Amazing guitars, picks, and cables! I wish their pedal options were more plentiful though...

We have purchased a piano, 2 guitars, and a ukelele from this store. My uke and guitar were both having issues with loose cable.jack / strap mounts. I needed one tightened and the other rescued from inside and fitted in place. It was late evening. We went to the counter and received some help. We were told that the technician was gone for the day. It required a specialized tool to fix it. We should come back when the tech is in. We thought they would have been more solution oriented as we told them we are return customers. The fact it happened to two instruments was brought up. I thought they would take some accountability. Long story short I went home disappointed. I ordered a bit of hardware to secure the jacks. I watched some videos. I then fished some dental floss through and snagged the interior piece and pulled it through the hole. I adjusted the inside nut, pulled it through and fixed then. There werent any apologies that it happened on two instruments. It was simply - yeah that happens. Bring it back when the tech is in and be can fix them. No offer of a free fix. It just didn't feel like customer service. read more

I was wanting to check out guitars, but didn't want to waste anyones time as I didn't plan to buy one. Figured this guitar center where no one seemed to want to sell a guitar would be perfect for that. Well, I walk in and immediately greeted by two people, asked what they can help with. I said, just tire kicking. As I was looking around a few people actually spoke to me and ended up helping me and giving useful insight on the guitars I was looking at and info on their lessons. Wow! Where do I begin... The service at this location is absurdly disgusting. I've been to Guitar Center locations all over this country - having worked for the company at the 440 and 441 locations for a combined total of 10 years. I have been flown around the country to assist with new store or openings. I was the store manager at the Arlington store (441) for several years...and I have to say this location in Lewisville, TX is the absolute worst I've ever seen/experienced. What happened to customer service? It's absolutely nonexistent. I'm an actively gigging musician and have been practically my whole life. So when I have shows, I need to be able to walk in and get quick service for basic needs like cables, picks, strings, a microphone... Occasionally I buy a new guitar or amp, but most of my trips to a music store are for the staple items you need when you're on stage. And I'm frequently stopping to pick things up when I'm on my way to a show - so time is of the essence. I have walked into this store repeatedly over the past few years and never gotten so much as a hello from the sales people. And on the few occasions when they did decide to speak to me, they had no answers for my questions . They seemingly have no product knowledge, not even the most general knowledge about instruments and accessories. Most common response you get from a Guitar Center employee, "I don't know man..." Wait...what? I would've been slapped silly by my first manager if I had given such a response to a customer. It's basic customer service 101. If you don't know the answer, tell the customer you're not sure and go find it, figure it out! You never send a customer away with unanswered questions. That's called walking business. And it's the death march for retail. I looked at the other reviews on here, and I noticed that the bad reviews got nothing more than a note from the manager stating more information could be sent to an email address. What? Come again? I worked there in the late 80s through the 90s, so cell phones weren't really a thing yet. When customers were unhappy, they had to ask for the manager or make a phone call. Nonetheless, we were trained to bend over backwards to get the customer back in the store and to make things right. We would offer concessions like a free cable, a discount on the product they were looking at, throw in some free strings, or simply having the store manager tend to the customer personally to make them feel special...SOMETHING to offset the bad experience and wasted time for the customer. Offering a customer an email address if they have any further comments is indicative of why the customer service sucks! Because, even the management sucks. It's the old top down/trickle down effect. The people at the top don't care, hence the people at the bottom REALLY don't care. Guitar Center has been hemorrhaging money and struggling financially for two decades now. It's no surprise why. If they want to survive, they need to take a serious hard look in the mirror and get back to basics. Which is to say, put the customer first. And to the salespeople: get off your ass, put the guitar down, quit texting your girlfriend, and talk to the flipping customers! It's sad really. Because this was once a really great company, a great place to work, and customers loved coming to the stores. We had customers that would come into my store and would just hang out because it was such a cool vibe and fun place to be. Today you couldn't pay me to hang out there...those days ended a long time ago. Over the past 10-15 years I've purchased, and traded/sold a lot of guitars - in the neighborhood of about three dozen. I've purchased multiple amplifiers, pedal effects galore, studio microphones, stage microphones, and all the cables, stands, and connectors that go along with it...I've probably spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $30,000-$40,000 worth of gear over that time frame. And...most of it has gone to Sweetwater Music! You would think, in these days with retail struggling - across all sectors - and staple companies like Sam Ash Music going completely out of business, that Guitar Center would pull their heads out of their rear end and figure it out. To the contrary, things just seem to continually get worse. Here's a twist on the old adage: If you don't pay attention to your wife, someone else will! i.e "You know what happens if you don't take good care of your customers? Someone else will!" And "No", Mr. Manager. Don't respond to my review with an email address I can send further information to. I've said everything I need to say. In fact, don't respond at all. I don't wanna hear your pathetic excuse for why your place sucks so badly. Frankly, I don't care anymore. My guy at Sweetwater touches base with me regularly. So I'm good. read more

