She hasn't had catheter care in 10days etc.... Jesse was great as well as staff but there's no direction. I have pulled her because she's weaker than when she was admitted. It's truly sad. Now we are home and struggling to care for her. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED INES HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Case management and business staff was almost impossible to communicate with. I am my mother's medical power of attorney and was not included in discharge planning, Appeared medical staff was not even familiar with my mother's medical history. During one meeting, case manager did not even appear to have reviewed my mother's records and believes she had diabetes. She has never had diabetes. The day she was discharged, I learned that she had not been given her daily medications, and they actually lost the medication she was to be discharged with. Finally, we were due for a refund, as she discharged prior to the fees that had already been paid. This was only $400 but when your parent, lives on a fixed income, stealing from my elderly parent is egregious. I have made multiple attempts to reach out to management, left emails, messages, filed a complaint with the BBB as well as the Attorney General's Office and have not received even a phone call. At first appearance, the place is clean and presentable but would not even trust this place with my pet. I am currently employed as a SW/CM and understand how this is supposed to work. This is not it.

It's 6 hours a day of education, great food, beds are very comfortable and the property doesn't make you feel confined. You can keep your cell and laptop, just not turned on in classes. You are set up with aftercare so you have a sustainable plan moving forward along with the tools to succeed where most don't. With over 40% of our nation addicted to some sort of substance and 60% of our country prescribed an Anxiety or Depression R/X, you don't need to feel bad about getting help. Scientists have proven addiction to alcohol is a destructive disease & there is treatment that can set you up for your new life. If it was Diabetes, or Cancer, you would get help immediately. Addiction is no different and doesn't care how old you are, the color of your skin, nor does it matter if you are a Doctor or Lawyer. I am surrounded by people of all sorts and you won't want to leave after 4 weeks, the path forward is clear by then but this will be something you have to work on for the rest of your life. Best Wishes to the Staff here & for the reader, it's a small investment for your future that you can do for yourself & your family..

This review is for Brookdale on Jones Maltsberger. Before deciding to place a loved one at this…read morefacility, please read this review and look up "lawsuits against Brookdale Senior Living." This is a Type B facility, meaning it should be able to provide 24/7 care for residents with limited mobility. My mom stayed here only a little over a month and experienced what we believe was neglect along with verbal and financial abuse. Shortly after moving in, she suffered an injury that left her barely able to walk due to severe pain. We quickly learned this facility could not provide the compassionate and attentive care they claimed they could. During this time, Brookdale leadership suggested hospice and convinced me, while I was emotionally distraught, to add medication dispensing and grooming services. I left that meeting emotionally drained with an additional $1,000 added to my mother's monthly bill believing she would receive the care she needed. I was wrong and looking back, the experience felt predatory. Most second shifts (2-10 p.m.) had only two caregivers for the facility and no supervisor present. Even during first shift, caregivers appeared overwhelmed and rushed. If my mother was asleep, meals were sometimes left out of her reach. I once found Desitin in her toothbrush, and one weekend, she was left in the same nightgown from Friday through Sunday. She often waited 1-2 hours for call requests to be answered, and one night her call went unanswered for six hours. If she had fallen or experienced a medical emergency, help may not have arrived in time. The final turning point came when a caregiver verbally intimidated my mother for using her call button. While my mother was in pain in bed, the caregiver leaned over her and told her to stop pressing the button because they had many other residents to care for and "everyone pays for extra services." After this, my mother became afraid to ask for help during second shift. Her hospice nurse later told me the staff could not care for her appropriately and recommended a personal care home instead. I moved my mother out as quickly as possible. She is now thriving in a personal care home where she is treated with dignity and respect, something that was severely lacking during our experience at Brookdale on Jones Maltsberger. I did not immediately report the verbal abuse because my mother feared retaliation while she still lived there. Instead, I focused on getting her somewhere safe. The fact that she feared retaliation at all says a great deal about the environment there. I have since submitted detailed reports to authorities and included contact information for family, friends, and clinicians who witnessed these issues. Because Brookdale could not adequately care for her, I obtained a support letter from the hospice physician requesting a 14-day notice instead of the full 30 days. The Executive Director rejected this request, insisting the facility could meet her needs despite the serious issues occurring during second shift. I also asked them to consider refunding at least part of the $2,000 community fee my mother paid given she was barely there a month and left under these circumstances, but this was also rejected. Additionally, despite revoking authorization for automatic withdrawals, Brookdale still attempted to withdraw a large disputed amount that would have placed my mom at a deficit if I hadn't already placed a stop payment on Brookdale. I was present at this facility almost daily and my mother was still verbally abused and neglected. I worry deeply about residents who are even more vulnerable because not everyone has someone to advocate for them the way I could for my mother. No family should ever have to wonder whether their loved one is being ignored, humiliated, or left to suffer behind a very costly closed door.

Before he got here I toured the San Marcos offerings and decided on Brookdale SMS and both he and I are happy with the choice. Yes, the building is plain but I learned from Cincinnati that you have to look under the hood and that's where Brookdale shines. Everyone I've encountered goes out of their way to make sure Dad is happy and healthy and keeps me up to date with anything of significance happening in his life. The senior staff are professional and responsive and the aides are pleasant and competent. The low turnover rate of the staff is an indicator of a well run facility, especially in such a demanding field. I felt assured in the Covid-19 precautions and the proof of their efficacy was zero cases, staff and residents; a friend's mother died of Covid in a nearby facility. We would make the same choice again and highly recommend Brookdale San Marcos South.
