The team got its…read morestart in 2006 so they are a pretty new addition to the sport life of Nashville, TN, and it is one of those things that makes Nashville cool. We now have a Rugby team. They are slated to go to Dublin, Ireland in June of 2008 to participate in the Bingham Cup. They are a predominately gay rugby ream, and they are a member of the International Gay Rugby Association. It will be interesting to watch this team as they begin competing more and more, this summer should bring some good matches, so check their calendar.

They've got a home pitch now at Foster Ave. They just went to Dublin for the Bingham Cup and won the Bingham Plate Division. That's quite a large accomplishment, so congratulate them if you see any of the players. Yes, it's a predominantly gay team. Everyone, regardless of age, skill level, or orientation is welcome to come play. They are always looking for new players and will teach you everything you need to know. If you've ever been curious about playing, give it a try. They Grizzlies only had one home game this spring. Hopefully the fall will bring more chances to see them play. Go Griz!

There are a couple of skills to learn if you're not already familiar with the sport, but most people learn the drop punt and handball quickly with a little patience. The Nashville Kangaroos have a national reputation in the United States Australian Football League as a team that plays "hard but clean." Australian football is played without pads or helmets, but there are several basic rules for player safety. The Nashville Kangaroos take pride in playing by these rules - for example, avoiding tackles above the shoulders. Want to watch? Ask, and someone will explain the game. There might even be live commentary. Want to play? Everyone is welcome to try, and one of the players or coaches will take the time to teach you some basic skills. The Nashville Kangaroos are a Nashville based Aussie Rules Football team. The game is actually…read morecalled Footy. This is really something cool to have this team here in Nashville. Their home fields are at Elmington Park at 3500 West End Ave. You can see their games here during the season at Elmington Park when they host out of town teams for competition. The game Footy is some kind of hybrid between American Football, Soccer, and Rugby. The way the do the scoring is related to soccer, and football with a certain number of points assigned based on whether the ball is kicked over a goal post or whether it is carried across the line. I don't completely understand the rules yet, but it is a lot of fun to watch. The game is very fast paced, and I really like the way the do the scoring for the game. Each goal has a score keeper and the score keeper has two flags. Based on the score the flag bearer does some choreographed moves to indicate the score. He wears a white coat and hat and waves the flags in a very formal way. It is enough fun for me just to go and watch the flags wave. Also, the men that seem to gravitate to this sport are quiet buff. So if nothing else you can get the girlfriends together to watch some fit men run around. They aren't wearing any heavy padding to obscure your view. Watching Footy is a nice way to spend a summer afternoon, you can get some sunshine and culture all in one fell swoop.

I ve read of people feeding the ducks, kayaking, hiking, camp fires. It sounds amazing. I am reviewing it for what it is now, not what it used to be. Now, the Wheel House is an Airbnb. The mini golf is open and free for the guests. The grounds are still able to be explored, but not meant to be functional. My daughter and I spent two nights here. The Wheel House is clean, nice and updated. It has a bedroom upstairs with the bath. The downstairs is a kitchen, couch/sleeper. There is a TV both upstairs and down. There is no Wifi (this is clear in their listing), but the cell reception for me was strong. The hosts provided us with some complementary Gatorade, water and soda choices. There was also coffee available and a filtered water jug in the fridge. We arrived late, didn't have a chance to get to a store before arriving - those complementary drinks were very much appreciated! We had a great time here. We played mini golf, explored the old amusement park, went fishing (catch and release rules apply) - she caught 8 and I caught 5. It was everything we needed. And it's only 15 minutes to downtown Cookeville! The accommodations are comfortable. The brochures on what to do around Cookeville was also helpful. I enjoyed the stay here very much!

I can only speak to their pickleball courts, but we've had a great time…read moreusing this facility to dink around on the weekends - especially since there aren't many actual pickleball courts around Nashville. You can sometimes walk in and grab a court ... but we've found it's much smoother to call ahead and make a reservation in advance. If you're not a member, you can reserve courts three days in advance for around $8 an hour. You pay per court, not per person, which is a great deal if you're playing 2 on 2. Everyone we've spoken to at the front desk has been friendly and helpful! The Sportsplex also offers pickleball clinics and open play opportunities. We haven't tried either of these - but they seem to be well-organized! Like some other reviewers mention, the parking can be a bit tricky if there's some sort of tournament going on. If you're worried about the facilities being busy, I recommend calling ahead to see what they have planned for the day. you'd like to play.

