This place is special. My wife and I stopped by Guerriero Gelato in Caldwell after hearing great things, and it absolutely lived up to the hype--and then some. Not only did we get to enjoy some of the best gelato we've ever had, but we also had the chance to go behind the scenes and learn about the process. Watching everything made from scratch gave me a whole new appreciation for this craft. The flavors were phenomenal: Mango was juicy and bright Espresso Chip had that bold coffee kick with perfect texture Blueberry Basil was fresh and a little unexpected (in the best way) Coconut was creamy and clean Vanilla Chip (Stracciatella) had delicate chocolate ribbons in a velvety vanilla base--pure perfection The flavors were so delicious, we forgot to take pictures--but we did leave with 5 pints. One of them was Fat Elvis, which tastes like a frozen peanut butter Reese's in the best possible way. Also worth noting: the entire kitchen and shop were spotless. Everything was so clean and organized, it instantly made us trust the freshness and quality of every flavor even more. Mike and Breanna have built something beautiful here, and you can feel their heart in every detail. Also want to give a shoutout to Amanda, who helps bring the story of this place to life online--what you see on social media is truly real. If you're thinking about going--go. Staff friendly and accommodating. Had so many gelatos to select from. Got a sample of the Chocolate Raspberry- that is definitely a winner. Got the three scoops of gelato in a cup. *Baci Chocolate- If you love Baci Perugina- this is the one to get. *Chocolate Raspberry what a blend. *Pistachio- nice balance. I think I over did it with the chocolates. There were chairs and tables in another area where you can sit and enjoy your treats. There were wall hangings and tons of articles- magazine, news clipping, etc... about Guerriero Gelato. Love the purple color tables and chairs. Even the door to the bathroom is purple. Awesome Ambiance with music playing in the background to enjoy your sweet treats. I am definitely a fan. I was in Aruba last year and had the Gelatissimo Artisanal Gelato. Guerriero Gelato is an absolute gem! As a diabetic, it's incredibly tough to find sugar-free ice cream that's actually delicious but Guerriero has it down. They always have a rotating mix of sugar-free flavors, and every one I've tried has been amazing. What really sets them apart is the customer service. I had the chance to chat with the owner, Mike, who went out of his way to make sure my favorite flavor--coffee chip--was ready with barely any notice. That kind of effort and care is so rare these days. Also, don't skip the flavor specials! The Elvis is easily one of the best ice cream flavors I've ever had, seriously, 11/10. Well worth the trek! Their flavors all sound delicious! My favorite - Cherry Vanilla (Amarena): Classic Tahitian Vanilla Bean Gelato, with the imported Amarena (sour cherries) is outstanding! I wanted to try rum raisin (what am I 70?) but they only sell it at another location so if there is a flavor you seek, be sure to call ahead to make sure they have it. Even if they don't, tons of other flavors to choose from. The kids love it too - we sneak in some dairy free options that they can't taste the difference! Although son loves his mint chip (blah). There is seating on the side as well as some benches outside. Large parking lot too. It's a busy road so making a left out of it is a bit tricky. Enjoy! read more

Ice cream and gelato are decent. I visited around 7:45 PM on Tuesday 4/8/25 and there was 1 kid working register when a line formed. Kid called for help and whoever came out to help him (30-40 year old woman with brown hair, seemed to be a manager) had such a miserable attitude that it immediately became very tense and uncomfortable in the store. She very much seemed bothered by customers being there and it made my experience very unpleasant! Awful ice cream. The ice cream containers look like they hadn't been refreshed in months and everything looked so unappetizing. Should have known better cuz the ice cream itself was horrible. After coming here for the second time to try their gelato ice cream, I think 3 stars best describes this place. The blueberry basil gelato was very unique. The blueberry and basil flavor are very strong, you can even taste the bits of basil sprinkled in the gelato. However, the cannoli gelato wasn't very good. The gelato wasn't smooth at all, the consistency was similar to regular hard ice cream. The flavor of the cannoli just tasted like vanilla. My family, friends, and I came in late Tuesday night for ice cream after having dinner at a local Indian restaurant-Tashan. The creamy ice cream was a perfect end to a fun night out and we were glad to find this place open past 9pm! I