I feel that my life feels more gratifying. satisfying, more peaceful, more loving, grounding, forgiving, and really my eyes consistently focused on God because of the difference the San Diego Rock church has made in my life. The San Diego Rock church is great for spiritual growth as well as connecting with like-minded people, but it's how you decide to live your life once you leave church on a daily basis. Did you know they have a superior summer camp they run at Point Loma Nazarene University? I came across it on a walk and was so impressed with the way staff was handling the camp population and visitors. I spoke with some young men from all over San Diego and Las Vegas! They were having the "best time of their year" they said and love staying in the dorms and meeting so many other young people of faith. I saw cornhole games and ping pong tables by the library and other games scattered around campus. There were also many chaperones and information tables set up for check ins and safety. I've seen the logo for the church many times and even have seen people wearing it at the school during events . My son needed specific services and is apart of a class that happened to have a child who always wore the city life shirts , and he was always very hard to miss being a fairer complexion to most of the student class . Last April , I took the plunge and decided to take my 3 children and myself to this church due to the fact that it was up the street from where I lived , said they had a day care ( which was confirmed via email with the pastor before that Sunday , with an incredibly lightning response ) , and my son having autism and not good at handling new things , would know at least one child there. I loaded up my double stroller , my kids , and my strength up the hill and towards the church . I was immediately welcomed by at least 4 to 5 people who's smiles helped more than they know . I signed up my children for kids life ( their day care) and my then 6 year old and 2 year old were already off playing with the other children there . My son even saw his friend from school . The church was so friendly and kind and so attentive to my new face and gave me a beautiful bible , a welcome packet and so much love that it was initially overwhelming . The warmth you feel when you get there is so magical and contagious that you can't help but be drawn back . My son's friends father , ended up being the pastor which was kinda crazy to me due to the fact that he doesn't look like a typical pastor . The sermon was raw and real . Every dark part of me screamed as Dale preached and when the time came for people to ask for prayers , I asked Carol to hold my 1.5 month baby girl and I asked for prayer for my broken existence and I bawled like I never had before , in a school multipurpose room , full of strangers , and I wept so hard I barely noticed the extra pair of arms that helped hold me together in that moment . Is my review biased ? Absolutely . But this was my first experience with this church and I'm so grateful and blessed for my church family . Long story short , less than a week later I was baptized and became a member of this church . The church isn't perfect and it's never going to be but this church has helped me on so many different levels , and they continue to bless the community . Pastor Dale and his wife have been nothing but beautiful to me and my family , and even GAVE ME their van FOR FREE, out of the kindness of their heart . I mean come on ... lol This church isn't going to give cars out to every single mother that pops up but they will help , and if someone in the church can't help they will do their absolute best to point you to another place with open arms that can help .

We took communion, pastor personally came to me and we had a small talk. The worship was uplifting and heartfelt, I enjoyed the singing and the message was inspiring, practical, and easy to connect with. I also loved that they offer free coffee, tea, and pastries -- such a thoughtful touch that made it easy to relax and enjoy the morning. My friend's daughter absolutely loved the Sunday school program and was especially excited about the preparation for Easter. It truly feels like a church where you can grow spiritually, build meaningful connections, and feel at home from day one.

Consequently, some members of CWC also attend HWOW meetings and events, and hands down they are beautiful people! (Check out HWOW at hwowministries.org). I've met new friends and have attended service here before, as well as a couple of other gatherings. They really make you feel at home and embrace me as a member of the body of Christ. We both love Jesus and that's enough for us. This is how it should be everywhere! The church itself is friendly and diverse and has a lot of different ministries. Brand spanking new Newbreak Church just opening in Ocean Beach on Saturday, August 25, 2012…read more Located on the corner of Ebers St. and Cape May Ave., in Ocean Beach's so-called "Miracle Mile" of churches, the church debuted after extensive remodeling and face-lifting and marks the 6th location of a Newbreak, county-wide. The building, itself, has been at that location in OB since 1917, and inside, it does seem somewhat smallish, compared to some of the mega-churches I have gone to. But there is a basic simplicity about the building and beautiful details abound inside, such as wood-beamed ceilings, ornate wall designs, and of course, that awesome stained-glass window at the front of the sanctuary. The service went by quickly with your standard worship music played by a mellow house band beginning the service. Ocean Beach pastor Steve Bombaci, himself an OB resident, welcomed the large crowd. So many attended the first service, that plastic chairs were put out in the courtyard and some attendees enjoyed a fresh-air service. I liked that this Newbreak Pastor followed precisely along with the lesson plan and his sermon on being thankful and not complaining certainly hit home with me. The parishioners were on the youngish side with plenty of surfer-types and young families prominent. Even the babies of these Newbreak-ers seemed quiet and well-behaved. This is a very wholesome crowd and they are big on fellowship with food and drink after the service. I can heartily recommend this new OB Newbreak Church to those looking for a cool but casual place to worship God in Ocean Beach. Since parking is tight in this mostly residential area, Ocean Beach Elementary School, a few blocks south, has opened up their large parking lot to accommodate congregants. 5 YELP STARS for this great new addition to OB spiritual life!

Church turns away people in need. They have two gigantic parking lots, and one of them is always…read moreempty all week, I was working a job across the street and sleeping in my car and I needed a temporary place to park but the church allowed me only to revoke it the same day for no reason, and they cited that there was no parking available for their own people, which is an outright lie because one of the lots was incredibly large and empty except for one car all week. They threatened to tow me. I said I would be happy to submit to any sort of background check, but it wasn't enough for them. Generally if you go to church they try to help you and try to give you some resources if you're in need, this church does the opposite as they give you the boot and threaten you. I'm not impressed. I think it's a case of "not in my backyard." So I cannot recommend this church at all. The pastor was nice at first, but once he found out that I needed a place to stay he got kind of rude and it was not a good conversation over the phone, he was very harsh and demanding and insisting that I would not be allowed there long-term, even part time, even on just certain days or regular work hours in the empty lot as I requested. Even just having a few nights a week would be helpful, but they were not allowing it. They're hoarding a giant parking lot all to themselves and won't let anybody use it for any reason, and then they complain about not having parking for their own members, when a giant lot sits empty all week long. They even put in a new gate just to keep the people out that were using it, all two of us. When I tried to press a bit more about this issue they muttered some thing about liability, but only after I mentioned "hey if you were upfront with me and told me it was about liability that would be one thing", so they're just basically covering their butts. I hate when people outright lie or promise something that they can't deliver, change their mind for absolutely no reason other than they just don't want to see an ugly car, or whatever the issue is. There was no reason that they couldn't have let me park there even just during normal workday hours or something. The lot is absolutely gigantic and it's far away from the main sanctuary anyway so I don't see what the problem is.

The church is relatively large, but congregation, was really small, which felt nice in a way. (Although our kids were pretty much the only kids in their children's church) Since then, the church has become less traditional and more somewhat modern, but still super kind and loving people. It's still small in number, with exception of a lot more children and a more dynamic kids church program. I really love the worship and the overall message, so I definitely recommend visiting and becoming part of this congregation, especially if you're looking for a place to belong and serve.
