I had started shopping around for an entry-level digital piano in early October of this year. I went the whole nine yards and had reviewed the Yamaha P71, Roland FP30, & the Kawai ES110. I had even diligently checked through the local used markets for a few weeks before deciding that even though buying used could be cheaper, I just didn't want to deal with not having a warranty in case of defect or equipment failure. By then, I was in early November and so close to Black Friday that I figured I should visit a few storefronts to see what sales they had. I had gone to three major local storefronts before I was quoted a 25% discount off the retail price for a Yamaha YDP-164. At that point, I was ready to pull the trigger. I should also mention that most of the stores had reasonably friendly staff as well. However, life kept me busy, and I'm glad it did. On a lark, I ended up calling Music and Arts on Jameel and spoke to Diego. He offered me 30% off the retail price of the YDP-164 over their store's Black Friday sales event. However, the caveat was going to be that they probably would not have it in rosewood and would instead order in black. It wasn't perfect, but at that price point, who was I to complain? Fast forward a week: I called Diego, and he mentioned that it had taken a while for him to get back in touch with me because he had wanted to surprise me by trying to locate a YDP-164 in rosewood in another store. I realize that most of this review highlighted the discounted rate that I was trying to receive, but I must admit that it has been a pleasure dealing with Diego. He was committed to providing me with the best price point and didn't stop there. He went on to locate the exact model and finish I wanted. Throughout the process, he was also patient and dealt with my incessant phone calls to the store to check on progress. As mentioned above, most of the staff I encountered at other stores were reasonably friendly as well. However, what distinguished Diego from the rest was his ability to go one step further for me, on his own time. The message it sends me is that I am more than just a customer and that I am treated as family. That is something that money just doesn't buy. I'll happily bring my business here in future. Edit: I ended up paying in person instead of over the phone. My impression of Diego is that he is a very diligent & hard worker. In the 25 minutes that I was in the store, many more customers came in. He handled them efficiently & professionally. When the influx of customers was too high, he immediately called for help so that everyone could be taken care of in a timely manner. In person, I realized just how many hoops that Diego had to jump through to get me the discount I wanted. I am very thankful for his efforts. Furthermore, as I waited, I noticed a list of his priorities and to do's written out neatly, to the side of the counter that he was working on. It may be a very short time to develop a snapshot of a person, but through the phone conversations and the time I spent communicating in-store with him, I know Diego is someone who will go far in life, regardless of what he does. read more

normally i would take my 2 cellos to a violin/string specialty shop, but i lucked out on this "mainstream" store. after calling around, i found this location and spoke to Mr. Charles McDavid, a specialist in stringed instrument repair: specifically basses. i told him about my 2 cellos and 1 violin and he was both kind and knowledgeable, so today i brought in all 3 instruments. after a thorough inspection of each instrument and my level of use with each, he described necessary and non-essential repairs. i appreciated the friendliness and non-snobbery that goes along with many music repair shops. i'm pleasantly surprised by this mainstream store which i have always equated with elementary and high school wind instrument rentals. perhaps I am the snob! i promise to write a followup review once i pick up the instruments in a few days. read more

Grumpy people with a bad attitude work here. Spoke to the guy over the phone before coming. He was very short and rude on the phone... Went ahead and decided to go in anyhow, big mistake. When I got there he was even worse in person. Ended up at another place, costs were comparable and service was a night and day difference. If I have a dollar vote it's definitely not going to this place. read more

My biggest problem with this company is the (seemingly) exclusive relationship they have with school band programs. My daughter wanted to try band in Middle school. So, against my better instinct, I purchased a used instrument from Music & Arts because the difference between renting and buying was not that much, and I didn't want to jump through a lot of hoops over rental policies. Music & Arts was the only "approved" company on the school list. This should have been a red flag. The band teacher strongly warned parents not to buy off Ebay, or other sites. Well, my daughter decided she no longer wanted in band. Here is the crux of the problem. There is a HUGE markup on these "used" instruments! And there is an obvious financial arrangement between some schools and this company. Music & Arts will not buy back their instruments, even if they've been cleaned and repaired by Music & Arts. The average selling price for my Saxophone on Ebay is $399.00, and there are plenty. The ones I looked at were in great shape, and with documentation. We paid $1,400.00 + tax for this instrument "used." It cost me $124.00 to have my instrument cleaned and repaired by M&A after one school year. If $124.00 is the average conditioning cost, you're better off shopping around. Just ask questions of the seller and use common sense (documentation from the seller is always a good start). In my opinion, the pressure to deal with a certain company by a school is disingenuous and wrong. If you're child is wanting to try band, rent. These teachers may try to "threaten" you by leading parents to believe you can only buy from the teacher's approved source, or your kid can't play. We're talking an instrument, not a safety helmet. read more

I have become a customer of this store after the closing of several music stores. As a piano teacher I find the staff and manager to be very helpful. Even though the piano music selection is limited, the staff will order what you need. A discount is offered to teachers through their Encore program. read more

Not the greatest at making customers happy, a bit rude/passive. Don't even think about getting a refund on returning a rental instrument early they act like it would take an act of God to do it! Glad I went out of my way on a Saturday to return it only to find out on Monday that I was crazy for thinking I might be refunded for the 2 weeks that were not used... Thank God he's in football next year! read more
