I just dropped my kids off to find that the usually pristine facility was just covered with filth on the floor. Like someone had just dumped dirt and trash around. A teacher was trying to clean it up, because apparently the owners had just left it that way over the weekend for the old teachers to deal with unexpectedly before the parents arrive. The new owners are rarely there and when you ask when they'll be there, you get this vague "we're here whenever we can!". When they are there, they skulk in this back room area where you can't see them but they can hear what you say to the prior staff. They're just... listening in but refusing to actually communicate. They're also changed things that didn't need changing to the point that it just seems like a power trip -- like no teachers have a chair where they can sit down for a second except one, hard, dining room style chair. The final straw was that there were plastic bags left around in the trash. They talk "safety safety safety" but are leaving dangerous choking hazards left around toddlers? Filth on the floor where babies are learning to crawl? This isn't even an issue of "I just don't like their non-montessori style." This isn't a safe place any more.

Prestigious Name, Disappointing Reality: A Costly Lesson in Leadership Failure…read moreThis school operates under a well-known private franchise name, which initially suggested high standards and professionalism. Unfortunately, our experience over the past six months fell far short of those expectations. The school advertises small class sizes and a strong sense of community and family. In practice, those promises were not upheld. Class sizes increased abruptly from 13 to 20 children without adequate communication or adjustment, undermining the individualized attention that was promised. Despite claims of fostering a supportive community, leadership consistently failed to demonstrate transparency, collaboration, or accountability. From the outset, there were concerning signs of disorganization and lack of professionalism--such as a building alarm repeatedly beeping during drop-off. More troubling were classroom experiences in which children were publicly humiliated during circle time, and parents were chastised by teachers regarding their parenting. These interactions were inappropriate and deeply unprofessional. Classroom management appeared chaotic. Children's belongings were frequently lost, and parents were left to coordinate among themselves to recover missing items. There were frequent conflicts among children, and concerns were often addressed by labeling toddlers as "behavior problems" rather than applying developmentally appropriate strategies. A significant concern was the lack of appropriate training and expertise among staff. While teachers are required to hold a degree, many did not have degrees in early childhood education or relevant developmental training. Aside from CPR and First Aid certification, there appeared to be limited preparation in child development. In contrast, the few teachers who did have early childhood education backgrounds demonstrated a clear understanding of age-appropriate behavior and needs. Several staff members offered diagnostic opinions about children without the education or experience to do so. When parents disagreed or raised concerns, false or misleading reports were allegedly written to support a predetermined narrative. The school did not consistently follow Primrose franchise guidelines, ASQ questionnaire standards, or even the professional input of parents with advanced education in the field. When I formally filed a complaint and provided video evidence of mistreatment, the owner dismissed the concerns and instead focused on my child's reaction to the behavior, rather than addressing the conduct itself. This response reflected a lack of integrity, empathy, and understanding of toddler development. Rather than supporting families, leadership defended unprofessional conduct and placed blame on children for age-appropriate behavior. While there are a few dedicated and capable teachers, the overall experience was overwhelmingly negative and ultimately led us to unenroll our child. Attempts to seek support or resolution were met with further mistreatment. Even after withdrawal, the owner continued to deflect responsibility and place blame on a child simply for being a child. Given the nearly $30,000 annual cost, this experience was not only disappointing but unacceptable. Our child was more stressed in this environment than in other institutions, which should never be the case. This is not the experience a family should have--especially not at this price point or under a prestigious franchise name.

The final straw for me was when my fiancé witnessed the teacher elbowed a student in the face on accident and the girl starts crying and the teacher says " your suppose to announce yourself if you're behind someone " . It's Unbelievable that this is the behaviors being modeled at a private establishment. I would strongly suggest you think twice about what's most important to your child before enrolling here. Yes they will have 5 star home cooked meals and an awesome curriculum but This is not an emotionally safe space for your child.