We've been paying for music lessons for our son. Lately, they have canceled at the last minute for every lesson we've had. We set up the lessons on the days that work best for our schedule, which Guitar Center has committed to, yet we are constantly having to reschedule. Due to this, we are not used to the unplanned rescheduled times and have already missed a class because it's not in our regular routine. This is now money we're out/we've lost because they had to reschedule our agreed lesson time from earlier in the week. Had we gone on our agreed upon day, we would not be out any money because we would remember to go. It's unprofessional to keep canceling. Not to mention Guitar Center can cancel and reschedule at the last minute with no penalty, but if we do what they've done to us, we lose our money. It hardly seems right that we receive no financial grace if we have to cancel last minute like they do. Communication isn't great either. There have been several times I've called in and they (at the last minute) are telling me about another cancellation as opposed to them calling me earlier to let us know. Several teachers have been switched/left the company and we've had no communication that our teacher has changed until we get there and see a new person. This doesn't help with consistency and continuity in lessons either. All of the instructors are great, but we've been through at least FIVE in the last 9 months. So, if you want to test your patience and have the schedule you've committed to changed constantly along with your instructor so your child receives no lessons to build upon and a place you can lose money when it throws everything in your routine off, this is the place for you! Go sign up with every expectation that you'll get nothing out of this except a consistent withdrawal of your money. read more

This guitar center is the best of their locations in Dallas. Most of the employees are prompt, friendly, honest, and knowledgeable. We will actually go out of our way to this location because other guitar centers tend to be 1 star experiences. We had one questionable experience here with a broken amp for sale. We asked what was wrong with the amp and they didn't know, so we couldn't even price out what the total cost would be. It felt dishonest and convoluted. Besides that experience, everyone has been great. Brandon (?) in keyboards gave us a lot of useful information when buying a keyboard, without pressuring us to buy. We ultimately bought one because of his help. This location is well kept and not overly crowded. If you need to go to a guitar center, this is the one to go to. read more

They suck, and so does their sister company Musicians Friend. Three times now I've ordered from them because their website said they had it available. THEY SEND ME THE WRONG THING!!! Then when I ask them to fix it they tell me they can't keep the website up to date and they actually out of the instrument I ordered. How is they my problem? If you don't have it, tell me, and the. Refund my money. Don't send me something else and make me go through the hassle of returning it to you. You're worthless and pathetic and I am never buying anything from you again!!!!! read more

Thought I left a response but I guess I didn't. I came in last Thursday as I had bought an irig amplifier to use with my headphones as I was having surgery that next day. I thought it wasn't working right but the kid I spoke to told me it was broken without even testing it which I asked him to do. He showed me other models but told me he had little knowledge of the product and tried to sell me another one that was more expensive. He tried to look it up on my phone number but I guess the clerk that checked me out didn't use it, but they easily could have found my receipt with my credit card. Guitar center is full of a bunch of kids that don't know the equipment they sell, I've rarely found someone that could answer straight questions. I asked about a distortion pedal for a bass and no one knew anything. They have very little knowledge of bass guitars. Unless I am in desperate need I will not be using them again. read more

I have been here on multiple occasions for a contactless curbside and/or in-store pickups and each time; even after receiving the confirmation email and checking in that I have arrived via-text, I still have to call the store and let them know I am there and what I have ordered. Seems very redundant but the final straw was my visit right before Christmas. I wasn't greeted by a single person working and I was just looking for a mic stand to give as a gift. The one I selected rang up for $25 dollars more than expected so I asked the cashier @ the register (who never scanned the bar code to begin with) to do a quick price check. He wouldn't do it after I asked more than once and simply said, "I know what it is." Wow. Seriously? I was a retail manager for 5 years and the people in this store need a serious reality check and lesson in how to speak/associate with customers. I understand it's the holidays and everyone is stressed w/ COVID and high traffic; however, you're supposed to greet people and even if you are a million percent sure you are correct on the pricing of an item, check it and explain the situation to the customer either way. Terrible customer service and as a gear card member and someone that has spent thousands with this company, I am absolutely disgusted. I will never return to or order from this location again just to save myself a headache and frustration. read more

