I'm not sure what's going on with guitar center these days but this particular one sucks. I ordered a five string precision base used from the store and all they did was tune it and shove it in a box no polishing no new strings no set up. Far away one of the worst stores in the guitar center chain. I've ordered a number of guitars from this particular store to be shipped to Virginia and every single time the guitar arrive with used beat up nasty strings dirt all over the bridge and all over the pick ups. Went in hunting for a Les Paul Studio Ebony 50s special edition now that Epi stopped making them. On the floor they had a new stock 2024 Epiphone. I talked to the rep Bobby about how I was on the fence and left. guy knew his stuff, we went through a bunch of Gibsons and he revealed he had a gorgeous gold top Gibson 50s with the p90s and he said "it was the best pickup", which I agree with and rarely hear. Went back to Epiphone to see how many they had left and the p90 was off of their product page. I left but had a bad feeling. I wasn't the only one looking. I called and Andy, the manager picked up. I said "I was looking for Bobby" and he asked if I was Brock. Now I'm just impressed. I come back after work, grab the guitar. I barely get the words "it does have some cosmetic wear" out and Andy hooks me up with a deal and a case. I walked out way under sticker. Not only that, but Bobby and Andy know their stuff. We joked the whole time. Joked about common tropes with Gibson and Epiphone. I was out the door in 25-30 minutes. But moreso, I know this store better now and my Epi looks and sounds unlike any other guitar I've ever had. I was so excited I left my phone and wallet at the counter, which was hilarious. This just happened at guitar center in mayfield heights, ohio... I wanted to buy an alto TS412 powered cab. Web said they had them in stock. The drone there said, we don't carry alto. It's an exclusive brand that you can only buy direct. I told him the website said they had them in stock and he said , "what is it, a guitar cab?". I replied. "no , it's a powered pa cab", and he said, "Raw speaker?". I replied, "look, it doesn't matter what it is. Look it up in your inventory. Unless the site is wrong you have them in stock." He replied, we don't carry them. Finally the manager overheard and said, "we have 5 in stock. They are right over there"... Then after I paid for it the guy asks me to buy the extended warranty and I said no and he replied, "Why not? You don't care about your gear?". I was ready to punch him. I told him extended warranties were a rip off so he said, "Fine, your loss. Don't come crying to me if it breaks the as soon as you get home. She went over the top with her customer service, her attention to detail and fun loving attitude. I like it here. People are helpful. And... here's the best part, this is the only guitar store that provides guitar picks for testers (that I've seen). Even though I always have a pick holder in my keychain, that's a great touch because most people are normal and don't carry picks with them. I've sold used gear here and got literal ca$h which is great. The formula they use seems fair, they'll pay you maybe 50-70% (depending on condition) of what they intend to sell it for, so do your research on the selling prices. You'll get a 10% discount on non-used, non-sale items if they end up buying your used gear. read more

This company has gone way downhill in the past few years. I went in there today, was gonna buy some cables, but mainly for a used Ibanez TS-9 advertised on their website for $71. Of course when I get there, they "just sold it this morning," but they have a new one for $20 more. I pulled it up on the website while I was in the store and it's still there. Thing is, I cannot tell you how many times this has happened to me in the past. They absolutely suck at updating their inventory! Or they are just scamming to get you in the door. Probably just as well, since they probably only paid someone about $30 in trade for it. Another category where Guitar Center absolutely fails. Get it together Guitar Center. **UPDATE** It only took me 10 minutes to get home, and another 5 to put this review together. One redeeming factor--the helpful gentlemen who helped my mother I and through the process of purchasing a left-handed acoustic guitar for my father. He knew right away they wouldn't have anything in stock, so he took us through the entire process of purchasing it online, with a case, and then helped us find some accessories in the store. Other than that, this place was pretty meh. They had around 2 electric left-handed guitars in stock. I don't know a ton about guitars, but they told that so few people play left-handed that there's no point in keeping them in stock. Wait, what? Seriously? Not sure I understand some of the poor reviews on this one. Yes, it's a chain, but so what if they have what you need. I purchased my Fender guitar here a couple years ago after literally just walking into the store with nothing in mind. The gentleman who helped me - I wish I could remember his name - was super helpful and patient and helped me try on and play as many guitars as I wanted before I found the one I was comfortable with. It was an easy process, far easier than I expected. I've also been prematurely judged some places for being tall and blonde (yep; that's a real thing), but never here. They treat me like a musician. I still pop in here from time to time to buy strings, guitar picks or other accessories. For the most part, they always have everything I need. I've also joined friends in here looking for harmonicas, songbooks, and other random musical things. I have yet to have a reason not to come back. read more

