I've learned my lessons from this store, although the actual lessons seem good, if a little expensive, but they're not a separate business from this one, you see. Same place, same management. As my Guitar Center gently weeps, I find myself writing a negative review for this place. Guitar Center will always be a little too expensive which it didn't used to be. Some of the employees here are really nice, but when it comes to return policies I'm not a fan. I'm aware that musicians probably take advantage of returns or maybe are shady a lot more than your average customer of another type of store does, but that just meant that when I was not trying to be shady and had genuine problems with my equipment I ran into major problems and restocking fees that just made me wonder why I bought it from here in the first place. And why do they make the restocking fees seem nonexistent or unimportant or avoidable until you actually need to return something. Shady AF. read more

I have been taking lessons from Luke and Guitar Center in the Heights for over a year. He is amazing knowledgeable and encouraging. I started taking guitar lessons when I was 61 years old. He has been extremely patient and has kept me motivated for over a year. Ayana is the lessons coordinator and she's awesome. She replaced Ross and she's doing an excellent job. Actually a better job than he did because she is actually there most of the time the employees in the store are mostly friendly and helpful. I have purchased two guitars from this location and they were knowledgeable with their recommendations. I was in here midday on a Monday and this place was pretty deserted. They were plenty staffed up as I saw at least 10 workers standing around chatting with each other. I walked past most of them without any real contact and wandered over to the strings. I knew what I needed but I was browsing and an employee approached to check in and I thought to see what his opinion would be on the subject. He was hesitant and unsure of himself in giving an answer so I wasn't all that impressed and went with my own choice. I meandered around the store briefly. It's clean, well spaced, and the music was playing at a reasonable level. I've been to other stores that make me feel like I'm standing next to a wall of speakers on full tilt. I was left alone after my brief encounter and was able to browse through several sections before taking off. I can't say I was let down or blown away by the visit, so 3 stars is probably fair enough. It's definitely a nice, new and clean store right off the highway so it's convenient for a quick run for supplies or to check out some new equipment. read more

I put my kid in lesson. Henry and others are always very helpful. I have alot of change in schedule and he always give me a call or communicate with me about change. He is very polite and my shy kid can talk him too. as far as customer service I am very pleased with the lesson department. read more

I came in on a Saturday looking to sell a used instrument. I was greeted by someone at the front desk telling them I was looking to have my product reviewed and appraised. One of the two people acknowledged me and walked away saying I should be helped by the other employee, if I wait in line. Once I made it to the front of the line, the "employee" did not ask me what I was looking for or what I needed help with. I had to tell him my intent for visiting and he did not seem the slightest bit interested. Then the desk phone rang, so of course he picked it up and that's fine. But once he started talking... to my surprise he did not stop. He didn't think to put the caller on hold (as he was supposed to be while servicing me the customer) nor did he transfer the call to another employee. He proceeded to have a FULL BLOWN conversation in front of my face with me standing there with my instrument on the counter! Incredibly disrespectful treatment. I waited 5 minutes for him to acknowledge me and still nothing ... so I decided I'll find another employee who would at least look me in the eye. I walk to the back and there stood 5 employees just standing around. I ended up being serviced once I asked for help (thank you) and the appraiser turned out to be very nice and helpful. read more

First off the cleanliness of the place is great, as soon as you walk in they have hand sanitizer and they clean the instruments often to ensure the health of each patron. Anthony received us with a positive attitude and very communicative regarding what my son was looking for. Anthony knows his stuff and knows what to suggest in order to have the best possible customer service. My son ended up choosing a Jackson electric guitar, Anthony checked it to make sure the guitar was 100% ready to play and luckily he found deficiencies which he took upon to fix them and ended up tuning and replacing strings for the guitar, I could not be more pleased to have had such great customer service and for Anthony to go the extra mile doing a tuning that costs $60.00 to doing it for free. Thank you Anthony and whoever gets to read this, don't hesitate and when you go to the Guitar center on Yale St. please ask for Anthony, you will not be disappointed and he will assure you leave the store happy. read more

found a price tag marked 19.97 for a numark TTUSB turntable. there were none located behind the tag. asked one of the sales team, maybe he was the manager because he didn't have a guitar center shirt, was bald and had on a flannel shirt. he stated they didn't have anymore and that they did have a used numark TTUSB in the used dj section but it had its weight section broken off from the tone arm. so i was like okay cool no prob i won't it get. then i walk around there vinyl section and find a TTUSB box. on that orange clearance price tag it didn't state 19.97 was only for a used turntable, it stated 120 off original price of 139. i bring that up to the register and ask another sales person do you have anymore of these and says there are 3 more. then blurts out oh my friend wanted one of these too. and then calls his manager or homeboy and then tells me 19.97 is only for the used turntable and the unopened box is priced at 139. the sales person had black hair and had large earrings. now it's cool if you want to save that for your friend then just let me know i already have a gang of turntables anyways this would be just extra. so bottom line this guitar center really is a piece of shit, people have told me before they don't really help out and now i see it i guess that's why they have two stars. read more

