The surgeons, doctors, and most of the nurses were top-notch. Nurses Naomi in the CTICU and Dai and Karla on SP 5-3 deserve a special shout-out for professional, compassionate and competent care. The real problem with YNHH is that it's a 45-hours-per-week hospital. It's practically a nursing home, except Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. Even then, it can take forever for procedures to be scheduled and to take place. Many departments close up shop for the weekend, and the ONLY goal for the remaining staff seems to be handing everyone, still alive, back to the active practitioners on Monday morning. In preparation for a discharge on Friday morning, a bedside attempt was made to place a PICC-line. When that failed, placement in radiology was needed, but they were unable to schedule that until the following Tuesday. FOUR extra days in the hospital, because of the weekend, and because of not enough personnel/resources to get him into IR in a timely fashion. A frustrating, and expensive delay! Enduring 4 needless inpatient days, with the noise, discomfort, unappetizing/ cold food, and increased risk of infection was unacceptable. There are reminders posted everywhere to SHHH (Silent Hospitals Help Healing), but the loudness in the hallways was intolerable. There is beeping from cardiac monitors 24/7. The CNAs, in particular, think nothing of sitting around the hallways, ignoring call bells, and loudly calling to or chatting with each other, while student nurses do their jobs for them. If the unit even has a manager, he or she was entirely invisible, and the CNAs clearly have no fear of being seen lounging or complaining. Someone's idea of management is obviously "let's put up signs," rather than actually monitoring what's happening on the unit.

They had, however, done an ultrasound to determine this. Two weeks later I called to see where my refund was. I was told it could take 45 days for insurance - given that they did do the ultrasound portion, I did not mention that had the original doctor made the same determination from the original ultrasound, I wouldn't have been there. 45 days later, I call. Yup, I do have a credit balance that would go back to my credit card. A week later, I still don't have it. They had to have my money up front - now they have had my money for 2.5 months. Not acceptable.

The…read moreconclusion of that event was that I needed surgery to repair a ventral hernia arising from scar tissue from numerous prior abdominal surgeries. While the level of urgency did not require emergency surgery the situation was potentially life threatening so surgery, much more extensive than first anticipated, was scheduled for November at Yale's St Raphael Center. Dr Duffy was the lead surgeon. I cannot speak high enough about the outstanding treatment I received from Dr Duffy and his team. They were professional, gracious with their time and fully discussed all aspects of the surgery and my recovery. Additionally, the care team at the St Raphael Center were equally outstanding and professional. I spent 4 days there post-op and it could not have been handled any better. Consequently, I would recommend Dr Duffy, his team and the staff of the St Raphael Center without question.

After being involved in a pedestrian motor vehicle accident, I was left with a serious injury to my left leg, and the road to recovery felt overwhelming. From day one, the nurses and doctors at Stamford Hospital treated me with not only professionalism, but genuine compassion and care. They constantly checked in on me, made sure I was comfortable, and always took the time to explain everything so I felt confident and supported through the entire process. What really stood out was how much they truly cared--not just about my physical recovery, but about me as a person. That kind of support makes all the difference when you're going through something so difficult. Thanks to their dedication, and the continued care I received during rehab at VanMunching Rehab Center, I'm now in a much better place and continuing to improve every day. I'm beyond grateful for everyone who played a part in my recovery. Thank you for helping me get my life back.

