Came in to pick out my first guitar and Paige was kind and informative. She gave us some basics to work with in order to choose the right guitar (it's like picking a wand! The guitar chooses you. Haha). She educated us, then stepped back and let us play around until I found a nice Yamaha that did it for me. Bought a $40 table top mic stand that was recommended to m, that broke during the second day I used it (had only been used for about 45 minutes the day I bought it and about 15 minutes the day it broke, which was the very next day after the purchase). It broke while just trying to adjust it down an inch or so, I'd did loosen the joint to move it and a small piece of metal snapped and then it wasn't usable anymore. Tried to take it back for an exchange with my receipt since there's a 45 day return policy AND the product had a 3 year warranty but I was told since "YOU broke it" neither policy would cover an exchange. When else would it break other than when trying to adjust or move the moveable parts? I wasn't being rough with it, it had only been used for literally an accumulated hour. I think a $40 table top mic stand would be better quality than that. Was really disappointed in the experience. The worker was pleasant but I feel like there a lot of preaching about the warranties when you buy something, only to then deny the warranties with excuses later. I would get if it had been weeks or it was obviously roughed up. But the warranty literally said if it's broken during normal intended use that it should be covered but apparently that doesn't apply if you are touching the product. Just very disappointed and probably won't return to this location again in the future. read more

This guitar center isn't my favorite, but still sells good times! I went in for a studio/beat making program, but I had a lot of questions that needed to be answered. Thankful the store front worker recommended me to get help from Danny. I never meet anyone so knowledgable of all the softwares and equipment. He helped me buy in choosing studio 1 a great software.. I would like to begin this review by stating that I have been a long time customer of Guitar Center (I've purchased 6 guitars, 4 amplifiers and countless accessories over the past 12 years). I usually have good experiences with the Northridge store; however, my recent negative experience is worth noting and enough to prevent me from making anymore purchases from Guitar Center. Last month I purchased a (used) Fender Precision Bass off the sales floor. It was somewhat of an impulse purchase, but I immediately fell in love with the bass as I spent hours playing it in the store prior to making the purchase. After making the purchase and bringing my new bass guitar home, I realized that there was massive buzzing on the 14th-19th frets on the E-string. Those frets buzzed to the point where one could not make out the notes at all. I brought the bass back in a couple weeks later (still within the 45-day return time) to ask if they could make the necessary adjustments to eliminate the buzzing. The sales associate informed me that they would have to charge me for a setup, which would amount to $60. The associate first attempted to explain to me that the change in the weather may have affected the wood, causing the buzzing in the past few weeks. He attempted to explain to me that bass guitars require "seasonal setups". While I am aware that weather affects the wood of the guitar, a couple of weeks in Southern California would not have caused the amount of buzzing that my bass was producing. I informed the associate that the buzzing was there since I purchased the bass, and that I just did not notice it when playing it on the sales floor. He informed me that the guitars on the sales floor should be set up and this may have been "an oversight" on their end; however, there was nothing they could do at this point and I would still need to pay the $60. At that moment, I thought about returning it (which was still in my right), but I truly really loved the bass and I did get a good deal on it (considering it was used and in great condition). I left Guitar Center annoyed and disappointed with my bass. Just to get a second opinion, I took my bass guitar to the Canoga Park Sam Ash. The Sam Ash guitar tech (Bob) was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He immediately looked at my bass guitar and within a few minutes he was able to eliminate the buzzing on the E string (he did that free of charge). He also informed me that the bass was in need of a set up and agreed to do it for $35. It was such a pleasant interaction, especially after the poor customer service I received at the Northridge Guitar Center. I am leaving 2 stars instead of 1 star because I would like to acknowledge that I have had several positive experiences at Guitar Center over the past decade...I am just very disappointed with this last interaction. The sales associate, Michael, was fantastic! I recently decided to start playing the bass again after 30 years and really didn't know what I wanted. Michael showed me some of the new bass guitars and I was also interested in looking at a used one they had. He put no pressure on me whatsoever to buy new or used in anyway. He gave me time to play around with the various guitars. He would go off to assist other people and then come back and see how I was and if I had any other questions. He even offered to request a new certificate of authenticity from fender on the used base since it was missing. This is outstanding customer service and I can't say enough good things about Michael. I will definitely be looking forward to doing all my shopping at the center and with Michael. read more

