. Pretty disappointed to stumble into Roastology with an empty belly while visiting RVA only to find out they don't actually serve food. Yelp definitely indicates otherwise, and the photos of menus with vegan options had me so hyped to pop in for a fat drip coffee and avocado toast. Sadly, not the case. The coffee was pretty good, but the three pastry offerings left me leaving both upset and hungry. Nothing gluten-free either. Honestly, I felt a little catfished. Wanted to try this place since we heard they moved locations! The staff were super nice and quick with making our drinks! We ordered a dirty chai and vanilla bean latte. I think some of their syrups if not all are made in house! Dirty chai 7/10 - not bad but had to be 2 shots. Not very sweet compared to other chais. Vanilla bean latte. 6.5/10 - also not bad not very sweet which was okay! The espresso itself seemed acidic so it threw me off a bit. Stop by this coffee place for an afternoon pickme up.The barista were very friendly and gave recommendations on their popular drinks. I got an iced matcha latte with oat milk ($7). They freshly grounded the matcha and they gave you the option to add how sweet you wanted to make it. It was a fairly good drink just a bit small compared to other spots. Overrated and their coffee was not even good. The staff was more busy to talking to those sitting down than those who are waiting in line. I thought at first "oh nice! They are really close with their customers. That's awesome" but I waited in line for what felt like 20-30mins. Just to have made my own coffee. Would not have bothered meany other time because Nate's is that same way. But, if I am paying for my coffee why do I need to make it? I can do that at my house, for free. When I stopped in to try their flower garden latte with rose and lavender (which was well crafted and not overly sweet with a hint of spicy and floral) I met Pine who was taking orders and working the register and learned that she was going to teach a class about coffee origins, notes and qualities so I signed up. It was about an hour and half for $25 (with a 10% discount on beans and equipment afterward) and she taught us about the main producers of coffee, the qualities from each region, grind and pour tips as she demonstrated with three different varieties with a pour over technique. We also had pastries paired with each sampling. Pine was fantastic and the class was very interesting and helpful. Loved it! Would highly recommend if you have any interest in coffee beyond buying your morning cup of Joe. Pine made it very approachable and welcoming for all levels and answered every question offered. First morning in Richmond called for good coffee! We stopped at Roastology and really liked the vibe here. I got the Caramel Creamsicle iced latte with house-made caramel, vanilla, orange zest, and espresso. It was smooth and wonderful. I also tried the loaded avocado toast. It came on whole grain bread that was cut into 4 chunks. It was definitely loaded with avo and had arugula, red onion, olive oil, salt, & balsamic. So good. Great spot, great menu, great people, great atmosphere! This coffee shop is awesome. ***LOCATION*** Located on Cary st, but not quite Carytown (it's the other side of Boulevard), I guess you'd call it the Fan. There is free street parking nearby and spots to lock your bike too. ***EXPERIENCE*** I usually come here to grab a drink with friends or cowork. It's always very busy here because the drinks are good and the space is great. It has a very cozy and chic atmosphere. You might have some trouble finding a seat, but there is usually an open seat outside. There is typically a line to order, but it goes by pretty quickly. You can get most tea and coffee drinks here as well as pastries or meal options. I really enjoy their avocado toast. Their muffins are also really good. As for drinks, I think they have one of the best chai lattes and hot chocolates in Richmond. Their coffee drinks and matcha lattes are pretty good too. In warmer months, I adore their lavender lemonade. I highly recommend trying it. ***PRICE*** Things range from $4-15, depending on what you're ordering. I'd say it's typical Richmond coffee shop prices. ***BATHROOM*** They have two single all gender stalls. In the past, making sure they were locked was a bit strange, but they've improved the locks since then. The bathrooms are clean and fit the vibe of their shop. ***CONCLUSION*** Richmonders love Roastology. They have great drinks and a cozy environment. It gets busy for a reason. Super cute location in the fan. Be sure to know which lanes are one ways and which directions its going haha. I came here for the Autism society support group and we ended up sitting outdoors because of the number of moms that attended. I got to order my coffee (large latte with a plain flaky biscuit). Both came out at a reasonable time and were nice and hot on this cool winter day. It's like every coffee / cafe shop that you can imagine going to. Be aware of the hour because it is right in the outside of campus and the parking can be difficult at times (especially for this not use to it.) Very cute and wouldn't mind coming back here again when I'm in the city. read more

