The water runs slower on the park side than in many places along the Lewis river, making it a nice place for swimming if you can snag a piece of the pebbly beach. The great news is that the park is rarely busy and we often find an area we can swim and play for the day. Beyond picnic tables, grills, and grassy areas, there is also a public toilet, and garbage cans throughout. Dogs are permitted on leash, but there is no doggy clean up station - you'll need to bring your own bags. If you're a mosquito magnet like me, you'll want to bring your bug spray. They're everywhere and they are thirsty! Logs have been intentionally placed along the riverbank to create areas for fish. We've seen minnows, snails, and caddisfly larva in the shallows. Fish jumping and even river otter can be seen in the deeper channel in the middle of the river. The park is well maintained and off the beaten path. There are two roads you can turn off of Cedar Creek to get to Haapa . They are Etna rd and Roser rd. Turning right onto Etna is an extremely sharp turn. A minivan can't do it without entering oncoming traffic after the turn. Conversely, taking a left onto Roser is extremely sharp. If you're hauling a boat, plan to enter from one direction and leave from the other for smoother traveling.

For 8 days I have deeply embedded barbed spines in my feet ! The more movements , like walking, or squeezing to remove, causes them to go deeper into your flesh! Cowlitz County weed is only classified as "C", meaning that it isn't going to be removed. Port of Longview is the organization that maintains/ owns; Willow Grove Park.

We met Jeff at 6 in the morning and started on his drift boat and kept fishing until we were exhausted. Jeff worked hard to get us on the fish and we landed a nice steelhead and lots of trout. Jeff was very patient and his pointers were very good. The shore lunch was amazing. He brought a small propane grill and cooked us some amazing tuna and vegetables. Beautiful, relaxing, peaceful spot…read more My husband and I visited this dock 2 days ago after going to my Grandmother's 90th Birthday Party in the area. There is a bronzed statue of Sacajawea near the bridge by this dock. The autumn foliage here is just breathtaking - bright yellows, brilliant oranges, and cranberry reds - and there are lilypads *everywhere* which really add to the beauty of the place. The dock itself is a mostly-rectangular-shaped, with slanted corners, and it is about 20 - 30 feet wide and about 15 - 20 feet long. From the dock, you can see glorious amounts of lilypads, a good section of the lake, a proud tall fountain that emerges from the center of the lake, the bridge to your right (about a 2-minite walk from the dock), and lots and lots of trees. Off in the distance behind the dock, there's a playground, which was full of happy kids playing in it on the Saturday that we visited. There were quite a few people out at the lake itself this past Saturday, however, it never felt crowded, and we were the only two people on the dock itself. There are no benches on the actual dock, but there's a nice park bench very close to it. I have some memories of Lake Sacajawea from when I was much younger, since I have family in this area, but I hadn't been there in many years until this past weekend. I highly recommend visiting if you're in the area. It's a lovely place to chill for a while or take a short stroll.

The sites are well kept and clean. It's big enough that you can get in a good walk around or pedal around on your bikes. The surrounding area is not bike friendly though. Pretty much no bike lanes and it's a bit busy on the streets. You can't really hear it from the campground though, except for on the north side. It looks like the kind of place that gets incredibly busy on weekends. There's a large sports field, three playgrounds for kids, horseshoe, etc. I don't think this would be the best campground on a weekend or if it just gets busy in general. Most of the spots are not well covered from your neighbors. Where we stayed, of someone had camped in the spot next to us, we would have been right on top of each other's space. But, if you come on a less busy day, it's great. Also, it's close enough to civilization that you will still have internet and cell service if you need it.
