I loved coming to this cute Italian place this past week. I came here with my friend Julia who lives around this area and recommended it. The restaurant itself is so cute with a nice indoor and outdoor dining area. I usually don't like to dine outdoors, but they had a nice fully covered and enclosed patio that let us enjoy the warmth of the nice weather without flies everywhere lol. Service was exceptional. Our waitress was extremely kind and attentive to our needs. The knife in my silverware packet was actually dirty, probably from water/soap stains in the dishwasher but she was able to get me a new set of utensils rather quickly. There were a few menu items that intrigued me, but seeing pictures of the Fettucini Carbonara on yelp is what sold me. I love cheesy pasta! When I got it, the presentation did not disappoint! It was so cheesy and pretty! I had to take lots of pictures of it! The breadsticks that came with it were heavenly! I loved them! The pasta itself was okay, once all the cheesy goodness topping was gone, it was just like regular pasta and mushrooms. I did enjoy the bacon bits inside. I was hoping for fresh hand made pasta, but the fettucini seemed a little dry in some parts so it's likely their pasta is not made in house. I probably would not order it again. Decent spot for Italian food in the Cullman area but nothing too extravagant. Plenty of menu options and service was friendly. A darker lit dining room ambiance inside but plenty of seating on the patio. The food itself had great portions but was just okay. Either way, still probably one of your better Italian options in the city. read more

This came highly recommended. What a disappointment. My major problem is the tip on the final bill was changed, and I was reprimanded at work because of it. I got a cauliflower pizza everything was frozen or canned not a-lot of fresh items on the pizza. The side salad was good. Service was fine. We LOVE Carlton's (soon to be Lucy's on 3rd)! My family and I have been going here for years and it is always wonderful. The restaurant is charming and is currently decorated beautifully for the holidays. We especially love sitting on the comfortable patio. Servers are always friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The food is delicious and also comes in generous portion sizes. The ingredients are fresh and we always have leftovers to take home. As someone who is gluten free I truly appreciate the amazing cauliflower crust pizza and yummy salads. The rest of my family loves the pasta, sandwiches and desserts, too. We have been to Carlton's several times and have always enjoyed the food, service and patio. The Philly cheese steak sandwich is always good but the amount of beef is a little light. I had the chicken salad sandwich and my husband had the turkey sandwich last time we were there and they were both delicious with lots of meat. Will definitely go back! read more

I have been here once since moving to Cullman. We waited for an indoor table, so our wait was 15-20 minutes. Their wait area was small, so some people were waiting outside as well. The service was excellent. The waitress let us know ahead of time that they make everything fresh to order, so it would be about 30 minutes for our food. My friends and I ordered baked pasta, so it did take almost the full 30 minutes to get our food. We had salad and bread as we waited. Food was hot and delicious. I would go back again. if you decide to go, be prepared for a wait. read more

Two stars one for today. The other is because this used to be a great place to dine. Ordered Italian Sub. Unusual prepared with tons of yellow mustard and mayonnaise and a wedge of lettuce. Maybe a first-timers attempt at an Italian sub. It was okay. Now the service, probably a high schooler so some margin is given and understood. But she never returned to the table until I asked the lady at the front to call her. Then she dropped the bill without a word. Then the same with my change. Thank you would have been nice. A refill would have been appreciated at the mid-point in my meal. Tried to pay my bill at the front...they said NO you must wait on your waitress. Thank goodness they summoned her for me or I would have simply left. So disappointing. Used to be the best place to eat with great service. Sad. read more

I've tried them several times and it keeps getting worse. Had a 'seafood' raviola- yuck. Sent it back. Tried the raspberry salad. Bowl was too small, couldn't mix the salad. We are long-time customers at Carlton's Italian Restaurant where the food is always good along with the service. Went in tonight and was seated. There were three other couples inside and no one sitting outside. The waitress was in the back talking and ignoring us and after waiting 15 minutes without anyone taking our drink or food order we got up and left. Lost our business and will not return or recommended it to others. It doesn't matter how good the food is the service can make or break the business. read more

I have been to Carlton's several times. Today was disappointing at best. The chili was outrageously good! I'll give them that. I ordered chicken parm sandwich with no bread because I'm watching Carbs. The chicken comes on a Hogie roll. My piece of chicken couldn't cove half of a hogie roll. On top of this the chicken was bare, no cheese, No marinara either. Wait fetched the cheeses and marinara but the chicken was to small and cold yo melt it. All I can say without being extremely rude I did not enjoy my meal. read more

