Thank you for hosting our Cheer Team dinner VERY LAST MINUTE! We had a group of 28 and it was very very successful! We had just arrived from California for a Cheer Competition and went straight to restaurant for Dinner. The pizza is AMAZING, the desserts are DELICIOUS and staff very nice! Food was decent although I was told they were cleaning the oven on a Sunday afternoon? So no pizza available. Wait was 40 minutes for a cold charcuterie board. Very small portion for 20.00. This was such a great brick oven pizza place! The staff was welcoming. The restaurant was very busy. It was a Saturday night but we were seated quickly with no wait time. The food was great, very pricey but we enjoyed our pizzas. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered a white chicken pizza, and a pepperoni pizza adding half jalapenos. We also got a small Ceaser Salad. The salad is nothing special. Don't expect a creamy dressing it's more of a vinaigrette. The pizza is very pricey compared to other places in the area. The white pizza 12 inch with 6 small brick oven thin slices was $15 and the chicken was an additional $5. 12 in pepperoni was $14 plus the pepperoni cost of $4 and half jalapeños was $2. SERVICE: The service was very slow and we had to get up and get our own Parmesan and red pepper flakes. I'm assuming because it was busy on a Saturday night. We sat outside and the patio had a total of 3 servers outside but none seemed to help each other even when they noticed we were out of drinks, looking for the Parmesan, needing napkins, and at the end needing our bill. Zero stars if that was allowed!! Put in a to go order for a small cheese pizza and pink lemonade at 6:57 and got pizza at 7:52. For $28.97, that's ridiculous. They were not even busy which made it worse. Had to entertain my 4 year old grand daughter for almost an hour. The hostess was very nice and apologetic. Not her fault at all. I love Grimaldi's. It's coal fired pizza and you can certainly taste the flavor. My husband and I recently went for his birthday. Fun fact they have an excellent birthday offer and give you a large cheese pizza for free during the month of your birthday. Best part is if cheese isn't your thing or you'd like to upgrade they let you apply the value to any pizza you'd like! We decided to get a pizza called the Don. It has pepperoni, basil and homemade meatballs on it. It is sooo good and better yet we had leftovers to take home for another meal. The only reason I'm not giving Grimaldi's a 5 star is due to service. It can be a bit slow. Our server was great but she had her hands full with serving half the restaurant. Very cute restaurant in a nice little shopping area. I was in the mood for a good brick oven pizza and this seemed like a good option. I ordered the margherita pizza and enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar. Service was fine. The gal doing the bussing checked on me much more the actual bartender. Actually, she had three very high maintenance women at the bar who wanted to taste test all the wine and make all kinds of special orders with their pizza so I probably seemed pretty self sufficient to her! LOL. The outer crust of the pizza was delicious and tasted crunchy and coal fired; the base of the crust was soggy and doughy so that was a bummer. Average food, terrible service. We were sat and after ten minutes or so flagged a hostess down to let her know we'd not seen a server. Ten minutes later our server came and took our orders, gave some excuse about not being able to "get into our table" on her tablet. Serving is hard and thankless, I get it - I used to do it (poorly.) I was just truly annoyed by having to flag down someone and that also not solving the issue. Even if tech was the problem, maybe some water and an acknowledgment when she went past our table a couple times would've created some goodwill? No one seemed to care or to want to make it feel like we should have anything but an unpleasant experience. We ordered a pizza and that took 45 minutes to come out. It was remarkably average. The server came by as few times as possible, whereas two of her peers were hustling around us to serve adjacent tables. Hubby and I ordered it the other evening and had it delivered to the house via door dash and despite being driven around for a while, when it arrived, it was definitely worth the wait. Now make no mistake, as pizzas go, at just over $27.00 for a 12" pie, this one is pricey, but we ate every bite between us and agreed that it was worth the splurge. There's just something about the way the flavors all come together that brings relief to bored tastebuds in the most satisfying way. So, yeah, bottom line, we would order it again. Great place for a Saturday lunch! The lemon arugula salad was excellent. The baby arugula was fresh and tender with a vinaigrette that was perfect, not too tart, with a hint of sweetness. Follow my lead and give it a squeeze of lemon. And I like the fact that they tossed the coal oven baked croutons with the dressing. They absorbed the flavor and didn't break a tooth, if you know what I mean. The pepperoni pizza was enjoyable. It's the thin crust with their delicious sauce that sets them apart from the other pizzerias. With brick walls, black and white photos of New York landmarks, The Rat Pack, and Marilyn, and Frank crooning in the background, I took a step back in time. The service was prompt and friendly. We haven't eaten at a Grimaldis in over a year. So glad we