I'm a bit overdue, but I thought better late than never to share my thoughts! I was visiting Buffalo in December for my best friend's birthday and needed recommendations for a blow dry bar. I actually reached out to my favorite blogger who lived there, and she sent me to Groom Service! I was not disappointed. My number one positive about GS is how quick they are. We were in and out in less than forty five minutes; as someone who values my time, that meant a ton to me. The interior is very small, but so incredibly cute!! Move over leopard, it's time for zebra print to shine. Parking was easy as we did a meter on the street. As soon as you walk into the hotel lobby, you'll see the bar on the right side. Cassie was very sweet, as was the other gal who helped us out. I wish I remembered her name, but she was new and had recently graduated from school. We chatted about the city life v Buffalo and exchanged stories like old friends. I loved how personable both of them were. There was another lady working with a client for hair dying, but she didn't speak or acknowledge us. Maybe she was too busy. That's ok! Our two girls made up for it. I did a curled bottom and a small top bun; my best friend did curls. With tip and services, I think I ended up spending around 140$ for the both of us. More expensive than what I'm used to in Orange County, CA (I pay $40 at home, but $55 here), but oh well. I checked in, and forgot to cash in on the little discount. Oof. Next time, I totally will! Megan is an absolute magician with hair. For context I've heavy thick hair and she was able to wash, blow dry and style my hair in under 50minutes. Pros 1. The staff is here is so sweet 2. They even had my latte delivered from the next door 'Public Espresso'. Shout out to the coffee shop ! 3. Very professional and don't try to sell you any extra products/services 4. Booked a dry style 2 weeks in advance. Confirmed the appointment 3 days in advance. Called the day of my appointment at 12:30 asking if I could push back my appointment from 3 to 4 but if not, it was fine. Only to get a call back TWO HOURS BEFORE my appointment saying it had to be cancelled. Was told by the woman who was to do my hair that she had surgery. I'm sorry about that, but I should have been informed WELL before as you clearly are not currently in the hospital, and are able to make calls. I was offered a gift card. The blow out was for Maternity Pictures. To me this is unacceptable, as I wonder if they were ever going to even tell me had I not called. I'm about to be a new mom. When will I need a blow out again. Not any time soon that's for sure. So, so, beyond upset. The picture below shows the timeline if you click. I was emailed at 1:18 showing it was cancelled, for a 3pm appointment. I booked an appointment online with anyone available for dry styling just prior to an evening wedding. This was my first time in Buffalo, so I was going based on Yelp reviews alone. Last weekend I had my hair and makeup done at Groom Service Last weekend for my sister's wedding. I haven't felt that pretty in years. My hair had a sophisticated side braid - something I've wanted to do but haven't attempted. My makeup was done by Tiffany who, even though she's still in school, did my makeup better than most professionals. My makeup was glamorous but not distracting. I'm so grateful for Katie and her staff. For a night I felt like a woman (and a mom) instead of only a mom. Katie oversaw the entire process. I have been here three times for blowouts, and once for a gel manicure. They do an excellent job and are super attentive to their customers. I am very impressed with their customer service model and skill. While I have not had my hair or makeup done for a wedding, I have seen some of their wedding work and it is beautiful. My hair is naturally curly, and can blow out nicely, but only under precise technique, from my experience. When I get an amazing blowout I'm always so impressed by the stylist because I know my hair is not the easiest. Kassie, in particular is a hair wizard. I highly recommend getting a blowout from her! She works the blow dryer like a ninja and finishes everything off to look soft and voluminous. They use really great hair products that smell fantastic and are quite down to earth. I love this salon. Katie is a true artist! Up until coming here, I was getting highlights (at pretty pricey salons in NYC) that were killing my fine hair, making it frizzy and dry. Katie coaxed me into giving color highlights a try a year ago, and my hair today is strong and healthy. I had the most amazing experience at Groom Service- Katie and the team are absolutely fabulous! I walked out of the salon literally looking- and feeling- the best I have ever! (Better than my bridal makeup and styling!) I got the full treatment from Groom Service including a Blow Out (which also included a wash, and 2 conditioning treatments of Kevin Murphy products which was a huge perk particularly given the hotel did not provide any shampoo or usable travel toiletries). The blow out and styling was amazing- my very flat and straight hair that never holds a curl, had volumes, curls/wave even the next day. I had a gemstone facial which I have never had before and it was so