This was our first time in Corpus Christi. In my trip planning, I used Yelp to research BBQ Restaurants for the best ones. This was my pick and we were not disappointed. We ordered beef ribs and baby backs ribs. My beef rib had the best flavor I have ever had! It could have had some more meat on it but the owner and I talked and we both know the butchers these days are cutting them a little to close. Next time I want the brisket because if the rib tasted this good I can't wait for the brisket. Our pork ribs on the other had were extra meaty. Tender and juicy. The atmosphere is just what I like in a classic but comfortable BBQ restaurant. On a hot rainy day, AC is much appreciated... Until my next visit, we look forward to returning. read more

This was the worst experience we have had at a restaurant ever. We walk in to order and the girl at the front asked my husband, "what do you want" after I had ordered. We sat down to wait on our food and there were about 5 people behind us in line. They all got their food before we did. We waited 30 min to get our food (at a bbq place) and the food was cold and didn't taste like anything. They claim the construction in the area is hurting their business, but I think it's their customer service and food quality. DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

Decent BBQ but AWFUL customer service. I am not one to leave reviews, especially bad reviews. I want to support Small Businesses like this one but I have never experienced so many separate bad instances at a restaurant in less than an hour. We're from out of town and picked this place because of the 4.5 stars. The BBQ is tasty but this review is based on their service. We walked in at 2pm and this place closes at 3pm. The lady who took our order did not greet us & smile one time, and had attitude about our questions. I asked her twice if they had creamed corn and silence. It was hard to get an answer out of her. Ok, no big deal, we can get past that. We found a booth at the front, on the side, sat with our two kids- a toddler and a baby. Feed the baby while we waited for our food. Clearly we had our hands full and we were one of two tables there. They called my name, while my husband and I were trying to settle the kids. Three employees at the pick up area, and none brought our food. Could have been a small gesture that means a lot to parents. Ok, again, no big deal- that was just an observation. What really tipped us over was when one of the employees turned off the lights JUST on our side of the restaurant at 2:20pm when we had just started eating. It's already dark in this place with the lights on. She came by and said "you can leave everything there and we'll come get it when you're done" I asked her if the lights were going to stay off and she said "yeah that's what we do when start to close, but don't rush" No smile and said it as she walked away. Don't rush?! You just turned off the lights on our side of the room. You clearly want us out. I am not asking to roll out the red carpet but one smile and nice gesture would have turned things around. Would absolutely not recommend, the food is not worth the TERRIBLE service. read more

So thankful that Hoegemeyer's Barbeque Barn was within walking distance from my Hotel (Omni) during my work conference at Corpus Christie. The highest to-do on my list for this past work trip was get Texas Barbecue. After doing a search and realizing that Texas is vast, I scoured through Yelp to find the top rated places to fulfill this priority item. I ended up finding Hoegemeyer being a good 0.4 miles away. Determined, I placed an order (and then another order 2 days later) for their combinations. On the first day, I ordered a 2 Item Combination with Marbled Brisket and Pulled Pork. The Pulled Pork was a bit dry and made me regret not getting the 'bbq sauce', although not knowing what it was. The Marbled Brisket was fatty and just delightful. It was what made me realize that I needed to pay another visit before my week long trip was over. On the next visit, I ended up opting for a 3 Item Combination. The additional $3 allowed me to get another bbq item. Jalapeño Sausage, Beef Rib, and Marbled Brisket were my selections and they were all great. The Beef Rib seasoned well and the jalapeno sausage had a nice kick to it. The bbq sauce also had a nice spice to it too, which was perfect dipping sauce to the brisket and elevated it to the next level. I also preferred the sides I got during this visit, especially since previously I was picking from an online list. Service was courteous and they went above and beyond to make sure I got my order timely. The interior, especially coming from a Californian, was something out of a movie. I found it to be very charming and very glad to have visited here. Why is it called barbecue barn? Just step inside, and you'll see it's basically a barn converted into a restaurant. From the looks, this is an old place....not some new conversion. How have I not been here before? Well, unless you live in Corpus, come to Corpus on vacation or work nearby....not many people can come. Their hours are limited, serving only lunch during weekdays until 3pm. I had my selection narrowed down to the smoked burger, which is supposedly hand-formed, or the 2 meat plate. Since I just had a burger the night before, I chose the 3 meat plate. At 19.99, it's a pretty good deal since most bbq restaurants don't do meat plates anymore. I picked the marbled brisket, regular sausage, and beef ribs. Yes, beef ribs can be ordered also on the meat plates amazingly. Too bad they later came and told me they were out of the beef ribs. I switched to baby back ribs. For my sides. I chose the baked potato salad and bbq beans. The beans are just okay. They're ranch beans, and strangely, they have a lot of black pepper. 3/5 The potato salad is pretty good, though, and it seemed homemade for sure. 4/5 The baby back ribs are sadly very dry, at least the ones I got. 2/5 The brisket was tender and juicy, but I didn't see much of a smoke ring. It didn't appear or taste like prime to me, even though the cashier assured me their meat is top quality = prime. 3/5 The garlic sausage link, which is sliced lengthwise, is pretty good....probably the best meat I ordered. 4/5 It is a little inconvenient that your bbq sauce is in a little cup. When ordering a 3 meat plate, for example... you run out quickly. The meal comes with a complimentary peach cobbler served in a small Styrofoam bowl. I'm not a cobbler fan, but I ate it anyway. 3/5 Overall, I felt that even though the flavors are different due to different wood used to smoke the meats and preparation, the quality is on par with restaurants like Rudy's. Hoege's brisket isn't as good, nor are the baby back ribs. The sausage is similar. Sides were on par, though. If I am ever able to return, I'll definitely try the smoked burger since it gets rave reviews from the cashier. I feel they are more like a 3.5 but rounded up for yelp purposes. read more

