Last Fall, I needed work down to level some land to have a backyard shed installed. I went with Groundhog on that project and I was very pleased with the overall experience. Six months later I needed a full front walkway removed and reinstalled. Thinking that Groundhog had performed so well for me on the first project, I would entrust them with this work. As great as they were the first time, Groundhog was even better this time! At each phase of the project, I had clear, timeley, concise communication. I will admit, I am a nervous Nellie and have lots of questions and a need for constant assurance. I never once had to wait more than a few hours for a reply, whether by email, phone, or in person, to all of my questions and requests - and believe you me, there were many. Todd (the owner) was very good when quoting out the work. Amanda and Scott (scheduling) were flexible and quite realistic about timelines. Sean managed the project from start to back seamlessly. He was on site often checking on progress and making sure I was satisfied. Even when supplies were delivered, and I asked for some last minute changes, there was never any sense of hesitation or frustration. Sean even followed up with me on some things after the project was done and paid for to make sure I had everything I needed. If he said it once, he said a million times "We just want you to be happy." Those weren't hollow words. The landscaping crew that came in afterwards to dress up the surrounding area (Andrew, Jeff and Parker) could not have been nicer and willing to help me understand how to adjust my irrigation to acclimate to the new terrain. They were literally on hands and knees patching parts of my driveway to make sure the walkway transitioned perfectly. But let me share that the stars of the show were Marcel and Jases. These two gentlemen were the people who designed and assembled the walkway. I cannot begin to express how amazing they were. They were careful, thoughtful, willing to listen and answer questions, to provide expert advice and suggestions, and so hard working. Listen, I know when you contract for a walkway you expect ... a walkway. Sounds simple, right? But after watching these two, I understood how building the walkway was a combination of engineering, patience, and art. I could not be more convinced of the strength and durability, seeing how they prepared each layer. But it's the manner in which they brought my vision to life, how they created a beautiful entranceway to my home. If you are fortunate to have these gentlemen working on your hardscape project, you will be quite happy. Trust me. Look, I get excited over pride and quality of craftsmanship. I also appreciate good value and outstanding customer service. When I look at my walkway, I don't just feel good about the final product. Grounghog Landscaping are not landscapers. They will simply cut the grass and trim ocassionally when requested and hire anyone. They tore up the walkways and curbs at a large complex in town and have not repaired to date the curbs nor have they even cleaned up the asphalt pieces scattered everywhere. (They used the plow to pull back snow vs. using a commercial plow for walkways and destroyed the walkways/curbs.) They plowed larger than normal landscape rocks over across the complex during the winter even after using snow markers. They weed only when told to do so. This is contracted complex. I highly do not recommend using them for commercial property. read more

Groundhog reset our flagstone patio in 2024 for a lot of money - $12,000 - and did not properly treat the grout. Consequently much of the grout has washed out and there are lose stones. We have tried to contact them, four times last year they promised to come and redo their work and nothing was ever done. read more

Spent over 100k with them in 2023. TLDR: hardscape work was amazing, but bad experience with irrigation and planting beds. They don't stand by the quality of their work, will nickel and dime you, and customer service is horrible. Irrigation leaked from day 1. We complained 3 times in 2023. A tech came 3 times and tightened a clamp each time and told us it was not leaking. When they came to blow out for the winter the irrigation manager told me he identified a valve that was blowing air and he felt it was a crack or defect with the valve. Several plants - probably 8-10 of them, started to die in the fall. He assured me he would add notes to the account and fix everything in the spring, replace the dying plants, and add new mulch. Spring arrived, no one came. A tech showed up to reopen and test after winter. They never put notes on my account and over the winter the irrigation manager was fired. I explained everything, the tech found the same leaking valve and tightened the clamp again despite me telling him the manager said it needed to be replaced. During the visit the tech changed my watering schedule to increase the water by 4x. They did NOT tell me - now the struggling plants were totally dead due to the additional overwatering. I called the owner and complained - he said he'd never heard we had a problem and acted as if his company is not responsible just because he wasn't personally aware. He promised to handle it himself, but didn't show up. Another week later he sent someone different from the office, they brought a tech and fixed some valves that were stuck due to sediment (this part was no one's fault and would not have mattered given the 4x overwatering schedule they set) and told me the watering schedule was very wrong (as if I set it myself) - he didn't know his own tech set the schedule. They removed the schedule. Then they CHARGED $450 for the visit and did NOT replace any plants or mulch. Another couple weeks go by a new batch of plants stated to die. I found that a 100 sq ft area was no longer getting water b/c when they "fixed" things the last time they kinked an irrigation line. I hired an irrigation company to come take a look. This is their feedback: * the kink was easy to fix * there are too many drip nozzles for the area (by a large margin) * for example, there are drip tubes all over the bed even in places that never had a plant * some of the plants require more or less water depending on the location and type of plant - but they used the same 2gpm drips on every single plant from trees to tiny herbs - so some very small ones are dying due to overwater, and some big ones are struggling due to underwater * some of the plants were stuck in ledge with no soil - of course they will die - no one told us nor did anyone ask if we should put them in a different place or bring in more soil * one entire planting bed is at the bottom of a hill with grass and other beds with irrigation - all irrigation runoff ends up in the same planting bed, and that bed was put over hard-packed clay which is over ledge - there is zero drainage for plants, if you pull out a dead plant there is a hole filled with water that never drains - this area should have had crushed stone underneath with planting soil on top to let the bed drain We're going to do some of this ourselves and hire another company to fix the rest. The owner did offer to replace the plants "even though it's not their fault". He continues to act like he's not responsible just because he wasn't aware from the beginning - almost like "you never told me, it's too late now!". Now this last thing is just a nit but reflective of their customer service - we had mulch blown in the spring. They missed 3 spots. We called and they said someone would come out to fix. We reminded them twice via text. We reminded them when they were here to look at the irrigation and they said "I put in a ticket, no idea why they never came" and did nothing else about it. So going into October we still have bare spots with no mulch! read more

