Grumpy's is a pretty good little Italian place in Cullman. I came here for dinner one night with my friend Julia. I got a build your own calzone and added bacon and olives to it. They also gave me extra sauce. It was so delicious and cheesy! The restaurant itself is small and part of it looks sectioned off to look like a family dining room. The only thing I wish could improve is having an itemized check. I like to see everything on my bill versus just be told a total amount to make sure everything is correct. read more

Great food I always order spaghetti with garlic bread or a personal pizza but it has a great variety of italian food and awsome staff.

Went with some friends who live in Cullman, AL. They said it was their favorite Italian spot !! Bre S. was our Server, very nice young lady with a big smile & personality !! We all ordered spaghetti with meat sauce, baked. My husband ordered his with cheese. You can get their garlic bread also with or without cheese. Everything smelled soooooo good. Then the meal came. . I felt the spaghetti was very overcooked ~ to the point of being mushy. The flavor of the sauce was fabulous but there was hardly any meat. And the garlic bread was over the top delicious....... I bought two loaves to go home. I will certainly enjoy them with MY spaghetti at home !! Yes, I would suggest you stop but ask for the spaghetti "al dente"... unless you like it mushy !! read more

Great service but not good food. Unless somebody added salt to my garlic cheese bread to be funny, it had so much garlic salt I couldn't finish my meal and needs to have the amounts added reviewed . I was trying to locate a halal or kosher friendly restaurant in town and went here. The bread was a great texture, fresh, quickly served but why the added salt? It ruined a good meal. Be sure to tell them no additional salt on your food if you order. It was probably just an accident. I sat down and ordered a Calzone. Waited and waited. Watched two other groups get their food before us. My family's food came out...I still waited. Finally when the waitress asked if we needed anything I was shocked and said my food would be nice. They never even put it in. I'm not a big review person but my problem was the lack of attention to service. Especially seeing the workers on their phones and not paying attention to their customers. Was not even apologized to. We stopped in after looking for a pizza place on our way through North Alabama. Thank goodness we decided on Grumpy's! The food was amazing. Cheese bread as a starter, roast beef sandwich (soft bread and delicious filling), meat pizza (a large is HUGE), small veggie, chicken Alfredo and chicken Alfred carbonara. Everything was great! The only down side was the LOUDEST FAMILY I HAVE EVER HEARD were sitting by us. Like, it was unnatural how loud this family was. We will definitely be back! read more

It might be good. I don't know. We tried to eat there on a Tuesday evening. There was a red fluorescent sign in the window lit up saying it was open. There were people leaving. We were met at the door by a young lady who said even though the signs and Yelp all said they were open, they really were not open. She said she did not recommend any other restaurants other than Applebees. We have one in our town so I did not want to go there. We had actually struck out at a couple other locations, closing early (on a Saturday?) and or just closed. Next up was Grumpy's Itailian Grill. As you can see it kind of worked out, since they scored a perfect 5 out of 5. The outside isn't anything fancy, but it provides 4 walls and a roof, so good enough! We walked in and were immediately hit with the amazing smells being produced from the kitchen. I'm not one that typically craves Italian food at restaurants (see my other reviews for why) .... but, if we lived closer, I think Grumpy's could become a regular spot. Service was really good, surprisingly they weren't in character - we kind of expected the service to be a little .... well grumpy. Late for a lunch, they were still pretty packed out, but still had room to seat us when we arrived. The menu isn't crazy either, Half a dozen starters, half a dozen sandwiches, half a dozen pasta dishes .... and a handful of specialty pizza and calzone choices. I went for the meat pizza (add green bell peppers). Very surprised when it cam out looking like brick oven pizza (no brick over here though). This pizza was legit good! Plenty of toppings, crust had a little crunch to it but not too much, house made marinara had just enough but not overly done. These guys know how to make a pizza! My wife had the baked spaghetti and it came with garlic bread. The baked spaghetti wasn't bad, a solid 3 star, but the bread stole the show!! Easily 5 stars. Oh, our brioche app with tomato and onion and balsamic glaze was pretty good too! Great customer service, very reasonable prices and really good food! Try them out! read more