reviving to my skin as well as somehow got rid of my headache. Katie followed with my makeup which I have never seen my skin look so good. She walked me through the whole process with a mirror showing me how I could apply and do conturing myself and really listened to what I wanted- which was a natural look but flawless skin. I was so happy at the end- I didn't think I could look that good! Plus I got introduced to new brands I had not heard about but worked amazing on my skin. They didn't push at all to buy the products but since I wanted them and was traveling they shipped them home for free (also got tea and champagne on the house!) A tucked away gem in the hotel Lafayette, cozy and chic, it's a must try for anyone looking to pamper themselves for their wedding or just a night out. I hired Katie and her team for my wedding. I knew they did beautiful work because I noticed their hair and make up stylings at a friends wedding that prior summer. It was all easy, emailing back and forth. The hard part was organizing 14 women the day of my wedding, but we pulled it off. The make up and hair trial is a must. I have a lot of hair, and they were very patient working with me. I went back three times because I was so unsure of what style would look best. My hair looked so terrible I left crying. I should have known to find another location when I could not get a response via email. However, I figured I would just make life easy and use the online booking system to book the hair for myself, sister-in-law and mother for my wedding. When we showed up we were given a cold good morning. I was later told they don't typically open as early as I had booked, nor could they do all 3 as they only have 2 people on staff on Sunday's. This frustration with the booking error should have been addressed with their webmaster not their customer. I came in with a photo of my style to make it as easy as possible. It quickly became apparent the stylist could not do the small waterfall braid I wanted so I compromised to a simpler braid. However, I was shocked at the inability to curl my naturally curly hair. I have hair that turns to ringlets for even the most amateur of stylists. In under 30 minutes the curls had fallen stick straight. Even after the stylist attempted to curl my hair again I still had to leave and go to CVS around the corner to buy a curling iron so my friend could redo my hair and my mother's hair entirely in my hotel room. To add insult to injury Katie then uncharged us because I was a bride. My simple waterfall braid and curls (which were both falling out before we even left) cost more than an updo! Once upon a time, a Buffalo, NY native went against her better judgement and decided to have her wedding at the end of November. Although she was nervous about the potentially snowy weather, she figured "how bad could it be" and threw caution to the wind. That girl is me. My wedding took place in the midst of the 2014 Snowvember storm. Chances are you've probably heard of it! To say that this storm screwed up my careful planning would be an understatement. In sum, everything was f_cked. However, the important part of this story is that our friends, family, and vendors are all amazing people and we ended up having the most incredible and memorable day in spite of the insane-o storm. Why am I blabbering on about this in what's supposed to be a review for Groom Services Beauty Bar? ...Because this business pretty much saved my wedding! When my makeup artist was snowed in, Katie Ambrose, the mastermind behind Groom Services, was recommended to me and I contacted her in a frenzy the day before my wedding. Thankfully, this sweet angel sent from the heavens was able to step in and do my makeup, as well as my mother-in-law's, aunt's and mom's, at the very last minute. Initially, I was nervous to have a different makeup artist because I already had a trial and a plan with my original makeup artist. However, after looking through the Groom Services website and Facebook page, I knew I'd be in good hands. Katie has worked on countless brides and many celebrities throughout her career as a makeup artist. Not only is her portfolio very impressive, she's also incredibly kind and genuine. Even though there was technically a travel ban throughout all of Erie County, she still made her way from The Hotel Lafayette (where Groom Services is located) to the Statler the morning of my wedding. While my family, bridesmaids and I were all running around like chickens with our heads cut off, she calmly set up her makeup station and got right to work. Katie truly is an artist. The makeup that she did for my mother-in-law, aunt and mom was so beautiful. Because of the stress of the storm, none of them slept well the week leading up to the wedding. I'm sure each of them would tell you that they weren't looking or feeling their best. After sitting in Katie's makeup chair, no one would ever know it though! They were each given their own individual look that suited them wonderfully and they looked beautiful. By the time it was my turn to sit in the makeup chair, I was ready for a break. At that point in the morning, I wasn't sure if the food we ordered for our guests was going to arrive or if our photographers coming