In September 2018…read moreHurricane Florence hit; our home did not flood but was badly damaged, eg: roof damage, collapsed interior ceilings, etc. The damage to homes caused by Florence was extensive in our area and my husband & I realized supplies and contractors would be in short supply. So, we made the decision to pack up our Ford pickup w/tools and supplies along with our 26' RV trailer in tow, and 2 dogs, we drove from San Diego, CA to Jacksonville, NC in 5 days to meet up with our claims adjustor. We looked like the Beverly Hillbillies. After several days of cleanup and hearing discouraging reports that supplies and contractors were in short supply, our ray of light and hope emerged when we met Carey, the owner of Under One Roof Construction. I had seen him drive up to inspect the roof across the street from us. My husband & I made it a point to talk with him to see if he could help us out. We immediately took a liking to Carey. Knowledgeable. Easy going. Established family business. Carey, gave us a reasonable roof estimate; we gave him the job. Carey brought out his roofing crew, some who had been with him over 10 years; you could tell how they instinctively worked together. They installed a new beautiful roof. He and his crew were very professional. They picked up all their construction mess and used a magnetized roller to pick up any roofing nails in their work area. We were quite impressed w/their roof competency, products, and warranty that we asked Carey if he had a construction crew who could help us with the damaged interior work. Carey, again, came through; he worked us in to his VERY tight schedule. So, we contracted w/him for the interior damage caused by Florence, including interior sheetrock tear down, installing new insulation, rehung new sheetrock on the ceilings, interior priming and painting, etc. Carey and his crews did all the big stuff. We are forever grateful. 3 months of exhaustive labor took its toll on my husband (70 yrs old) and myself (64 yrs old). The events that led up and followed with Carey coming to our aid was literally an answered prayer; a small miracle. In addition to Carey, we recognized several small miracles during our Florence trip including our drive back home when our truck broke down in Anniston, AL a week before Christmas Eve....but that's another adventure, for another day.

The estimate was scheduled promptly and the estimator was friendly but kept pushing drippage rails on us saying it required by NC building codes and we would not get a warranty on the new roof if it was not installed which we found out later was not true. It is RECOMMNEDED but not required by NC building codes. On top of that their estimate was the highest of all the estimates we received and $3,300 higher than the roofing company we went with to install our new roof. That's a lot of money we saved to put into another project on the house. Follow up to owner's comments: If drip rails are required by Nc building code as you claim then why did none of the other estimates we received even mention them?? Much less tell us that we needed them to get the warranty on our new roof? Maybe that why your estimate was so much higher than any of the other estimates we received.

John explained what was involved: synthetic underlayment, ice and water barrier, ridge vent, drip edge, a couple sheets of decking and a day and a half later the whole thing looks good as new - because it is! They cleaned up nice too; no scraps or bit or pieces or wrappers or anything laying around; a little raking, some blowering, and a couple guys did a couple passes with the nail finders and the place looks a little better than when they showed up. Good news/bad news: they do such nice work that I'm probably never going to see these guys again.

Working with Secure Roofing has been an absolute nightmare. What started as a straightforward…read moreproject has turned into months of missed deadlines, broken promises, and zero accountability. Our install date was in July of this year, as of October 25th the work is still not complete. Despite initially committing to repair the under-hang for our gutters and provide a chimney cap for the chimney, they have consistently failed to complete the work - without providing any updates or reasons for the delay. Every "estimated completion date" has been a false promise, forcing us to chase them down for any kind of response. To add insult to injury, Secure Roofing filed a request with our insurance company for a higher payout than our signed contract stated, without informing us of any additional charges. When we rightfully held off on final payment until they completed the work, they began sending us threatening emails, warning of court action and even accusing us of insurance fraud - all while the money sits, ready to be paid upon actual project completion. This company has not only failed to fulfill their contractual obligations but has also resorted to intimidation tactics to try to collect payment for work that remains incomplete. We have in writing (from one of their employees) what they were going to do and even after submitting that information they still did not resolve the issue. All we want is what was promised to us. We're not asking for anything extra. We are appalled by their unprofessionalism and unethical behavior and strongly advise anyone considering their services to look elsewhere. Do not trust this company with your home or your money."
