress knows all the usuals and when they pull into the parking lot gets their table ready for when they walk in. This is the place the come to after church. She checks on you, great customer service. The place is small but it is comfortable. There is red mud BBQ and Lawrys on the table. Had the omelette with everything. Has onions, peppers, ham, sausage, and tomato. Also you can choose toast or biscuits and gravy. It was good. You can get a side of salsa with your meal, not great salsa but it hits the spot. The entire place had the small country town feel. I remember places like this when I lived in North Dakota. Nice to hear people talking about farm stuff and I noticed nobody is on their phone. They are actually talking about. Wow! I would come here just to feel like life is normal. Even other customers told me to come back and visit the place again. Pictures of a kid on the wall. Owner maybe? Take a detour and stop at the Grill you will be glad you did.

After visiting the Cross decided to go see what downtown Groom looked like and get some grub before continuing on. Found The Grill which I think is the only restaurant there feeding their 600 residents. Just look for where all the cars are parked and you'll find it. Lol. The friendlyist people you'll ever meet. Made us feel like we were family. Big Larry seems intimatating but he's a big teddy bear. Our waitress.... AWSOME!!!!! Now the food. Probably the best bacon egg and cheese sandwich I ever had. Fresh eggs, loads of bacon and melted cheese..... YUmmmm. Biscuit's and sausage was just OK. Nothing too great. The Fried Biscuits thou..... Save room for them. They are delish!!!!! Would love to visit again.

You're not from 'round here, are ya'?…read more We wandered off I-40 to find some sustenance (not wanting to eat at a Dairy Queen or truck stop). We landed in downtown McLean at Lolly's. Upon entering, we were greeted by the cashier/busboy/waiter with, "Ya'll traveling?" We were the only non-locals in this joint. Fun spot to stop just for the local color. Lolly's is also a sort of grocery store, even though a lot of the shelves were bare. They also have a daily lunch buffet--"all you can eat" we were told. (The buffet was only about three feet long but they kept getting phones calls to see what was being served that day---chicken fried steak.) We split a bacon cheese burger (because it was a half pound affair) and some onion rings. Burger was well done but tasty. Everything was clean and service was friendly. Definitely not fancy, but cute and quaint. (One patron came in to buy cinnamon but the shelves were bare. No, worries. The cashier just went to the kitchen and came out with a small to-go cup with a bit of cinnamon in it for her. Gotta love small towns! )

What a trip! I expected tumbleweeds to come rolling down the street. If you ever find yourself in…read morethis little town with a population of about 125 or so, give this place a try. It's located on a street that looks completely deserted, and actually is for the most part. I mean, it looks like an old western movie set or something! It's just a stones throw from old Route 66 which is why I'm assuming most people would be in the neighborhood. It was our stop between The Route 66 Museum in Elk, OK and Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, TX. We were of course the only people in this little joint decorated with 50's nostalgia.... The cuisine is American comfort food as is most along the infamous highway. Here it's offered at insanely low prices. The kiddos were starving and ordered a pizza, 1/2 plain, 1/2 mushroom, a single pancake and some kind of corn nuggets the staff suggested with creamy dipping sauce. Kiddos were totally satisfied, loved the extra cheesy pizza and those fried corn things and had leftover pizza for that night. The guys that worked here were all super sweet. One was even originally from near my hometown! Another reason to stop here beside cheap nosh is a freezer filled with pops, microwaveable meals to go, as well as some toiletries, necessities, and groceries. It's definitely geared to those of us on the go, traveling The Mother Road. *Oh, and there's a gas station around the corner. We were told to fill up there as there's not another one for miles and miles! **A couple of neat things we stumbled upon while in the area are an old fashion abandoned gas station great for photo ops as well as a 10 Commandments sculpture on a corner just in front of the towns church which was pretty ironic being that it was Passover when we were here.
