They may be fine, but you have to actually get them to honor your appointment first. Went through literal weeks of back and forth via email with the office trying to set an appointment before I finally just called and set one (except setting an appointment with the office doesn't mean you actually have one, found that out the hard way later). At this point, when they hadn't responded for three business days after asking me send all of my personal info via email, I definitely thought I was being scammed but I naively proceeded because, you know, this is a medically necessary thing. After you're given an appointment date and time and instructions on submitting insurance, you then get to hope that someone in the office checks to confirm you submitted your paperwork- I guess my bad for thinking that's something an office administrator would do?- and makes your appointment OFFICIAL, because until that point it apparently is just a magic number that means nothing. Because if the office thinks you haven't submitted your paperwork they won't tell you, they'll just give your appointment to someone else, which you won't find out about until you follow up the day of your appointment asking how the doctor will contact you since you never received a link for a video call or an address for in-person visits. So hooray for me, I took the morning off for this and now I have no appointment. If you want to work with these people, hopefully you have a lot of time to waste getting started! For the business, maybe try an appointments portal if this is something your office admin can't handle properly now that you know this is an issue. read more

It is certainly not one's wish to require the services of a psychiatrist, but I cannot express my gratitude to Dr. Bowman for his knowledge and compassion. I was given a referral list of psychiatric doctors by a therapist, and Dr. Bowman was the most highly recommended. Mental health care is not inexpensive, but I can assure you that you would be hard-pressed to find a more outstanding provider. His gentle demeanor, clinical research background, and innovative approach to practice are unparalleled. After dealing with the loss of a loved one to violence, I thought my life was over. Dr. Bowman has given me support without judgment, and I don't know if I would be here writing this if not for him. If you find yourself in the difficult position of requiring a mental health physician, I urge you to see Dr. Bowman. He, along with his wonderful assistant, Lidia, have helped to restore my faith in humanity. And @Robin B, I presume you are not in the medical field. If you were, you would understand why "no show" fees are necessary. These are time slots that could be filled by other patients who are desperately trying to get one of the limited available appointments. Why is this concept so baffling to you? The fees do not apply if you give 24-hour notice, and only someone with a profound sense of entitlement would not take responsibility for their own failure to show common courtesy. By the way, hair stylists often have the same policy, and anyone who believes that accountability is a moral imperative understands that this is fair and reasonable practice. And regarding your comments about lack of timeliness, you must remember that these doctors are dealing with people in crisis. Things do not always run smoothly, so please display some empathy for your fellow humans who are suffering (as you may be), and be cognizant that you are fortunate enough to have secured appointments with this exceptional medical professional read more

This review is for billing who cannot seem to get it right! Dr. Calip was perfectly fine...but I had much better (and cheaper) in NYC. After the appointment (August 2017) I saw they mistakenly overcharged me (because they want your credit card to put on file and just charge what they felt like, I guess) So I sent an email explaining where they went wrong and how I was upset as I felt they were being dishonest (they did this weird bait n' switch tactic of multiple appointments to get to the actual doc for my prescriptions). Next day they called me and refunded me. Ok, great, problem solved, I was already turned off and wouldn't be back but at least they fixed it. Fast forward a year (around August 2018) - I get a bill in the mail. For that same appointment. I haven't been back since. I call them and have to haggle back and forth, until finally they give in and say fine, we will remove the charges. Ok, now I'm really turned off but at least it's fixed.... Not so fast. today (October 17, 2018) I get another bill for the same appointment. BILLING, please get your act together and stop charging me! It is SO disheartening that a company would take advantage of sick people. Like it's not hard enough for people to take the first step to see someone for mental help...just terrible. read more

I've been contemplating writing a review of my psychiatrist and his office (I also see my therapist here) but realized a few things: 1) When I needed a good psychiatrist, I went through a lot of bad ones before I was recommended to Dr. Bowman. 2) Anyone that knows me knows I have massive anxiety issues et al, so it isn't a big deal. Dr. Bowman is a first rate physician. I've been to over 6 different psychiatrists and he is the only one I have felt 100% comfortable with. He is completely knowledgeable about psychiatric issues and has been there for me during some difficult times. I've had psychiatrists that refuse to be on call (if something happens, they figure the hospital will call them... seriously) and he and his staff are available when you need them. He's not interested in putting you on so many drugs that you can't function. He's very cautious about looking into your entire medical history, and won't make any drastic changes to your meds. After an initial hour long consultation, I go back for appointments as I need to based on my anxiety (three months if everything is okay, less than that if I need to.) I see Dr. Holloman for therapy in the office. She is kind and caring, honest, and again, knows her stuff. I've spoken to one or two patients in the waiting room and we all agree that without Bowman Medical Group we wouldn't be in the place we are today. read more

