I will admit that the first visit wasn't that great due to my anxiety and panic attacks, and due to that they were only able to remove one. Dr. Sherman saw how much pain I was in, and was willing to put me under at St. Thomas Surgicare and remove the rest of the chalazions. I agreed to it, and the surgery was a success. I have been going back for follow-up appointments since then, and everything is looking great so far! :) One big plus was that my insurance company was giving us a hard time with covering the surgery, but the office staff kept calling and nagging them about it until they agreed to cover it. This made me very happy!

For years, my eye doctor told me I was not a likely candidate for lasik. After an eye infection, I was subject to wearing glasses daily, with vision so poor I could not function unless wearing my glasses/prescription sunglasses. Enjoying time by the pool, outdoor activities, a day at the lake...better make sure you have a back up pair of glasses! Ever try snowmobiling in -14' weather with glasses behind your mask? Years of extended wear contacts and the subsequent GPC infection left me with extreme dry eye, which I had become accustomed to living with after MULTIPLE visits to my eye doctor and specialists with no relief. A poolside conversation with friends (with me in fogged up glasses) led me to look deeper into lasik, regardless of what I had been told. She recommended Dr. Horn and raved about her experience; so, he was added to the short list. He was also the #1 rated lasik doctor on my healthcare providers website, based on patient reviews. After narrowing the list to Dr. Loden and Dr. Horn (Wang was never on my list due to the LARGE number of people I have known personally who've had issues with their eyes after visiting Dr. Wang), consultations ensued and Dr. Horn was the clear choice. Dr. Horn would not operate on me unless we could successfully treat my dry eye. He could have easily done lasik, taken my money, and told me to continue living with dry eye but refused to start me behind the line knowing how common dry eye is post lasik. He cared about my results. After about a month of his recommended regime, I was ready for lasik. I was nervous; but, Dr. Horn and his staff were extremely patient and spent all the time I needed answering every single question and concern I had. I had the procedure September 7, 2017. Best $2,500 I have ever spent! Day of surgery was exciting and scary but the process is really as swift and painless as they claim. That evening I had light sensitivity and was scratchy if my eyes were open but not super uncomfortable. I awoke the next morning with brand new eyes! Went to my follow up that morning and drove myself home. The worst part of the experience was putting drops in every 15-20 minutes the first post-op day. I needed drops on hand at all times for the first few weeks to keep the dry eye at bay...moved to morning/night only after 2-3 weeks and now only need them when extremely tired or when my allergies are acting up. Had another follow up visit this week...still in love with my 20/15 vision and have not yet had to move to readers for my up close vision, although that will come at some point. I believe having readers stashed everywhere will be less restricting on my life than being unable to go about my day without being in glasses. Since my procedure, I have referred MULTIPLE friends to Dr. Horn and all have been extremely satisfied with their visits and procedures, getting the same over the top customer service and respect I did. Dr. Skelo and her office team went out of their way to get me in at times which worked for me. At the office there was a minimal wait and Dr. Skelo spent time with me going over my tests, checking all options, and most importantly making sure she explained everything in a way I could understand. Dr. Skelo has a talent for ophthalmology and cares that I understand everything that is going on with my eyes - the good and the bad. It's never a mystery and I'm able to explain to my loved ones what's going on too. As for results, Dr. Skelo always finds a solution for my issues and I always leave her office feeling and seeing better. Highly recommend!

Unfortunately, when scheduling my appointment they failed to tell me that out of state insurance providers could not be contacted on Sundays. OK. Slight miscommunication leading to an hour of wasted time. Not a huge deal. Finally, after agreeing to pay the full bill and Visionworks planning to call my insurance first thing Monday morning, I received my exam. Frustratingly enough, they had to order trials of my prescription for me to wear before they could write my prescription. Fine. So be it. But wait... Why am I being charged for an eyeglasses exam that I clearly never asked for? I mean, you guys just scanned a copy 15 minutes prior of the eyeglasses prescription that I got from another Visionworks office while visiting family in New York last week. Oh that's right, because you are scamming me. Got it. After days of back and forth, Pam the manager finally agreed to remove the eyeglasses exam from my bill. She also scheduled me to come in the very next Thursday to see a new doctor because of some inexplicable reason about my prescription. Even after asking her to detail what the problem was, she basically lost all function to be coherent. Weird, but I let it go. Thursday rolls around and I arrive for my appointment. From the get go, the male receptionist looked panicked. Great...here we go. "The trials aren't in yet...I'm really not sure why you were scheduled to come in." Needless to say, I was pissed. I told them that they were 0 for 2 on my visits and stormed out. After about 4-5 days I called back and explained my situation to a female receptionist. No apology. I asked for Pam, who wasn't available. So I called back the next day and was greeted by Daniel, who I assume was the receptionist who I'd seen at my last visit. Again, I explained how frustrated and disappointed I was with their customer service. No apology. Seriously?! At that point I straight-up called him out. "Isn't apologizing to an unhappy customer a pretty decent and human thing to do?" There was a silence. Then he replied, "Hold on." Click. Puts me on hold. !!!!?!?!!!!!!!!!???? Finally he picks up and says something about my trial lenses not being in and to try calling back tomorrow. Well, today is tomorrow. Nowhere closer to my prescription or a sane situation with these clowns. I keep looking around to see if there are cameras in the bushes or Ashton Kutcher creeping up behind me, but that would merely make too much sense compared to the sh*t show that has been this experience thus far. And it ain't even over! Le sigh. So again, avoid at all costs or be prepared for a master class in atrocious customer service.

The sales people were so nice and helpful despite being crazy busy - the selection was good and the gentleman helped us both to pick out the best frames. He also gave great advice on the options for lenses and add-ons and helped us in selecting the best sale of the several offered that day so that we got $1200 for $498!!! They said it would take two weeks for the glasses to come in but he called us less than one week later saying our's had arrived - and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. They scheduled me with an optometrist instead, and I didn't find that out until the day of my appointment. I called to verify the type of provider, and the receptionist lied to me saying the provider was an ophthalmologist, which is not the case. I have a high deductible insurance plan and would have had to pay for the whole exam out of pocket. I hope they can do a better job not misrepresenting themselves in the future.

After getting dilated and having a basic exam, the doctor informed me that I did not have enough scar tissue to warrant the procedure and suggested if my vision gets worse and may have to be done in the future. A doctor and his crack staff of technicians did a superb job and came up with the solution that I did not need their services. This is medical care at its finest. I recommend this group to anyone that needs specialized eyecare.