got Übe ice cream myself after taste testing several of their ice creams. It's totally different from traditional ice cream, less sugary but still very sweet, and definitely tasted as advertised - similar to the purple yam from the Philippines. I'll definitely be coming back for more! The other ice creams were more traditional but still had a unique twist. Check out my picture for the flavors they had that day. I tried the duck sauce ice cream too, but it was unusual and I didn't see myself enjoying a full scoop of that, but you should definitely ask for a sample when you go! The blueberry basil will probably be what I try next time I visit. Some of my friends got different water ice flavors and they were very refreshing. I took off one star because unfortunately there wasn't much space to move around. Having been to Gelotti's in Totowa/Paterson many times, I was hesitant to try the West Caldwell location. Would they have the same selection of flavors? Would the ice cream be just as fresh? Luckily everything was pretty much exactly the same as the original location, even the long lines. One plus is that while it was busy, it certainly did not even come close to how busy the original location gets. There was a good selection of flavors - the traditional mint chocolate chip, vanilla etc... as well as the more "exotic" or interesting flavors. Ice cream itself tasted exactly the same as the original location in terms of consistency, flavor & freshness. Gelotti's is one of the best places in the surrounding area. It's nice to have another location to visit. There is plenty of room to sit outside and enjoy your ice cream, as well as a few tables inside. read more

My friend and I were having dinner in the area and wanted ice cream after so we stopped here. I was worried about the bugs based on other helpers however luckily didn't witness this ourselves so we decided to stay and try it. I had the butter pecan and the vanilla peanut butter flavors. The latter was better but overall it was just ok. I don't like the setup because they don't have the flavors listed and once we got in line we couldn't look and see what they had until we were already ordering. Even then I never even saw the gelato case so I wasn't aware of the flavors. They should have a menu with flavors or set the line better so people can actually see what's available. read more

When I heard this place had vegan ice cream I was really excited! My friends have tried it and said it was good so we ordered it and a vegan shake with them again the other night. When it delivered, my friends said it looked completely different from what it looked like before so they must have changed it. It looked nothing like ice cream and just looked like weird slush. It also tasted horrible. Vegan Oat Cream: The new base is apparently oat based which is usually suuper creamy and similar look to dairy ice cream. This looked disgusting and it tasted just as bad. We had to throw the whole thing out. Vegan Oat Shake: My husband isn't picky at all and he tried it and immediately threw it away. It tasted like sugar slush. I completely understand that this place is trying to find a good option for people with allergies but it should also taste and good and be the right texture. Right now it looks nothing like the picture you advertise. Please bring back the other option and/or find a better oat alternative. There are sooo many great options out there! Also I need to add that they have changed their name, and the branding and naming is really all over the place and very confusing. It's the middle of a heat wave, I just won a softball game, and it my nieces birthday. What does that mean? Time for ice cream! Overwhelmed with excitement, we pulled up to gelati at 10:30 PM and the doors were closing. We thought our luck had run out, but NO! Matteo was right there to great us with a smile. I love how often they have something new to try, while at the same time always having our favorite go to choices. We ordered my son's birthday cake from here this past December, and he was VERY particular with what he wanted. They didn't even bat an eye and made a 7 year old very happy on his special day! I have not ordered ice cream from here in a long time. I came once during the beginning of the pandemic to try to order ice cream for my dad for his birthday since we've always loved this ice cream. I completely quarantined for two weeks to be able to see my parents, knowing I work in a high risk job, so this would be the last time I knew I would be able to see them until it got warmer outside. That was the first time I tried to order ice cream since the new owners took over. I tried to place an order on the phone and the new female owner gave me such an attitude that I never wanted to order from here again even though I always loved the