We are a small, 16 unit free standing condo complex and we hired Groundhog after a less than satisfactory experience with our previous contractor. Groundhog does all of our summer maintenance as well as our plowing in the winter. Groundhog Turf Care had a lawn machine leak gasoline all over the back of my lawn. They weeks after the incident, they came out to fix my lawn. These pictures are eight weeks later. They keep charging me for their lawn service. I would pay if my lawn was fixed, but it is not. When I call their office to complain they insist they have fixed my lawn. And demand that I pay for their service. Horrible company only concerned about money. Not customer service. Hired Groundhog to do a fall cleanup at my new home in Nashua. I was in NY when the work was done. Came home the next day and the lawn looked EXACTLY the same as when I left. These pictures are all AFTER they performed their "fall cleanup." Was planning to hire them for my regular lawn work but will definitely never be using them again. Just had Groundhog come out to evaluate my sprinkler system. Yes, I know, it's late in the season but we have had so much rain in NH this season! Now the heat wave begins...and, luckily they had an appointment available that I could slide into within the week. Ray arrived promptly at the 7:15AM scheduled appointment time. He was finished in less than 2 hours, would have been less than that if his co-worker didn't borrow his much needed shovel. LOL Was nice to see a familiar face as he had installed the original system ~ 10 years ago. He accessed, readjusted / replaced heads and did some minor brush maintenance needed for the system to effectively cover the needed areas. He also evaluated the zone coverage and noticed that one zone was no longer needed since the removal of a pool several years ago. He just "killed two birds with one stone", 1) saved me a little money by turning off that zone and 2) saving water for the environment. Rock on Ray! He then programmed the system to be efficient and only water on my odd days at the preferred watering time of day (late evening). Ray is really experienced and really treats your property like his own. Unfortunately, we switched to another person to save some money for several years, but he actually did more harm than good, and charged us for work he did not do. This was all explained in detail by Ray so I understood the correct way of doing things and how I was previously taken advantage of. Lesson learned the hard way, through the wallet! All that being stated, I am so glad to have Groundhog back in my life! Their pricing is fair and might be more expensive in some cases, but you really do get what you pay for. Ray is dependable, upfront, provides suggestions and clear expectations, but most of all is HONEST! BTW~ I have now also added some additional landscaping needs as well for the year. It took some time, (nothing bad but it seemed that they were too busy to take care of it right away), but they made good on warranteed work, and the front yard is shaping up. However our neighbor did and I was horrified to watch worker come into our yard and deficate in our yard I thought they were dumping grass clippings so I watched worker come into our yard and was horrified to see him drop his pants I went outside and confronted worker who at first lied then tried to indicate it was my problem The company NEVER contacted us I eventually called them weeks later and left a message with no response so I tried again This time I did get someone who I think was the office manager She said they were aware but could not find our name (interesting as we get many cold calls from them) She did apologize and wanted to personally send gift cards to a restaurant Well that was over 4 weeks ago Gifts cards certainly don't fix a company's inability to simply reach out and made a phone call I would NEVER recommend this company read more

They clearly don't actually care about their customers! I called for landscaping/planting services, and they set up an appointment with me. But they didn't show up - they DID call about 10 minutes after the appointment window asking to reschedule...which we did. They didn't show up for the second one either. When I called to find out when they'd be here, they said they decided they were too busy to take on any more work, so they wouldn't be out. So, I've wasted two work mornings waiting for them, and they didn't have the courtesy to call to let me know they didn't actually want the job? Nice. This is the worst company I have dealt with for fertilization . They signed me up for a yearly contract that I agreed too . I paid with my credit card to receive a 10 % discount for the year . They never charged my credit card and charged me full price every time they came out . I called the customer service several times and was told the office manager would call me but she never did . We hired Groundhog Landscaping to clean up our property and preparing it for new lawn. They were supposed to smooth a steep slope between two uneven sites by filling out with dirt. Instead of that, they dumped the dirt on top of a perfectly good area of the grass without leveling the two sides. They did a mediocre job in cleaning the rest of property and now I have look into hiring someone else to finish the job. read more