Overhyped. Maybe I didn't order the right stuff, especially for coffee, but I had heard soo much about this place and honestly was left disappointed. On a busy Saturday morning my friend and I met at Roastology for breakfast - seating was super limited because of how packed it was but we grabbed an awkward sofa seat and then moved to a two-top when it became available - this was totally fine and not at all a problem. However, I ordered a small caramel oat latte and breakfast sandwich, and was SHOCKED to find the total to be $20!? The caramel latte was fine, nothing special, and literally cost me over $5 - I could have gotten the same drink at Starbucks. What really disappointed me was the breakfast sandwich: it was the size of my palm, not even my hand or part of my wrist, just my literal palm - it was super small. The sandwich usually comes with egg but I asked if they could replace the egg with something (like the veggie sausage or even avocado) and they said no, they could only remove it and add anything else for an extra charge. I did appreciate they had vegan & gluten-free options, but the price was way way too high for the food served. I left still pretty hungry and out $20 (could have gotten a huge lunch bowl with extras somewhere else instead). They also served the sandwich with orange slices (not even a whole orange...like half an orange pre-cut into slices). Overall not super impressed with Roastology and probably won't return unless there's a seasonal coffee or drink that really catches my eye! read more

It can be busy but the customers usually keep the noise down to a comfortable level so chatting and reading are possible. Their coffee is very strong and flavorful and I also really enjoy both their hot and iced chai lattes. Alterntive milks such as oat and almond are available, and there are vegan-friendly items marked on the menu. They also have a variety of pastries, sandwiches, and even a small merchandise section with t-shirts, mugs, and coffee to brew at home. Roastology adds joy to the mundane with their seasonal flavors. My partner recently moved near Roastology and we have finally been able to try them (multiple times). If you enjoy rotating speciality coffee/tea drinks, you should definitely stop by here. This summer they have a strawberry moon drink and a matcha colada, which have been a hit. Matcha colada tastes like what it sounds like, matcha and a pina colada. Strawberry moon is a coffee drink with a strawberry mixture/puree added to it. Richmond breakfast on Saturdays has always been very popular. Roastology is no different. Busy but moving. We got a SEC and BEC biscuit. To me, the biscuit was a bit over toasted but it wasn't burnt. The sandwich was extremely tasty. Bacon is thick, fatty and sweet and sausage is the traditional breakfast sausage flavor that I love. It all tasted fresh and temperature of food was perfect. You also receive oranges as a palate cleanse I guess. It was very welcomed. I think I've had their drinks before and I really enjoyed it. I'd say value you receive combined with price is good. Great coffee and very nice people. I'm just a little confused about the transition that Roastology made from the Fan. The old location was constantly bumping. A wonderful place to work with a really neat aesthetic. I have to imagine it was a total cash cow. Then they left and were replaced by a low energy design company, waited almost a year, and moved to a smaller location in a neighborhood full of coffee shops. The old energy is totally lacking. Our visit to Roastology was such a treat! I was really excited to try their coffee, and ended up getting a seasonal latte - the Norwegian Holiday, which had orange sugar, marzipan, cardamom, espresso, and choice of milk. I loved that oat milk didn't cost extra. The flavors in the latte were spectacular and I still dream of it sometimes. We also shared a couple of pastries - the Morning Bun (pistachio, brown sugar, orange zest, blueberry glaze) and the Sweet Potato Cranberry Scone. The scone had more of a muffin-like texture than I had been hoping for, but that was most likely because of the sweet potato in it. Both pastries were yummy! I was visiting Richmond to catch up with friends and as coffee enthusiasts, we had to go checkout all the good coffee shops in the area. I got the cold brew (brewed with Brazil Cerrado beans - tasting notes: chocolate & almond) and it hit every coffee taste buds in the best way possible. I really love medium/dark roasts and my favorite combination of tasting notes is usually chocolate and nuts and this was amazing! The barista was also really friendly and answered many of my coffee-snobbish questions and I ended up buying a 12oz. bag of Brazil Cerrado for only $13. It's definitely one of my favorite beans and I've been enjoying the delicious coffee as a cold brew now that I'm not in the area. Great cold brew and will definitely try other coffee selections when I'm back in the area. read more

