For public, you must enter from the front door and check in at the receptionist. The gymnasium was used as a temporary shelter for the displaced families from the tornado-torn apartment and the 100-year flood in 2015. They sponsored health related events, school backpack giveaway events and many community relation events. That's why majority of my annual United Way pledge is allocated to Houston Chinese Community Center. Because of the community penetration, it has attracted many successful businesses around here. The center is constructing a 2-story building called "New Horizons", which will provide much needed space for more exciting programs. Lots of families were walking the trail with kids playing. Probably the only thing that's gross is there is some trash in areas, but honestly a community cleanup day could handle that.

We arrived here on the last Sunday of the year. December 28, 2025. It was very auspicious for sure. We found parking at around 7:45pm and had people directing us where to park. We found parking and walked towards the entrance and waited for my friend's friends to show up. After introductions, we entered the botanical park and my friend scanned all the tickets for our group to enter. I'm not sure how much those tickets costs, but I'm sure it was worth every penny. We probably spent about 1 1/2 hours here from start to finish. We tried to stay close to together, walking close together and enjoying the lit up displays along the way. It was cool how everything was themed. From animals and insects to the many Chinese astrology animals. We even asked each other about who is what sign and we all tried to find where our Chinese animal was. It was a fun experience to have with friends on a Sunday evening. A lot of trees and signage were decorated with a lot of lights and festive themes. It was a beautiful night to be out and about. Thanks to my friends and new friends who have helped me enjoy the last Sunday of 2025 with a paid admission. It was cool that there was a lot of families and children out and about. Weather was good that night. No need to put on layers. There were food vendors in the park that night but we ate dinner prior to coming out to the Houston Botanical Gardens. The overall experience here at the Houston Botanical Gardens was very cool. Just saw the gardens at night which was cool but not during the day when it can be very therapeutic and calming as well. Still, the most beautiful thing about the lights event is that it brings people together during the holidays. Brings out the humanity in people when life seems to be on edge these days. The atmosphere that night was decidedly electric and plenty of people were around to make it better. I forgot to take photos that evening but the memories will live with me forever. For the most part though, I enjoyed myself here, seeing something different than the usual tourist thing in Houston at night. The asphalt paths was marked and there was no problem navigating around the garden. It felt smaller than it was but then again, I was following friends around without realizing how large the botanical garden really was. And so, it was just the right place that I needed to be. Enjoying the vacation with friends before doing something in Missouri City 2 days later. Maybe I should not have walked around too much that evening, but it's been a good way to be active out here at the Houston Botanical Gardens than sitting around at the house. I'm pretty sure that the lights show that I attended here is a seasonal event, so I'm assuming that they just have it annually. Not sure about other events at the HBG, but definitely check them out if you are interested and in the Houston area. Just happened to be here during the holidays in 2025. The Houston Botanical Garden is a beautiful place that's located centrally in the city of Houston, Texas. It's physically located at 1 Botanic Lane, Houston. I'm sure they accept major credit cards as well as cash for their online ticketing and people who pay at the entrance on a daily basis. As far as parking goes, there's quite a bit of parking stalls here. Albeit being at night, I figured that it was large enough to fit about 75-100 cars at any given time. I'm not sure about public transportation options, since I'm a visitor to Houston, but you can double check with the local transportation authority and see which routes are applicable and appropriate for your next trip to the Houston Botanical Gardens. Best thing to do is to have your own car, rent one, or hit up your local Houston friends to hang out at the Houston Botanical Gardens next time they're available. And of course, there is Uber and Lyft if you need their services as well. The admission fee is reasonable for anyone and everyone to help maintain the gardens. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable about the native plants that's being cared for here. There's signage that helps you identify all the plant species that are here at the HBG. Do yourself a favor and come down to The Houston Botanical Gardens on your next trip to Houston. It may be the place you need to start or end your day. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. And the people in the crowd were a calm enough bunch though the bittersweet tang of marijuana wafted through the air. It's not legal in Texas but I didn't see cops wandering into the crowds to do anything about it. Why two stars? Litter! Loads and loads of tossed trash on the ground. During 2016, I thought 2nd year would be a breeze but something felt through. We lost communication until a month before pride event. Once we were engaged for a week, then it was silence. My group was anxious to get answers that I couldn't provide. I blame it on their failure to stay organized. Others blamed it on the inside politics of this and that. Since I was not an insider. I couldn't speak for whatever they do. My group paid big money. We expected some service for the value but it was not there. After many people using many different ways to communicate with them, emails finally resumed just a week before the parade. I wasn't involved with them in 2017. But I had to pass my knowledge down to next person in charge at my group. Well. Guess what? Same problem. Who can you complain this to? Nobody. Do you go somewhere else? No. Because this is all we've got. So, tell them to get their act together. I'm not sure who is watching the children, but the supervision is not up to my standards. I ended up pulling my daughter out of the program. Another child in the program was making racial slurs. Other incidents had occurred as well. From my understanding, the child was disciplined and the parent was contacted. Well, the behavior continued. I called a meeting with the other parent and the director of India House Mr. Vipin after my daughter was deliberately spit in the face by the child. In the meeting he played the situation down as if it was kids being kids. Racial slurs and leading to spitting in an individual's face is NOT kids being kids. Then he and the parent were wondering why as a mother I was so upset. He assured me that he would meet with my daughter and the other child. Well, that meeting NEVER took place. As upset as I was, I figured he would have done what he said he was going to do. So I guess he lied to my face and could care less about what happened to my daughter. The child was not disciplined at all for the matter and was allowed to return the next day as well. Obviously the issue was not dealt with because again something else happened. All he did was let the other parent and the child know that that type of behavior is fine with his organization. Well, I was done. And again, he tried to play the situation down. I'm glad my child knows how to defend herself. I gave her the green light to handle her business, and I'm glad she did. She may be small, and we are used to people trying to bully her, but it never goes well for the bully. NEVER goes well. I would not recommend this place to anyone as a after school or summer program. I see they try to sweep things under the rug and issues are not dealt with accordingly. As a parent, when you call a meeting to discuss the matter and are given excuses like, "Kids will be kids." This is the type of program my child will never attend again. Racial slurs and spitting in someone's face is not kids being kids. Bullying should never be allowed and taken lightly and here it is. You are made to feel like you are the problem. I will be voicing my concerns. I am glad my daughter knows how to defend herself very well. I am sure if that little girl ever came across my daughter again, she would think twice before spitting and making nasty racial comments. That is not how I'm raising my daughter. You do not disrespect anyone based on them being of a different race. You judge someone by their character, not the color of their skin. No one can help how they were born, but you can surely control your character. It is sad when I have to defend my daughter because the adults there wanted to make light of a serious situation. I know of two kids who were pulled out of their program. And my nephew was pulled out of the program as well after his parents heard what took place and how the situation was handled. Side Note: Later, the director tried to request me to connect on LinkedIn. LMBO. I know he did not recognize me. I quickly declined.