I placed an order online with my girlfriends debit card because I had lost mine the other day. On the online order it specifically asked if there was another person picking up the package. I made sure to put my name in that section and even took a screenshot of it. They send an email telling me that the order is ready for pick up. So I go to grab it and they say I'm not authorized to pick it up. So I had to wait an extra 15 minutes to wait on my girlfriend to email them saying I can pick it up. I showed them that my address is the same as the billing address and I even showed the email saying It was ready for pick up...not sure if it was the website or the store locations fault but it was definitely an unpleasant experience and an inconvenience. I came in a bit skeptical that I was going to over sold on things I didn't need and I had a lot of questions. I was referred to Danny by someone in the front and what a relief it was. I told him what I had in mind and he recommended what interface I should get, a new mic, and a few nice upgrades. My setup is running so much smoother. Walked in to exchange a mic and mixer I bought yesterday for another mic and an interface instead of a mixer. They bounced me from the audio pros to the front desk back to the audio pros and one of their employees dreadfully asked if we needed help, obviously offered even worse customer service, lost my receipt, and told me that he gave it back to me. We literally went back and forth with "no you didn't" and "yes I did" a few times until he asked someone to help him to print another one. That being said, I was very impressed with the helpful staff and especially the manager, Brandon. Began going to this GC when i started playing guitar 10 years ago. Back then it's walls were filled with guitars of various brands, they had tons of amps, and it felt like an actual guitar and music store. Now it's depressing just to be there. Visited yesterday to grab picks and strings and it took about 15 Minutes for me and other patrons to be helped. Guitars are hardly ever in good shape, all they push is that Mitchell brand, and there were hardly any cables to use. Oh how the mighty have fallen. I have been shopping at this Guitar Center location for years. The quality of their sales staff varies greatly. Most often, I've had great service from good people, which is why I didn't give a one star rating. Sadly, today was another story. I walked in with my 14 year old son to buy some guitar strings. I asked the sales clerk to price match a price from Amazon.com. The clerk said okay, but when he saw it was from an associated seller in the Amazon Marketplace, he refused to honor the price match saying they can only match Amazon fulfillment. I told him that Guitar Center had always matched sellers in the Amazon marketplace before, but he just shrugged, so I told him I would buy the item online for the lower price. With my son and I in earshot, another sales clerk walked over and asked the guy what the difference in price was. I turned around only to see the guy rolling his eyes at me. The difference in price wasn't that great, but its the principal. My son saw what the sales clerk did and said "what's up with that?". These foolish sale people don't realize that Guitar Center's new policy and their bad attitude will push people out of their store. Guess what happens next? Yeah, the store gets closed down and they wind up looking for new work. read more

Employees in recording section does not know what they are talking about. If you are looking for loud speakers go somewhere else. Their set up won't give you honest opinion. I went there today to check out some active speakers in reasonable prices, which can give me somewhat honest mixing results. First of all, their speakers were set up in a wrong way. The employee literally told me to find the sweet spot by walking around the room my self. I am guessing he is mixing in a gigantic room and I am the weird one who have to mix in max 3 feet away from speakers. After playing 2 songs from my CD, sound levels were so off that I had to tell him if the knobs for output were right. Of course they were off and giving bad results. Not least the buzzing from amps were there because genius employees were trying to run active speakers on aux input. Overall, this guitar center hires people who has no clue on how to set active speakers up and gives you wrong opinion just to sell stuff. Don't go there for buying active speakers! read more

The worst guitar center ever! If it wasn't because my little one really wanted her bongos I would've of asked for my money back. The people working there are beyond lazy, I waited about 35 mins to get an order I ordered online. If it wasn't for Zeed who was the ONLY one willing to help me I would've of never received my order! Never again will I come to this guitar center! Unless, you're white don't expect to get good service. I seen a few different ethnicities come in and get treated the same way I seen two white people and they left within 5 mins of arriving. Honestly if I could give no stars that would be more appropriate. I have tried to order a part for over a month now and each time I call in to check on the order the order has magically disappeared. I finally went in to the store to check on the order and the girl said they dropped the ball and I understand that happens so I replaced the order and she said to give her 3 days and she would give me a call. Almost a week later and still no call. I called in this morning and once again the guy on the phone cannot find my order. WORST customer service ever!!!! read more

This store is a musician's paradise- for a lack of words. Amid the expensive connectors, the staff, at least the staff I have met, are very knowledgeable. I came in asking to listen to the Audio Technica M40s and the person behind the counter actually got a box and let me LISTEN to the headphones AT the counter. Even though he didn't have to do it and it made me seem like an annoying customer for him to open a box, he did and let me have the opportunity to sample something that (sorry, I didn't buy) but have been wanting to try for a long time. Employees are happy to help, checkout is quick and friendly, and they even send a follow up email that is personalized, showing that they actually listen to you. Coming into this GC and shopping with Eric W was by far my most positive experience with this company. I came in with my boyfriend, but we were both interested in gear. I absolutely love it here! I am a regular customer and have been coming here for the past 7 years . I have bought my boyfriend his SCHECTER Bass and SCHECTER electric guitar here as well as a few amps, cases, DJ and mixing equipment , my acoustic guitar , cases and on and on. The employees here are absolutely helpful and fun to talk to. I've been to all Guitar centers in LA , none compare to this shop. Cool environment and they always have what I'm looking for. If they don't have what I'm looking for, they make an effort to find it and even have had things shipped from their warehouse to this store. This will always be my fav GC store. Very clean and good vibes here. There is also great parking outside. If I could give 10000000 stars, I would. Absolutely the worst managament and customer service ive ever witnessed! Waited for 45 minutes for somes help with some speakers. I walked up to the young lady behind the counter that was helping another gentleman 20 minutes after I browsed my options. She attempted to call someone for me but after waiting an additional 25 minutes no one showed up. The best part was the second i was about to walk out two gentlemen walked out an office and offered to "help" me. Came in and tried buying a guitar... First of all, I know what I was doing and what I had in mind. The guitar I wanted was there and I tried it on and fell in love as soon I tuned it and strum the strings. So I went and waited 20 mins for available associate. I was fine with it, until... He tried to scam me. Let me tell you what happened! I told him the guitar I wanted and if he had any in the back and he said he'll check. I said okay cool thanks. Before all of this, I noticed that there were a lot of scratches in the bottom due to people just banging the guitar when they pick it up and put it back. No one gives a shit. Which is saddening. So He went over and took the guitar by the registered and observed the guitar. He didnt even input any informations on the computer and went over to me and said that this was the only one on hands. He offered if I wanted and I said well no. There's a lot of scratches and if I were going to drop $$$ I want a brand new one. He insisted that it was brand new and that its perfect and tried to scam me by saying there were no more in the back room. I called him out snd he told me to leave the property????!!!!