I hadn't been to a roller derby match before, but they provide a pamphlet that explains the rules and objects of the match. I was up to speed and following along in no time! And I had a great time! It was great to watch women playing a sport that showcases their strength and fight. And to see little girls with their parents watching a women's sport was really inspiring. It's quite inexpensive, and there are beers and junk food you expect at sporting events (pretzels and nacho cheese and chips and hot dogs)! A great time overall. I know I'll be back for a match next season!

What can you say about Rollergirls? Its awesome fun! I'm not much of a sports person, but somehow…read morethe team spirit of Rollergirls really sucks you in. Now that its at the Municipal Auditorium its even more awesome. Gone are the painful bleachers, replaced with nice comfortable seats. Concession stands that are easy to get to, and a nice big arena for the girls to do their stuff! Its not without its downsides though.. Paying to park is a bummer, since its downtown. Also, having to pay Ticketmaster almost doubles the prices for a game. The solution to the ticket price is to buy at the box office or from one of the vendors (like Ben and Jerry's) that sell tickets before the game. When the games were at the fairgrounds, sell outs were possible. At Municipal I'm not sure how likely it is. Keep in mind though, it IS quite popular and there is usually a pretty decent turnout. The volume level is quite high, equal to a rock concert in my opinion so if you have sensitive ears, earplugs are recommended. Highly recommended!

It's always fun to get a drink and watch the Indoor players from the glass walled indoor restaurant upstairs that overlooks all the indoor courts from the second floor! One of the USTA pros who works here, Chris Shearburn and I played on the same tennis team at UAH. Go see Chris, he is good people and a talented athlete! The dressing rooms are nice. I can't speak to the gym because I never used it and although they have 6 indoor tennis courts (they are hard courts), 15 outdoor clay and hard tennis courts (all of which are lighted), 6 racquetball courts and 1 squash court, they have over 42,000 square feet of indoor space dedicated to racquet sports, I can't say with certainty I played on the outdoor clay (really Rubico) courts. They have a dedicated staff who really makes this club shine! I played here solely as a guest so I can't speak to the membership costs or benefits. I'm really proud of the revamp of this center in 2010! Well done good people! It's also an event center (think private parties of all sizes or a rehearsal dinner) and hosts fun events including pickleball. Thanks for promoting the sport of a lifetime in Huntsville!

I joined the Huntsville Athletic Club of Alabama after relocating for work, attracted by its…read moreimpressive facilities and tennis clinics. To participate, I was required to sign a membership contract. Over time, I spent nearly $500 on clinics, around $1,000 in membership fees, and more on food and other services. Six months later, I had to relocate to Georgia for a new job. When I asked to cancel my membership, they insisted on a $250 cancellation fee. Considering my circumstances and how much I'd already invested, I expected a more understanding response. After looking into Alabama law, I discovered that under Ala. Code § 8-23-4(6), health studios are legally required to allow contract cancellation without penalty if a member relocates and there's no affiliated facility within 15 miles of the new address. I brought this to their attention, but they ignored it and even denied being a registered health studio--despite being listed on the Alabama Attorney General's Health Studio Registration. Not only is their behavior unethical, but the contract they make you sign is voidable under state law. They try to sneak in additional fees or clauses to make it seem enforceable, but legally, it's not. They rely on customers not knowing their rights. I disputed the charge with my credit card company, but the club's filing department denied it. Don't be fooled by the friendly faces or flashy courts. When it matters most, this club will put profits ahead of people. I recommend considering other tennis facilities in Huntsville such as: * Huntsville Tennis Center - A public facility with 36 courts, lessons for all ages, leagues, and tournaments. * PlayYourCourt Huntsville - A flexible option for lessons and community play with certified instructors. Choose a facility that respects its members and the law.