Stopped by this store today for a few incidentals for my drum kit. I've been drumming cumulatively for over 25 years and have been playing with my praise team at my church for about the last 6 years. The store was teaming with personnel. Not a single one asked to help me. In fact most of them looked at me as if I had 3 heads. When I got almost what I needed (couldn't find one item) I went to check out. Walked up to a counter as an employee was just coming in behind and I asked him if I could check out here. He mumbled something I couldn't hear so I stood there for at least a minute. I finally asked him if I needed to go another counter. He mumbled again and I did make out that he was waiting in the computer. When we wrapped up the transaction he handed me my receipt without a thank you, screw you, nothing. I just stood there looking at him. Finally I just shook my head in disgust and went on my way. I understand that these folks aren't paid much but I remember my first job when I was a teenager was washing dishes, then a paper route, then on to Minimax sacking groceries. I always tried to be polite and courteous. I'm far from perfect, which none of us are but at least give an effort. I've owned my own small business for over 30 years and if I treated my customers this way, I would be out of business, QUICK. It's no wonder this company has had to claim bankruptcy just to pay the interest on it's loans. Customer service in this particular store stinks and I can assure the manager of this joke of a store you'll never see any of my hard earned dollars again. read more

Great staff at the Yale location. Friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful. I'm always greeted with a smile when I walk in. The lessons are terrific. Jeremy is my instructor and he totally rocks, as does Hank who is as helpful as you could hope for in any associate. They have a fine selection of new, used and vintage gear, too. I but a amp on line had the amp shipped over night I payed for it on Thursday it shipped on Friday I was to receved it on Monday ups did not pick up the amp so it was to be deliver on tusday I took the day off from work so I call ups and told if the item can be deliver ate ups store I was told the store wood have to change the adders on boxes so I call the store and was told it was done but whan I look on line I see it is going back to the store so I call the store and was told it has to come back and than sent back to me I told the store it refund me the shipping and was told the store will refund the hold thing and can buy anther amp or the same one so I told the store to refund me the store refund some of the money and told me the amp will have to be in store so thay can refund me the rest it now be 8 days in to this and I call no answer on this I call customer server and was told call the store I call the store and was told by manger he did not know anything on this said he call me back that was Monday today is tusday and no call I do not know what to do on this but I will never by anything online agene the amp made here I Denver on tusday and call me to hold it one day whan I call the store so it can be deliver the store told me thay whant the amp back and thay will send back out to me can you believe this I hope to gate the ather part of refund so day ore the will keep this all I want is my money back and I will never do this agene. read more

Too Much Help I walked in to the acoustic room looking for 000 28 or a 0000 36 M-36 I had the room for about 5 min and was able to check out a skinny Taylor and a couple of Gibson's, Then enters a kid who asked if I knew what I was looking for, I told him + used and he did not know what a 28 was so he goes for help and I go back to contemplating the Gibson's. Reenters the kid who informs me he can ship in a used 28..... At which Point I had to explain that the wand chooses the wizard and I was not interested in purchasing any guitar that I had not held in my hand first. He countered with a 30 day return policy as they've all done to which I respond, I'm not interested in making a purchase of the level that I'm speaking and having hassles, I want to know that I like my purchase before I walk out the door. The kid exits again and I go back to being drawn to the Gibson's. There was a J19 and a songwriter I was being drawn too. The kid reenters with a more senior sales with him. And we go through the whole shebang again. I explained to them I needed a little time to think a hold to feel. This concept seemed to go right over their heads they continue trying to engage in idle small talk. And would not let me breathe. It was as if they were watchdogs? Whenever I go to check out guitars I make sure I have no buttons, buckles or sharp objects in my pockets. I was dressed well It was as if they were determined to talk me in to the guitars had in mind and we're trying to pull me out of the acoustic room and show me lesser guitars. Please don't get me wrong and I am not against help but you can't give what you ain't got. I have not experienced this in any of the other stores of this chain. I do believe somebody in management needs to explain to sales when someone is contemplating the purchase of a guitar in the price range 2K and up the buyer and the guitar need a little time to bond. I finally got fed up and left. I was literally chased out of the acoustic room. read more
