Considering how fast toddlers outgrow their clothes, its surprising that there aren't more re-sale and second-hand stores dedicated to children's clothing and toys. Hidden away in a strip mall on the far west side of Ann Arbor, Grow With Me is nondescript on the outside but bright and welcoming on the inside. Racks of clothes are organized by age. Clothing for toddlers and the under 10 crowd dominate, but there's also a room dedicated to clothing for teens and tweens. In addition, the store sells a variety of used toys, games and books in excellent condition, as well as a few new items. Another great thing about this place is that they have a table for disseminating information about childhood autism, and some of the proceeds from the shop go to charities related to autism. read more

During these pandemic times, Grow With Me has special "boxes" that you can order...new clothes for your little ones, activities, dress up boxes etc. I ordered a box of Spring clothes for my 5 year old daughter and mentioned in the comments that she likes polka dots, stripes and outer space. Elyssa gathered everything the very next day, and everything was so thoughtfully selected and very high quality. She even threw in a book about outer space- it was such a nice touch. I have shopped here on occasion over the years for my two kids, but today was the last time I will ever step foot in that store. The owner's customer service is absolutely deplorable. If you miss the 10-day return window by one day--even with receipt in hand and tags still attached to the item) she will not consider an exchange (I didn't even ask for a return--an EXCHANGE--for three times the value of what I was returning!!!!). Seriously?!? Also, I have never enjoyed shopping in the store as it is filthy (I try not to let my kids touch stuff) and it smells like cheap air freshener. Her prices comparable to sale prices at Carter's--which just opened up down the road next to Plum Market. It's close to my home which is why I stop in sometimes, but after my experience today I would much rather give my money to Once Upon a Child, Salvation Army or Carter's! The baby and children's clothes are outdated yet priced high for second hand. You can get a recent onesie at TJ Maxx next door for just slightly higher. They do have some toys and limited equipment that could be pretty handy though. And a lot of shoes. read more

There is a small selection of (mostly) brand name clothing and also some new toys, puzzles, etc. Prices are on the high side. I believe a used dvd is $5. I'm giving 2 stars because the customer service is unacceptable. They are standoffish and rude and act annoyed when you ask questions and act annoyed during check out. Once, when I asked where something was, the woman with dark hair (I think the manager or even the owner) scoffed and seemed very put out. Another time, the same woman rolled her eyes at me when I asked how much something was. I had the same experience as another reviewer when I brought my items in and chose not to buy anything. They seemed upset that I wanted cash and not exchange and made me feel very uncomfortable. read more

This is one of my favorite places to get like-new used kids clothes and shoes. The store is very clean and well organized and well stocked. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I've always found the staff helpful and friendly. If you sell clothes here for cash or store credit, They are very selective about what items they accept, but it shows in the quality and brands that you can buy there. You won't be sifting through over-crowded racks of stained and torn clothes here- it's always great quality. I usually find the prices fair and reasonable and have found great scores in their "dollar rack" section. Sure, you might be able to find something brand new and out of season on the clearance rack at Kohl's for a similar price, but buying second hand is about more than saving money! Another huge plus is that you can use your store credit to buy new items as well, they have lots of puzzles and other fun toys and crafting kits. read more

