The food was ok. The portions are kind of small for what you pay. I paid close to $90 for 5 small sandwiches and a few single serve sides.

After a work trip, we decided to stop by Smolick's Smokehouse after hearing good things about their…read morebarbecue. First impression--the place is big, with plenty of seating. When you walk in, there's a clear line leading up to the register, with menus posted along the way and a large menu board up front, which makes ordering pretty easy. They offer a wide variety of options. The day we went, they had a chopped beef sandwich combo with a drink and a side for around $10, which felt like a solid deal. For my sides, I tried the mashed potatoes, potato salad, creamed corn, and okra. The okra was a standout--fresh, crispy, and really well done. The potato salad was also very good and worth getting. The creamed corn was something I hadn't had before--it included bacon and had a really unique flavor. It might not be for everyone, but I personally couldn't stop eating it, so I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. As for the chopped beef sandwich, it wasn't my favorite. It was a bit dry, even after adding extra barbecue sauce, and I didn't find it especially flavorful. That said, others in my group actually thought it leaned on the sweeter side, so your experience may vary. One thing that really stood out was the service. The staff was super friendly, patient, and happy to answer questions and help with recommendations. Overall, I'd say it's worth stopping by if you're in the area. If you're up for comparing, there's another barbecue spot a few miles down the road--Choke Canyon--that I've also enjoyed, especially for their sandwiches. Makes for a fun side-by-side if you're a BBQ fan.

With my first bite I realized the burger was dry. As I deconstructed the burger I found there wasn't a drop of condiments on it. I asked the waitress about the lack of mayo, mustard and/or catsup. She told me the hamburger does not come with those condiments. What??? Who serves an $8.99 burger without any condiments?

We ordered beef ribs and baby backs ribs. My beef rib had the best flavor I have ever had! It could have had some more meat on it but the owner and I talked and we both know the butchers these days are cutting them a little to close. Next time I want the brisket because if the rib tasted this good I can't wait for the brisket. Our pork ribs on the other had were extra meaty. Tender and juicy. The atmosphere is just what I like in a classic but comfortable BBQ restaurant. On a hot rainy day, AC is much appreciated... Until my next visit, we look forward to returning.

We're from out of town and picked this place because of the 4.5 stars. The BBQ is tasty but this review is based on their service. We walked in at 2pm and this place closes at 3pm. The lady who took our order did not greet us & smile one time, and had attitude about our questions. I asked her twice if they had creamed corn and silence. It was hard to get an answer out of her. Ok, no big deal, we can get past that. We found a booth at the front, on the side, sat with our two kids- a toddler and a baby. Feed the baby while we waited for our food. Clearly we had our hands full and we were one of two tables there. They called my name, while my husband and I were trying to settle the kids. Three employees at the pick up area, and none brought our food. Could have been a small gesture that means a lot to parents. Ok, again, no big deal- that was just an observation. What really tipped us over was when one of the employees turned off the lights JUST on our side of the restaurant at 2:20pm when we had just started eating. It's already dark in this place with the lights on. She came by and said "you can leave everything there and we'll come get it when you're done" I asked her if the lights were going to stay off and she said "yeah that's what we do when start to close, but don't rush" No smile and said it as she walked away. Don't rush?! You just turned off the lights on our side of the room. You clearly want us out. I am not asking to roll out the red carpet but one smile and nice gesture would have turned things around. Would absolutely not recommend, the food is not worth the TERRIBLE service.

Ordering first, get your own drink, pick up a desert (included with meal) and sit down in the rustic themed dining area. We got there early so it wasn't crowded....yet. A very reasonable short wait and our food was brought out....a lot of it. The portions are very generous. I got brisket, sausage, pinto beans and potato salad. Wife got a beef rib, sausage and the same sides. To be very frank, two people could split one plate and be very satisfied. A desert is included and the choices were a couple of different cobblers and two or three pudding varieties. The meats: OMG. The beef rib slipped out of the meat when my wife picked up the bone. What remained on the plate could be cut with her plastic spoon. Smokey, SUPER tender and just glorious. The brisket was just as tender--cutting not really needed. It pulls apart. And like the rib, flavor on point...just incredible smokey meat flavor. I went in hungry and could only eat half of my order. The sausage was just as wonderful with a firm snap of the casing without being chewy. We both thought the potato salad was one of the best BBQ joint potato salads we've had. I thought the beans (a bit of BBQ flavor) were a little spicy, wife didn't think so at all. Even the onions and pickles were top notch....they make their own pickles. The drive from Corpus was to go here. We didn't have any other reason to go to Woodsboro or the area. TOTALLY worth the drive and if you're simply in the Refugio/Woodsboro area...this is THE place to go. And as a grocery/meat market...quaint with some of the friendliest people you're likely to meet. The meat deals they offer look great. We WILL DEFINITELY make the drive again. BTW, we've got enough leftovers for another full meal each. (I ate my leftovers on Monday for lunch, reheated it's just as tender and flavorful.) What a treasure Woodsboro has in Tuttles!