I arrived at the emegency room at 7:45pm and was admitted by one nice nurse who looked like she had had a rough day. No smiles, no small talk just check in and get vitals. Then I was shuffled into a room where two people went over my information. Then I was sent to waiting room, then sometime in the 8 o'clock hour I was called in given an IV for dehydration. Was put into a hallway where my husband and I sat until I got called to go for catscan which was done by a nice girl Danielle. The hallways were filled with beds and chairs filled with patients not a seat to be had. The catscan took about two minutes it was easy and the staff was kind there. Then I was told to go back to the IV set up this was all about 10pm. A little nurse came into the hallway yelling about The chairs we were sitting in to everyone. She then sent my husband into the main waiting room and me to a holding room. Where other patients had their spouses or loved ones. Some were even eating pizza and snacks as I was waiting to see results of the test I just took.Another Patient (Blind man) Started yelling and Staff ignored him until he got so upset he wanted to get attention. My husband came back into the room after he saw that other people were walkinginto the room. I texted him I was getting anxious because of the situation. One Patients mother asked when her daughter was going to be seen and the nurse was curt and said a 5 hour wait. it was now 11:45 and my husband asked how many people in front of me and while I was higher on the list it was still going to be a 3-5 hour wait. I was like wow, I can't do this I want to go home. The person who told us that the wait was going to be that long was like oh well, didn't go to any doctor and ask what's the deal she just removed my IV and said go. So I did. No discharge papers or any information ... my husband and I are in the parking lot and someone comes running out after me to see I have no needles in my arms. INSANITY! Who is running the ER? Thursday morning I call the hospital wanting my results I get sent from one station to the next and then I ended up at the discharge nurse where I wasn't even discharged on Thursday Am. So got a voicemail to leave a message.@9am Fast forward 10am I was brought back to ER because my husband insisted they had my test results and that is where I should go. I walk in and had to register and vital check and repeat procedure. Mary the nurse was there and she was the only true professional I had dealt with so far in my experience. I was then told my problem given an IV and some pain medication. Mary took the time to talk to me got a doctor to speak to me and it went like it should of the night before. The women who took out my IV the night before was still there on her shift and came over to metaled to me as if I was a child saying it was not her fault for sending me home the night before. She wasn't very truthful, I am a 62 year old woman who was dressed okay and wasn't bleeding. So send me home, I didn't know if I had a blocked intestine no results and no offer to get them. It was a different experience both days. No clear Protocol other than check in procedures. There has to be a more humane way to deal with people who are hurting and in pain. Bridgeport hospital has a few superstars but the people standing around talking about only having 6 patients all shift and how cute their dog is, and letting people leave when they could have done the right thing and just ask the doctor on duty for results. IT LEADS ME TO BELIVE YOU KEEP PATIENTS LONGER FOR MONITERY GAIN. Not for the health and well being of the human you are caring for, very sad and unacceptable.

As the wife of a patient and someone who has worked in the medical field for 30 years, I am deeply…read moredisappointed and disturbed by what I witnessed during our recent visit to the Emergency Department at St. Vincent's Hospital. My husband was severely ill, actively vomiting, dehydrated, losing weight rapidly, and clearly in distress. We spent over 8 hours in the waiting room and a total of 13 hours in the ED with very little communication, compassion, or meaningful resolution. What was most upsetting was not just the wait time, but the lack of empathy and attentiveness from staff throughout the experience. At one point, I overheard a nurse openly and loudly sharing negative opinions about patients within earshot of others. It was incredibly unprofessional and disheartening, especially in an environment where people are scared, vulnerable, and seeking help. What stood out the most was that several people in the waiting room showed more concern for my husband's condition than many of the medical professionals caring for him. Complete strangers checked on him, offered kind words, and showed more humanity than what we experienced from parts of the staff. The lack of communication among staff, the apparent neglect, and the absence of urgency for someone clearly struggling was alarming. I understand emergency departments are busy and healthcare workers are under pressure, but basic compassion, communication, and dignity should never be optional in patient care. I rarely leave reviews, but after spending decades in healthcare myself, I felt compelled to speak up. Patients deserve to feel heard, cared for, and treated like human beings, especially during medical emergencies.

Kyle (Pre-Op I think) introduced himself and kept me smiling and laughing while explaining what was going to happen in what order, and MOST importantly nailing my IV on the first try. Apparently I often have challenging veins and it took three tries for bloodwork a few days earlier so boy did I appreciate him. I feel there were two other wonderful ladies who were involved but I can't recall titles or names . My post anesthesia care unit team were Mat/Rosa/and Amelia. Dr. Bowling was my anesthesiologist - who explained exactly what to expect, in what order it would happen and everyone I interacted with made sure I and hubby understood everything and didn't have any questions. I can't recall who exactly did the nerve blocks name, but I had never had one and she and Kyle told me about it. Dr. Ramji is always professional, friendly and informative taking all the time needed to insure i understand all procedures and yesterday was no different. He met with my husband after surgery to let him know how i was. I wish all Drs were this way. On a scale of 1-10, he and my team yesterday are a 10+.