I love this store. Gorgeous clothes for kids (some of them still new with tags, people!), great toys, and an atmosphere that is welcoming for ALL children. Not surprising since some of the employees have kids with ASD. They are *very* discriminating about what they take, but that's all the better for shopping, right? I thought so. I've only been here once, but so far, I'd give it a 3.5 in terms of items available. The space itself, deserves closer to a 4 or higher, as it's nicely arranged and well spaced, vs. the "Once Upon a Child" also in A2, that is very cramped. However, it seemed like a lot less clothing options. I didn't find anything I liked in the sizing I needed. Majority of the front of the store seemed more like new toys and costumes for purchasing as gifts, versus pre-owned, discounted items that are more every day essentials. The back of the store has the larger items (e.g., bassinets, rock n play, strollers, etc.) all nicely laid out. There is also a shelf with various odds and ends that was not arranged at all. You have to just dig around to see if there is anything you may want. I did manage to find a used car seat mirror, so you can see your rear-facing baby while driving, for 1/3 the price of the item new, that was a great deal. I also saw a sleep sheep for only $5. Though this store seemingly seemed bigger than OUAC, I'll have to visit it a few more times to gauge if it actually has more items. In terms of pricing, the clothing seemed a bit higher priced, and less options.This store did carry other things that OUAC didn't seem to have as much of though, e.g., diaper bags. So It's worth exploring both stores. Similarly to OUAC, there were 3 people working here, all that just stayed behind the sales counter the entire time. They say they are very picky when it comes to items being taken in for store credit so therefor items for sale there are so extravagant but that is PROVEN a LIE! TIME AFTER TIME! I have had at least three transactions that were bad. I should have known after I saw them treat another customer just as bad before they had the chance to treat us the same way. My final straw was when they sold me a broken video camera baby monitor. She (THE OWNER) specifically told me they tested it before accepting it ( because at time of purchase this product was wrapped in cellophane) . Not only does it not take a full charge but it doesn't even work! Then she had the audacity to act like she was doing us a favor by explaining her store policy! My husband and I had been insulted enough! We threw the broken device that she knowingly sold us with no effort to reconcile -IN THE TRASH can out front of her store and will not be back ever! p.s. Clean and organized looking, place doesnt smell like some used places we have been in. I have tried coming in since 2012 when my son was a baby, now 6. I will no longer attempt to come here assuming things have changed because they have not in regards to their rude lack of customer service. Sept 2018. I thought I would give them a try to find my 6 year old some long sleeve shirts, All I have to say is how the hell are you still open? You people need to get the sticks out of your behind and quit the holier than thou attitude! This type of customer service, I should say lack there of is disgraceful and places like this do not deserve to be in business. Mind you I am polite every time and try to smile at them and say hello.. always crickets on their end even when I asked for help in finding where something was. I decided to walk out instead of continuing to look since all they did was say "ah yes back there somewhere" when I asked for help, guess they felt that was nice adequate help.. we are doomed in this society if this is what customer service has become, completely miserable! Not spending money here period and will not go back unless there is a change in ownership and or employees. They wont even acknowledge your existence from the time you walk in until check out except to say the total price which even then they are STILL looking at one another talking amongst themselves even when taking payment, no have a nice day, thank you or anything. It's nice having a place like this to take boxes of old clothes with the potential of making a little store credit instead of just straight donating them. But I will just say, I've been here a dozen times and sold stuff to them four or five, and I have literally never had a friendly interaction with an employee. They are rude, they ignore you, they act like your questions are dumb, they are not helpful at all. For a kid's store, they're also very intolerant of kids. They give side eye if my son even looks at a toy. I try not to bring my son if I can help it because I always feel that he is unwelcome. I'll keep going back because it exists and provides a nice service, but if you're looking for a friendly and warm customer experience, steer clear. read more

Is it possible to give 0 stars? Because that is what this business deserves. I have tolerated GWM for years. The owner is rude and clearly irritated you are supporting her business and the employees are annoyed you are there. But I have looked past that because they have the best resale items in town. I took some items in to sell yesterday. When I picked them up the next day, the owner was checking me out, and as she was filling out paperwork, she starts having an entire conversation with a woman also in line. Literally talking over and past me for like 2 minutes. It was very rude but hey! I'm used to it! I'm asking for this treatment when I come to this establishment! But the straw that broke the camels back was today. I never write reviews online. But this was too much. Today I received a phone call from a woman who works at Grow with me. She explained that there was a mistake and they overpaid me by 45 dollars. She then told me that I "should never expect to receive a large amount of money for one bag" (The bag I had was a very large reusable tote). She said it would be great if I could give the money back. And that this was her mistake not the owners. I replied that we could work this out. Then I added it's very condescending to scold me for thinking I could get such money for one bag of resale. Like it was my fault for her mistake. She then screams "FINE! KEEP YOUR 45 DOLLARS!" and HANGS UP on me. I called back because I was so upset. I spoke with a woman who said "Fran" was upset because it was her mistake that cost the business. I explained I am a reasonable person and was willing to help them rectify the problem. Talking down to me, yelling at me and then hanging up the phone on me is completely uncalled for. I asked this woman to have the owner call me. I haven't heard back. I have never been treated like this by a business and I certainly won't ever be going back to this store and I will encourage all my friends to stay away too. read more