found one and we're all super excited to have some. As we expected this pizza was awesome. The clust was super crispy, the pizza had little flop, the pepperonis were crispy, sauce was on point and the cheeses was perfect. We got the large ceaser salad before the pizza and even the kids liked it. The whole family feasted and over ate cause we haven't had this good of pizza in a long time. We did have 1 issue with the soda having zero carbonation. I was going to take a star off for it but the pizza and service made up for it. My 12 inch pizza was 23 bucks originally, there was an up charge of 2 bucks for adding garlic, so 25 bucks for a 12 inch pizza. Boyfriend got a traditional pizza which is 14 bucks, he added pepperoni and sausage, it's an up charge of four bucks for each type of meat so his came to be 22 for a 12 inch pizza. Id be fine with that if the food and service blew me away but the food was just okay and the service was lack luster at best. Never received a refill, waitress was too busy talking to other staff and it was not busy. Even put my empty glass at the edge of the table as a means to signal to her, and nothing. Meal was 53 bucks before tip and wasn't worth more than 20. read more

I would give the place five stars except for the fact that the manager on duty (and maybe a select 1-2 employees) seemed to be absent. The good: The bartender was super great and attentive- even though he had phone/take out order duty plus all the tables in the bar area. This area was by far the busiest in the restaurant and it was being run by 1 guy. Oh, and he was playing host(ess) as well as people came in the door. The Caprese salad was decent but overly dry. Just a tiny drip of oil. We asked for vinegar and oil to add to the plate which made it 100 times better. Regarding the pizza - overall excellent! Great taste. Nice sauce and fresh cheese and ingredients. Except for the fact that it showed up under the "hot plate" area who the manager was supposedly managing and sat there for 10 mins before we received the pizza. It was literally just above luke warm. Still really good, but a little disappointed that the cheese wasn't stretchy and hot. The bad: The biggest complaint was the "manager" on duty absolutely did not help her staff or know what she was doing. Maybe new? I don't know. She was barely visible the whole time we were there. This was my first time at this restaurant. First problem is when me and ent into the restaurant, we were not offered seating. I had to ask if we seated ourselves. I was not asked if we needed a menu. I had to ask for one. Not happy with service. I was undecided what I wanted. I was told they clean ovens at 3 pm so I felt rushed in making a decision. We got there about 2:50 pm. Location is great, right in the summit. Parking, walking is available, etc. LOVE their calzones (they all come with ricotta). Serving sizes are huge, and the price isnt expensive. The service is friendly, no complaints, and never too busy. There's a bar but I have never seen someone sitting there in the five times I have been. The place is designed to be obnoxiously Brooklyn if the designer only knows Brooklyn from watching the Godfather. Obnoxiously Italian-American and New York City fetishized, feels a little weird. I got to enjoy a day date with my husband yesterday and we found our selves at The Summit. After shopping, before returning to Richmond we had to choose between pizza or tacos, pizza won. We have never had Grimaldi's before so we went in with no expectations. There was only one server, who was also the bartender, for the whole restaurant. That girl was running her legs off. We ordered drinks, it took a while. I ordered a giant slice, my husband had the giant slice and a Caesar salad. The pizza was delicious! Very thin crust, our favorite. The bartender/server did tell us they usually have 2 people for Friday at lunch but they didn't this week. For whoever runs this place: give that girl a raise, put to go boxes by the bar so she doesn't have to go through the whole restaurant to get them, and have the host help her get drinks and run food. The staff and our waitress were friendly and the food was great. As others said the Pizza was a few dollars more than other places but was good. We also split a house salad and had plenty to eat. I went to Grimaldi's for the first time over the weekend around 6pm on a Saturday night. I ordered the small Caesar salad which was perfect to share between two people but definitely could be split between three. It was pretty good, however they forgot to add croutons to it, but it didn't bother me enough to have it fixed. My friend and I shared the 12" Margherita pie and added the spicy chicken sausage. The pizzas are coal fired so the crust is pretty crunchy, but the inside is softer and floppier. The cheese was super stretchy, and I thought the tomato sauce was pretty good. The staff were all very friendly and fun, dressed in costumes for Halloween weekend. I'd say I had a pretty good first experience and would probably come back again read more