Purchased a new Jackson guitar from the store. I waited to go into the store till the gentleman that was helping me on the phone was working again so he would get credit for the sale. He was very polite and openly admitted he does not play guitar or know much about them. I can appreciate that kind of honesty. I also picked up a couple extra items. Took a few to ring everything up and I asked if they could please tune a guitar before I left the store. The gentleman that was helping me tried. Once everything was rang up they were about to hand me the guitar and I asked for the whammy bar that supposed to come with it. They had no idea where this was and another gentleman said he would go in the back to look for it. After a while they came back out with one, I'm not really sure belongs on this guitar the way he was trying to force it in. Once that was done I was ready to leave the store. Have to say I definitely wasn't excited as I was to go there to purchase this guitar. When I left, the guitar had smudges all over the place from fingerprints because anybody could go in and play it while it's hanging up in the store. I understand that but when somebody makes a purchase, make them feel good about it wipe that thing down real good make it make it sparkle for that customer they just spent their hard earned money in your store. By the time everything was said and done, the gentleman that was selling me the guitar was long gone. No "enjoy your purchase" "if you have any questions please feel free to contact us have a nice day", nothing. As I was driving away I kind of had a feeling that I've been had a little bit. Oh, and I know that some guitars come with cases or bags and others do not as mine didn't. It was snowing when I left and they didn't even bother to offer a bag or maybe an extra cardboard box to put the guitar in the transport at home. So I had to take my "new" guitar out in the elements till I can make it to my car in the parking lot. Maybe it's just me but I would say that this store really doesn't give a shit about the customer it's all about the sales. What they don't realize is if the customer leaves happy the customer will continuously come back and spend their harder money in the store. my son and his dad went to this store today to purchase an upgraded guitar for my 9 year old. they were not let in the store a man walked up after them and was let directly in. upon leaving the store after rejection they were followed and pulled over by police that informed them the employee in the guitar store called and said they were in the parking lot looking through cars which was not at all true. officer said they described my son and his dad too a tee. what a disappointment. bottom tier service read more

So I went into trade a guitar and a another piece of equipment and I didn't have a way to verify if the equipment work so I had to come back. I came back and I was help a sister but another gentleman it took them over an hour to finish the whole deal. "Dude, you know what'd look siiicckk with that set of strings? A brand new 2016 tri-burst Les Paul Custom!" That's the attitude of this store. Always out to make a buck, even if it loses the store a lifelong customer. I'm from the middle of nowhere in the southern Ohio, the land of every cashier in town knowing your name, where you can still roll into a diner and say, "the usual." Homie don't play that corporate garbage. Their selection is fine, but it's the attitude the store has that irks me. I was once literally made fun of by half the staff for trying to sell them a used guitar pedal since I didn't know one had to be 18+ to do so. Another time while shopping for a bass head, a longtime employee plugged me into a particular one, hit the power button, and a wave of sparks and smoke flooded out from the thing. (I promise, I am not making this up.) Employees get sketchy if you want to play their nicer instruments, the amount they pay for used gear is just sad, and the employees will go in with zero knowledge of the product at hand if they think you're gullible enough to sell to. I had the worse experience at this Mayfield store. I order on line and Max said it would take a few days. I called a few days later he told me it was now going to be a month. He lied to me about my order. He said he was getting it from another store but that wasnt the case. I went to the store to get my refund he told me he couldn't, which was a lie, and to wait the month. He then just walked away as if I wasnt there with no further service. Took my money and pretty much said beat it! I never felt so bad and discounted. I called corp and they fixed it and pretty much said he lied about refunding my money.. I would never go back there! Wow! I used to love going to the guitar center when it was at its previous location. They recently opened this new site at Golden Gate. I came in a few days ago to purchase an item and absolutely none of the four or five sales people greeted me, much less acknowledged my presence, or asked if I needed help. I found what I thought to be the item I needed, bought it, and left. Unfortunately, it wasn't the right item and needed to be returned. When I walked in today and went to the counter, the gentleman seem nice enough. I returned my item and asked if he had a similar item which would fit a transmitter I brought in with me this time. He showed me where they were and gave me three choices. I asked him what the differences were between the three and he ignored me and basically gave me the one he wanted me to have. This one turned out to be the most expensive one. In the midst of ringing me out, he began a conversation with someone I could only guess to be the manager about a new job position he wanted to step into. When he finally got around to getting my change and my receipt, he put it down on the counter without looking at me again or saying one word, and continued his conversation with the manager. I've had consistently OK experiences here for over a decade. I recently used the guitar techs' services during SEP 2015. I wanted a Graph Tech nut installed on my 10 yr old son's mini Iceman short scale guitar. Rob did a great job on both the nut and the set up. Parking is bad, store is cramped & staff never approaches me first. Pricing is competitive and I will be back for more guitar work. So, overall score of "way better than nothing", but I still prefer the west side store. read more