I went back here yesterday, with my mother. No one greeted us as we walked in. I walked past the counter where two women were working, no one stopped to greet me, they continued on with their conversation. My mom stood at the counter for about 5-10 minutes before someone spoke up, and when they did, it was with an attitude "did you need something?". Like.... You're really irritated that she had a question and you had to pause your conversation?! The ladies were rude to my mom when she asked the price of something behind the counter. I finished up my shopping and came to the counter- still no one asked if I found everything ok or if I needed help... Nothing. I laid the clothes on the counter, she rang up my purchase and sent me on my way without so much as a thank you or see you next time. I wonder if these ladies realize that had they taken a few minutes to acknowledge us, how much more they could've sold us or if they just don't care? read more

Selection and organization of clothes is good. Decent ammount of equipment like strollers, etc. The biggest problem is that the employees are SO uninviting. No hellos, no smiles at all. When I went to check out they barely spoke a word to me, and really made me feel like I was an invonvienence. The employee was yelling at kids in the store who weren't doing anything wrong. Update review: I want to give this place a better review SO bad!!!!! I think there are 2 owners. The redhead woman is super nice and you can tell she wants the business to do well. Everyone else.. Well maybe they care, but I haven't gotten this impression for the past 2 years I have been shopping here. A couple days ago I brought in some equipment to sell. The woman helping me (not the redhead) was acting impatient because it took a few trips and I brought a lot of things. I guess I don't understand it since this is what their business is run off of. I get the feeling they don't like giving up cash. Only store credit. I could be wrong, but the fact that I get the impression makes it awkward to bring in baby clothes and equipment. So if any of you meet any friendly and hard working people who know how to talk and deal with customers send them here. They need them bad!! This place would be super nice with a little hospitality. When I first started coming to this store I loved it! They had lots of wonderful clothing, many with tags still on them. I also liked the fact that they are a big supporter of autism. A close friend of mine works at elephant ears and told me they donate a large amount of the clothing from their store to grow with me so I always loved coming here. I have stopped the store a few times and found they are very picky at the items - consider the store is relatively small that's understandable. But their item price is not any better, if not lower than other similar resell store like "Once upon a child". Therefore it is not really worth your time for the trip. I took my items to the "Once upon on a child" after visit "Grow with me", they took majority of the items and the price was more than fair. The person I had been freaked out by finally chilled out, I think she just doesn't have the best interpersonal skills because she's actually really nice, it just takes some time to break her in. Interpersonal skills...the owner/staff has none. I've shopped here many times and will not go back. Today was the last straw. A simple lesson in treating human beings decently would go a long way. I have a debit card in my maiden name, my license is in my married name. I found very little I wanted to purchase today, as the standards seem to have slipped from a few years ago. The woman at check out was so unfriendly that even though I had the cash to make the purchase when she refused my card because of the I.D. issue, I left. I don't need to spend money with such rude people. I am one of those people who is always overly friendly and kind. It's very difficult to rub me the wrong way, I understand people have bad days but that woman seems to be having a bad life and taking it out on everyone. This was far from the first time I felt uncomfortable on the most basic level shopping there. Data entry, or some other career that doesn't require human interaction might be a better fit. Seriously this place is probably the WORST customer service experience I've ever had, and I've had similar experiences there multiple times. A smile goes a long way ladies. And to the reviewer who said it just takes a while to "break her in" of the rude employee...that's not how it works. This is a great place to sell your gently used items! They price items fairly and have taken most of my items. The things they don't take can either be donated or you can pick up the items. I love this resale shop for kids! I have a 3 year old and we shop their frequently. The clothes we bought are great quality and also the ladies make me and my son feel comfortable shopping there, unlike some other kids shops, they really enjoy kids! They have a train table to entertain, while I shop. I like going there pretty much because the clothes are reasonable priced and my son is entertained. Also, you really need to buy it, or its gone. His age is high in demand, so I usually buy up what I like and then come back for more. I bought a couple xmas presents for my niece and nephew with tags!! What a deal! Thanks! read more