I always hear bad things about landscaping companies, including groundhog and this was the first year I ever used one. All I can say us they are doing my lawn fertilizer and I couldn't be happier, even if I did it myself. The guys doing the actual service (steve?) always calls ahead and showed up on time each time so far. He has pointed out numerous problems he saw including black wart on my plum trees. Unfortunately it was too late for those to be saved but if I had used them last year I wouldn't have lost those two 15 foot trees. Now don't get me wrong, they are a business and do try and sell me other stuff now and then, things that are questionable if needed etc, but the guy doing the lawn knows his job well and is as laid back as they come. Groundhog totally redid my yard including the design, retaining wall, stairs, brick walk way , lighting, lawn and garden. They provided the best design at a fair price and then executed right on time despite the spring thaw and rain. The following winter when one of the shrubs failed to survive, they replaced it free of charge. It's been 3 years and now I'm adding some green space and the only company I called to work on the project is Groundhog, because I know they will deliver. This company recently redid my neighbors lawn. Now I'm a new homeowner so I don't have a great lawn its a work in progress. But they ruined my backyard. They left the neighbors yard a dirt mess for days which ran because of rain and their equipment all over my newly seeded grass. Emailed them to get the lawn mowed. 2 guys came out to look at the property. We walked it. They priced it to mow. The said I should get lime..ok. Two days later someone called to set up time to mow. I did not return phone call because of weekend...they called again on Monday. I called the number on my cell phone. Said we were ready to start. I needed mulch for my mulch beds, so I called to have it sprayed it and was told the minimum is 5yds for $330. I said cool spray it thick and I'll pay for the 5yds. They immediately charged me for half as a down payment and said they'd be out in 1-2 weeks. 3 weeks later I called them to inquire, they did not return my call for another week. 4 weeks after I called and prepped my mulch beds they finally showed up at 7am in the morning. One guy's shirt had so many holes it in it was barely a shirt anymore and the other guy was more concerned with his big vape contraption than doing his job, he never put it down. I went out and explained I paid for 5yds and to spray it thick since I was switching from black mulch to red. After they left I noticed they ran over 3 stakes I put in the corner of my driveway to prevent trucks from running over my lawn. Vape guy did an awful job blowing the mulch back into the mulch beds. And holey shirt guy sprayed such a light coating of mulch that every time a chipmunk runs across it you can see the previous black mulch. I will never do business with this company again. Used these guys for a project over 10g. They blew the start day by 30 days after they already had 1/3 of my money. I had to call, call to get them out. They blew the final deadline by 3 days. Came to me and I had to order more material after a few days in. They got me over the barrel. What am i supposed to do ? So they blew the estimate and had to order almost a grand more material!!! Manager Dave is terrible. He will tell you what you want to hear. The crew lead by Sean were respectable and honest! I would hire those guys any day, but not the company they make money for. It's a shame that their management is absolutely crooked!! I see their vehicles all over and I expected to be treated fairly! In the end they double charged my debit card for the final third. I had to call to take it off. Had to ask numerous times for an itemized bill!! And pay extra for hydro seeding lawn they tore up. A year later it's all thick clover weeds! We used Groundhog last year for the first and last time. They destroyed our lawn in the spring, and we spent the rest of the year looking at huge burned strips and circles. We were told that the employee had fertilized incorrectly and that he had been fired, but they never once offered to reimburse us in any way, and they never repaired the lawn. They insisted the contract be paid, and we will never, ever use them again. We hoped this spring would show some improvement, but evidently the roots were burned completely. The performance of Ground Hog in clearing snow at the Whispering Winds Condominium during the last four weeks has been worse than poor. The back access to our units is completely blocked all they did was shovel enough so we could open the door. No pathway across the deck with snow covered back stairs. The front steps have not been cleared of ice and are untreated Elderly residents only safe means of egress is through an .electrically operated garage door, useless in an emergency. The roads have not been properly cleared for safe driving and emergency access. This company is bad news do not do business with them. read more

Groundhog is terrible!!!! I hired them for fertilization services and they ruined my new sod. There hosed leaked when they did the 1st reatment and burnt huge spots all over my lawn like a big picture frame, the burned area is around 300 sq ft. When I complained they all came out and said it would grow back 3 months later it hasn't..... they stitched the area which is basically putting grass seed in the ground... didn't help... in Novemebr they said they would fix it in the spring. I cancelled the service and the girl said they wouldnt fix it..... 1 week later after I cancelled they called to see if I wanted my lawn and fertilization service and I went off on the sales guy.. they put the GM on and he said they would come and fix it at the end of April.... Guess what they never showed up so I had to fixed it myself and now I am taking them to small claims court... Bad company..... poor service..... read more
