I've crossed the bridge over the Nooksack River by car and have contemplated stopping to check it…read moreout for years. This weekend, I finally did. If you are headed east on Mt. Baker Highway, turn right just before you reach the roundabout. This single lane road will lead you past the WHS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, and then the road will turn rough with gravel. Keep going about 50 more yards, and on your left, you will find about 5 parking spots in front of a grassy field. Follow the trail sign and tree-lined path to the water where you will have spectacular views of snow-capped Mt. Baker. The Nooksack river will be flowing pretty fast all year long, but is more calm along the shoreline where you might consider dipping your toes during the summer. The cold river water will feel good on a hot day. Unfortunately, the beach is rocky, so bring some sturdy water shoes for navigating the plethora of pebbles and boulders. Leashed dogs are allowed here too, but I saw plenty running free on both sides of the shore. One dog kept charging and barking at me despite his owner's best efforts to recall and control him by voice. According to one park sign, you can fish here. I'm not sure if there are designated points. I didn't see any bathroom or picnic table facilities, so "go" before you arrive and bring your own blankets, towels and chairs if you plan on hanging out. The park is open from sunrise to sunset which is great for those wanting to photograph the natural beauty of this place.

The pastries are fantastic and weekend quiches are a must. We ended up coming here 3 times over the weekend including in the middle of our elopement day to sign our marriage certificates. It's peaceful, relaxing, beautiful, amazing, lovely, just everything you would want to experience on a week-end get-a-way. I would suggest staying a week! We went exploring on Saturday, our first stop was the small town of Glacier just 4 miles up the road. We stopped at the little Grocery store, to pick up a few supplies. They have espresso!! If you order it before you shop they bring it to you while you shop. Also, ice cream on the cone. There's an adorable 2nd hand store, they sell homemade soaps and candles as well. I Love this town! Leaving Glacier we headed toward Nooksack falls just 7 miles further up the road. Breathe taking view. I watched the Deer Hunters movie a few weeks ago, and I knew that the Nooksack falls were featured in the hunting scene of the movie. Did Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro walk the same path as we did??? Probably not, but it's still absolutely worth the stop, it's beautifully dangerous. Back on the one way road to Mt, Baker Highway, then 14 miles to Artist Point, located at the very end of Mount Baker Highway. I felt a little intimidated on the road to artist Point, it's only about 3 miles long and with the switchbacks it's crazy exciting and lovely winding up more than 5000 feet above sea level as you arrive at the top. Yes, it boasts 360-degree views of Mount Shuksan and Mount Baker. All of this, just 22 miles from the Sasquatch Mountain Hideaway cabin. We climbed a short distance to an open area, and had lunch in the snow, on a beautiful August afternoon. What do you do when you didn't bring a sled? Well you use your coat and you go Coatesbogganing! We returned to the cabin, and started the grill. We had Grilled salmon, salad, baked potato and white wine, all out on the balcony. A very pleasant non-exhausting day. This mountain hideaway features a gourmet kitchen, private bedrooms; lovely bathrooms, leather sofas big screen TV's and choice of movies, or bring your own. If you wish they have big foot slippers to wear around the cabin, and much more. This cabin is perfectly located for enjoying every season for any reason, I love our beautiful Great Northwest. The Sasquatch Mountain Hideaway makes it easy.

This turned out to be a similar mix to the salad- think of like a bagged stir fry mix of kale, cabbage and carrots sliced topped on a heaping pile of white rice. This meal also promised fresh veggies but the only addition we found was a bit of zucchini sprinkled In. Idk about yall but when I order a "loaded veggie bowl" I expect more. They gave us tons of rice so seems like they knew they needed to compensate for the lack of veggies. I guess the restaurant is trying to go a healthy route, which is cool but it also needs to be tasty. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but these "veggie focused" meals, are not really that, so it just ends up being disappointing. If you shrink your menu, that usually means you're doing so to ensure that the quality increases with a more limited menu. Not the case here. If you do come here, order the smash burger. It was solid. Only complaint is that it came with a really small side of fries.