To assure that there are local people appreciating this store I thought I'd write a review. As a Grandma this is my #1 go-to store for children's resale. They do only accept better quality things or toys in great condition...and if something is accepted but found to be more worn, it is put in the $1.00 "room". The employees may not be in-your-face friendly, but I appreciate being able to go in and look without feeling watched. But let it be know that whenever I've approached an employee...with a smile...the employees have always been VERY personable. This was true whether I was purchasing, returning or asking a question. I have notice the employees get a little on edge when parents bring children in and allow the children to play with all the for-sale items without supervision. They always have a video playing and a train table for entertainment, but that doesn't seem to be enough for some families. I was in a couple days ago and a child was given a bucket from the Easter display to play with. She proceeded to rip all the paper that was in the bucket and shred it on the floor. Another child in this party took two of the crowns off the princess display and was banging them together. One of the employees finally had to ask the three mothers and 4-5 children to leave if they were done "shopping" (they bought nothing but certainly used the space as a playroom.) I must say the employees had a MUCH longer line of patience than I would have. This store brands themselves with top quality items at a reasonable price. My best purchases have been a very sturdy crib and dresser/with hutch for under $100, and my granddaughter's baptismal gown, silk and hand crocheted from Europe, new with tags, originally $295 for $28.00 less my 10% Grandma discount. I think we can hardly go wrong with that! I will be a Grow With Me shopper as long as I have small grandchildren. read more

Employees are not very friendly. For being a store that sells kids' stuff, you'd think they'd at least try to act like they like kids!

This is not your typical resale store - it's not overly crowded and it's very organized. The quality of the clothing is excellent - you don't have to carefully inspect each article for stains before you buy it. There are lots of items new with tags, especially in the baby section. There's a Dollar Room where you can find articles in les than perfect condition - perfect for daycare or just play clothes. I found a Columbia winter jacket with a broken zipper for $1 then I sent it to Columbia Sportswear for a free repair. My kids love to shop here, especially my son who loves to play with their train table. I've sold some items to this store for store credit but they are very particular and reject more of the things that my kids have worn. read more

I've been a customer here for about 5 years. Let me start by saying that I like their selection and I've purchased plenty of items from clothing to equipment to toys over the years. They tend to be pickier and have higher end clothing items that I'm more than happy to pay more for. It never ceases to amaze me that every single time I bring items in to sell they make me feel like a huge inconvenience. It's so confusing. Isn't this how you build your inventory? By paying me $0.50 for something you sell for $5.99? Most of the employees are very rude. I've overheard the owner complaining about "annoying" customers on many occasions. I suggest they turn on the radio so customers don't have to listen to employees gossiping and complaining. My advice - if you want to check this place out you should and you might find some nice clothes but prepare yourself for an unpleasant experience - happy shopping! read more

As you can probably tell from the fact that I only give 5-star reviews, I hate being negative on Yelp - but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from my experience at Grow With Me today. I walked in empty-handed (boxes in the car) just to introduce myself and make sure it was a good time for them to go over my items. The two staff at the counter barely acknowledged me and seemed annoyed that I was there; they didn't stop folding the whole time I was standing at the counter, instead of focusing on helping me. Then, one of the women was fairly contemptuous when I said it was my first time there. She proceeded to tell me that they were "extremely picky" about 0-12 month baby clothes because they had so many things that were "brand new" and that regardless they didn't want to see more than one box of my stuff since it was my first time there - as if I have time to drive out there on multiple occasions. When I then told her that actually, most of my stuff *is* brand new but that I would be happy to take it elsewhere, she relented a little and said "OK, bring it in," but by that point I just left without showing her a thing. Remember that moment in Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts goes back to the store that snubbed her, shows off her purchases and says "Big mistake?" Well, as it happens, the stuff she was so adamant about convincing me *not* to show her was high-end stuff - mostly sent to me by some generous friends in the fashion industry in Paris and New York, as well as purchased from Elephant Ears by grandparents- we're talking Catamini, Petit Bateau, etc. Designer, high-quality, great-condition clothing that she actually could have sold for real money. But unfortunately, she seems to have mistaken a resale shop in a strip mall in Ann Arbor for Fred Segal on Melrose. Better luck with your customer service skills next time, honey. read more

