The food is alright. The price is relatively steep. The service is below average. No comment about ambiance.

Today we finally made it to have lunch here. The scallion pancakes were so flaky and crispy and well layered. It was so good as is and no need additional sauce. Their beef stew noodles got some kicks even I ordered it as less spicy. Just right amount of heat for my daughter's palette. The beef slices were so tender and just fell apart. Their Xiao Long Bao was very good. Thin skin and full of flavors. Service was all done with QR ordering and online payment via Toast. Convenient and east. Once order was confirmed, food didn't take long to show up. Definitely would come back again!

There is no need to wait for menus...it's on your phone! I was previously able to come here with family and try the food...I went back because it was so good This time I was able try additional dishes... Xiao long bao Pan fried dumplings Shrimp and pork wonton soup Sauteed string beans Beef with rice cake Hot and sour soup The only real disappointment of the dishes was the hot and sour soup...it just didn't taste the way I wanted. The xiao long bao and pan fried dumplings are a staple...so tasty and juicy The shrimp and wonton soup was good, but the sauteed green beans were addictive. I plan on getting these every time. The beef and rice cake was good but not sure if I would get it again...there are so many other choices on the menu... I was also able to take frozen dumplings home to eat later. They were perfect for wonton soup in a pinch. This is a yummy place to eat, but getting there early helps to eliminate the wait...they do get busy Enjoy!

When I called to complain, the host told me I had to bring the full noodle dish back to the restaurant in order to get a refund. I actually took the time to drive back and return the food exactly as requested. They took the food and mentioned all refund was handled by owner and he was not in that day. Hence they asked me to wait for couple days and promised the refund would be processed. It never happened even after two weeks. I tried to call few times but they never really picked up the phone and can't reach them. It's bad enough to serve spoiled food, but making a customer drive back to return a ruined to-go order and then lying about the refund is completely shameless. They literally took the food back and kept my money. Avoid this place at all costs.

Now 1 person in the kitchen, 1 person hosting and waiting for front of house. We waited 1 hour for our desert, only to come back and tell us that he cancelled it because it's no longer on the menu, even though we ordered it from the digital menu that you view from the barcode on the table. The waitors always seem overly stressed, most likely due to the restaurant being understaffed. We had to keep asking and reminding the waiter for to go boxes or other request.

A friend brought us to try this noodle spot in Lake Forest…read more This restaurant is part of the Shang Shui group, which has two locations next to each other. We visited the simpler Shang Shui Noodle House(Frank's dumplings and noodles) while the restaurant next door, Shang Shui Bistro(Frank's bistro Chinese cuisine) , focuses more on elevated Hunan and Cantonese dishes. Once we walked in, we could just find a seat and order through the QR code menu. It was convenient since we could take our time looking through the options. We ordered: 1. Roasted Duck Noodle Soup $19.99 2. House Special Fish Fillet Noodle Soup $15.99 3. Pork Knuckle Noodle Soup $16.99 Everything tasted pretty good! I ordered the signature fish fillet noodle soup, which was one of their recommended dishes. My husband thought the fish soup had the best flavor among the three dishes we tried. The portions were just right, and the prices were very reasonable. For the noodles, I would recommend choosing udon or ramen. My husband and our friend chose rice noodles, but they became too soft and broke apart easily when picking them up with chopsticks. After dinner, we stopped by Frank's bistro Chinese cuisine next door to take a look. The interior is much more upscale, and they also use a QR code menu. Most dishes are around $20 and up. We chatted with one of the staff members, who mentioned that they opened in August last year and focus on authentic Cantonese and Hunan cuisine. He was also proud to share that their dishes are freshly prepared, not the typical pre-made food you might find elsewhere. Will definitely come back to try the dishes at Shang Shui Bistro next time. Sharing this spot for anyone looking for Chinese noodles or authentic Chinese cuisine in the area! Frank's Dumplings & Noodles 20651 Lake Forest Dr STE A-102, Lake Forest, CA 92630

It's been awhile so I'm willing to give it another shot. Plenty of parking outside, the restaurant itself is really cute with tasteful decor. You order with a QR menu from the table. We ordered fish noodle soup, the 3 dumplings and soy sauce chicken with rice. Everything was pretty good! The fish noodle soup had a good fish profile in the soup, with a kick of white pepper which I liked. It tasted clean and healthy. The dumplings were really good. It definitely tasted like in house made dumplings. Much better quality than other restaurants in the area. The soy sauce chicken rice wasn't bad. But I thought the price was a little egregious. It should be max $15. All in all I'm glad we gave this "chain" another chance.

I think some of the negative comments about Frank's BBQ come from different expectations of what…read moretraditional Chinese barbecue should be. In Chinese cuisine, some barbecue meats and cold dishes are prepared in advance and may be served at room temperature or reheated before serving. Using a microwave does not automatically mean the food is low quality or not fresh. It can simply be part of the serving process. Chicken and duck are also commonly chopped and served with the bones still inside. This is a very traditional way of preparing and serving these meats, although customers who are unfamiliar with this style may find it inconvenient. The food here tastes authentic, and in my opinion, Frank's BBQ is one of the best traditional Chinese barbecue restaurants in Orange County. It may not match everyone's personal preferences, but I think it is important to understand the culture and preparation style before unfairly criticizing the restaurant or calling the food bad.

One thing I found odd is when we ordered the sweet and sour soup, they asked if we wanted them to microwave it in the plastic takeout container so it would stay warm for the drive home.