The coffee was also a standout. What really stuck with me, though, was learning more about the organization. I had so many questions, and hearing about what they do and the impact they make was genuinely interesting and inspiring. She told me about becoming a member and the fundraising and events involved. If you know an existing member, you can get them to sponsor you when you join. Luckily, she knew someone. Fast forward a year later, and she was able to book the Junior League for her reception. It is located right next to the Houston Grand Hotel River Oaks (formerly St. Regis), which is convenient because it's walking distance to where we stayed. There's a parking garage next to the entrance. You walk in, and it's simply beautiful inside. Each room is adorned in a different color or wallpaper, furniture, and artwork. It's that old money timeless vibe like the Hamptons. It fit my friend quite well for her style. Everyone at the reception took photos in every room...including the restroom which has an emerald green chaise in the sitting room. There were only 2 stalls in the women's restroom though. We had cocktail hour in a separate room, and there were little bars set up. The servers greeted us with wine or champagne. There were also sodas for nonalcoholic options. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious. They served breaded spinach and artichoke bites with horseradish dip, mini bruschetta, and mini skewers of olive, cheese and deli meat. I ate a ton of the spinach and artichoke bites. Lol. When it was time to enter the dining hall, a staff member played a xylophone repeatedly to indicate it was time for dinner service. It was similar to when you need to go back to your seat at the theater. The ballroom area itself was beautiful with all the chandeliers. I'd say it fits about 150-200 people depending on the table and seats you choose. There was a small dance floor near the stage with their wedding logo on the floor. They happened to have a live band which was amazing. They played for 2-3 hours straight a quarter after midnight, and everyone danced and sang the night away. The staff was amazing and attentive. The food was delicious, and the steaks were surprisingly cooked so well that you could cut the filet with a butter knife. I was skeptical at first. After dinner, they served coffee. I asked for tea, and they brought me a whole teapot and earl grey. The lead person overseeing the Junior League was so cool, and by the end of the night, she thanked us because this was the most smooth and respectful group of guests and wedding party she's seen come through. Yay! It was a wonderful celebration of love. The Junior League is the perfect place to have a wedding reception or event. I highly recommend. I'd like to look into some of their events and fundraisers. I tried to see if there were any CPR classes, but their website hasn't been updated. I was able to get a free one anyway.

For such a nice park, it is surprising that there are no restrooms. There is construction going on directly adjacent to the park. As in, the noise is deafening and dust flies into your lungs on one part of the trail because you are a few feet away from major construction. Although it looks like a mine, and I wouldn't be surprised if they are drilling for something.

And an outter loop that is not covered much at all. It was wonderful to relax and enjoy nature. There was a good amount of people there. Families, bird watching groups, etc. My only gripe is the $6.50 parking, which I wish was free, but I guess only public parks have free parking. I think it might be on one day of the week. You only get free access to parking if you pay to become a member. Will definitely return.