Very unhappy with the service. I was greeted in a very rude tone, and was surprised to find out it was the owner. I had taken in a big bag of very nice clothes, made sure they were all 100% stain free. They took a couple pair of jeans and a couple shirts for $15.04. That's with a 30% additional for doing store credit. I now remember why I haven't been here in over two years. I will no longer be going back to this store to buy, or sell. We brought in some clothes to possibly sell to them. We were told to leave them and they'd give us a call. We told them we were going on vacation for a few days so that would be fine. They called and said there was some pet hair on some items so we should come in and rewash them and bring them back. We told them we were out of town but would stop in when we got back. When we went in a few days later they couldn't find them and we we were told they were probably "donated" because we didn't come back to get them within 24 hours. They were told multiple times that we were away and nobody ever mentioned a deadline. At that point they said a manager would double check for them and give us a call. We never heard anything back. I even emailed them expressing my disappointment and asked for them to have someone call us as they said they would. Weeks later and we never heard anything back. We won't ever go back here and it is obvious from the other customer service reviews on here that they have some issues with how they value their customers. read more

I went here to sell baby items. Before going I called to ask their specific policies and procedures for such process. I adhered to everything they said. Once arriving with my items I was treated very poorly. The two people helping me (one of them an owner) was condescending, rude and extremely disrespectful. I have worked retail for over 10 years, and know this is not how you should treat anyone. They acted like I was a huge inconvenience to them even though I had adhered to all of the guidelines they stated over the phone for dropping off items. I left with a horrible feeling and hoped it was just a bad one time experience. After being told I could pick up my unwanted items the next day at noon I arrived the next day at 4 pm. They had not yet finished going through my items. When I asked when they would be finished (after already being told earlier that day they would be done) I again felt as if I was an inconvenience to them and was rudely told they I just had to wait another 20 minutes. The end of my transaction was cold and rude. I left feeling like I should have never stepped foot into the store, let alone sell them some of my baby items. No one should ever treat any customer with such disrespect, ESPECIALLY a store that makes their profit from people just like me selling them their gently used items. I will never return to the store. I feel strongly enough about my horrible experience to write this review and I usually never write reviews. After reading some reviews of Grow With Me, I realized I am not the only one feeling this way. Do yourself a favor, listen to the reviews and don't bother selling or shopping their. Ann Arbor has way too many other places to sell and shop used baby items. Just as a comparison, after this experience I took the remainder of my baby items to Once Upon A Child on Washtenaw. I was there approximately 6 times in a week period. EVERY SINGLE TIME I was treated with amazing customer service, honest and accurate pick-up times, and an overall excellent experience. read more

I've bought and sold here. Not a huge selection but what they had was well-organized, clean and decent brands. It's hit or miss as there isn't a lot in any one size/type. However, I'm not sure I would go back here. I was in line with a few customers and heard the cashier getting so angry about a woman trying to return something and the minimum charge amount. She was so very rude, sighing and saying she was going to get in trouble. The customer ended up walking without buying anything. All stores come with the challenge of providing good customer service even in difficult situations. I'm not sure what the internal policies are for returns/charging but there was certainly a better way of explaining it than berating the customer in front of other customers. And then continuing to gripe about the customer in front of the remaining customers after she left. Just didn't leave me with a good feeling about the place. read more
