3 Item Combo $19.49. Jalapeño Sausage, Beef Rib, and Marbled Brisket
    Kevin W.

So thankful that Hoegemeyer's Barbeque Barn was within walking distance from my Hotel (Omni) during my work conference at Corpus Christie. The highest to-do on my list for this past work trip was get Texas Barbecue. After doing a search and realizing that Texas is vast, I scoured through Yelp to find the top rated places to fulfill this priority item. I ended up finding Hoegemeyer being a good 0.4 miles away. Determined, I placed an order (and then another order 2 days later) for their combinations. On the first day, I ordered a 2 Item Combination with Marbled Brisket and Pulled Pork. The Pulled Pork was a bit dry and made me regret not getting the 'bbq sauce', although not knowing what it was. The Marbled Brisket was fatty and just delightful. It was what made me realize that I needed to pay another visit before my week long trip was over. On the next visit, I ended up opting for a 3 Item Combination. The additional $3 allowed me to get another bbq item. Jalapeño Sausage, Beef Rib, and Marbled Brisket were my selections and they were all great. The Beef Rib seasoned well and the jalapeno sausage had a nice kick to it. The bbq sauce also had a nice spice to it too, which was perfect dipping sauce to the brisket and elevated it to the next level. I also preferred the sides I got during this visit, especially since previously I was picking from an online list. Service was courteous and they went above and beyond to make sure I got my order timely. The interior, especially coming from a Californian, was something out of a movie. I found it to be very charming and very glad to have visited here. Shout out to the manager/business owner, who told me that I was pulling when I should be pushing, and also which door to exit out of. Oops.

This is a tricky review. I'm spoiled by some of the best bbq in Texas being near my house, but I was in Corpus for work and this was 3 minutes from my hotel. The atmosphere and inside are 10/10. Such a good looking place with tons of seating. No sticky booths, very well kept. The sliced brisket was pretty average, and the sides were forgettable. However, the plate of meat and two sides was $13 with brisket. At one of the top rated bbq places I mentioned, you'd pay $13 just for the meat. Getting a whole meal with no line was just what I needed in between meetings. It's a very good value, and I'd return if staying nearby.

Wow- the service was amazing and fast- then OMG the chicken and baby back ribs are so flavorful and tender. To top things off- the baked beans are soooo amazing!

First impressions when you walk inside is positive with the interior decor. High open barn like ceilings with decorative lights and many fixtures hanging above and also on the walls create a festive atmosphere with many things to look at while eating. I ordered at the counter a 2 meat plate of chicken and moist brisket with sides of beans and baked potato salad. It also came with complimentary peach cobbler to boot! The food was ready in about 5 minutes. Immediately I noticed the generous amount of meat on my platter. The chicken was large and beautiful. Ditto on the brisket that also showed some bark. Consequently, the sides looked small. The beans filled about 2/3 of the small cup they were in. Same thing on the baked potato salad. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The brisket was the same way. The meats here are very good and show they know what they are doing (4). The sides weren't on the same level. The beans were good with a bbq flavor in the sauce but the portion size was too small (3.5). The baked potato salad was my least favorite taste wise. It didn't have enough of that baked potato taste that I have had in other restaurants that serve it (2). Finally that free peach cobbler was excellent! Oh, so creamy and peachy good! (4.5). My only real complaint is that they serve the bbq sauce in small containers with only one placed on the plate initially. When you need more, you have to get up and walk over to a counter and ask an employee for more. I like this restaurant and wouldn't hesitate to return. The prices are reasonable with good food in a nice atmosphere.

Not as good as the previous rating make it out to be. The brisket was mediocre. The Philly stake sandwich looked good. Ribs were moist.

The Gold Fish has proven this long-held collective pessimism wrong. Originally a cocktail bar only, it has now expanded into a cocktail, beer and wine outdoor/indoor bar, which makes complete sense given the city's demographic demands. It was actually one of the first businesses I was most concerned with us losing permanently during the pandemic. And I am so glad they have stuck around! It is a modern cocktail bar at its core, which makes it very unique to this city. This is an obvious adoption of cocktail bar trends from other larger cities in Texas. It is very nice, with a wide array of adult beverage options for discriminating consumers to chose from. The atmosphere is perfect, and the bartenders and staff are top-notch and super nice (the attitude is refreshing compared to what one may be used to recieving from such establishments in larger cities). I usually only come here when I have company from out-of-town, as I do not go out for drinks very often. At my most recent visit, I had just experienced a personal tragedy that I only briefly alluded to our bartender when she asked how our day was going. The amount of sincere compassion we received was not expected at all. My only regret is that I did not get her name, or else I would have gladly included it in this review.

The thing is that they have interesting hours, which made it hard for me to go visit. And my only way of trying their beers has been exclusively, at the bar inside the Hilton Double Tree Hotel. Enter having Valentine's Day on a Friday, which opened up the possibility to finally visit it. One thing about downtown Corpus Christi is that it is small and therefore absolutely no parking is available. Making going to Rebel Toad a bit precarious. We were able to secure a spot in the front before it opened at 3 pm. Having passed by it before I thought it was much bigger but it is small inside. There are a couple of high tables and chairs, accompanied by counter seating. I believe the owners are a couple and they were very friendly. The taplist is seven-ish beers deep. Some places are weary about giving samples. They offered some with recommendations. But me, I opted for a flight. Their beers are good. I did enjoy their "Liquid Haze IPA" but I think it's laid-back vibe close to the beach is what I ultimately appreciated. In addition a really killer playlist of the 80's was in the background. Any place that plays "Depeche Mode" will get my patronage, all day. The parking situation leaves a little to be desired. And I think not having food or at least nearby options might be an issue for some. But not for me. I probably will come back here again. But I'd like to visit here at night. In my city of San Antonio the craft beer scene is a bit inundated at the moment. In my opinion the Corpus Christi craft beer scene is in its infancy and might remain there for awhile. Rebel Toad Brewing can only help build that community. Now if I can only get rid of my fear of the ocean caused by seeing "Jaws." Then again the city is so laid-back back, I'll probably run into him here. And the 1st round will be on him.

Super unique and refreshing on the particularly muggy day. We also ordered a cherry vodka soda, which came topped with homemade maraschinos and juice, which was equally tasty. We also tried out a gin daisy and ghost of greyhound (a nod to the location previously being a bus station, hence, the BUS moniker). The gin daisy was a little too heavy on aperol for my tastes, but the ghost was another hit. It was great to see a specialty menu of drink combinations you don't often find.