I enrolled my grandson for guitar lessons by phone with Liza from the Guitar Center in Lewisville on 2-15-22. The lessons were twice a month for one hour in the amount of $125.00. My grandson received services for the lessons in March, April, and May. I called Liza from the Guitar Center on May 27, 2022, to cancel the lessons scheduled for June 6th and June 20, 2022 as they were not working out for my grandson. I was told by Liza that my card would not be charged for the lessons in June or any further lessons. I reiterated the question to her and she assured me I would not be charged. However, upon receiving my statement I saw that the charge of $125.00 was billed to me. I called and talked to Liza about the charge and she said she could not reverse the charges due to my calling and being billed on the same day. I also spoke to the manager, Rob Green, who would not reverse the charges. I asked for the district manager to contact me and as of today, August 5, 2022, have not heard from him or anyone else. This charge was for SERVICES NOT RECEIVED and was told I would not be billed. I would never do business with this company again and would definitely never recommend them. A company that takes money from a customer for services they did not perform should be put out of business!!! read more

Just went to this store yesterday to buy a Sterling Headphone amp, and boy am I disappointed. When I got the product, the box was damaged, and when I plugged in the amp all I heard was an underwater sounding, incredibly static version of anything I wanted to listen to. I've tried multiple different cables with no success, and I know the headphones work because I just bought them and plugged them into my computer where they work fine. Extremely disappointed by this experience. Now I have to go back to this store to return it, and It feels like I got a used product for the price of a new one. read more

My second time to this location and I have the same assessment as another reviewer: the employees here seem to be interested in the customers and in developing a friendly relationship. At other Dallas area locations, it seems like the motto is "We Don't Want to Be Here and Want You to Feel the Same." At the Lewisville store I felt exactly the opposite as Braedon helped me start to finish on the purchase of a Guild 12 string involving an appraisal and trade-in of a bass. I was super impressed as he was able to help four other customers, including two at the register, without interrupting our experience. A friendly, positive experience all around. (Okay, I feel that some of the employees at the other stores deserve a nod...there were two that stood out at other locations that I saw encouraging young, undecided customers and parents...I hope they can be examples to the others). Like the other reviewer, I'll drive out of my way to go back to this store for this type of experience. read more

A few months ago, I walked in and signed up for weekly drum lessons. Liza Schoenthal was so helpful and welcoming. My weekly lessons have been with Casey Christian and she's so knowledgeable, supportive and instructive. Whenever I go in there, I'm met with warm and friendly employees who clearly enjoy what they do and are happy to have me there. I highly recommend that if anyone at any age has been considering learning how to play an instrument, go in there and get started! I'm in my late 50's, I knew NOTHING about instruments and now I'm actually reading drum music and playing! The cost of lessons is so reasonable and you have so much to gain! read more

I've purchased many items at this GC--guitars (mostly Schecter Research, astounding quality and value!), amplifiers (Boss, Orange), boards and pedals, plus the usual accessories as well as trade-in's on new gear. I am very impressed with their service and inventory both corporate and local. You can come in and browse, ask questions, poke around, have yourself some fun window shopping with no high pressure whatsoever and the minute you raise your hand there's someone more than willing to offer friendly personal advise, know-how, and guidance if that's what you want. They'll bend over backward to help or be happy to let you have your run of the place. Last guitar purchase involved a trade-in and I got a phenomenal fair deal, just Wow. After four visits and each time being told they hadn't gotten to it, I kindly requested they return my guitar (which I purchased there, as I have all my guitars) as I will find someone else to do it. I don't know how or why this place is still open. I just wanted a keyboard stand that wasn't priced three times what they are worth. They now have their own brand of stand that they think deserves a ridicules mark up. I know they think that if the brand name isn't sold anywhere else, they won't be shopped on it online and they can charge whatever they want. However, what the geniuses in their sales department don't think about is that NOONE cares about the brand name when the price is so high. Amazon has the exact same stand (different brand name) for literally 1/3 the price. When I asked the salesman if that was right price, he answered well that brand isn't found anywhere else so that is the right price. We can't mark it down. Now, I'm literally the only customer in the store and rather than selling me one of their products, they wanted me to leave and buy on amazon. So I did. read more
