The first session, I asked her how would like to work, her methodology and modality. She answered nothing, explained nothing. Instead she focused on my payment, and overcharged my co-payment until she confirmed my insurance later. I understand. 2. Another session. I paid her cash right after, yet she still requested fee through my Venmo. I emailed her that I have already paid, then she simply answered: "You're totally right." I understand. 3. I had an emergency on my way to her office. My car tire got flatten. I emailed her about the emergency. She charged the whole session fee out of my own pocket, which I understand. But she could have explained and provided other options for me to make up for the session through phone or email. Instead, she accused me of not knowing how therapy payment works, and stating that she could have given the spot to other clients. But the truth is, this is the first time I ever missed a session. And I made the appointment the day before, after she came back from travel, and there was no other client to take the spot. And she knew I'm a student and on student insurance. Again, I respect her time and I understand. 4. The most ridiculous is the last session. I told her what I wanted to talk about and I needed one more session to finish therapy with her. She finally explained her modality to me that she only worked with long-term clients, and thus refused to provide further service. She literally let me go, ignoring my goal and my need for this last session. However, she's still charging my insurance for this session. She wasted me almost two hours, from preparation, driving, parking, paying the parking fee, etc. I could have spent that time on my study, work, or with my family and friends. She neither cared or respected me, but "tricking" me to her office so she can bill my insurance. I decided to go to therapy because one of my best friends who works in medical field suggests that everyone should have a therapist to achieve better emotional balance and happiness. I didn't expect to receive such negativity and indifference. I'm glad and grateful that I found another therapist who I decided to go to and have a long-term relationship with after I felt uncomfortable with Mahshid.

When my therapist insisted I change…read morepsychiatrists from my last one to Mizani, I was reluctant because I thought "all psychiatrists kinda suck, I might as well deal with the one I have because it doesn't get much better." I have dealt with quite a few psychiatrists in my time, including at treatment centers; and all but her have supported this idea I had that psychiatrists have no emotional intelligence, but just a purely clinical view of the human brain and don't view patients as people to listen to but subjects to examine and push drugs on, always thinking they know better and saying insensitive things to invalidate my real struggles. But not her. She LISTENS. God, I have never met a psychiatrist who listens and really LISTENS like her. She cares what you have to say and takes everything you say seriously and into account before all of her carefully thought out decisions. She makes me feel seen, respected, taken seriously, cared for, and listened to. That's a rare find. And she really knows what she's talking about; her knowledge of psych and medication is very impressive beyond expectations. As soon as I started seeing her, she was able to immediately help what was wrong with my meds and change things around to the right mix. She always lays out multiple options (some containing adding meds, but always presenting alternatives and respecting any apprehension to meds), and takes the time to listen and weigh things out to whatever you feel is best for yourself. She helped refer me to mental health treatment in August when my depression was at its worst, and though the treatment was incredible, the psychiatrist there just couldn't compare. It reminded me of how lucky I am to have Dr Mizani, the best of the best. I have depression, anxiety, and a past of an eating disorder and she has been nothing but helpful and wise. These problems are big in my life but she has kept them under control like no other, and when they get less manageable, she finds the right solutions (like when she strongly encouraged me to go to treatment and provided those resources). Finding mental health professionals who know how to handle eating disorders and don't say totally triggering and incorrect things about them is surprisingly difficult, but she is one of the few who knows what she's doing and doesn't say triggering things. If you're struggling with your mental health and like me have fear around psychiatrists and their lack of emotional intelligence, please give Dr Mizani a try. She's different. She's gold.

She heard me out and used her expertise to see patterns in my actions and offered me ways to approach concerns I had differently.