The pizza is probably best in town, and I was a huge fan of the shrimp and Conecuh sausage pasta - definitely had a little bit of kick. Even the salads are pretty tasty here. I went today Saturday with a group arriving close to noon. Place only had a couple of tables being served. They quickly sat us and took our orders. The place looked nice enough. People I was with recommended the restaurant. The first warning sign was a server that looked miserable. He seemed like he was doing us a favor and couldn't care less. But, I overlooked it hoping the food would be good. In an Italian restaurant I usually order the meatballs as it's a sure way to tell if you're in for a treat. I ordered the meatball sub. It's something I go to when I just don't know. After about an hour and 20 minutes. The food began to drip out of the kitchen. Honestly, I wish it would have stayed there. What a pathetic excuse for a meatball sub. 3 small (bag) meatballs on a hot dog size roll with a pickle slice and potato chips for $14. An Italian restaurant that doesn't make their own meatballs is NOT an Italian restaurant. I apologize to all Italians for appropriating a fantastic culture and food with this poor excuse of a representation. I could go on and on about this place. If you think this is Italian food, I really feel sorry. The only thing Italian here is the name. read more

Here's my experience with Carlton's. I spent 20+ years in the Food/Hospitality industry, so really, this is directed toward the management of the restaurant. This took place on Saturday, May 4, 2024: 7:54pm - Called to place order for pick up; placed on hold by staff; staff hung up on me after 2 minutes on hold. 7:56pm - Called back to place order for 1 large pizza and 1 Caesar salad. Was told my order would be ready in 30 minutes. (Inferred, by lack of courtesies and rushed tone of voice, that staff/restaurant was apparently quite busy. Not unexpected, given it was Saturday.) 8:32pm - Arrived at restaurant to pick up order. Noted that dining room and outdoor patio were less than 50% full and three or small parties waiting to be seated. Stood at cashier counter to await food. 8:39pm - Paid for items ordered. Informed it would be about 10 minutes longer. 8:50pm - Caesar salad brought out. Pizza would be out soon. 9:05pm - Informed by staff of "a little problem": kitchen had burned the pizza. Given option of being placed "in the refund books" or to remake the pizza. I chose remake the pizza. (Salad alone wasn't enough for the folks at home) 9:30pm - Pizza brought out. Departed restaurant. No "service recovery". No "here's a coupon for a free appetizer on your next visit." Not even a basic "I'm sorry this happened" from the manager. You missed an opportunity, Carlton's. And frankly, the lack of customer service might have been forgotten if the food was better. The pizza and salad were mediocre. Passable. C+. Inspired by SYSCO, not Sicily. You get the picture. Carlton's has posted it's award for "Best of Cullman 2023 - Italian restaurant" near the waiting area in the restaurant. Hmmm, I'm thinking Cullman deserves waaaaay better than this. read more

I've been here a couple times so far and it's been ok. One time my friend ordered the Italian Beef sandwich and it was pretty small. Very little beef per peppers and no cheese. We kind of laughed at how small it was. Another visit we ordered three bbq chicken pizza. It was not great. Chicken was in very large chunks that were kind of dry and not bbq at all. Couldn't taste any bbq sauce really. I'd go back but Carltons isn't my first, second or third choice and that's unfortunate. I really like the location and staff as the service has been friendly and attentive. read more

Enjoyed our Italian lunch today at Carlton's! Love the atmosphere of this place. It's handsome and cozy and has a lovely patio that I'm sure is wonderful when it's not raining, haha. Our party had a chicken bacon ranch pizza, a build your own pizza, fettucine carbonara, and chicken parmesan. Everything was met favorably. The tomato sauce strikes a great balance of sweetness. The carbonara was especially well received. LOVED the thin, crispy crust on the pizza. My only complaint would be the chicken on the chicken bacon ranch pizza didn't really taste like how I expected it would - hard to describe, though. I will say I wish the food would have come out a little faster and our drinks had been refilled a little more frequently - but to be fair the place was pretty busy and our waitress was overall very nice, especially when subjected to the good natured sassiness of my parents and their friends! read more

we used to love this place and we're regulars. we came at least once a week. I know all prices hace went up some as expected but theirs have increased to an extreme amount recently recently. the food also started being hit or miss so we started coming less. i called today at 730 said they were open till 9 and no wait. when I arrived I had to wait about ten min for anyone to acknowledge me. they write our name down and the. told us ten minutes. even though we had just been told no wait. After about 15 min we were finally seated. We waited 20 min at the table watching people after us come in l Be seated get drinks place orders. No one saud a word to us.