Just east of Carytown on West Cary Street is a coffee shop in an old warehouse. Painted black, the building is trendy. My house went during the pandemic and it's entirely outdoor. Keeping a safe distance, you order from a protected window. Within minutes your drink will appear at a different pick-up window. There are a few tables safely distant from each other outside with heaters. I ordered a latte and it was one of the best I had in Richmond. It was well brewed and creamy and needed very little sugar to appease my sweet tooth. My housemate enjoyed a solid cortado. If you're into good coffee, go to Roastology! read more

Cute coffee shop with all the right aesthetics and vibes and yummy drinks! I tried their Lavender lemonade. It was a little too sweet for me but the lavender flavors were quite strong but balanced out by the acidity of lemonade. I appreciated how they have a good selection of both caffeinated and non caffeinated drinks. I also got the Morning bun (only available on Saturdays). It was a crispy croissant and cinnamon bun cross over with pecans and sugar glaze. It was crunchy and pretty yummy! I liked the overall coffee shop vibes: brick walls, green plants, and coffee bean coffee tables. Its a pretty big space inside with some tables outside but it can get busy at times and occasionally too loud for studying. I still really enjoyed my time there. It was very busy on a Sunday morning, but the service was quick. The young lady who took our order was very friendly and helpful. She eagerly gave us her opinion but wasn't pushy. The decor inside was impressive. The lounge area had comfy leather furniture, tables and a bar to sit at. The lighting was great. There were benches and tables outside as well. Plants were everywhere. I really liked that part. Another plus for this shop is that it sits at the west end of Cary Street. Apparently, Cary Street is part of a shopping district in Richmond called Carytown. I think I explained that correctly. Anyways, we walked a portion of the street and we all seemed to find things we were interested in and enjoyed. It's definitely an area I would like to return to so I could explore more. read more

I gotta say one of the best cappuccinos in Richmond. I knew they were it when I believe the owner who was manning the cash register asked me if I wanted it dry. Also they've recently changed their cappuccinos to be one size only and are helping educate that "large" cappuccinos are basically lattes. In love. In addition to their caps I also really enjoy how experimental they get with their seasonal drinks. Currently the Honey Pot is money for me. Tastes like Cinnamon Toast Crunch in a latte if that makes sense. Lastly, their breakfast sandwiches are a great deal. As to why this isn't five stars: while I love their flavors (and caps) i think sometimes the flavor over powers the coffee. Took 20 minutes to get a chai. Given they are probably dealing with labor shortages due to COVID, and it was just about 9AM, but that is still unacceptably long to get a drink. When I finally got my drink it was luke warm so I asked that they make it hot (after paying $4.25 for a drink you want to be able to enjoy it). The woman looked at me but didn't say anything, so I was left hanging, wondering what she was going to do. Turns out she was remaking it, but it would have been nice if she acknowledged me or let me know that was what she was doing. When I took a sip of the second drink it was so scolding hot it burned the roof of my mouth (ti point where skin peeled off later). She either doesn't know the correct temperature, doesn't own a thermometer, doesn't care, or purposely made it too hot. Additionally, once the foam went down on the drink it was at most 2/3rds full. Which means I now paid $4.75 (with tip) for 8 ounces. 20 minutes later now I can take a sip of the drink and its mediocre. Tastes watery and not very flavorful. read more

Coffee shop enthusiast here from Norfolk. My friend and I drove straight to Roastology to get caffeinated before our day exploring the city. I was drawn in by some of the unique drinks (and house-made syrups) I saw on the menu, so I opted to try the hummingbird latte. The banana oat milk threw me for a loop, as the banana flavor was overpowering. Pecan and pineapple seemed to be an afterthought. However, I will say the drink was still delicious and made with quality espresso. My friend got the avocado toast and shared it with me. It was very disappointing. The avocado had brown spots all throughout, and since it wasn't smashed onto the toast, all of the ingredients seemed to be thrown on barely-toasted bread. If I lived here, I would be stoked about their creative seasonal drinks. I'd just skip the avocado toast. read more