Well I'm not sure where to begin... the atmosphere was fitting for a bbq joint. The service was fair. I had a Texas Ruben that had no flavor... their special sauce they put on it had little flavor or spice. The Texas potato salad had more flavor. Saw this place while visiting CC and was NOT impressed by my experience. My mom loved it because she likes brisket but I think it was not worth what I paid for. I ordered the pork ribs. Together I think I paid around $33.01 for both meals. So $15 for my meal 3 miserably ribs the size of a hotdog wiener with no meat and on top of that they could have at least throw in a damn slice of bread. This is a tricky review. I'm spoiled by some of the best bbq in Texas being near my house, but I was in Corpus for work and this was 3 minutes from my hotel. The atmosphere and inside are 10/10. Such a good looking place with tons of seating. No sticky booths, very well kept. The sliced brisket was pretty average, and the sides were forgettable. However, the plate of meat and two sides was $13 with brisket. At one of the top rated bbq places I mentioned, you'd pay $13 just for the meat. Getting a whole meal with no line was just what I needed in between meetings. It's a very good value, and I'd return if staying nearby. read more

Very proud Trump supporting owners. Giant Trump signs behind the counter. It's a large, barn-like building, but weirdly, half the space is blocked off and literally filled with junk! Like someone's attic or storage garage. Felt very dirty, dark, and cluttered. It's located at the end of a weird industrial road under the highway, felt sketchy. Cashier and people that served us were friendly. Brisket was good, cobbler was not (how do you mess up cobbler?!) Had we known the Trump part, we wouldn't have come. Today was our second time visiting. We came yesterday 09/07/23 right before closing time and grabbed their beef ribs, baby back ribs and brisket. Both were VERY tender and the beef ribs were seasoned to perfection. We also had the baked beans, Texas potato salad, coleslaw and bread pudding (which was very tasty I might add). The atmosphere and the customer service was amazing and they were very accommodating. We met the owner to see if we could get their beef ribs shipped to us in Chicago and he has the best southern hospitality that we have encountered in a while. The icing on the cake was he told us he love us. That left us we a great feeling. So if you are teetering on which Corpus Christi BBQ place to stop at, THIS IS THE ONE. First impressions when you walk inside is positive with the interior decor. High open barn like ceilings with decorative lights and many fixtures hanging above and also on the walls create a festive atmosphere with many things to look at while eating. I ordered at the counter a 2 meat plate of chicken and moist brisket with sides of beans and baked potato salad. It also came with complimentary peach cobbler to boot! The food was ready in about 5 minutes. Immediately I noticed the generous amount of meat on my platter. The chicken was large and beautiful. Ditto on the brisket that also showed some bark. Consequently, the sides looked small. The beans filled about 2/3 of the small cup they were in. Same thing on the baked potato salad. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The brisket was the same way. The meats here are very good and show they know what they are doing (4). The sides weren't on the same level. The beans were good with a bbq flavor in the sauce but the portion size was too small (3.5). The baked potato salad was my least favorite taste wise. It didn't have enough of that baked potato taste that I have had in other restaurants that serve it (2). Finally that free peach cobbler was excellent! Oh, so creamy and peachy good! (4.5). My only real complaint is that they serve the bbq sauce in small containers with only one placed on the plate initially. When you need more, you have to get up and walk over to a counter and ask an employee for more. I like this restaurant and wouldn't hesitate to return. The best bar b q restaurant in Corpus Christi Tx. I've been here several times and everything on the menu is freaking delicious. They staff are very friendly and helpful, the place is always clean and the service is excellent. The only sad thing about this place is.. certain menu items sell out fast. That's how incredible the food is. So, come early or miss out on some of the best tasting food you've ever devoured. I brag so much on Hoegemeyers bar b q. Well this is the second day in a row for me to visit. It's the best reviewed BBQ in the area for a reason, but definitely has its shortcomings. Day one was turkey and sliced brisket. Turkey was good but a tad dry, but it's turkey. What ya gonna do? The brisket was moist but didn't have much flavor. Not much beef flavor and not very much smoke flavor. Day two, got the turkey again, just love turkey, and it was super moist and flavorful. I also got chopped brisket today and it was super saucy. Almost too much sauce. And I literally got half the amount of side dishes I got yesterday. Maybe even less. Definitely have some consistency issues, but all around decent food. read more