from Hamburg would be able to make it. I was burnt out, to say the least. I think it's safe to say that Katie knew how stressed out I was. Because of this, she not only played the role of the makeup artist, but also the role of therapist and friend. I was so grateful to be able to vent and relax for a little while. However, the best part was when I hopped out of the chair and took a look in the mirror. Holy crap, that girl can work wonders. I looked and felt beautiful. Without ever having a trial, it was exactly how I wanted to look on my wedding day. She just got it. I am forever grateful to her because of this. I was finally able to feel like a bride, rather than a panicked party planner. That was priceless. So, needless to say, I would 100% recommend Groom Services Beauty Bar to help you get ready for any special event. I've had my makeup done professionally before for other events and Katie blew those artists out of the water. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Cassie was an absolute rock star, doing a fantastic job on my hair for my wedding as well as great hair for my in-laws. She was super friendly, punctual and knew exactly what to do to make sure everyone was happy and satisfied with their hair. My in-laws are Egyptian with naturally very VERY curly hair and they were worried American straighteners wouldn't be up to the task. They were absolutely floored with how gorgeous and straight their hair stayed through the entire wedding and weekend even shopping, wing fest and niagara falls. After she left the bridal suite, I realized one false eyelash was becoming unglued and, having no adhesive handy, I couldn't fix it myself. I went down to Groom Service and explained my predicament and my disappointment in the makeup job to Tiffany. She not only fixed the eyelash, she offered to redo the cosmetics. Due to a lack of time, she simply softened the colors which brightened my eyes more to my satisfaction. She was extremely kind to me and made me feel a lot better about how I looked. Went to Groom Service for the first time today and had a wonderful experience. I got a blowout and full makeup done + lashes for a work event. Left the beauty/dry bar feeling like a million bucks. I got a blow out with Cate who gave me lots of volume and soft curls - my hair never looked better. Kassie did my makeup and delivered exactly what I requested - contouring and a strong red lip - and I was beyond pleased with the outcome. Honestly I was pretty underwhelmed by my experience. I asked for a blow out with glamorous waves and some volume on top. The way the salon is set up you don't really face a mirror or get to see what the stylist is doing, so by the time I realized that what I thought was the rough dry was in fact the stylist blow drying my hair straight (???) and putting a curling iron in my hair it was too late. Efforts were made to re blow my hair with some wave but I walked out with a straight blow out with some flip at the end-a look I could very easily achieve on my own and without the salon price tag. read more

I'm a professional in the wedding industry as well as a VIP member of Groom service-(the VIP service is where you pay monthly fees and get to use 2-4 services per month based on your subscription, which I HIGHLY recommend and I've already converted my sister to be a member!). I get my hair/nails or other service done at least twice a month here and every time I leave I feel rejuvenated! My hair blowout lasts 7-10 days (that's right, up to 10!), depending on what I do throughout the week. Their nail polish lasts at least a week without chipping, and their facials are amazing & super relaxing! As a professional in the wedding industry this is one of the few places we recommend to our couple's getting married... Every time we've photographed a couple that has worked with them, the makeup and hair is on point, modern meets classic, (no outdated hairstyles here!). We find that our brides never have to re-apply or fix their hair or makeup after going to Groom Service. Kassie is amazing. I went to her multiple times over the span of a couple months for all of my wedding events including my bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, and wedding. Not only was the staff, and especially Kassie, warm and inviting, the space was clean and bright. They make you feel comfortable and listen to you and any concerns you may have. I had SUCH a lovely time at Groom Service! I stumbled upon Groom Service while visiting Buffalo, NY for a wedding. First of all, the space is beautiful - very well designed, polished, and yet comfortable. I scheduled an updo and manicure/pedicure over the phone, but arrived early and was immediately welcomed by Katie who talked me into trying out the express gemstone facial. It was just what I needed! The facial was so relaxing and my skin responded beautifully to the Sjal products she used (I purchased the Sjal serum because of this -pricey! But totally worth it). Katie gave me a beautiful messy side-bun and Tiffany did a great job on my nails. It was incredibly convenient to get all these services done in one location and I was very satisfied with the end result. It was really fun to work with everyone on my look for the night.
