Imagine a hockey game, but replace the ice with a roller rink. Swap out the baggy jerseys for fishnet hose and tank tops, and abandon ordinary names in favor of pseudonyms like Hilda-beast and Rambo Sambo. What you have is a reasonable facsimile of women's roller derby. The scoring is completely different, but both sports are rowdy, raucous and sometimes punctuated with fights between the players and refs. That being said, Roller derby is addicting. I think it is something that must be experienced at least once in your life. The crowds are mixed with a little bit of everything, the fans are whipped into a frenzy by the team "jeer squad" the Rhinestone Ruckus. There is live music, which kicks off the match with a powerful rendition of the star spangled banner Alla Jimi Hendrix. During match play there is a DJ keeping the beats going and a live play by play announcer Dr. Gonzo keeping you in the loop (so to speak) Everyone should get out and support their local derby girls. Matches go once a month, for more information check out the web site. Be warned because like me you may become hooked.

Here is real unique all female contact sport on roller skates. Its awesome! Fast paced plenty of action. They even had well known radio figure as 1/2 time show. Its a great time and its cheap go see the girls in blue and cheer them on.

There are a couple of skills to learn if you're not already familiar with the sport, but most people learn the drop punt and handball quickly with a little patience. The Nashville Kangaroos have a national reputation in the United States Australian Football League as a team that plays "hard but clean." Australian football is played without pads or helmets, but there are several basic rules for player safety. The Nashville Kangaroos take pride in playing by these rules - for example, avoiding tackles above the shoulders. Want to watch? Ask, and someone will explain the game. There might even be live commentary. Want to play? Everyone is welcome to try, and one of the players or coaches will take the time to teach you some basic skills. Then you can join the team training sessions. Check their web site, or find them on Facebook or Twitter for their schedule. It's a fast-flowing, fun game. Be in it!

Their home fields are at Elmington Park at 3500 West End Ave. You can see their games here during the season at Elmington Park when they host out of town teams for competition. The game Footy is some kind of hybrid between American Football, Soccer, and Rugby. The way the do the scoring is related to soccer, and football with a certain number of points assigned based on whether the ball is kicked over a goal post or whether it is carried across the line. I don't completely understand the rules yet, but it is a lot of fun to watch. The game is very fast paced, and I really like the way the do the scoring for the game. Each goal has a score keeper and the score keeper has two flags. Based on the score the flag bearer does some choreographed moves to indicate the score. He wears a white coat and hat and waves the flags in a very formal way. It is enough fun for me just to go and watch the flags wave. Also, the men that seem to gravitate to this sport are quiet buff. So if nothing else you can get the girlfriends together to watch some fit men run around. They aren't wearing any heavy padding to obscure your view. Watching Footy is a nice way to spend a summer afternoon, you can get some sunshine and culture all in one fell swoop.