After standing another 10 minutes at the front check out area (2 workers walked past us. One said give me a second which turned into 10 minutes, the other completely ignored us...). Where to begin... The general manager Garret couldn't be any more mean and rude. I know dozens of musicians who wont set foot in here because of run ins with this guy. And I have personally experienced his service and viewed on multiple occasions his attitude toward customers. Most new employees quit within a few months because of the harassment, and there is an UN-official hazing period for new employees (can you say lawsuit?). I couldn't begin to tell you how many instruments and accessories that I have purchased that have ended up to be broken, B-stock, abused and returned to be sold as "new". The employees are aware of it but are bullied into keeping their mouths shut. I have had broken truss rods, swapped pick-ups, non grounded wiring, on the fritz amps, necks that twisted overnight... the list goes on and on. The ONLY redeeming thing is an older employee named Dale Z. If you have to go in here, don't deal with anyone else. read more

Walked into store, no one asked if I needed help; a couple of employees walked past me so I assume they were helping other people. I go stand over near a check out; an employee walks over to the check out desk to help a customer who was already there and that employee did not even acknowledge my presence. I finally asked for help, got help, but the guy helping said he was gonna ask someone about my question; as I waited, he literally left the store and did not ask anyone else to assist me. I inquired if someone had been asked to help me and two employees answered "no". I asked if the employee who was assisting me was coming back...????, and an employee stated 'no, his shift is over for the day'. I was told by second person who helped me that he read a coupon incorrectly when I was in the store two days ago, hence the product price would be different that what I was originally told. A woman there, did at least try to answer my questions in a professional manner. But the overall experience was sad. read more

The only reason I rated this store as high as two stars was that they had what I wanted in stock. The (apparently) new salesman was interested mainly in getting me to the register to ring me up. I purchased a new Epiphone LP from the displayed guitars on the wall. I had to ask the salesman to wipe off the many fingerprints. After ringing me up, he just handed me the guitar. No box. No paperwork. No truss rod wrench. Nothing. They refused to give me a box to transport the guitar. They begrudgingly gave me a plastic bag to get the guitar to my vehicle in the rain. I would have purchased a hard case had my skin not been crawling. No, I didn't want strings, protection plan nor anything else which would give this company another dime of my money. The floor manager gave me only the impression that I was being jerked around. I would've bagged the whole thing if I hadn't driven an hour to get there for this specific guitar. The guitar is fine. I'll get my next fine guitar elsewhere. read more

This store used to be great. Used to have very helpful and friendly staff. Until recently. I'm not sure what changed but they have been nothing but issues lately. My issues first started when I bought a new midi keyboard and got it home and it was used and wouldn't let me register it because someone else already had. This was annoying since I was charged the full price and not the used price. I took that back and got a refund. Then I purchased a cajon. I waited for 45 mins in the drum area to even get any help as the staff walked by and kept saying I'll be right with you. The store was not even busy. Then a young man from the keyboard section was sent to help me except he didn't know anything about drums at all. He helped as much as he could but it was a very stressful experience because I went to guitar center to have an expert who could answer my questions I had. This young man was nice but could not answer any of my questions. I bought a cajon anyways and left the store kind of frustrated that I blind purchased something because no one knew anything about any of the instruments. Then I got home and opened the box to find the wrong cajon. Needless to say I am livid that I now have to drive back AGAIN to mayfield. I recently rented a PA System, mixer, mics and stands from this location for my wedding. It was my first time putting stuff like that together for an event, but all the equipment worked great (the PA speakers were crazy loud) and the price seemed fair. Truth, the rental manager, is what pushes this rating up to 5 stars. He was extremely helpful, easy to work with and very accommodating. I added a few items onto the rental list at the last minute (when I was picking up the equipment), and he took care of it in a second. If you're looking to rent a PA system for an event like a wedding, this is the place to go. read more
