This place is off the beaten path at a golf course, but the food is very good! We both had the Chicken Marsala, which was quite tasty, coming with two breast pieces in a Marsala wine sauce with mashed potatoes and a zucchini vegetable side. Would highly recommend! read more

This place is great. Every time I come, I leave satisfied with the food, ambiance , and service. You overlook the outdoor pool that is available to the members and you overlook part of golf course. Their cocktails are refreshing, their food is full of flavor, and the staff are attentive. Even the chef came out to ensure the way the avocado was sliced was correct for my friend's child to her liking. I recommend coming here even if you don't golf! read more

We came in for an early lunch and my mom mentioned that she felt like having breakfast. Typically breakfast was not served on this day however the waitress went and spoke to the owners and they pulled everything out and made my mom breakfast. She swore that was the best breakfast and potatoes she had had in years. Thank you so much for your kindness and making my mother feel so special! She passed away that October and you helped make her last birthday weekend just that much more amazing for us all! You really must stop in and try this restaurant located within a golf course club house. One of our party,by choice,follows a gluten free diet and at times it can be a challenge finding a restaurant offering options that include a burger bun. We ordered the Americana Chips, French Dip with sweet potato fries on a gluten free bun and the Hero Sub with garlic Parmesan chips. The Americana chips are fresh cut and fried, covered in cheese,chicken, red onion, avocado and a spicy mayo, Amazing! The French Dip was yummy as were the sweet potato fries. The Hero Sub was delish,served on a fresh grilled Italian bread with fresh lettuce and sliced salt and peppered tomatoes. Just like if at home!!!! What a fabulous restaurant to drop in to on a random Sunday night (that happened to be Fathers Day). Our family was in town for vacation and had heard great things about the food and service at Grillroom 1901 - and it did not disappoint. Driving up, don't be confused on the location, as it is inside the country club (otherwise, it can be easy to miss the parking lot). The food was hot, fresh, and quick. Great selection of beer on tap as well. Will definitely be back if we are ever in the Sault Ste Marie area again! read more

We ordered takeout from here because we wanted to eat while watching the ships pass by our campground. My sis ordered the whitefish fish & chips & was very disappointed with the number of bones she encountered (10+). She also didn't receive any cole slaw, an integral part of any fish & chips. On the other hand, I ordered the State Street Pasta & greatly enjoyed it. I am rating them down 2 stars because of the fish bones & missing cole slaw, but I would order from  this restaurant again. We planned a staff appreciation dinner for our team and really enjoyed the entire evening. The owners and staff at the Sault Ste. Marie Country club really took care of us. In addition to the regular menu items ( I had Steak Frites ) they also offered us a Prime Rib special and a lobster ravioli. For me, the best part of dining out is the service and how we're looked after. Our server didn't miss a bit, made sure glasses were always filled and was attentive throughout the entire experience. This restaurant is the grill room for the Soo Country Club. Great golf course and the food at restaurant is awesome! They also have outdoor seating when the weather cooperates. Good selection of Michigan craft beers, craft cocktails, and wine. We had the guacamole appetizer followed by State Street pasta and the veggie burger. At least half a dozen good local beers on tap to go with the prime rib, gnocchi, caesar salad and fish and chips. Normally, I don't think of country clubs as being synonymous with good food, but this one truly delivers. This family-owned gem has a menu that truly highlights local flavors, with dishes like club poutine and superior whitefish. The price point is on par too, the most expensive dish is $19 (NY Strip Steak) and most of the dishes are around $12 and under, very reasonable for high quality fare. It also boats a warm inviting ambiance with rich wood and lots of natural light. The staff was extremely friendly and made me feel at home, even though I am not a local. I will definitely be visiting the Grillroom again when I return this summer to the Sault! read more

Finally found the time to check this place out. Absolutely wonderful! We had the calamari appetizer, they were NOT not fried rubber bands. Tender and cooked perfectly. The salsa and cocktail sauces were delightful. We shared the perch entree and had it pan fried. Again, absolutely perfect. We ordered it with a wild rice pilaf, steamed broccoli and cauliflower. My boyfriend was blown away because 'a country club doesn't have good food'... I made him tell me I was right. Our party of 4 had dinner here one evening. We had a very nice young waitress who tried very hard to serve our needs. We had good salads, the Hudson and the Caesar but the only other items that were good were fried....the fish tacos, the French fries, the sweet potato fries, the wings. Had THE best dinner and experience anyone could ever expect. Kind of stumbled into this place with zero expectations and came away so happy. It's a small country/golf club dining room. It was packed. There was a wedding reception going on on and a large party of seniors clearly traveling together but we were welcomed like old friends. Drink menu posted on the wall had about 20 interesting, creative combinations.ordered one that was way out of my comfort zone and it was knock your socks off delish. We had an app that was a take on nachos--house made chips with fresh chicken, red sauce noon, avocado, chopped tomatoes and a mild crema. Could have licked the plate. Hubs entree was a whitefish Sammie on brioche bun, sweet potato fries and slaw. I had California chicken wrap that was oh so fresh and yummy. We have eaten here several times and not been disappointed. I know the owners who recently bought the property and golf course. They have hired a chef and the menu is limited with daily specials but I think keeping the menu limited to a few well prepared items is much better than having a lot of mediocre offerings. Prices are reasonable. We come mainly for the Whitefish which is lightly pan fried, broilded or blackened and comes out hot, moist and cooked just right. Good selection of beers including regional microbrews and wines. Depending on where you are seated you see the golf course or the St. Mary's river and the ship traffic passing about 200 yds away.
