I recently closed on a new home and worked with Bobby Bashwiner at Group One Mortgage for the loan. Bobby and his team made the entire process painless. I met with Bobby on a Saturday morning which is important because I'm gone all week, and the application took maybe 20 minutes to complete. From there Andrea and Christine took over and communicated with me every step of the way through closing. The only surprise during the entire process was when a few days before closing Bobby called to let me know he was able to secure a rate that was lower than I had locked in, saving me tens of thousands of dollars in interest over the life of the loan. If I could give this company zero stars I would. One of the worst experiences working with them. We missed our closing with no notification from them that they did have the paper work done on time. We also had zero communication from them. No one ever wanted to answer the phone and when they finally did it was always rude and hostile. I called seeking questions about our second closing date and was transferred to Susan who spoke extremely poorly to me as well as hung up on me mid question. I can't imagine if I behaved this way at my job. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. read more

Bobby and Steve did a great job! Another company didn't understand that a self employed person can use one year tax returns if the business is over 5 years old. But Bobby and Steve did. So i moved my loan over to Group One from another company a few days after approval. There pre approval letters was strong as well which helps with making a deal with the seller. Both of them were on the ball and got things closed a WEEK early even when facing the hurricane! I would definitely recommend these guys! Very accessible and recommended by a client of mine who told me they were the best and they ARE! Beware! Charged for multiple credit checks and and overpriced appraisal. Only to be turned down after the charges. Went to local bank and got loan in 4 weeks. this place is a nightmare. beware of multiple charges and monthly transferring of your mortgage. this lender uses obscured facts to charge higher interest rates. this lender also has transfered my mortgage 6 times in 7 months. bryant ruiz has never answered a call from us. he would occasionally send a text. from closing, until this date, bryant has not responded once. we were also charge for multiple credit check and an extremely overpriced appraisal. the loan wasn't turned down however we were given 1 hour to accept their interest rate.... also we had to close within 3 weeks. read more

Horrible horrible treatment. Group one was recommended by my realtor- never again. It started out great. We have an 800 credit score and thought it would be easy to get a mortgage. The first meeting was cordial and I thought it would continue. We submitted all of the documents and then the problems started. They did not scan all of the documents and then wanted us to locate the missing ones. One of the processors kept questioning my tax return schedule A for business expenses. This has nothing to do with getting a mortgage. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, it did. They gave me an estimate of closing costs and I made sure the money was in the bank. A few days before closing they demanded that I show $10, 000 ABOVE what was required to close. I asked multiple times for an explanation. I never got one. Our closing was scheduled for Monday. I asked and asked for a closing statement and never got a response. On Friday afternoon, at 4 PM I told Group One and the title company that we would not close on Monday. Miraculously, our statement appeared in an hour. Right after closing, Jim Douglas sent me the nastiest, most unprofessional email I have ever received. He called me ignorant and said "Have a nice life." I have been in public/customer service my entire life and can't imagine insulting a customer like that. We paid full price for the product and do not deserve to be treated like that. Beware of this company!! read more

Unfortunately I could not obtain a mortgage on my own so my father had to get it in his name. This company was recommended by a co-worker. From day one Alex Sanchez seemed pretty decent and told us we would be able to close within a month. We found a private seller so a deal was struck up quick and no real estate agents were involved. Alex sent my father the contract for the mortgage and told him he NEEDS to get it back by the end of the day to review to and submit if we wanted to keep the month closing time. My father rushed to get everything signed and scanned back to him (at a cost to him). Of course there was additional information needed so the weeks following the submission were filled with "we still need this, and that". A week prior to the closing my father spoke with Alex and said "I am buying a ticket from NJ to come down for the closing, everything is looking good correct"? Alex stated everything was on track. This is where the fun began. The week of the closing Alex called and said we wouldn't make the closing date. My father had already paid for airfare as well as hotel stay. For the next two weeks, we were constantly told, we still need this or we can't read this document. Well I was out of a place to live for 2 weeks, so I stayed in hotels and with friends. The seller was also ready to pull out of the deal. I could go on and on regarding the poor treatment and lack of follow up provided by Group One Mortgage. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!
