Grounding Truth Holistic Guiding = 10+ stars!!!…read more Julz is an amazing human: she is so so knowledgeable, salt-of-the-earth, mountain-momma, caring and curious, a badass backcountry babe, approachable and appreciative, and a compassionate community curator. I've been backcountry skiing for 7 years (California, Colorado, Washington), and I participated in the season-long mentorship during the 22-23 season, and it was AHHHMAAZINGG!! I got to explore Baker Backcountry with 4 other mentees for 8 days over the season, with Julz as our mentor. We had real homework before everyday out (don't underestimate the breadth and depth (and time) of the AM Form!), evaluating the weather, Avy forecast, the run list, and creating a Terrain Contract. It was intense and so helpful. Our group mentorship in particular culminated in an overnighter on the backside of Table Mountain, where I got to sleep in my very first ever snow cave (created under Julz' guidance)! We all did so much learning, growing and appreciating that season. This season, 23-24, I have been to social meet and greets and community Avy awareness nights in Bellingham supported by Grounding Truth. I also just returned from the 1st Annual 5 day Grounding Truth Alumni Backcountry Hut trip at Fortune Peak Huts near Cle Elum. It was a huge learning opportunity for all of us, and we did a ton of exploring the terrain, digging snow pits, setting smart skin tracks, and choosing lines; in addition to AM and PM forms. We learned to really trust our intuition and understand that we can rely on Grounding Truth Alum tremendously...while capping it off with nightly debriefs and conversations in the wood-fired sauna. It was an experience that I will never forget. If you are curious about Grounding Truth programs, I would encourage you to sign up without hesitation. These are your people and the community you are craving! I am so happy and grateful to have Julz and all of my new GT friends in my life. Much love

Check their website for details, or visit their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BakerBus/ We used their service while visiting the area and our rental vehicle was not equipped for snow roads on the mountain. They are prompt, friendly, and reliable. Couldn't find any reviews for their services, so this review is being posted in case others are looking. Their bus service is basic at best. These are not luxury loungers, they are converted school buses from yesteryear. The buses have padded seats & interior heaters. They are equipped with a rack on the rear for hauling skis and snowboards. They are driven by friendly staff that know the mountain roads well. The service is CASH ONLY, and although their website says $10 per round trip ride, that is only to the lower White Salmon lodge on the mountain. A ride to the upper Heather Meadows lodge (which offers basic rentals & ski/snowboard lessons) will cost you $15 per round trip. When we rode during the December holiday, the bus was pretty full of young mostly snowboarders. They're cool, and fit the demographic of the service. If you're the wealthy skier type expecting premier service, this isn't for you. We drove our rental vehicle up to Kendall, WA, to the Starvin' Sams convenience store & parked along the edge of the lot. The bus showed up promptly at 7:45AM. While waiting to load, the driver gives the spiel about the cost and destinations. He's a cool dude and patiently answered our questions about which ski area to go to given our level of experience. Our ride up the mountain from Kendall included a stop at Glacier for a bus change since we were headed to Heather Meadows. We transferred on to a smaller bus of the same style for the ride to the ski area. On the way up, they have everyone fill in a sign-in sheet which they use to ensure everyone is accounted for before they leave at the end of the day. When we got to the ski area, some basic instructions were given regarding load & leave times, what to do if you leave early (or otherwise won't be taking the bus back) and how to access the bus during the day. After a great day of skiing, we piled back on to the bus at the designated load time and did a roll call to ensure everyone is accounted for before leaving. The bus arrives before the first lifts open and allowed us to get into the rental shop well before the main crowd. By the time we got our rentals & lift tickets, the lifts were opening up at 9:00AM. The lifts close by 3:30PM (no night skiing here). Load time is 3:00PM and departure is at 3:15PM. By 2:30 we were exhausted and ready to return the rentals and head to the bus. After a quick roll call to ensure everyone is on board, we headed back to Glacier & Kendall. I gave them a 4 star due to, well, they're not a luxury service. But for their friendliness, promptness and service, no complaints. Next time I'm in northwest Washington and plan to ski Baker, I'll be using their service again.

Kolby is an articulate, engaging weaver of tales, and her vintage costume added to the ambiance. She was armed with old photos of the buildings we discussed in our 1.5, one-ish mile tour. The photos were fascinating, because many of the buildings no longer exist, and the rest of them have been altered in the meantime. This was my second tour with Kolby, the first being a virtual tour of the Bayview Cemetery during Covid. My goal is to join all the tours at some point. The cost is well worth the value given, and it's a great thing to do when guests visit. Birthday present, anyone?

But still, co-owner and guide Wren Urbigkit felt compelled to tell us that cursing and cleavage are key components of the tours. Because some people have missed that memo. Those who see Bellingham as a politically-correct college town may experience strong reactions when they hear how the town came to be. Without sharing too many of the tour's secrets, here are a few insights: Working girls were seen as a necessary evil by some wives, to keep bearded, flannel-sporting young men away from their daughters. And their bosses, madams, were seen by colleagues of many male entrepreneurs. And for those who think Bellingham is experiencing crazy growth now, wait until you hear about the late 1800s! The tour wraps up with adult beverages at Stones Throw Brewery, which has a parking spot dedicated to one of the afore-mentioned madams, Miss Annie.