I love Bowman Medical Group as a whole- I've found them to be responsive, attentive, prompt, and flexible. I cannot see them anymore due to a change in insurance, it's made me appreciate them DEEPLY. I came here to specifically write about how much I love Dr. Sara Bobak- and how much not seeing her anymore has been hard! Dr. Bobak was frankly the first doctor I've ever had to take all of my medical concerns *incredibly* seriously. With respect, with knowledge, and with compassion. She is flexible, she takes the time to explain things without being condescending, and she gives excellent medical advice. She's also got a very relaxed and easygoing yet direct bedside manner. BIG TIME SCAM !! After seeing BOWMAN initially EVERY month and then (at his suggestion) every OTHER month for a year and a half - he refused to give me my RX for the meds HE put ME on UNLESS I began to give him $150 EVERY month. (fine, if he had given me the heads up) INSTEAD he REFUSED to see me to discuss/explain the change/or at the very least give me the COURTESY so that I am financially prepared next visit. Instead he TURNED ME AWAY with no rx and then cowardly had his staff pass me over to one of his other doctors. ????? FURTHERMORE he has NOT even checked in to see if i am alive since he COLD TURKIED me b/c I couldnt give him more $$$. Everyone esp. PHD MD know that you have to taper off meds esp. after 18 months of taking them DAILY- the risks are SUICIDAL/FATAL. Looks like $$$$ means more to BOWMAN then the possibility of a patient KILLING themselves. I will 100% report him to the board, no question. btw this is my first YELP review, I never thought I would YELP but I feel at VERY least I have to do all I can to WARN others of this INSENSITIVE, MONEY HUNGRY, DANGEROUS man. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Bowman's for many years now. He has quite an amazing ability to make my concerns feel clearly understood, describe a rationale as for how a specific medication regimen will address those concerns, and create contingency plans and answer questions - all within a reasonably short period of time. I must say I think that is quite a skill to have! He is responsive, thoughtful, and insightful. I have also found his staff to be very professional and consistently on top of their work. While he is expensive, I still find him to be well worth the expense, after many years of working together. I've never received the quality of treatment he provides from anyone else. read more

It is a sad fact that the best mental health professionals in the Los Angeles area do not take insurance, and therefore good mental health care is very expensive. Dr. Bowman is worth the expenditure. I found him to be a good listener, an excellent diagnostician, and a person who is sensitive to complicated situations. I have another family member with a different psychiatrist in the practice and he too is excellent. Wow I am amazed to read a positive review of this man. I think some people get lucky and do well on meds bit if you are like me and don't them you learn fast just how good your doctor is or in thus case isn't. This man DOES NOT LISTEN!! I can not think of a worse feature in an therapist. He put me on a drug and said he understood about my bad drug experiences and then when I had bad reactions I mean horrendously bad had to be on suicide watch ( and had no depression only anxiety before med) he was so not helpful. Took many calls from my family to get him to help me off the drug. He had me push through for 13 days of hell! Then he never called to check up on me and when I called for help after he was a cavalier ass. I can not tell you how much trauma this man caused me!! He is not to be trusted!! read more

I was on the market for a Dr. so I emailed this group to inquire if they were admitting new patients. I got back a very short one sentence reply from the office asking what my insurance provider was. I told them and then I recieved a message a day later that they couldn't take me because of my insurance. WTF. No phone call or interest in me whatsoever because of my insurance. I'm capable of paying in cash, but i didn't get a chance to tell anyone that. I felt really sad after such a negative exchange with a mental health care provider. I only use Yelp as a guide to discover never and nearby restaurants, shops and services. Probably not the place I'd look to find a physician, especially as personal and private as a psychiatrist . I've always had the ability to see a new doctor through referrals from my internist, specialists and friends. I think that each person has many different experiences based on their expectations. A restaurant review is one thing, but to put it in the same league a physician is quite another, Frankly, I think that Yelp as a whole is a great reference, BUT, it's also full of many"cry babies", From hotel bedding, fresh meat selections and dry cleaners. Im in shock to read anything remotely negative regarding Dr. Bowman. Without a story, I can't be pickier in life,, especially with my medical care. I must say, Dr. Bowman is a dream, as magical as the Wizard of Oz. I have never met such a brilliant physician and compassionate man. His talent as a psychiatrist/psychopharmacologist is bar none. I venture to say he's most likely one of the leaders in Los Angeles. He has literally saved me under so many different circumstances meltdowns for 8 years. I TRUST him 100% and he's never lets me.down. He has NEVER forced me to take any medication, as a matter of fact, he usually starts me on 1/4 of the starting dose and encourages my feedback and would rather I discontinue and go another route than continue with uncomfortable side effects. I started going to Bowman Medical Group when I was 15/16. Never liked Dr. Bowman (very pompous and arrogant) but I started seeing Margo and LOVED her. I had no problems with this facility until recently. The girls that work the front desk are very unpleasant and rude and they've messed up my schedule MULTIPLE times now. Last time I had an appointment I drove all the way from Van Nuys where I live to Beverly Hills for the appointment. As soon as I parked my car, 5 minutes before my appointment, the front desk girls called me to tell me they had to cancel my appointment because of a scheduling error. I was definitely annoyed but I let it slide. Then a few days ago I got to my appointment 15 minutes early and waited to be seen at 4:30. I waited patiently but decided to complain when I realized they still hadn't called me in and it was 4:50. I told the front girl that this was ridiculous and I did not expect to pay full price for this considering I'm only getting 10 minutes of my appointment. She seemed unamused and Margo called me in then. Margo explained how sorry she was and that the girls up front had forgotten that I was there. I was LIVID and in the end those bastards still made me pay full price for my stupid 10 minute appointment. After going her for 6 years, I will not be returning. read more