Can't believe it's been 2 1/2 years since I've been here (and I live in this town!)! But, again, getting over in this part of town for lunch is tough. Hoegemeyer's makes it all worth it....STILL. Tried the brisket and sausage plate. I asked for the brisket to be "cut from the point." Not sure why but almost every place asks if I want "lean or moist/marbles/stringy/fatty".... like I hadn't already said which kind or they just don't know. Either way, what I got was AMAZING brisket! It had a beautiful, flavorful bark, great smoke flavor and über-tender! Also tried the jalapeño sausage this time. EXCELLENT choice! Had a little bite to it, but great "snap" and flavor. Once again, the service is outstanding. Heavenly Texas BBQ! Hoegemeyer's is excellent. I had the sandwich with brisket and sausage with the TX potato salad, baked beans, and the peach cobbler. The roll was baked in house and everything was fresh, authentic and tasty. Brisket (lean) was flavorful and tender and each bite was delicious. Potato salad was perfect and flavorful and the beans were sweet, tangy and a touch spicy, just to my liking. I had low expectations for the cobbler and planned to only taste it but polished it off. The food is good. I'm a tad confused as to why everyone is walking around without masks on. Like there really isn't a pandemic happening. My order was Togo. Made sure to ask if the bbq sauce made it in the bag. The lady who packed my food confirmed that she did in fact put bbq sauce in the bag. Took off another star Bc there was no bbq sauce in the bag. Go figure eating bbq without bbq sauce. Update: went back to get bbq sauce from the same lady who said she put bbq in my order. There was no apology, not even a thank you. She didn't have a mask and she was serving food. Kitchen staff also were not wearing mask. Gloves are also not wore by any staff. If you're on the same planet as me and know that there is a pandemic still going on, I wouldn't recommend this place in our current situation. Two stars is best I can give. read more

Our visit was in January 2020. Meh. The food is good but not exceptional. There was nothing that stood out to separate it from any other establishment serving BBQ. From the reviews, quite frankly, I expected above average taste and more than a small puddle of pulled pork for the price. The red skinned potato salad was a pleasant surprise since I don't see that often. There were only a few tables filled when we arrived so the service was pretty quick. As a bred, born, and raised Texan, I know my BBQ as good or better than most folks ever will, just sayin', not braggin'. I've eaten a lot of BBQ in my lifetime and in my travels. I am a self proclaimed BBQ Judge, and if I say it's good or bad, delicious or alright, or maybe even, Slap Yo Momma Good, you can take that to the bank. A coworker and I had lunch here today, and we were satisfied. We were both first timers, but we won't be last timers. The place was clean, and the staff, and owner were friendly. The brisket was a little dry, had a fairly good smoke flavor, and smoke ring, and the bark was alright. I ordered marbled, but it was pretty lean. I would rate their brisket at pretty good. I also had their black eyed peas which were very good, and their potato salad which was also very good. You can get all of the onions, pickles, and peppers you want at no charge. Now for the BBQ sauce, it was alright. It seemed a little watery, but it had a good flavor. You see, if you have to add sauce to add flavor, well then my friend, it's not very good brisket. I'll be honest, this brisket needed just a little bit of help. So why 5 Stars? I believe in chances, and there was nothing horrible about today's visit, service, or food. The only downfall is, when you leave, you'll smell like BBQ Smoke all day long. I'll be back to try some of their other meats and sides, but until then, I would say that this place is worthy of a bookmark, and a try, if you're passing through, or if you live or work near-by.