As a native Net Yorker I'm pretty fussy about my pizza and Italian food in general. Grimaldi's offers an exceptional version of NY Brick Oven Style pizza, which is not to be confused with Traditional New York Style pizza. Brick Oven pizza has a very thin, crisp crust that does not get soggy from the toppings. On this particular evening out my daughter and I opted for a White Pizza with Garlic and added a couple of extra toppings....sun-dried tomatoes and fresh basil. The pizza was served fresh and hot out of the oven. The crust was thin and crisp and it was prepared with just the right amount of toppings! PERFECT AND DELICIOUS!! I am ahead of myself on the pizza and must mention we began our meal with a cocktail and salads. I chose the White Wine Sangria, served perfected chilled and filled with ample fruit (pears and mangos) and a Lemon Arugula Salad. I was worried the salad may be too plain, but it was just perfect prepared with croutons, fresh shaved Parmesan cheese and a light lemon vinaigrette dressing! My daughter ordered the Mediterranean Salad and was equally delighted! We finished out the meal by sharing our favorite Italian dessert....Tiramisu. Yum!! Due to COVID-19 plus the beautiful KY spring weather, we opted to dine on the outdoor patio. Our service was prompt and courteous, the wait staff ensuring they checked on us often. Also, the restaurant was very careful to follow social distancing guidelines, wearing the necessary PPE and maintaining 6' social distancing guidelines for tables. Wonderful dining-experience! If it were just about the pizza, I'd give this place three stars. Service is excellent, but the pizza is average. The best part about the pizza is the brick oven baked crust. Lots of bite to it. However the sauce has no real flavor outside of tomato. The cheese and other toppings are sparse. All in all an adequate pie. However this place is expensive as well for what you get. At the time of this review a traditional 16 inch pizza with two toppings was $23. I think a Little Caesar's pizza is about $6.50 or so for pepperoni. Yet I would say the Little Caesar pizza has more toppings quantity and tastes better. So Grimaldi's is a one and done for me. read more

I've been wanting to try this pizza place for over a year. It was good but not outstanding. This is what I liked- the pizza wasn't greasy and they had a lot of options to choose from. I could eat a whole 12in and not feel gross. The sauce on the Margherita pizza was very good. I also appreciate the fact that they put prosciutto on pizza, I don't know why more places have not caught on to this great combo. This is what I didn't like- the bottom of the pizza was soggy, or in the words of Dave Portnoy had a lot of "flop". I like my pizza crispy not soggy. I also thought the crust lacked a lot of flavor, it tasted like a plain naan bread. It was flat bread like, which I do appreciate on pizza (when it's flavored). I feel as if I was waiting for the wow factor, or a punch of flavor in general that I never got. I didn't not like the pizza but I didn't love it. Not my first time, but first with family. We ordered the BBQ chicken and pepperoni pizzas. Pepperoni was for my bonus unadventorous daughter. We all loved flavors, but my husband prefers thicker crust. I think the flavors of pizza are better on thin crust, so the overall experience was not perfect. Also, I had the Watermelon Lemonade before and loved it, but unfortunately they ran out but server suggested Blueberry Lemonade...it was delicious!! Price overall was high for one regular and one medium size pizzas and beverages...we spent almost $50. But hey, it's about an experience, right?! Plz let me share some details of recent visits to Grimaldis, Lexington KY restaurant. First let me say the food is delicious an service is awesome. Unfortunately I have experienced some negative behaviour from a female host. She is older with graying hair. First she sneezes over our table without covering her mouth much less any apology. Plz don't ask for table other than where she wants to take you as she pretends to not hear you. The kids love the dough to play with but if this host is asked she replies " I don't do that". Other host bring it gladly as I don't know the difference. As we leave the restaurant she is at host stand literally picking her nose. This is a restaurant where food is prepared an served. How rude as well as unsanarity. I'm unsure of her people skill as she is always rude in some manner. So I tried to visit when she will not be working. That proved to be difficult as I really don't want to even see her.At least I have takeout to fall back on as I can't seem to be able to dodge her being present. Totally unexpected on my last visit I learned from my server that this host is part of a clique. It seems her daughter who also employed by Grimaldis is best friends with a manager. Could her behavior be overlooked as her daughter s relationship with a manager? Her interaction with her co-workers doesn't seem to be any better.She also has daughter who works as bartender. I witnessed a conversation between the daughter who was bartending. They were making fun of another co worker. It wasn't hard to determine the co worker being made fun of when a employee walked around the corner. She must have heard some of the conversation as her face turned beet red before trotting to the kitchen. To these 2 employees they must have found this hilarious as they laughed their heads off.I really do not know what is going on here but it feels like boat load of toxicity . I would ask why these employees are acting out but I wonder even moreso as why this behavior is tolerated by management. There must be more than 1 manager at Grimaldis. I made 2 previous reviews an nothing seemed to improve. It does seem that there is a some form of special treatment given to some employees if they have friendship with a manager. read more
