This photo is one for those voting for one particular party, whereas the line for the other political party was quite short. They are well staffed with helpful volunteers who direct, encourage,and thank you for voting. It's so organized. Aside from voting, this center does great things for the community and their changing needs. The avenues of addressing these needs varies as government policies change. This makes me even more committed to voting here. They do so much for Harris county, and the least I can do is show up to vote. Grateful for Ripley and all who actualize it.

I was invited to come here for one of their legal classes. It was very nice to see how accommodating they are towards their community. This particular class consisted of mainly seniors. I had the gluten-free mushroom chicken, and for a healthier option, it was solid. Everyone else seemed to love the taco salad, and those cinnamon rolls they bring out? So good. The coffee was also a standout. What really stuck with me, though, was learning more about the organization. I had so many questions, and hearing about what they do and the impact they make was genuinely interesting and inspiring. She told me about becoming a member and the fundraising and events involved. If you know an existing member, you can get them to sponsor you when you join. Luckily, she knew someone. Fast forward a year later, and she was able to book the Junior League for her reception. It is located right next to the Houston Grand Hotel River Oaks (formerly St. Regis), which is convenient because it's walking distance to where we stayed. There's a parking garage next to the entrance. You walk in, and it's simply beautiful inside. Each room is adorned in a different color or wallpaper, furniture, and artwork. It's that old money timeless vibe like the Hamptons. It fit my friend quite well for her style. Everyone at the reception took photos in every room...including the restroom which has an emerald green chaise in the sitting room. There were only 2 stalls in the women's restroom though. We had cocktail hour in a separate room, and there were little bars set up. The servers greeted us with wine or champagne. There were also sodas for nonalcoholic options. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious. They served breaded spinach and artichoke bites with horseradish dip, mini bruschetta, and mini skewers of olive, cheese and deli meat. I ate a ton of the spinach and artichoke bites. Lol. When it was time to enter the dining hall, a staff member played a xylophone repeatedly to indicate it was time for dinner service. It was similar to when you need to go back to your seat at the theater. The ballroom area itself was beautiful with all the chandeliers. I'd say it fits about 150-200 people depending on the table and seats you choose. There was a small dance floor near the stage with their wedding logo on the floor. They happened to have a live band which was amazing. They played for 2-3 hours straight a quarter after midnight, and everyone danced and sang the night away. The staff was amazing and attentive. The food was delicious, and the steaks were surprisingly cooked so well that you could cut the filet with a butter knife. I was skeptical at first. After dinner, they served coffee. I asked for tea, and they brought me a whole teapot and earl grey. The lead person overseeing the Junior League was so cool, and by the end of the night, she thanked us because this was the most smooth and respectful group of guests and wedding party she's seen come through. Yay! It was a wonderful celebration of love. The Junior League is the perfect place to have a wedding reception or event. I highly recommend. I'd like to look into some of their events and fundraisers. I tried to see if there were any CPR classes, but their website hasn't been updated. I was able to get a free one anyway.

I have volunteered in their sorting room and packaging area, both are a lot of fun and, full disclosure, can be hard work - but it is so rewarding! Large parking lot on site. You are not allowed to bring anything in to the volunteer areas with you, so they have lockers to use for free during your shift.

My wife was needing surgery for her cancer and we were there waiting for that. Unfortunately the surgery got canceled and we had to go back home. Also it's very very unfortunate that so many people are needing this type of environment and support for the situations they're in and the availability to get back into the Ballard House after the hospital rescheduled her surgery was mute. No vacancies. It's so sad that SO many people are hurting and need this service. Unfortunately I'm recommending The Ballard House for anyone who needs it because it's a wonderful place to stay. I say unfortunately because I'm in need of a place to stay for the next two weeks and I'm having to look elsewhere than the Ballard House to stay. Love this place and the Volunteers are a God sent.
