Unfortunately not a fan. All their syrups are made in house and the baristas looked at me funny when I asked a question about their recommendations. Convenient location but unwelcoming service

Griffin Coffee and Bakery is such a beautiful addition to Carytown. From the moment you walk in, you can tell how much thought and care was poured into creating the space. The traditional Yemeni inspired seating makes the café feel warm, welcoming and a nice view of the carytown street. There's also a quieter area in the back that's perfect for getting work done or just relaxing for a while. The coffee and teas were honestly some of the best I've had. They were incredibly knowledgeable about where they source their beans, and getting to experience the tea and coffee tasting made the visit even more special. You can really tell they are passionate about quality and sharing the culture behind the drinks. On top of that, everyone working there was so kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Whether you're looking for a cozy hangout spot, a quiet place to work, or just amazing coffee and tea, Griffin Coffee and Bakery is absolutely worth visiting.

I've been a fan of their Petersburg location for quite some time so visiting this location was a must. You're greeted with comfy couches and a gorgeous Griffin sign. You walk up a few stairs to reach the ordering counter and additional seating areas. I went with a latte and baklava. My latte was just strong enough and the baklava was soft and sweet. I would certainly come here for a meet up or work station.

They took over the bakery spot and these spaces on this part of Cary St are kind of awkward because you have to go upstairs to their counter. My friend in DC told me about them opening in Richmond so I had to try it out. They are very friendly and everything looks in higher quality - the decor, the equipments, the accessories. It's a bit pricey but a cool place to hangout. I ordered a Cortado and the famed Dubai chocolate cup. The cup is not big but prob many many calories lol. It's so worth the price and the calories though. The warm chocolate and pistachio cream mixed in with fresh raspberries and some crunches having a party in your mouth! The cortado was perfect to cut the sweetness. You should try it!

I love the flavorful and affordable drinks at Griffin Coffee & Bakery. This hot and new coffee shop in the heart of Carytown is really lovely. There is plenty of seating and it's a deceptively huge space. At the front, there is a lot of natural lighting in majlis-inspired space. You go up some stairs to order your drinks/food and there bigger tables there and even more seating further in the back past the toilets. It's unique layout, very long. The two times I've gone, know that there is only one trash can back up the stairs past where you order. It is in Carytown, so there is a bunch of free street parking out front. They also have bike racks nearby and the 5 bus stops right in front of it. Since they are newer, they offer quite a few samples to try. I highly recommend coming here for drinks. Here is what I have tried: Pistachio latte: They can make you sweet coffees here. My first visit I tried a pistachio latte with oat milk and enjoyed it. Chai latte: This is very tasty. While it is sweet, the spices and flavor is still there which is awesome. Husk Coffee: Picture if coffee was tea. It's lighter caffeine, but filled with spice and flavor if you like that. Turkish Coffee: My intern tried this and was able to get it sweet. Not to be mistaken with sand coffee. Hazelnut croissant and plain croissant: If you like nutella, this is the hazelnut croissant for you. Their croissants here are a bit dense, but still pretty good. Baklava: They have a crunchy and soft version. Since I am part Arab, I tend to be really picky with my baklava and found these to be ok. Reese's Peanut Butter Cookie: I only had a small bite of this and really enjoyed it. If you're a peanut butter chocolate person this is the cookie for you. This is a really cozy coffee shop and I would highly recommend coming here for a coffee and to get some work done. Their wifi was strong and the space was quiet enough to get work done. It's a wonderful place to meet up with someone or have some time alone. The baristas are beyond kind and helpful. They're willing to answer any questions you may have about the menu.

Iced sweet matcha latte with oat milk

So glad I was searching Google for matcha this morning while in Carytown. I am PICKY and most that I've tried in Richmond just do not cut it. Griffin Coffee is doing it right. I got an iced matcha latte with oat milk (they have 2 types of matcha and I tried the "sweet"--not too sweet, very good). I will be back to try the regular matcha too! I also tried a sample of their husk coffee (I hate coffee) but it was AMAZING and I will be back to order it. The staff was so incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, and excited to serve me and tell me about their offerings! Heads up the golden tea contains dairy. Only improvement would be to offer some vegan baked goods!

Came here toward 7pm and I got an iced matcha ($7) and it was made in about 5 minutes. The drink was delicious! It had just the right amount of sweetness while still tasting the matcha. The interior was very clean and new! Staff were very friendly and surprisingly a lot of space inside to sit. Overall a very good cafe, will definitely come back earlier to try the coffee Drink(50%): 8.5 Staff/service(25%): 7.5 Value(25%): 6.5 Overall: 7.8/10

With reasonably priced drinks and a light and airy atmosphere, Griffin is a great new addition to the RVA coffee scene! I tried the Matcha with oat milk latte as well as a chai latte, and both were great and not too sweet. I enjoyed sitting on the traditional Turkish floor couches (super comfy) and the music choices were calm and sensory friendly. I typically like to come to local coffee shops after work, and I will definitely be returning once the wifi is up and running / to try the Turkish coffee.

    Lemonade and baklava

Tried the soft and crunchy baklava with the Griffin lemonade. Very tasty and the people serving were quite nice. Doors were open so we walked up the stairs to order. The lemonade was sour but that's good for me.

    Main Seating Area

Great service; amazing atmosphere; custom made couches which are very comfortable. Plus they are open later than other coffeeshops which is amazing for a night time coffee run. Assortment of different pastries and they also have Tea as well. They have a back area with secluded leather couches as well. Definitely the best coffee, tea, and atmosphere for a "coffee shop" in Carytown.

The staff, food and drinks are AWESOME! We have in here with 4 people and everything was PERFECT!!! The chocolate croissants are killer, great seating and ambiance inside. We will 100% be coming back and recommending Griffin coffee to everyone.

Free off street parking is plentiful. There is good signage. It's now a take out only establishment since Covid. Two table are available for outdoor seating. Most customers took their orders and walked away. I visited them on a Sunday afternoon just after St. John's let out. It's just one block away and the church Patrick Henry gave a speech. There were a lot of church goers enjoying the business. Proper has a menu in the window to guide customers on choices of savory, or sweet. I wanted one of each. The man at the window was great in providing recommendations. I ordered the steak and cheese as well as the Banoffee. The preparation is already done and the man with assistant moved quickly to complete my order. I enjoyed my treats at their outdoor table and also enjoyed conversation with locals. I started with the steak & cheese which was loaded with meat and cheese. DELICIOUS! Then onto the Banoffee which smelled heavenly of cocoa. Another home run! I love bananas and if you do too this will be enjoyable. So glad I found them open on my visit. There hours are very good, but I have missed them in the Summer before on vacation. Just go, no brainer.

I settled on the pistachio cream filled pecan pastry, the almond twist, and strawberry shortcake. The beverage menu was extensive: matcha, flavored teas, cocoa, espresso/coffee, and more. We were greeted by pleasant staff at checkout and our orders placed in a parchment type bag for take out. They also have seating inside. The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry. The almond twist was both flaky and crunchy with the sliced almonds on top, and the strawberry shortcake had layers of real strawberries, whipped topping and yellow cake that was moist. All were fresh. All in all, a great place to stop by for a morning pastry treat and tea/coffee while in the area,
