I've been bringing my dog to Golden Shears Grooming for a very long time--and have even referred family here--which is why this recent visit was so disappointing. ​Before the appointment, I spoke with a gentleman who assured me of the pricing and took down exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, the execution was the exact opposite of what we discussed: The Haircut: I specifically asked not to have her cut short. I had completely combed her out beforehand so she wouldn't be tangled, specifically to avoid a short shave, but all her fur was cut off anyway. Styling Requests: I asked for no rubber bands in her hair, but they were still put in. Pricing & Customer Service: I ended up paying more than the price I was originally quoted. When I expressed that I was unhappy with how the instructions were missed, there wasn't much acknowledgment or an offer to make it right for a loyal customer next time. If I plan on returning because of our long history here, going forward, I will be strictly insisting on speaking directly to the actual groomer before handing her over. My dog came home with CUTS and DRIED BLOOD on her. absolutely DO NOT GO HERE. i called the groomer once she came home and they kept saying she had a rash and not cuts (refer to picture because they are CERTAINLY cuts). did not apologize or seem concerned in any way. we've been coming here for years and they just lost a customer for how they handled the situation. my dog had come home with some small cuts from them before and my mom specifically said to be very careful cutting near her belly. this was the last straw. dogs should absolutely not come home with large gashes on their bellies after the groomer. i would've at least been more understanding if they told us upon pick up that they accidentally nicked her, but they didn't. just kept denying that they cut her even after i sent them pictures. i'd give 0/5 if i could. read more

I brought my Golden Retriever in after a very muddy weekend, and I honestly didn't think they could get him this clean. The groomers here are miracle workers! They handled his thick undercoat perfectly. He came out smelling amazing, his coat is incredibly soft, and his 'feathers' are trimmed to perfection. You can tell they actually love dogs here. Took one of my dogs here for the first time! They did such a great job on her. Her haircut is exactly for what I asked. They called me back within 20-30 mins of dropping her off to tell me she had fleas and can give flea treatment for 15$ extra. And I accepted. Glad they called to make sure it was ok! He has some matting on his chest from his harness and I asked them to cut that part short and leave the rest of his body with some length, and I specifically asked to leave his head as is - only a short trim. He was completely shorn like a sheep. Even his ears. He looks ridiculous. Despite giving the groomer a photo and specific instructions, they were completely ignored. It will take months for our dog to look like himself. My two children cried when they saw him. We are all in shock. I have been bringing my dog here for years but after today, I won't be back again. I have a small shelter dog who isn't a huge fan of kennels, so I have always asked for an appointment where he doesn't have to wait for long. Golden shears has always assured me that if I bring him in at the first slot at 8 am, the groomer will work on him first and he will be out typically in 2 hours as opposed to their usual 3.5-4 hour window. So, as usual, I made an appointment for him today at 8 am. When I arrived, they confirmed that he would be finished in 2 hours max. I arrived at 10 am, though curiously had not received a call yet that he was ready. In any event, I was prepared to pay and wait a short time until he was finished. I spoke to the gentleman at the front desk, who said it would be a few hours until my dog was ready. He was extremely rude when I inquired what the delay was about, reiterating angrily over and over again that there is a 3.5-4 hour window, and if I wanted the groomer to work on my dog as soon as he arrived, I would've had to pay an additional $20. I am familiar with paying extra for this express grooming treatment, but never at Golden Shears (in the past, I had even volunteered to pay extra for that, but they had assured me it wasn't necessary because being first pretty much guaranteed my dog would be worked on immediately). I mentioned that another front desk attendant had confirmed the 2 hour max time frame, and he scolded her rudely in front of me. I then asked the front desk man if they had even started working on my dog, and he insisted they had. I asked if it took 3.5 hours to groom a dog, and he said yes (which I know not to be true). He stormed off and then returned, saying the groomer had "started" on my dog and he'd be ready in 45 minutes. I said "started???" He corrected himself and insisted the groomer had been working on my dog the entire time (unlikely). Meanwhile, during this conversation, a groomer (who I think was the one who was supposed to be working on my dog) came out and delivered another dog to its owner. They had arrived 1 minute before I had. I get a call within 30 minutes that my dog is ready. It is clear they had just barely started working on him when I arrived, if at all. My guess is that they double booked the groomer and did not want to admit it. His ears and tail are virtually untouched (see photos). I just trimmed them myself. FYI - lying profusely when you have made a mistake is not going to cut it. Before we made this appointment, I had read the recent reviews about the rude front desk staff and decided to give this place another shot because we had been coming here for so long. A word of caution to everyone: believe the reviews and take your business elsewhere. read more