Miss Mallory and Mr. Jacob in our son's classroom have been wonderful influences in his life. They are thoughtful, gentle, and deeply nurturing in their approach. We are leaving Ahava at the end of this week but only because we are moving across the country. We will miss Ahava greatly and will hold all other schools to the same high standards as Ahava! The coolest way to get involved is as a Parent Helper -- 1 day per month you get to (have to) work as a teacher's helper in the classroom. That's a lot of fun, you get to see what your kid is doing all day, and you learn a few new songs. Also love the outdoor focus - unless it's pouring, kids spend almost half their day outside, which I think makes my son happier and less cranky. The biggest downside is that they have limited space. So may Lady Luck be on your side.

I didn't want to just do an *average* review, nor did I want to be so aggrandizing as to create a new "listing" of my own Yelp life. [I did think about that one, though...]. Then it hit me: where it all began. Sure, I didn't start at Westminster til 6th grade (that little spurt in Chatt for preschool then another Atlanta private school came before) but it is the most formative educational experience of my life. Even - I think - more than UVA. What I learned, from the "Christian preparatory school for boys and girls" [Note: the specifically Christian part has changed since I was there in the 80s and 90s] is . . . hard to concisely explain [there are some negatives, which I will also mention]. Highlights: *How to think. My parents planted this seed early and they wisely knew I should be in a place where I was challenged, motivated, and importantly - intrigued. *How to create. [negatives: much like any JH and HS environments, cliques, snottiness, general *rivalries* exist] *Exposure to language and travel. From JH language classes and my first real foray abroad with my French class in 8th grade (I ultimately ended up with enough scores and credits to place out of any college requirements) to trips like Young Life's Western Tour that took us to TX, CO, Mexico, CA and back, with lots of stops in between (Have you climbed Half Dome? Pretty awesome). *The advantages to having so many interests at your use (and waiting or required, depending) - language! science! theater! oh my . . . *An athletic environment par none in Atlanta at my time, and amazingly even better now (and, frankly all "extra-curricular" outlets are as well- have you ever been forced to do a swing jump then safety catch as part of your high school curriculum? Didn't think so - oh, and I had to do mine in a cheerleading skirt). *Simply outstanding teachers (97.2% of the time) [Some pretty stern faculty members-in-charge could use a reset] *Wayyyy big preparation for college - I (and many of my classmates) say Westminster was more challenging than college (and we went to places like UVA, UNC, Dartmouth, Princeton, etc...) Negatives, so to speak, other than I have noted above? Intense competition and pressure; example: a typical weeknight for me as a high school sophomore was two hours of [cross country/cheerleading/tennis] practice, then homework from 8-11 pm, back up at 630 am. Varsity athletes who were also striving to keep being honor students did this every day, every week. Even Type As like me were . . . working hard and beyond. Social pressure - the flip side of acquiring those adult social skills. It's going to be in any Jr High or High School world, but it is amplified in such a brilliant environment. The Type Bs, so to speak - there for family reasons, because it is a phenomenal school, because . . .a really tough place to be as a kid and teen. Super spendy. A smart kid can learn well and go on to do well, regardless of their surroundings, but this kind comes at a price, which I believe is worth it, but it's a pretty big one in terms of dollars. Bottom line? I wouldn't trade it - the experience, the education, the whole shebang - for anything. As much as this smart, Type A, blonde cheerleading captain, WASP girl might have "fit in" and "excelled" - despite the expectations and challenges, on many levels, it is a privilege to go to a place like Westminster for education and way more. And a lot of other kids, different than me - can feel the exact same way. My parents didn't do everything right for sure, but they are the ones who made sure my hide was in that chair in Mrs. Norman's 6th grade English class, and taught me all about diagramming sentences. If you go on their website, you can find the facts that almost speak for themselves: stellar college placements, consistent state champions on a variety of teams, and a campus that rivals many liberal arts colleges. Beyond all of that, however, this is where I learned to study hard and grow as a human being. The religious nature of the school allowed me to gain a comprehensive education in Christianity, and the teachers here are second to none. Even five years out, I still keep in touch with many of them. The price tag is steep, and the social and academic pressure is high, but Westminster gave me a middle school and high school education that made me who I am today. For that, I thank you. Five stars cannot cover what I learned here.
