My family and I recently visited Hershey while we were visiting our cousins in Pennsylvania. My wife and I had both separately visited Hershey when we were children, but this was the first visit for our own children. After taking a tour around town with Hershey Trolley Works, we headed inside Chocolate World. We went straight for the Hershey Chocolate Tour, where the line moved very quickly. It's not a real tour of the Hershey Factory, but rather a simulated one that is family-friendly. Similar to an attraction at Disney World, visitors sit in omnimover-style cars that move continuously along a track through the simulated factory journey. Our sons loved seeing the anthropomorphic chocolate characters who teach visitors about the chocolate-making process. Afterwards, we headed to the retail shop area to grab some delicious chocolate treats to take with us on the road. And don't worry... there were plenty of free samples too! For any families looking to visit Hershey, we highly recommend making a delicious stop at Hershey's Chocolate World!

It takes them like 3 seconds to process what you're asking them. I saw 1 feeding another staff member candy while on the job right in front of me when they should be operating the ride. Another 1 made a lame joke about me cutting the line when I just went under the ropes and was the last one in line. Like, there was no one else around. The chocolate characters were just the chocolate candy's with faces on them to bring them to life. So strange. It felt like I was walking in some strange video game with poorly programmed NPCSs. The first 2 hours offer free parking but then charge $60.

I drove down from Markham to attend an American Hockey League (AHL) playoff game between the Hershey Bears and the Manitoba Moose. Giant Center, where the Bears Play, is at Hersheypark, as is Hershey's Chocolate World. The Hershey Company owns everything at Hersheypark. I find it neat that the entire town is named after a company known for candy and chocolate. It didn't matter where you were in Hershey. You could smell the chocolate! I am certain that I got into visiting Hershey stores in my travels through this first visit to Hershey, PA. My visits to the stores in Niagara Falls (Canada), Las Vegas, and Shanghai come to mind. The flagship store is obviously in Hershey, PA. It was an amazing experience. The cool part was picking up a bunch of Hershey's Chipits in butterscotch. It was one of those hard-to-find flavours locally back then. It was so easy snatching a few bags for baking cookies and more. I think of chocolate bars when the Hershey's name is mentioned. The classic milk chocolate comes to mind. I like that it has expanded its flavour profile to include cookies and cream, dark chocolate, birthday cake, and almonds. At Easter, I do like a bag of Eggies. I like that you can get dark and milk chocolate varieties, with both having a candy coating on the outside of each Eggie (or is it Eggy for the singular?). I like Hershey's Kisses. The original milk chocolate is classic. I love candy cane Kisses that hit stores just before Christmas. The cookies and cream ones are also yummy. Besides the Hershey's brand, the Hershey's company also has these brands under its product umbrella: - Reese's - Chipits - Jolly Rancher - Oh Henry! - Twizzlers - Whoppers - Glosette - Skor - Brookside - Ice Breakers - Eat More - York I probably consume more Reese's, Jolly Rancher, Oh Henry!, Whoppers, and Ice Breakers on this list. So good! Hershey's Canada has its headquarters in Mississauga, near where I work. Sadly, it doesn't smell like chocolate whenever I'm driving to work. It should! They make some of the world's favorite candies and confections. Their products range from the basic chocolate bar to hard candies (Jolly Ranchers) with all kinds of candies in between. They also make chocolate and other flavors syrups too! There is a lot of goodness that comes from this company! My personal favorite is the Krackle Bar!!!

Lots of interesting information about Milton Hershey's life and the empire he built. The chocolate lab experience was 45 minutes and a little hokey. "Making chocolate" amounted to a quick arts and crafts project using melted milk and white chocolates, followed by a power point presentation on how chocolate is made. The museum store has a lot of fun things for purchase that I assume you can't find outside of Hershey, such as chocolate colognes. Overall we had a good time and would recommend it as a fun place to spend and afternoon with kids.

It's easy to miss as the storefront blends in with the neighbor hood. Just look for that familiar Seltzer's face logo and you'll find it! There was a fundraiser going on with a local radio station and grilled bologna sandwiches for sale outside. We enjoyed a sandwich then went in to an old timey style mom and pop shop full of t-shirt and other apparel, cups, souvenirs, and every style of bologna you could imagine for sale. They've expanded their flavors to 5 now, not just original and sweet. There's Chipotle, Double Sweet smoked, and a honey smoked flavor with free samples to try! They offer bologna bites, unique bologna jerky, bulk items and discounted misshaped slices. One of my favorites is the Dutch grillers, thick cut slices perfect for grilling and their "smoked coffee" has such a unique smoky taste I love. (No it doesn't taste like bologna but has a nice smoky aroma) They also partner and stock products from local small business which I appreciate. Every time you go in you find something new! There's also a mini museum of how they got started, their impact on PA government and history. A copy of their episode of dirty jobs plays in the background and gives a look into how the sausage is made so to speak. Overall a great place to stop if you're in the Hershey/Lebanon area, want to sample some local culture and cuisine and learn about the central PA area.