ice cream here. Fast forward 1.5 years later, I decided to order again. I tried to do a curbside order for my ice cream, which costs over $6 (by the way for a small cup with sprinkles), but I couldn't place an order because a curbside order had to be at least $10! Seriously LOL what a freaking joke. Curbside is in place for those who are not able to come inside or do not feel comfortable to come inside, but you place a limit on that? Ridiculous, for someone wanting business. I decided to call and the person who I spoke to on the phone (who I later asked his name which was Mateo) was SOOO nice to me!!! He explained how the min curbside order was $10 but he told me he would be more than happy to take my order on the phone so I could be in and out in just a couple minutes. His whole explanation and demeanor was just SO nice! When I got inside and I told him my name, he was like oh of course I have your order right here and promptly checked me out. He told me the coupons I had in my account and that I could use them if I wanted. I asked him if I couple have a little bit more sprinkles on the ice cream because there was not a lot, and instead of making me open my whole ice cream, he just asked me if I wanted some in a mini cup on the side. And when I left he said have a good day and referred to me by name! I saw the way he was treating every customer in there - making suggestions, answering questions, and he actually turned my entire experience around. He wasn't just a friendly employee, he went above and beyond to be positive. I work in HR for a large company and if I worked around here I would have recruited him to work for my company. This review is all because of Mateo, and I would actually return again because of Mateo. Mateo, thank you. You clearly know the impact a positive attitude can have on a customer, whether they show gratitude or not. This looks like this isn't the first positive review you've gotten either. My husband and I took our 2 and 4 year old daughters to Gelotti tonight. My 4 year old had the cake batter ice cream that is white in color and has colored sprinkles. She ate the ice cream at a table. Her spoon never left the cup. She had the kid size cup and finished it quickly. When she finished, I took her cup to throw it away and much to my horror, there was a 2-3 inch slightly curly black hair in the bottom of her cup!! I should point out that we all have hair ranging in color from dark blonde to light blonde. Even the guy who dished out ice cream had dark blonde hair. I brought the cup with the black hair in it to the counter and told the guy who served us about the hair and gave him the cup with the hair in it. The shop was busy and the employee's response was basically "sorry." My husband and I are extremely disgusted. Update: Gelotti contacted my husband and emailed him a coupon to replace the cup of ice cream and apologized. I appreciate the gesture and the apology but after seeing a hair in the bottom of my four-year-old's cup of ice cream, it would be hard to go back. Hands down the BEST gelato and ice cream around. I'm a huge ice cream fan and compare any place I go to Gelotti- and nothing comes close. Highly suggest the Bacio, Nocciola, and Nutella for gelato. The Mint Oreo, Banana Oreo, S'mores, and Cookie Monster are the best ice creams. They also have amazing seasonal flavors, such as Pumpkin Pie. However, tonight's ice cream just turned me off. We visited their newest location in Pine brook. Got chocolate and Chocolate Mint Chip vegan flavor in a cup. Brought it home and halfway thru I bite on something I thought was a piece of plastic. It was a FINGERNAIL!!! Gross! That was the end of my ice cream. Honestly, the two young people scooping at the store were not wearing gloves which I think they should be. The last couple times I've been disappointed in Guerrero's between cake order gone wrong, worker asking if we want our change back (because she kept it as tip,) and now this fingernail. The quality of this place has consistently gone downhill in both quality and service. First, the kids behind the counter look like they're being inconvenienced by preparing my order. If the employees can't make a simple sundae with one flavor of ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream, then then owners need to retrain their staff or find employees who can. Who puts hot fudge OVER the whipped cream??? Second, I've had better ice cream from a supermarket carton. Two of three of the flavors we ordered were icy and not creamy at all. Third, the price is way out of step with what you get. The large is barely two scoops. I keep wanting this place to be what it used to be before it changed owners, and I have given several attempts to give them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, it just gets worse every time.
