My pet was being treated for dry eye and a corneal ulcer. We followed the treatment plan exactly as prescribed, including waiting for a medication that had to be specially shipped to us because it was not immediately available. Dr. Marcus knew we were waiting for that medication. Once the medication arrived, my pets eye seemed to worsen rather than improve. When we returned, instead of showing compassion or discussing all possible options, I felt the responsibility was shifted onto my family by suggesting we had not brought her back soon enough. That was difficult to hear, especially because we had been following the treatment plan and waiting on the medication that had been prescribed. During that visit, Dr. Marcus told us my pet's eye had perforated, that she was already blind in that eye, and that her other eye would likely begin having problems as well. No compassion, just blunt and he was very rough with her eye during the examination. We were given a list of veterinary ophthalmologists in Illinois and told to pursue surgery. There was no expression of empathy or reassurance during what an incredibly emotional moment. After researching the referral options, I was advised to take my pet to an emergency hospital where she could be evaluated by a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist immediately. That decision changed everything. The ophthalmologist thoroughly examined my pet and developed a completely different treatment plan. He prescribed three ophthalmic medications along with antibiotics. He also explained that the previous treatment recommendations including relying on the shipped medication, lubricating drops, and contact lens saline alone were not appropriate for my pet's condition. Most importantly, he gave us hope instead of assuming the worst. His examination also differed significantly from what we had previously been told. He found that my pet's eye still responded to light, there was still healthy blood vessel growth supporting healing, and her other eye was healthy. After just one week on the new treatment plan, I could clearly see her full pupil again. At her follow-up appointment, the ophthalmologist confirmed that the corneal ulcer had healed. We are now beginning another medication to continue her recovery, and once her eye is fully stable, we will address her cherry eye to help reduce her risk of developing dry eye disease in the future. The difference between the two experiences was remarkable. The ophthalmologist was patient, compassionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about my pet. He took the time to explain every step of her condition and treatment, and he treated both my pet and our family with kindness and respect. Based on my personal experience, I would not go back to Glen Park When it comes to complex eye conditions or specialty care, or any care at all. I feel like he really didn't know what meds to give her and it was really beyond his scope of work and should have referred me out from the beginning. I would strongly encourage pet owners to seek evaluation from a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist as soon as possible. I do want to recognize the nursing staff at Glen Park. Every nurse we encountered was kind, professional, and caring, and I sincerely appreciate the compassion they showed us throughout our visits. This experience was heartbreaking and I am grateful we pursued a second opinion because it gave my pet another chance.

I am not a veterinarian, but spent decades handling, and maintaining hundreds of wild, and domestic animals, many injured, sick, or orphaned. I've witnessed the expertise, and business ethics of over a dozen different veterinarians in my life. It is refreshing that Dr. Larson has NOT buddied up with the big corporate machines, bent on pushing unnecessary procedures, medications, tests, and credit cards to rip off their clients....

When I told them I was going to ER they brought her out in a blanket... NO movement at first. Later she pooped as we rushed her to ER. That's last time I saw my Chi-Weenie alive. When we got to Hyde Park she was moving in my lap- standing up- playing on my shoulder--- THEY took her to the back... and returned her dying in a blanket. I HATE THEM FIR TAKING HER. She was my baby, and my daughters Emotional Support Animal. We lost a piece of our heart that day.

My first visit, I had to LITERALLY carry my 55 lb dog in because he was so afraid of the vet... the second time we went, I could hardly contain his excitement to get through the doors! Every visit is pure joy for him, even if he's getting shots or nail trims. I had to have a dog put down a few weeks ago, and I have never experienced better bedside care from a veterinary practice. Yes, they are a tad higher fee-wise, but so worth it knowing my babies always get good care from all staff!

My girl Hates her.. Marco was rough and my baby tried to bite her 2 times. They took texts.. Make long story short, she over medicated her I took her off and was better in 2 days...and I told them so.. one week later Marco contacted me through texting asking how she was doing and if the symptoms come back to contact her. Yeah Right!! The front desk clerk is an IDIOT! What is said here is solely what I had experienced and never want to again!

UPDATE #2: I highly suggest bringing your pets to BevLabs in Blue Island instead of BHAH! They have the most kindhearted and friendly staff who will treat your pets with lots of love and care. They took care of setting up a payment plan for me when they noticed I was in distress, the vet herself was incredibly thorough and kept me in the loop about absolutely everything, and the clinic receptionists are very friendly and super helpful (unlike BHAH) UPDATE #3 lol: it was a malignant tumor, so essentially they were just going to let her suffer. This feels so full-blown-Karen to do, but I have to put my pride aside once my baby is involved. I took my cat in to get some minor cuts checked and a mammary lump looked at which everybody knows is something pretty urgent/needs to be addressed ASAP. The vet (Walsh) didn't locate the mass and sent her home with a clean bill of health. Nobody told me that they weren't able to locate it until I realized that I didn't get enough information during the discharge and called back. I wanted to know what the mass was if not something malignant (if it was a cyst or a lipoma, etc.), and their answer was that they "didn't see it". So rather than letting me know that or having me show them where it was (even though it was very clearly written in the intake paperwork) and having a definite answer for me, they just made the assumption that everything was fine and WOULD NOT have told me that had I not called back on my own. No bloodwork or x-rays to double check since they couldn't physically locate it (If they even tried. It's literally right there.) They honestly should reimburse me since I have to start over again at a new vet and get her reassessed. It feels wildly unfair to have me pay in exchange for zero answers. When I called back for the third or fourth time, they said that they aren't able to see her again until two days from now. I feel extremely uncomfortable having to wait to get my cat seen AGAIN for something that should have easily been addressed the first time I was there. If this turns out to be something aggressive and they had me wait multiple days to resolve it, we're going to have a massive issue. I've been up all night worrying and I've been crying all day. They didn't take my concerns seriously whatsoever and I would never feel safe bringing her back there again. We need vets that we can trust to be thorough and will communicate/give us answers to our concerns regarding our pets. I loved having this office so close as my cat is afraid of being in the car. I'm so disappointed and scared, and I'm so worried about my baby.

We have been going here for probably close to twenty years through multiple pets with varied health issues. Dr Keeley and the staff at Southlane have always done an incredibly thorough assessment of our animals and provided detailed plans for treatment and long term health. Everything is explained extremely well and information printouts are always sent home to reference. Dr Keeley is compassionate, caring and puts the comfort of your pet first. He doesn't ever do unwarranted tests or procedures. Southlane's prices are very fair, especially when your pets are getting such excellent care. Honestly, I don't know what we will do if he ever retires. They have a friendly, efficient staff with several who have been working there for years. The kindness, care and excellent veterinary medicine that exists at Southlane is everything a person could want for their pets and I highly recommend them.

I never got to meet the vet and I think those covid rules are a little on the paranoid side, especially since it's over.. I live on the north side so it was a drive I would've easily made for my dog but the fact you have to stay in your car just didnt sit well with me. the nurse was very very nice i never got to meet the vet, so I can't say anything good or bad about her I just wish she would allow pet parents to come in. i can't ask questions about my do on the sidewalk, the setup is just uncomfortable.. I didn't even mind paying the partial payment I understand time is money.
