Came here for a lunch one day, food was overpriced, service slow, and food was average at best.

As a single business traveler I often find it difficult if not a little intimidating to go to…read morerestaurants alone resulting in many nights of room service and two minute noodles. But after visiting Amor Mexico on a particularly lonely night, I am very happy to report that the warm and welcoming staff (not to mention the yummy food and cosy atmosphere) prompted a return visit a week later. And although the staff were different, the way they made me feel genuinely welcome and better still, appreciated for my choice to dine with them, was exactly the same as the first time. The restaurant was quite busy the first night and apart from the volume of the two large tables celebrating birthdays (they weren't that loud - I'm just a grumpy old man!) the service was equally as wonderful as that of the second occasion when there were only 4 or 5 tables of two dining. I ordered different drinks and meals each time and everything was delicious and reasonably generous in size adding good value for money to the list of positives of this place. If you or you and your friends/family are ever in Forest Hill - or within 20kms of Forest Hill - and feel like some yummy Mexican and great hospitality, drop in to Amor Mexico. PS. I talked with the owner on my second visit and was informed it has been a Mexican restaurant for 30 years and hasn't changed hands on the last 15 - which I guess is testimony to my very positive review.

Great service, nachos with beef are our family favourite. Amy the owner is very friendly and always…read moresmiling

This place is the Sizzlers of Italian dining. It's really just not that good. You can't afford to…read morehave a not-that-good restauarant in this area. Well, I certainly couldn't. And people must like the place, because there's usually a few people in there. I'd call it "family friendly". This has two meanings. The first is that you can take the kids, and they'll probably enjoy it, and it isn't going to cost the earth. The second is that if you don't have kids, you can be nearly guaranteed that there'll be at least one screaming little arsehole whose parents just don't have the will to tell the little shit to shut up and stop annoying the other customers. The food is a bit meh at best, but the worst doesn't seem to be too bad. Serving sizes are generous, and service is okayish most of the time.

Sofia's is a restaurant of its own genre. It's the epitome of cheap casual family dining…read more Sofia's is an Italian restaurant that has come to fame thanks to its more than generous serving sizes. A large pasta could feed 4 people, and their gelati is piled so high its gravity defying. This burwood franchise is by no means a 'nice' restaurant. It's not an impressive place to be taking anyone of importance (unless of course you are deliberately showing them the place). It is a very casual family dining destination, there are often children seen running around in their school uniforms; or large groups of friends enjoying the budget meal. Prices and serving sizes aside, the food here is relatively good. Of course it's not comparable to a quality Italian restaurant, but the food is tasty nonetheless. Their pizzas are also great value for money as once again, they are huge and packed full of toppings (no scarce pepperoni slices here). My favorites from Sofia include their garlic bread (with cheese), this is served on a thick and light pizza base infused with garlic and herbs. The chicken kiev is also a winner in my books as I love a creamy white sauce-and lots of it too! Majority of their pastas are all good too, the seafood salad is great value thanks to the ridiculous amounts of prawns provided. Overall, this is a great place to get a filling (with leftovers for the next 2 days) meal at a fantastic price. The food is comforting and the place is a casual no frills kind of setting. Make sure you save some room for their gelati, if you haven't had it before, get it with all the flavors. Just remember to save some stomach space for it!

Food is now of quality. The yum cha dim sums are now wheeled around and also avail. at the back. The duck is crispy and flavoursome. Same with the roast pork. Food is not cold and plentiful. Not like the old days. The custard egg tarts and especially the durian puffs!! worth a return visit. 3 stars as I'm still skeptical.. if it's the same management don't expect this to continue!

If you love Asian food (and lots of it), then this is your perfect place…read more Located on the corner of Springvale Rd and Burwood Hwy this place is extremely accessible and easy to find (thanks to being on top of a hill and it's huge sign). China Bar Signature is a buffet of Asian cuisines. They have towers of Yum Cha style dumplings, soups, rice, sushi, seafood, traditional meat dishes, duck, Asian flavored ice creams/desserts and much much more. There is freshly cooked food constantly pouring out of the kitchen and into the serving trays as this place becomes over popular and busy at night. The Yum Cha dumplings are always a hit and people can be seen walking back to their tables with 5 or so bamboo steamers stacked up. Don't worry; the kitchen works hard so if they are out of something, it'll probably be back within a few minuets. The food here is tasty and satisfying, but like most buffets the quality isn't the best out there. I definitely would still suggest coming here at least once- just to try it out. The atmosphere is very lively and loud thanks to the hoards people. When I came I found the table service to be very quick...but too quick, they were trying to take away my plate before I had even finished it (this happened a few times). The only other downfall is the size of the plates. They were saucers rather than plates; you could hardly fit food on it, which meant multiple trips to the stations. The prices here are around $50ish at night, and only $30 for lunch (but seafood, sashimi and peking duck are only available for dinner).