We were looking for a late lunch in Cullman and it seems most of the town shuts down for a siesta or high tea or something. We may have been a little grumpy ourselves when we finally found something to eat on a recent Saturday excursion. But by the time we left, we were all smiles and our bellies were definitely full! For an app we got bruschetta and toast and I liked that it was really fresh and light. (4/5) The baked spaghetti was good, but I wasn't crazy about the sauce so I gave it 3/5. But that piece of garlic bread on the side ... oh my goodness! I could eat that every day for the rest of my life. 1000 stars for the garlic bread! Thank you Grumpys for curing our hangry attitudes... and also for being an hour away from me so I don't have to buy a new wardrobe for all the weight I would gain! read more

It's called "Italian Grill", but nothing is grilled. Garlic salt is used instead of garlic. The pasta choices are just okay, nothing to rave about, and the same goes for the pizzas. I just tried the chicken salad sandwich, and I must confess that plain unflavored eggplant has more flavor. But the service is great and so is the large section of beer, plus they have good selections of liquors cocktails and some wine. The ambiance upstairs is mostly family friendly, but downstairs is called "Down Under" and more adult bar trivia and karaoke with sports on the tv screens. read more

As an Italian restaurant, 5 stars. We have dined here twice and both times had excellent meals. So we thought we'd try a pizza. ONE star! So disappointing, where was the sauce? We asked for extra cheese and couldn't find any. Normally I don't notice salt the way my wife does but both of us were immediately turned off by the overwhelming saltiness. I ordered a large custom pizza with sausage, pepperoni, onions and black olives. While I had high expectations because of all the positive reviews the pizza was horrible. The cheese had virtually no flavor but the entire pizza was very salty. So salty in fact that it was barely edible. At $25 a pie it was too much to pay for a pizza that tasted as though olive juice and salt had been poured all over it. I may try another entree at Grumpys but never again a pizza. read more

This was our first foodie stop on our spring break with the kids. We decided on Grumpy's after reading the reviews and looking at the pictures. The restaurant was nicely decorated with plenty of space. The bar was separated and downstairs which was nice when traveling with kids. However for those of us who enjoy a beverage the cocktail menu was detailed, priced, and stated that each one contained 1.5 oz of liquor unless otherwise requested. I appreciate that!! Lol We started with Italian nachos and potato skins. Delicious with something on every chip, however all the cheese was melted to the bottom of the foil and hard. We will ask for it on top next time. Skins were average. Pepperoni pizza was delicious. Thin crispy crust with little sauce and plenty of cheese. Price was good I think. One side salad, Nachos, 6 skins, 14" pepperoni pizza with water to drink was $30. 2 adults and 3 healthy teens left satisfied. We will definitely visit again in June on our way through. read more

The atmosphere is less than inviting and the waitress did not return to take our orders after seating others behind us. The food and service were great. We were seated quickly, even though the parking lot was full. The food came out fresh and hot without a long wait. After a long day of meetings, then dinner, then bowling. We stopped off here on our way back to the hotel. Work crew wanted to drink some beer, sing some karaoke, and let off some steam. We arrived around 10:30 pm, karaoke was going full board, place was about a quarter full. Since we already eaten, we just had a few drinks. People were really nice, a couple of the locals were getting to nice? The karaoke DJ had a huge selections of songs, plenty of customers wanting to sing. We stayed there until around 2:00 am, DJ had to close shop before but allowed everyone to join in together and sing a couple of songs. We had a great time, nice cold beer, surprised how their were all different of ages their! It was great! read more

Grumpy's was recommended by a local. I've seen it on Yelp but really would have never known it's location if this person hadn't given me directions. The recommendation came with the advice to ask for extra sauce if you like to taste the sauce. They typically only put a little sauce on the pie. The crust was thin and crispy. The sauce was a little chunky and very flavorful. The cheese was perfectly gooey. A small 10" Hawaiian pizza was just a little over $8 and lasted me two meals. Not too bad. This may be my new fav pizza joint. Staff was super friendly. I was disappointed in the Orange Dreamsicle cake. The cake was a little dry and crumbly and the icing tasted kind of gritty. That's ok though, I won't be going for the dessert anyway. read more
