I was craving Rocky Road yesterday evening really bad. I saw that they delivered, and I've been here in person before and liked it, so I figured-Perfect! I bought 2 pints and two sprinkle waffle cones. I mixed one pint with butter pecan and salted caramel pretzel, and I don't know what I created, but good GOD, thanks for giving me the vision! Just visited this ice cream shop with my grandkids. We entered the shop at 9:35 pm for ice cream and after asking the young man if they were open he rudely stated I really wish we were not. He continued to respond in a rude and bothered manner and was clearly angry that we came in for ice cream. He did say that they were closing at 10pm and we did leave at 9:55 pm. While We did enjoy the ice cream the customer service was awful. This was a relatively impromptu dessert chosen by my chosen accompaniment for the night. I will say she is sometimes ice cream-biased, and so this became our downtown Montclair destination. Right away I was impressed by the gelati. The ice cream flavors are I'm sure made in house but are more typical, some have colors mixed in, cones aren't made in house. Standard ice cream place. Let's just move on and ignore the ice cream part that isn't even in their name. Because 5 stars is ENTIRELY gelato based. *Bitter cherry: They were out of it but willingly scooped the couple of spoonfuls off the container for me to try. It's what it sounds like and definitely not a normal American flavor. * Blueberry basil: My favorite! Lemony, not as sweet as other flavors, the basil pairs perfectly in there for this to be both sweet and savory at the same time. Would absolutely get this every time. * Amaretto (or something along those lines): Very deep flavor. Date's favorite. My second favorite and I don't even like amaretto, but in gelato form it is very high on the list. * Stracciatella: Date's choice of flavor but in the end relatively plain, just vanilla with chocolate flakes in it. It's more subtle than vanilla chip ice cream but otherwise relatively generic flavor - and that's not to knock Guerriero, just the flavor itself is not something I'd go for anywhere if I want unique gelati. * Tiramisu: In hindsight maybe I should've grabbed the baci chocolate, but I grabbed this instead. Again, a bit more generic, not with the depth of subtle flavors I would have expected from an Italian dish turned into an Italian dessert. Service is very friendly, they let you taste things, they explain everything and work with you. The place is a nice size, has a restroom, flavors listed well. The one ice cream we had was not one of their regulars, so I do not actually remember what it was called. It was good. It wasn't artificial. It was homemade. I appreciated that (plus date letting me try it!). All in all, I think the combination of such good gelato options plus the service is what puts this over the top for a relatively not outrageous price (considering location). G-o for it! read more

This place used to be our FAVORITE every Friday spot to go to or whenever we were craving ice cream or whenever we wanted to treat our dog. We would ALWAYS bring our golden retriever because they welcomed him with open arms. But not today. Today someone new who we've never seen before rejected us and told us we had to leave. I had my sweet tooth raging for some dope ice cream and I googled some of the top 3 results and picked here instantly. The place itself is very homey and cozy. The various flavors are insane too. The dairy free list is insanely interesting (coming from a non-vegan eater) I got a cone with their vegan mint chip and vegan oreo and a pint of their blood orange, guava, lemon, and mango sorbet (all vegan). This is a personnel review. I haven't yet been to Guerriero Gelato (I don't live near Montclair) but the other day -- a Saturday night at 10:40 PM -- I received an email receipt saying I had purchased gelato there. I called the store to determine if this was a scammer who had somehow used my info or if it was a software glitch in Square (Square handles their transactions). The manager, Kevin, took my call and was very helpful in trying to track down the purchase. It looked like it was a software glitch, not a fraudulent purchase, and he said he'd follow up this issue with Guerriero's owner. He also suggested I forward the email receipt to Guerriero's so that the owner could work with it. Within minutes, I heard back from Chris, who I think may be the owner, telling me he was going to follow up on this ASAP and reassuring me that Guerriero's was going to make sure everything was cleared up so that I wouldn't worry about what happened. Then very soon after that, I got another email from Chris, telling me he was able to speak to Square (since they're on Pacific time) and they said that this was definitely a software glitch and not any kind of personal security breach. My email was in the Square database and somehow it got wrongly linked to the purchaser of the gelato. Square said they'd fix that error. What stood out was how obviously concerned Chris (and Kevin) were that I not be worried. It was kind of amazing really. I was prepared to wait until Monday and hopefully hear from them at that time. But there they were, around closing time on a Saturday night, making sure the matter was resolved and that I would not be worried. The next time I'm in Montclair I am DEFINITELY going to check out their gelato! read more
