I had been hearing about this place, so I made the trip.. Glad I did.. they have a good selection of left handed guitars (right handed too) the guy working behind the counter was friendly. He recognized I had never been there before so he told me to grab a guitar and plug in. I hit a few licks on a really nice fender strat, slapped a bass, and walked around exploring the joint. It's really cool having a spot that specializes in left handed guitars, bass. Guitar Centers rarely have more than 1,2 lefty guitars in store, if any. I'll return no doubt. read more

What a feeling to go to a guitar store and be able to play all the guitars you have only seen as right hand models! And they will let you play them! I bought my first guitar here back in 2001, a sunburst Gibson ES-335, still my favorite axe. Just today I purchased my first Taylor, the T5z Pro, and included in the purchase another Taylor GS mini for a significantly reduced price. I've been texting on and off with the owner re: this axe for months, and he's been super patient and helpful with me during the entire process. (I've also called in re: several Heritage guitars over the years and he was always friendly and helpful.) He took care of the shipping cost and gave me a great deal on the bundle. Couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Southpaw Guitars remains an oasis for us lefties out here, who struggle to find quality instruments! Kudos! read more

Staff is rude, not sure if they have some prejudices but their behavior was off putting regardless. Kept pushing the sale of a "kit" when I specifically said multiple times I was looking for something nicer, as an upgrade/replacement. Staff proceeded to ask l how long I've played (18+ years) only to suggest the cheap beginner kit again. read more

I was in the market for a Taylor lefty 12 string. I got an excellent deal during Taylor's BOGO sale and picked up both a Taylor 250ce-DLX and a Baby Mahogony. The order process was fast and easy. The guitars arrived within a few days beautifully setup and ready to go. They also upgraded the hard shell case to a premium hard shell at no charge! Lefty Mecca! If you are left handed and are in the area you have to visit. Kind of a sketchy area. You have to get buzzed in. But once inside all of your left handed dreams come true! This is by far the best guitar store I have ever been to. The atmosphere is so welcoming and the staff makes you feel like home. I flew from NJ to Houston to buy a guitar and (as a lefty) I was overwhelmed with how many quality guitars there were. I bought a beautiful 52' tele reissue and they gave me a great deal on it, throwing in a cable and strap in a tweed case. Omar, one of the staff members, was extremely knowledgeable on every guitar in the store and even let me play some rarities that weren't on display. They seriously care about each and every customer and Jim, the owner, was a reflection of that. So when I went to this store I was amazed at how much selection I had for left handed guitars and basses of all types of brands. Although they have good selection for lefties, the service is terrible. I made an ordering mistake and the owner wouldn't refund my money, despite the guitar not having been shipped yet. Said he was "already inventory-heavy" as a reason to force me to continue the sale. Very dishonest way of doing business, and certainly not the way to attract repeat customers. I cannot understand why the owner would compel a customer to go through with an order they didn't want before it had shipped (other than for short-term financial gain, of course). But I was trapped on the technicality of their refund policy, so it was my fault. Buyer beware of this fact! read more

Having never played the guitar, I went here to get help picking my first one. I walk in and eventually one of the 5 employees asked "you left handed?" And I said "yes". I then explained I've never played and have always wanted to learn and would like help on picking a good guitar. The guy then handed me a tuner and said here you go and walked away.