I've been bringing my golden retriever here for 2 years now, I used to absolutely love this place. My dog is a rescue and would shake and try to run away when I took him to appointments but he quickly warmed up to the place and seemed to really like the people. However lately I've become increasingly disappointed by the service he's received. The first time I was disappointed was a year ago when I requested a bath & hair cut - when I saw picked him up he was shaved short (like a Labrador). I said it was fine bc it was summertime and at least they kept his tail long. However, multiple times they've thinned his tail too much and I've noted that I prefer his tail bushy. I assumed they would put this into his profile. A few months ago I brought him in for a bath & tidy but found his nails curled under when I picked him up - they obviously did not file them. So I called an took him back a week later, but they made me pay extra for this service - even though it was clear that he was supposed to have his mail filed in his tidy appointment. Today I had an appointment for a bath & tidy + I requested trim areas around the butt and front legs. When I picked him up they had thinned his tail and not trimmed any areas I requested. When I made the appt they scheduled him with another groomer than the previous time - I didn't mind bc I assume all their groomers are decent. They took him back for yet another groomer to trim the areas requested but still did not do a good job. It's clear that there is a lack of communication between the front desk & groomers, or the groomers are not following notes given by pet parents. I assumed they would keep a profile on each pet & after 2 years I expect them to know my preferences, but this is not the case. I will be looking for another groomer to get his haircuts from. For now I may still use Golden Shears for his baths after beach days or muddy hikes. However I do not trust them to give him a good cut anymore. read more

By far the best pet grooming experience I've had. I took my dog Bruno for a hair cut and bath and right from the start my experience was great. The lady in the front desk (I didn't catch her name ) was really nice and helpful, I even got to meet the some of the groomers. The staff there in back seemed they really enjoyed their job and most importantly the dogs there looked comfortable and calm, as to where with other grooming salons one might hear barking wining and crying from the dogs. They were very gentle with Bruno especially since he had stitches taken off, they really took good care of him and made him fee comfortable. If I could rate this place ZERO stars , I sure would. It's been exactly a week ago when we took my dog to get his usual grooming with Carmen. When I picked him up he was instantly acting completely different as I was paying I noticed he wanted to get out the door fast. When we got inside my car he immediately started whining and pawing his left eye and that's when I quickly carried him to see what was going on and noticed his eye was completely SHUT AND SWOLLEN!! He wouldn't stop whining and continued to scratch it. I immediately got down the car and went straight into the grooming salon to get answers on why my dog had a swollen and shut eye!! Right when I brought it up to their attention they acted as if they did not see anything wrong with his eye !! which was so unbelievable because as shown in the pictures you can see how his eye was obviously hurt !! The First photo is how i picked him but but his eye was "fine" right Carmen ?? Carmen then proceeded to come at me very rude and aggressively constantly waving her finger at me when I was just there in concern for my dog just as anyone else would be !! Come on is it not common sense if you see YOUR dog hurt ??!! She started pointing out in a very rude tone that my dog has tried to bite her "many times" YET she NEVER brought this up to our attention. She was looking at him and claiming my dog had ALLERGIES!! and kept playing it off saying nothing was wrong with him she then proceeded into asking her staff if they saw anything wrong with him and her immediately stating " nothing right ??" before letting them answer. My dog has been in my life for over 6 years and he never had any allergie issues which I clearly stated to her. She offered me a refund but gave me NO ANSWERS what so ever on why my dog had a swollen and shut eye besides her saying "Allergies" I told her I was taking my dog to the vet immediately TO GET ANSWERS since she was not providing anything to me. As I told her i was taking him to the vet she then stated that "whatever the Vet tells you I can assure nothing of that happened here" ??? Fast forward to the SAME DAY vet visit, our veterinarian confirmed he had an CORNEAL ULCER due to trauma specifying that it was due to excessive shampoo OR a sharp object!! but here she was claiming it was " ALLERGIES" My dog had to get his eye numbed in order for the pain to go down along with another shot AND topical ointment for us to do at home and a 10 days follow up. My dog did not sleep or nor was he comfortable the first few days including the same night he stayed up whining and it was extremely hearth breaking. She did cover the vet bill which was the least she could of done after causing all this inconvenience and pain to my dog but her reason to WHY SHE WAS COVERING THE VET BILL, was because " we had mutual friends ". SO UNBELIEVABLE I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. they are rude and so unprofessional!! SHE NEVER ONCE APOLOGIZED OR OWNED UP TO HER MISTAKE!! Oh and mind you, when we went back to tell her what the vet said along with the vet bill she proceeded to walk to the back and had HER EMPLOYEE bring out the check and never faced us HA ! I don't know what has happened to this place. I'm guessing they have new groomers there who do not check with your pet's files before they take a razor to your animal. I have been bring my malti-poo here for 4 years and have always loved the job they did with her... Until this last time. I brought her in for a wash & tidy, and when I picked her up, they had completely shaved off her long ponytail hair on top of her head. She wasn't even supposed to be getting a cut! She looks like she has a mullet because her head hair is even shorter than the rest of her hair covering her body. Do these people not have eyes? It looks terrible and completely erased a year of growing out her hair in the blink of an eye. Also, they called me to pick her up and she wasn't even ready when I showed up for her. AND... I found a flea on her later that day. She did not have fleas before her visit to this salon. Look elsewhere people. Or wash your pet yourself; it's safer than leaving her here. read more
