Maybe Grillen doesn't serve gourmet burgers as many of famous burger places in Copenhagen now, but they were there for me when I was craving meat intake (awww!) and they were cheap (lunch offers: 69 kr for burger, fries and dip) and this girl could just not say no.
The restaurant is just a stone's throw away from Christianshavn metro st and it was big, airy and light.
I went in at the last hour of the lunch offer and the place was half empty apart from few couples sitting by the window. As I overheard them talking to each other later, they were mostly visiting / tourists as well - no surprise in Christianshavn area, I suppose.
The girl behind the counter greeted me as I entered the restaurant and took my (take away) order efficiently. I was not ask how I wanted my burger though, which probably a minus in the eye of burger lovers, but I was having some sort of meat withdrawal symptoms so it was more of emergency for me to get my meat ASAP.
She told me that it would take 15 minutes for my order to arrive and it was actually only 10 minutes since the kitchen was not busy. The take away bag however was HUGE - probably the only minus about this place. Save paper or make a bigger burger?
As I went back underground to catch the metro back to my place, I felt people staring at my HUGE brown paper bag stamped with Grillen logo on the front with delicious burger smell wafting from it. I almost barked "Yes, I have burger and you don't, is it my fault now?" - that kind of thing.
Once I got home and unwrapped the bag, the burger (FULLY LOADED) and the curly fries were wrapped nicely individually. No mess, no mixing. The burger was good! I like the fact that the sweet caramelised onion gives balance to the salty gruyere and crispy bacon and the meat was good enough to satisfy my craving at least for the next few months (I'm actually not a (big) meat eater!). The fries were ok, I like them curly than not but the dip! The habanero blend came with a warning and as an Asian in Denmark, I tend to ignore these warnings, but yes, it was super spicy and burned my lips nicely (I'm not complaining!)
Overall verdict: Pretty good "normal" burger and with the lunch offer for 69kr, it can't really get any better than that. read more
